Food here is not that good. I prefer other cuisine in the food court, and even Taco Bell.

I should’ve just saved my money to buy something cheaper at Taco Bell. Almost the same quality of food: P

I’m going to preface this entire review by stating the following: I have been here multiple times, I have previously found bones(twice) whenever I ordered chicken in anything(quesadilla, regular tacos, street tacos, nachos, etc.), the staff is hardly helpful and doesn’t want to be there anymore than I want to find bones in my food. Anywho, on to the review. After previously finding bones in anything chicken related here, I decided to give this place one more chance. I went there today and ordered nachos with beef. I was in a rush so when they handed me my food to go I didn’t think twice about checking it before leaving. Boy, was that a mistake or what. So as I open up my to go box I immediately notice that my nachos are covered in chicken. Given the fact I didn’t have a whole lot of time to eat nor the time to go back I decided to say«hey, what the heck. What are the chances I find bones in yet a third item?» So I began eating it and I kid you not, first bite, bone. Second bite, bone. At this point I am incredibly aggravated so I use what’s left of my lunch break to go back here. I explained the situation to which they offered me anything else on the menu. Moral of the story, don’t order chicken here. Actually, scratch that. Don’t order anything here. Ever.

Beef! Beef! Get the beef! Taco plate that is. There’s a coupon in the Ala Moana magazine for a buy-one-get-one-free #9 special(2 tacos, with salad, mexican rice, and some tortilla chips), get this! Don’t get the chicken tacos. Whenever I’ve been told to keep an open mind and get the chicken(yada yada yada!), it is always, always, always dry. I always hear a «yeah, the beef one is better» after we get the chicken tacos. So get the beef taco plate! Also, the best salsa is the medium salsa. It’s the tastiest!

Best service in the food court. The employees here are the nicest I’ve met in the Ala Moana food court. Usually the food vendors here don’t give a rip about you and don’t care about life. The food here is okay. Everything is priced around $ 10– the food court average. I had the taco salad which was pretty bland. Basically they just put all the meh ingredients into a puffy deepfried taco shell. The only saving grace was adding a lot of salsa to it. Would I come here again? Sure, but there isn’t anything really stand out about this place. So only if I really want to eat mexican will I come here.

Ugh. Very mediocre food. Just came home with a bean and cheese burrito plate. I was expecting a burrito filled with black beans, cheese, salsa, rice, and sour cream. What I got was a pathetic, loosely wrapped scoop of too-soft refried beans and cheese. Nothing else inside! More refried beans on the side plus some mushy rice.

Way better than you’d expect from a food court. The portions are small for the price, but the chipotle garlic shrimp burrito is pretty awesome.

First of all, the young guy who puts together your order has a great atttitude for such a thankless job, and so does their cashier. The people who work here in the front make you feel welcomed and appreciated. Take note Golden Duck chop suey.

This place used to be a favorite of mine that I would always go to on my Honolulu layovers. I just went there sand ordered the«street tacos». There is a huge picture of them with steak, onions, cilantro and salsa. I have a dairy allergy and can’t have cheese so these work great. I ordered them and they hand me two tacos with meat and feta. None of the other ingredients. I asked the server what she was giving me and she replied«new menu». I told her well you need to change your sign then or provide customers with the new menu. So she gives me replacements with only steak no veggies. I told her again I want what is on the picture. She rolled her eyes shrugged her shoulders and said«whatever» I will not go back here again

Ehhh! Not real mexican food at all! Totally craving mexican food, so i ordered from here. I got 2 steak street tacos w/a side of rice & beans. It was $ 10+ & so not worth it. It had no mexican flavor at all! But i already expected it to be junk! Never again!

First off, I am previously a five year resident of San Diego, so I’ve had lots of good Cali-mex there and this is what I’m basing my review on. Señor Pepe’s is not bad at all, some of the better mexican food I’ve found on the island. I’ve only tried three or four things on their menu, but their street tacos in particular are quite good. I never eat the beans/rice/other sides so I can’t comment on those. Salsa bar is decent, pico de gallo isn’t bad either. I am having a hard time seeing where all these super-negative reviews are coming from, they are a solid joint, and I give them four stars.

Mexican food in Hawaii is always so hard to rate. If this place were on the mainland, it would be in the bottom ranks somewhere with Taco Bell, but since this is Hawaii, I guess I can give it 3 stars. At least they have good vegetarian options and if you get the fruit salsas and leave off the sour cream and what-not, it’s kind of healthy… right? Average to below average quality, average portion size, average price, you can definitely do better, but honestly there’s a lot worse that can be had on this island. Sad but true.

After a night of shopping at Ala Moana, we were hungry. I felt like eating Mexican food. I ordered the Quesadillas with rice and bean. It included a side of chips and get your own salsa. It was pretty good. It can’t compare to my friend’s Mexican cooking, but it’s edible.

I was craving Mexican food. Yeah, I know… out of many place to go to, it had to be at the Ala Moana Food Court. They messed up my order, gave me tacos instead of my enchiladas. At least I got free extra food. Tacos were alright and the enchilada was just too much of the tortilla, not enough meat nor contents. I’d rather fly to Mexico for real food.

Have you ever spent $ 9 on a burger plate from(insert any $ 10 burger joint here) and after taking in the thousands of flavorless, joyless calories, you then wish that you could have spent that money at(insert any place with a 99 cent menu)? Have you ever felt that any 99 cent hamburger would’ve given you a more satisfying meal for way cheaper? I do, but with Mexican food at Señor Pepe! Before ordering, I had low expectations of this restaurant at the food court to begin with(anything has to be better than Taco Bell, right?), but when the craving for beans, cheese, and queso and the hunger pains in the middle of the mall hits, what is a girl to do? I ended up ordering the chimichanga meal that comes with rice and refried beans for about $ 9. The chimichanga’s tortilla was hardly cooked, the beef reminded me of the«beef taste» in microwaveable burritos, the rice was cold and the refried beans looked a little runny and tasted as if it were diluted. Throughout the meal, all I could think of was the following: Man, I could kill for a nacho cheese gordita from Taco Bell. I could’ve bought 18 artificially-flavored tacos from Jack in the Box for $ 9! Sadness.

There are few times in life that you can be certain that you are being lied to, unfortunately tonight at least one Senior Pepe’s employee lied to me. About 5pm I ordered a Chiles Rellenos plate with beans and rice with a Pepsi to drink. I ay and am told to wait on the side as is normal. About two minutes later the cashier informs me that it will take eight more minutes to prepare the food, so I tell her that I did not want to wait and ask what else they have ready to go. She asks the manager and they decide that nachos is ready to go. So I say ok I’ll have nachos. The manager then asks«So you want a refund of your original order and have nachos instead?» I answer yes and the manger says that the Chiles Rellenos will only take two minutes to cook. «Well one of you is lying,» was my response«because the cashier just said that it would take eight minutes. Since there is so much uncertainty why don’t I just have a refund and order elsewhere? The manager came to the counter and gave me a refund and off to Jollibee I went. Note to Señor Pepe: Most food court customers are unwilling to wait 10 minutes for their food. If it is not readily available, just tell us when we order, most of us will change our order to something that is ready. I did not gave a one-star review because on previous visits I have had the Chiles Rellenos and they are good and a dish not commonly available in a mall food court.

Four Stars. Señor Pepes deserves 4 Stars! And it’s only been reviewed 16 times. Is it that«real» Unilocal reviewers don’t eat at the Ala Moana food court? I’m just saying it seems to be a bit under reviewed considering the fact that thousands of people eat at the food court each day. Perhaps it’s because many of the customers are visitors. I’m not sure. But, this place is good. I’ve had 3 star food and service before. This place is four star for sure. I eat there about every 2 weeks. The food is fresh, the side dishes are fresh with lots of flavor and the 4 types of salsa are all freshly made. I usually get the burrito combination. They don’t make it till you order it. Nice black beans, spanish rice, avocado and a bit of cheese plus what ever your choice of filling is. Beef, Chicken etc. I always go with the grilled veggie version because I try to stick with my vegan diet. Never disappointed. I can add the pineapple cole slaw, cinnamon oranges, mango salsa to make a very nutritious meal. There are lots of other different side selections to choose from also. While I’m waiting I make my way over to the salsa area and fill lots of the little cups with the fresh salsa. There is no limit. Plus, you get chips with the combo plate to assist you in devouring the salsa. I always feel stuffed after the burrito. I feel like I’ve had an excellent meal. They have the usual soft drinks plus a horchata drink and another rice milk drink if I remember right. I always get the special horchata. Authentic Mexican? Hardly, but it is good anyway and always seem fresh. I’ve never walked away disappointed. I really like the fact that they cater to vegetarians. Almost all of the dishes can be selected w grilled veggies instead of meat. Ordering is fast and they take credit cards. Food comes out in about 5 min max. I’ve heard there is a coupon in the mall magazine. I’m looking for that next time.

Not very authentic tasting. I’ve definitely experienced better. I wasn’t expecting California-grade Mexican or anything, but I had hoped for something better than this… The price was decent though. They offer combos, which I’m sure appeals to most people. Those combos must do well, especially since it’s in Makai Market in Ala Moana. 2 stars for convenience. Sorry, I’m not really a big fan :(

Of all the places in the vast Ala Moana food court, I was craving Mexican food. What can I say? I’m a California girl. Mexican food is in my blood. So I decided to go here. The concept seemed pretty cool. Order a main dish and you get a choice of 2 or 3 a la cart items to go with your meal. There were mexican rice, refried beans, black beans, and a plethora of island inspired salsas. I opted for the carne asada quesadilla with black beans, mexican rice, and a papaya salsa. The food fell short. I wasn’t expecting California quality Mexican food, but I was expecting something decent. And this clearly wasn’t. And soon later in the day, I had gurgling in my stomach to show for the lack of quality. Me, Miss I have an iron stomach and I never get indigestion… had indigestion. Boo.
