Amazing spot, pancakes are the best I’ve ever had. Sometimes the lines are long but after you start eating it’s worth it. Highly recommend it!

Black Walnut was our go to place for take out, until I found a dead bug in my salad! I’m disgusted. When I called the manager to inform them they were completely unapologetic and the only offered solution was to refund the salad or offer me a new one. This was a nice gesture, however I will not return here again. The lack of remorse for a bug in my food along with the lack of solutions to better my future experiences made my decision extremely easy to never return.

I went here a short time ago and it was pretty late at night and was still pretty full of people at around 10pm. All I can say is we got our food fast, I love the vibe and décor of the place, and the burger is one of the best, if not. The best I’ve ever had in my life. Highly recommended as a Houston staple. Also, the seating is very interesting. You can either sit at a tall table, a booth, or large chairs and a small table. I have told many coworkers about this place similar to like a Starbucks setup. Just go inside, pick up menus, walk up to the counter and order, and pick yourself a table. And they will buzz you when your food is ready. Enjoy!

The food was delicious at Black Walnut Café! I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and it was one of the best I have had in a long time. The mimosa was ok, to much pulp for my liking. The line to order was long but it moved fairly quick and gave me time to decide what I wanted to order. This will be my go to place for brunch now since everything looked so yummy!

Not great it should be better. Nice atmosphere but food is not even good for chain food. Salads are old and wilted and soup was too salty to eat. Burger was ok and a friend liked their sandwich but it could be so much better. Lots of crowds so not sure what we’ve been missing.

I am sure the food is much better but came in for last minute dessert. I knew they had some items there and I know that we had a sweet tooth at the time. It just so happens that the cheesecake and cannolis we picked up just didn’t seem all that fresh. I am sure when the items were new they tasted a lot better. Will have to try again but not out yet.

I usually Love this place, but with my wrong order and then hair(and I am talking super long female hair) in my next food delivery– I don’t think I will eat before noon here! It is a Wednesday morning– so not busy at all. When I went to Check on my non-hair food– I saw the worker roll her eyes at the fact that I brought it back. Not impressed :(

This is one of our favorite breakfast places In the neighborhood. My girls will recommend the Petite breakfast plate and a side of waffle-this is their usual order that they split! My hubby’s favorite is the Migas plate. I usually go for their healthy options like build your own omelette With egg whites. Glad that they have gluten free Bread! Their cappuccino is not bad too!

I think this place is pretty hit or miss, honestly. I like to come here in the morning either for breakfast or brunch. They do have a great dining area that offers wifi, a few TVs mainly on ESPN, and a nice wait staff. Their menu is extensive and in my opinion, fairly expensive for breakfast. I’ve tried several different items on the menu and nothing really makes me say«wow, I’m coming back here again!» but then again nothing makes me want to stop coming. I come mostly for the wifi in the dining area and because it’s in a convenient location for me.

Dropped by on a whim, and we were impressed! High quality food is served counter style, and the menu has some terrific looking choices. They have a friendly staff, and I can’t wait to go back! P. S. they have a Gelato bar…

We’ve passed by this location several times before and finally decided to go on Valentine’s Day for a spontaneous breakfast/brunch out. It was unsurprisingly busy. There were seats inside but the lighting wasn’t very bright. There is also patio seating and smaller tables by the entrance with natural light. As first timers, you get in line and after you order, you get a pager of sorts. If you ordered a drink, you pick them up at the bar. It’s largely self-serve: there is a station to get napkins, water, and silverware. When your pager goes off, you head back towards the cash registers to pick up your food. The only thing you don’t do yourself is bring back your dishes after you’ve finished. After perusing the menu while waiting in line, we decided to order a traditional pancake stack and the Napoleon French toast. I also got a large grapefruit juice and he got his regular black coffee. The lady at the cash register was nice. After she took our orders, she asked if it was our first time there. Yes, it was. She then explained to us how it worked and then automatically got us empty cups for water. Yay! I’m used to needing to ask for water so that was nice. By the time we ordered, no outdoor seating was available and the other seats were in dimly lit areas(I wanted decent food photos — don’t judge) so we took a small table probably meant for one by the front and pulled up an extra chair. We retrieved our silverware/napkins, got my juice from the bar, and our pager went off in under 10 minutes. The pancakes were good and fluffy with a small nub of butter, but had a weird number of dimples on the top pancake. You get three pancakes with a decent diameter, which I thought was okay for a $ 7 price tag, but it was fine. More variety like a combo would have been nice without paying additional. The French toast was special. I liked the textures and flavor contrast between the French toast(not custard-like on the inside, though), cream sauce, strawberries, and candied nuts. However, for $ 10.25, I would have expected more than three half toasts(a whopping 1.5 slices of bread), especially since my husband and I were sharing. Grapefruit juice was good — it had pulp and seeds floating about(a testimony to how it’s fresh squeezed?) — not too sweet or bitter. My husband didn’t like his coffee all that much though. He’s addicted to coffee but he said he didn’t quite like the flavor. In the end… Atmosphere — OK. Too many people so there was a steady murmur of noise. Makes sense, what with it being V-Day. Service — my one main interaction with the staff was good. :) the lady at the bar who gave me my juice only confirmed verbally that I ordered the juice and never asked to see my receipt. I guess they trust the customers? A man came by within a minute of us finishing our food to clear our plates. Yay for prompt service! Cleanliness — outside, no complaints; dishes were cleared shortly. Tables looked clean. The bathroom floors were dirty and a little sticky and needed a good mop. The stalls and toilets themselves were okay… and it was only 10 am! Food — good food but nothing noteworthy. Hubby and I are vegetarian who don’t eat onion, garlic, leeks, and chives(needless to say, we don’t often eat out) and we weren’t in the mood to go through every item on the menu with the staff to figure out what we could eat, especially with the line, so we didn’t ask about the savory foods. They do offer a gluten-free menu though! Value — not the best(only 1.5 slices of bread?) but I did leave full and I guess eating out means you pay for the labor of having someone else cook and clean for you. The lady did ask if we wanted to add on sides of bacon or eggs, but I thought we were already indulging a bit so opted out. Parking — could be a bit difficult when busy; we were lucky since right when we pulled into the lot, someone was reversing out. The bank is closed Sunday’s so there was more parking. Overall rating: 3.5, rounded up to 4.

Worst Cheesecake ever. I tried the Coconut Cheesecake, one bite, it was warm. Too Warm. So I politely asked if I could try a different one instead which they didn’t have a problem with. So I picked out the double-chocolate cheesecake. Again. Warm. Too Warm. And, just like the coconut cheesecake, they both had picked up a flavor from something else. The Reason: They store everything together in a deli-display case. I should of realized before ordering that if cheesecake is stored with other pastries(like cookies and stuff), they all begin to taste like each other and the moisture of things stored together can affect other pastries. D: The only thing I liked here was the amount of available seating.

I so want this Black Walnut to be a 4 or 5 star but it’s not. I live in the neighborhood and can easily walk to it. I go there a couple times a month. I usually go in Saturday or Sunday early morning. It regularly has issues. This morning(8:00am) they did not have the breakfast potatoes. They did not tell me. My over easy eggs come out with garlic mashed potatoes. If I had known I would have picked a different meal. Other times I have been served cold greasy potatoes which is odd for 8:00am. It’s about 50⁄50 if the food will be flavorful or bland. I have given up on calling in to go orders for dinner. Too many times they have not had my order in the system or it has not been right. The service staff is friendly, the food prep time is very reasonable, the restaurant is kept clean and tables bussed quickly. It has the potential to be a great neighborhood restaurant. I need to try one of the other locations to make a comparison.

Let me start off my by saying I used to go to Black Walnut at least 3x a week. I think I’ve eaten everything on the menu at least 1 time. This was my go-to spot for over 2 years because it was located so close to my house and it was all around good healthy food. With all that being said, I’m sad to say that the last 3 times I have eaten at Black Walnut have been terrible experiences. My wife and I will not be going back to BWC for a long time. Service has been terrible. Meals were served cold. Portions have been reduced.

Brunch seemed off today. My eggs, potatoes and turkey sausage were all mediocre. I feel like I should have just gotten the French toast to go and made the rest at home. Customer service was great, as usual.

When I arrived, there was a crazy long line(a good sign but i was hungry after a 16mi run) so I went to the bar and was immediately brought water, offered a menu and in less than 10min my food was there. The tender was very attentive but not annoying. Everything was excellent. I was very impressed and would absolutely return.

Their Tomato Basil Soup is delicious! Tortellini and plenty of parmesan set it apart and the garlic toast that comes with it is the perfect accompaniment.

Perfect location for this place. While the food will never knock your socks off in terms of creativity, the food they do offer is always done well and tasty. So, I keep coming back because it’s reliably good. I came one afternoon for an early lunch with my husband. Since I was early, I got some coffee and hung out on the patio. The problem is that sometimes the busboys are *too* good at their job. My coffee cup was bussed away when I popped into the restroom. But no problems, I just asked for another one. Later I ordered a croissant breakfast sandwich for me, and a broccoli cheddar soup with Caesar salad. Both were perfect. The sandwich was cheese and had plenty of egg; the soup was hot and the salad wasn’t over dressed. Perfect when you don’t want anything fancy, just good food.

Black Walnut is my JAM! I really love the variety of items they have here. You can be sinful with a huge stack of chocolate chip pancakes or you can actually behave yourself and order a salad or some grilled salmon. The breakfast is on point and they really know how to poach eggs! Even if I don’t order a Benedict, I get my eggs poached on the side. Their turkey burger is one of my favorites around town, not dry like they can often be. The portions are also huge! They have fresh made to order coffee bar, gelato bar and plenty of amazing house made desserts to choose from. This location in particular is really lovely, they have a nice patio to sit on and decent parking for the area. This is my go to spot when I can’t quite decide what I want to eat!

Been to black walnut a few times and I must say I love that they have a huge variety. I’ve have brunch, lunch and dinner here on several occasions. I like this location over the rice village one(the fact that it’s newer makes it easier) because it feel bigger and open. The parking is easier and they have a bar area you can sit at as well. I’m not crazy about the food but it’s not bad. I had chicken and waffles for brunch with was better than I was expecting, the batter on the chicken had some good seasoning. For lunch/dinner I use to always get the Asian salmon because I loved the sweet savory sauce that it comes with and the veggies are delicious! Aside from that dish, nothing has really drawn me in more often. The pasta seem like they would be delicious but I usually went when trying and be a little healthy!

I am a Black Walnut fan. That being said, this particular location had a few flaws. Ordering was easy and simple. We all ordered water and coffee with our meals. The glasses they gave us for the water was visibly dirty. One of the coffees was a machiatto and it’s made to order. Only after getting towards the end of the cup did we see a fly in the coffee. Those two issues was the reason for 3 stars. The food on the other hand was delicious. I ordered the big plate and had a side of sausage patties as well. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted great. We also had the Cordon Bleu Benedict. It tasted just as good as it looked. The chicken was seasoned perfectly and the asparagus was exceptionally good. My brother ordered the regular eggs Benedict and it was tasty as well. Two of our plates came with a potato hash type dish, and it was the only disappointing item we ate. It was soggy and had absolutely no seasoning at all. I’m still going to keep Black Walnut on my list of go to places, but most likely not this location.

This place was really a present surprise, for years I always passed by this place without really acknowledging it. Luckily I came across the restaurant on Google Maps, instead I would try it the next day. When I went there and looked at the menu and saw the variety of food that they had from breakfast — lunch, I knew that I would really love this place and the prices were pretty darn good. The ambience in the places actually outstanding for a business meeting, there were plenty of other people in there and you can hardly hear any noise and they also have a bar that you can order any alcoholic beverage that suited you. I really recommend this place to people ranging from businessman to the average runner that’s just finish running Memorial Park for Allen Parkway for the variety and the food and the outstanding prices and the kindness of the staff members there. Try anything and I believe that you be satisfied.

Convenient but inconvenient? Pro’s: –decent and food you can enjoy, but spectacular? No –casual, order at the counter –prompt food Cons: –inconvenient patio where they are NOT pet friendly. This is a casual place, you should allow pets on the patio or at least say, «pets are welcome, however the restaurant reserves the right to ask guests to leave if the pet is a disturbance to other guests». Babies can sometimes make a bigger mess than dogs and most restaurants with a patio allow dogs. Hmmm… Inconvenient indeed –pricey for an order at the counter –parking can be an issue during busy times –lots of seating but watch out, it can get busy Overall, food is ok, don’t bring your dog/puppy, order to go, come at an odd time to not deal with parking and lines, and be prepared to be shocked when you pay.

During the week for lunch parking is hard to come by and be prepared to wait in line to order! I call in to go orders, but still have a very hard time finding a parking space just so I can run in and pick up my food from the bar. I’ve tried many things on their menu from this location and other locations and have never been disappointed with my order. I do like BWC overall, just not necessarily this location for lunch during the week since it is always packed.

The food is good but a bit overpriced for what it is. Long lines, and not enough seating, force you to scout out a seat before you even think about ordering. I typically come here with friends and family only because it has a great variety of food so everyone can find something they like and that’s a plus. On my last visit I had the migas and they were marginal. It was the first time I had something here that wasn’t very good. Overall, I think there are better places for brunch/lunch in the area, but they have a good variety of foods to accommodate everyone’s’ tastes.
