Great place for bun bo hue and nuoc mat. The cabbage is less than usual always have to ask for more.

My family came from a long line of chefs. With that, came critical taste buds and a knack for detailed observations. I went here with my fiancé and his sister on a Sunday morning and the first thing I noticed was the trash and stain on the floor. I wasn’t so happy about that. I ordered a small bowl of Bun Bo Hue and I was expecting something flavorful, spicy and not a lot of MSG(I’m very sensitive to MSG). The waiter brought out our order and the broth was not at all flavorful. It was diluted. It had a lot of MSG as my tongue was already tingling. It had a lot of lemon grass. The eggrolls that I ordered was okay. But it tasted more like oil than eggrolls. The milk tea that they offer had whole milk in it and mind you, that whole milk will over power the tea flavor. I’ve tasted better and probably will not be coming back here.

It was a good place to go for bun Bo hue. The service was friendly. This is the place to go in the southeast for bun Bo hue.

I love bun Bo hue, it’s my all time favorite and of course nothing compares to a home cooked bowl, I’m always looking for a place that has good flavor. This is a chain, I’ve tried the ones in bellaire and finally this one. The flavor is consistent with typical bun Bo hue, however not spicy at all, tons of lemongrass and overcooked noodles(may have just been mine). I was also disappointed in the cabbage that came with it, it was not cut nearly thin enough. The good part is you get plenty of meat, including steamed pork and pork hock. I would probably come back if I were in the area, but not a place I would drive far to get a bowl. There better places in Houston.

So, Bun Bo Hue is Phở’s distant cousin. It was a pleasant surprise to come to Bun Bo Hue Duc Chuong 3 here in Houston, TX and not have to have Phở all the time. It ’twas the best of times really. Hanging out with a friend for lunch is the best. I arrived here on a nice Tuesday afternoon for lunch with a friend of mine, who graciously took time out from work to hang out. It was almost 2pm, but it certainly was a nice quick lunch before he had to get back to work nearby. The restaurant seemed relatively new, spacious and just clean. Like brand spanking new, but I’m assuming that they have been around for a while. The ambiance of bun bo hue Duc Chuong 3 was reserved, quiet, and really casual. The restaurant was just kind of remarkable, since it was just well taken care of. The experience here overall was good, neat, positive, and quite fast. Bun Bo Hue Duc Chuong 3 is conveniently located at 12804 Guld Highway here in Houston, right along the I-45 corridor. They greatly accept credit cards, which is always a good plus. The prices here are rather good, raising the bar for a lot of Vietnamese Chinese restaurants to just up their game and be on it. My visit to Bun Bo Hue Duc Chuong 3 was complete when I ordered my first milk tea ever. Yes, I went there. And while milk tea has its supporters and all, I felt like I could have done better with a Starbucks tea lemonade or something. It was not good. Although the boba was alright and squishy to eat, the entire notion of the milk tea seemed to be just another notion of just«leave it alone», if you can help it. I can appreciate good cuisine and, while Bun Bo Hue Duc Chuong 3 delivers, it can be just a little average. It’s still a delight to be here, but it’s just comfort food for the most part. My friend ordered for me, which the bun bo hue was served in 3 bowl sizes. I picked the medium sized one, since I wasn’t a real fan, just liked it from time to time. It was spicy as bun bo hue is usually. It’s usually a quick meal as phở and bun bo hue normally is. The service was good yet average. If you are here for a quick bite, be sure to enjoy the experience and not really rush it through. Sometimes, the best things in life are spent with friends and good food — at least that’s what I have come to realize! I’d recommend Bun Bo Hue Duc Chuong 3 for a good bowl of fun and hearty goodness, but realistically, it’s just your average place. Still good though. Support local! B–

This place is so good. Their bun bo hue is the best I’ve ever had. Broth is super flavorful and noodles are thick & soft — of perfect consistency. Veggies always fresh. Usually wait around 5 mins for food to come out. Their portions are huge & food is cheap. Love coming here on a rainy/cold day on an empty stomach. So satisfying!

As a Vietnam born person, I think this place is «on the ball» with their bun bo hue. I try to visit here when I can. I also tried the durian smoothie the last time I was there, and it was good, but not as good as the soup. :-D

I LOVEBUNBOHUE! Although I originally thought this place was exactly the same s the original on Bellaire, it’s not. This location offers other foods(rice plates, spring rolls, etc.) besides just bun bo hue. The one on Bellaire offers 2 sizes, small or large. This one has 3. Small, medium, or large(which is huge by the way [that’s what she said])! And the bun bo hue goes great with a cup of their nuoc mac.

Great bún bò hu. Nice and friendly staff. The décor and set-up is medocre. Sometimes, waiting for a table takes too long; this is mainly due to the way the seating is arranged, which does not allow for maximum usage of the eating area. Also, I don’t care much for being packed in so close with other patrons while eating — especially having to hear others slurp the otherwise, delicious bún bò hu. They are accomodating, with regards to specializing orders(I always ask for no oil in the broth and extra huyt.). The portions are generous; the large, in my opinion, is equivalent to an extra large in other restaurants and a medium= large. I always pop in for a quick fix when I am craving good bún bò hu.

Very good bun bo hue! I brought a friend who is from Vietnam and she loved it! This is their signature dish and they only serve this and bubble tea so be ready to choose small, medium or large! I saw they have rice dishes too but why come here for anything else but what they’re known for! Reminds me of home cooked bun bo hue! Great flavors and all the garnishes you’ll need! You can order it without the pork blood cubes and pig’s feet if you’re feeling less adventurous!

Love this place for Bun Bo Hue! The service is nice, fast and polite. There are tons of table. They let you sit wherever you want. There is a very limited menu. There is no real menu. You just look on the wall and order. They have three sizes for the Bun Bo Hue. I normally get the small and that fills me up, but I eat like a cat. My friends and family normal gets medium. FYI: You pay at the register.

As far as bún bò Hue goes, this is one of the best. Bún bò Hue is one of the most popular Vietnamese spicy beef stews served over rice vermicelli. Read Christian review about this place and be prepared when you come. Yes, I understand that it can be uncomfortable when you don’t understand the language and culture, yet embrace yourself to come and try something new. Trust me, most of the giggles are probably because they adore your brave soul! There is nothing more adorable than someone with heart and mind so wide open who tries to learn a culture through its food! With that being said, the wait staffs need to be better trained and act more professionally.

I usually love coming to this place but this previous time threw me for a loop. The broth wasn’t as flavorful and it was not as hot. The broth was lukewarm and the place smelled like bleach? Even the Nuoc Mac tasted different. I am hoping that it was just some fluke and they were having an off day.

As a half Vietnamese person who happens to be a foodie, this is as legit as it can get. Broth is a beautiful red color, you get two chunk of pork deli, one piece of pig blood, and some bones if you order the small. The small is a lot for someone who is average. The noodles are obviously odon style, thick and perfectly cook. Warning though, the sate/chili oil is more spicy than most asian places. Tip: Don’t ask for a menu, there aint one. It just bun bo hue and the pictures on the side of the wall which is com thit nuong or some varience of a rice dish.

So my gf loves their other location, but recently, we were near this particular location so we decided to get two bowls of their bun bo hue. We only got meat and cha only. I don’t eat any of the other meats and I don’t add any of the veggies. Overall, the broth to me was a little bland and as far as meats go there wasn’t nearly enough. However, their meat quality was good.

I think it’s only fitting that I try my first bun bo hue at a place called Bun Bo Hue. People have raved on and on about this soup but I’ve never taken the chance to try it just because it usually comes spicy. I was in Houston for a small trip, and my friends wanted to eat here, so it looks like I had no choice but to try it. Luckily, one of my friends was Viet and he ordered for all of us. Granted, there is no menu and you just have to choose the size. He chose a regular for all of us but honestly, a small would’ve been enough for me. I was pleased with my first experience! Can’t really compare it to anything else since it was my first time. He also ordered us all a green drink that I guess resembles a medley of grass jelly and other jelly and popping bobas? Heck, I don’t know, but it was really good!

Interesting place.. Bun Bo Hue was good to me but I am not an expert here. I was referred by a Vietnamese friend. Definitely liked the smoothies. Being my first time there and not Vietnamese I wish the servers were more helpful. There were no menus — it took me asking questions to the servers to figure out they only make 3 – 4 things … Wound gave been helpful if they came out and said right when we sat down. Have you ever been here before … Let me tell you how this works … Being the only non Vietnamese person in the whole place … It was awkward as I could tell other customers were listening and made family and I feel awkward as they snickered at my stupid questions to understand how their simple me use and ordering process worked . None the less I enjoyed the food but experience could be better and friendlier to non Vietnamese patrons.

I’ve been to many vietnamese restaurants and this is my favorite. It is so good, I haven’t even tried anything but the Bun Bo Hue because it cannot be beat! The service here is amazing too, I think they consider us «regulars» since they always remember our orders.

My family and I are from Dallas. We were visiting Houston/Galveston this past Memorial Day. We usually eat at Kim Hai right next door but we were early this time so it was closed. So we decided to try the Bun Bo Hue Duc Chuong 3, after all– we are Hue people. Since they named it Bun Bo hue and it’s their third location we thought it must be really good. As my family and I waited on our orders I read through the reviews here and how many people complemented on their bun Bo hue and their nuoc mat. So I was extremely excited and thought that from now on we’ve got bun Bo hue to eat when visiting. Well – when the bowl of bun Bo came out. I was already disappointed at the color.(I’m so hue that I can almost tell when bun Bo hue is good just by the color) Next, I glanced at the plate of vegetables that they’ve provided. «No basil?! Thats what I like it my bun Bo.» Then I noticed they had some bap chuoi mixed it so I thought, «ok fine. Maybe they’re out?»(But it was only 10 am). I put all my vegetables in and then squeezed my lime and then asked for mam Ruoc(it was brought out promptly) in a small, paper bowl. I added in SA Te chili and a bit of the soup base from the bun Bo it’s self. Then squeeze a tad of lime into it and mix.(That’s my dipping sauce). I was ready to try it still thinking about the positive reviews on Unilocal.I was so disappointed. It was NOT authentic bun Bo. It was made to taste like the southerners.(That’s what my family calls) no offense. It was sweet. Authentic bun Bo is not sweet. It is much more flavorful. I was fine with the amount of meat given(I’m more of a bun and soup person than meat) but my fiancé wasn’t. He complained it was too much bun(noodle-sorry, I forgot To use English terms) Before we finished, my fiancé ordered nuoc mat(which is what he loves in Dallas on a Sunny day) and then continued eating. He asked them to check on his nuoc mat after 10 minutes and they never said anything. And then we finished and paid(and ordered some com thit nuong to go for the kids just in case they get hungry from the beach later). We waited and the to go food came out. No nuoc mat. My fiancé literally asked them about 5 – 7 times. And finally– only to be disappointed. He told me to try it(I’ve never had it in Dallas before but I thought it was a tad sweet and just a lot of jelly and basil seed, nothing special. He said the nuoc mat in Dallas quenches your thirst while this one makes you more thirsty on a summer day because it’s too sweet from so much sugar. So we left the place full but not satisfied. My family and I have tried many places in the Dallas metroplex and the only one place to go for it is Phở Tay Do on Campbell and Plano. So if anyone from Houston ever come to Dallas to visit and want some legit bun Bo hue– stop by and taste the difference. And no. I am not affiliated with the owner at phở Tay do in any way. And come to Saigon Cali mall(previously Saigon mall) to try the nuoc mat.

Hmm… Havn’t I been in a place like this before? Oh yea, there is one right by my residence by the Willowbrook area, you know, the one where you come in and can order anything you want, just as long as it’s Bun Bo Hue. Yep, that’s all you get. It’s kind of awkward when you know there are no other soups, rice dishes, you sit down and they ask you«What would you like to eat?»…uh.is that a trick question? Actually, they do have spring rolls which looks really good, nice big in what seems two«13 count» shrimp and the accompanying sauce looks well thought of. It has your usual peanutty brown sauce with a touch of the spicy chili peppers but something different that it seems they use to touch it off, I believe it is fried shallots or onions, whatever it was, it was brown and curly. They also have fried egg rolls here but do NOT expect quality on that one, order it, I dare you, you’ll see what I mean. It’s not your run of the mill Vietnamese egg roll but looked like something someone hastilly put together in the back, skinny, thick skinned won type wrap. Smoothy drinks and tapioca are also served here, it’s a soup place so don’t expect stellar but I was not disappointed in the actual tapioca balls, I have had worse. The only thing that I wish everybody would change is they always put too much d5mn syrup in these things, too sweet for Pete’s sake! What part of «please tell them to not make it sweet, just a tad bit amount of sugar», oh well, at least I can get my tapioca fix here rather than going down the road to that place that smells like buttocks when you first walk in the door. You people that live and work around here know where exactly I am talking about. There are two sizes of Bun Bo Hue’s. The small which might be a little too large if you are of small stature and then there is «omfg I can’t believe I ordered that» half gallon size. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Parking is ample for the business. The lot is shared by other businesses but it does not seem to get too crowded in here but this coming from somebody that came here twice at about 1:00 p.m. when the lunch crowd probably has already left, maybe somebody else here can tell you different. Want a review of the bathroom? Ok here it goes, it’s a new building, new interior, new bathroom but not kept up to par. It is not«Taco Cabana» nasty yet but it will get there, yes I said it, Taco Cabana all seem to have the nastiest restrooms just to wash your hands, getting off topic aren’t I? Also if you read this before going in, do yourself a favor, bring yourself a napkin otherwise you will find yourself opening the door with your hand and dirtying it up again or using toilet paper to open the door but then you will be shaking bits of T T paper off till you get to your table. Who the h3ll reviews and talks about bathrooms? I do, I like to wash my hands before I eat, don’t you? Yes, I thought so. Service, typical Asian service but at least they do not frown or smirk when you ask for something. I gave up expecting service at Asian restaurants so that I will not feel disappointed when something is missed or wrong so when something does go right it’s a plus. I’m giving my Asian counterparts a handicap on that. I forget to get the breakdown on the prices but for three bowls of «small» pffft Bun Bo Hue’, one canned coke, one tapioca(green tea may I add), an Iced Tea, an order of spring rolls and an order of egg rolls came out to $ 31.XX, not too bad, let’s call this«average price». Another thing I would like to add is at least there are about 3 televisions on American stations and not some«wth am I watching circa del sol ala psuedo Asian» but with«Closed Caption». It is nice to be able to look up and grab what is going on around the world while you take breaths in between your bites, unfortunately the mass killing of the movie theatre go’ers kind of spoiled the mood to watch but life is life. Cleanliness, it’s not really dirty inside but definitely not kept up for a place that just opened but it’s all about the training of your crew and if the owners really care if their place is spotless or the authentic Asian state of «it’s ok, we’ll take care of the floors and tables at the end of the day». Oh, one thing that I felt good when I turned around when my back was towards the kitchen was I saw people back there with GLOVES! My co workers love this place, everybody keeps on wanting to go back even though it is probably loaded with M S G, but you are going to die from something anyways correct? =============================================== Tip for new UnilocalERS: Have you noticed that some of your reviews got filtered? It may be because you havn’t gotten out of the probatory«dozen» reviews yet, and I don’t mean the reviews that are just two or three lines. Nobody really is sure of the parameters but the more you are active the less likely you will be filtered.
