Good coffee. Snacks were not fresh though. I might grudgingly go here to avoid Starbucks. The guys working at the counter didnt seem to care about the line.

Another of my neighborhood haunts. I love their coffee and their staff is always friendly — especially at 6am in the morning when I am in a whirl to get in and get out. I also love the quirky post of their sign out front — it is always something funny that makes you think. This is a solid Montrose choice — one of my favorites.

Soooo I walk in and everyone pretty much stares at me. I felt like Eddie Murphy in 48 Hrs when he walked into that country bar. Lol! It was weird. I figure well lemme try and go to the restroom and come out and hopefully the mood changes. Nope. :-/They looked so uncomfortable it made me uncomfortable! I got an Americano with steamed milk. probably the worst I’ve ever had.(BYTHEWAY Bens Beans downtown had the BEST I’ve ever had.) So I got my crappy Americano and then went to put my sweetener in it. After tasting it I decided it needed a little more hot water. I turned and the first Batista I saw I asked if I could get a little more hot water. He told me «sorry I’m already off». How much freaking work would it be to add a little hot water in a cup!!! With this attitude the UNIVERSE will probably make sure he works at a coffee shop FOREVER. Jus saying… It was really really hot. No AC. they just had the doors open and a fan going. No comfort level as far as the seats and the layout. No personality from baristas. And to think I was headed to Sbux down the street and actually turned around to come here. Wrong move.

i don’t frequent here too much but good iced coffee and a great selection of SF syrups; I like the blended iced coffee w/SF toffee. they also have a toffee nut crunch latte that is sinful. when i feel the need to go SF without just doing the plain vanilla, caramel or hazelnut, i have to come here because they do have a better selection.

F bombs, F bombs, NONSTOP and SH*T NONSTOP… thanks to the red head behind the counter who cusses like a sailor at 1:20 pm. WOW! Filthy, trashy, neighborhood coffee bar. Score!

A regular for 5+ years. Ill never call it dirks but the drinks have always been great. Everything on the menu is fantastic and the baristas will let you customize anything. However, there is no wifi and that still sucks and be wary of going around 4pm if you need peace and quiet, there tends to be a lot of kids from the high school down the street.

This was a lovely experience this morning when I was in dire need of some coffee and couldn’t crash at my favorite bookstore. Upon entering, I was greeted with a smile and some chit chat. Additionally, my coffee was made quickly and deliciously. I was able to find an undisturbed spot to read my book and savor my coffee. I hope to return for the solitude and nice cup of joe. Plus, it was nice that the barista thought I was still in school :)

Dirk/Diedrich’s wasn’t always on my radar as a study spot. It’s not the most glamorous store and it isn’t trying to be one… but I appreciate that about Dirk’s. There are no frills: no fancy names to decipher on the menu(I appreciate not having to ask what’s in every drink bc the names are so non-descriptive), the baristas are down to earth and friendly, and the patrons aren’t there to judge you(cough, Black Hole, cough). The interior was surprisingly decent for studying. Lots of windows lining the walls meant good natural light(though it could get hot on the side of the store w/o screens), good amount of tables + long bar area along the wall, chill/quieter atmosphere, not too crowded even on weekends, decent hours, and free WiFi. The only downside is there aren’t that many outlets. Also the bathrooms aren’t the cleanest(ie: it looks like something out of a movie crime scene) and sometimes tables are dirty so they require a wipe down but it’s no big. In addition to their drink menu(lots of coffee options and a good tea selection, you can get any tea iced and it’s pretty tasty too), they have some baked goods(nothing really great here, they’re actually from Sam’s, hah), granola bars, and oatmeal. The random thing I found out is that there are actually mini sausage rolls also behind the counter for about a buck each. Not bad for a savory snack when you’re not in the mood for a muffin or danish. I like that it’s not a popular spot and that it’s kind of on the grungier side. Makes a nice change of pace from other Montrose coffeeshops that are overcrowded and trying too hard to be cool. Thanks for being yourself, Dirk’s!

I like Dirk’s because the staff is straightforward and will make what you want. My favorite drink here doesn’t actually exist. It’s some ambiguous almond milk cross between the latte, cappuccino, cortado, and macchiato. But luckily I explain what I want in the drink and let the barista figure it out. Dirk’s is not the ideal study spot, since there are few tables and they’re rather small. Black Hole, which is a few blocks away, has a better work environment. But it’s a nice place to get hipster coffee to-go, or to sit and watch cars drive by.

Is it Dirk’s? Is it Dedrichs? It was Dedrich’s when I was in college and I remember it being a lot better than what it is now. I don’t drink coffee, so I can only comment on the teas, which are tasty, but not reason for me to return. As an office-dwelling adult that’s moved out of the area, I don’t find much reason to ever come here again. My biggest issue is the seating and cleanliness of the place. The counters are covered in dispensers and napkins and random coffee house things, but are in no orderly fashion. Things just don’t look as if they’ve been wiped clean recently. Chairs were turned haphazardly and tables were covered in dried coffee drops or crumbs and inconsistently spaced and pushed toward booths. Sure a study group may have met there and left a mess, but when I arrived it was not busy and an employee should have reset the space. I was waiting for a friend and I had to relocate 3 times because of some seating issue. 1. The outdoor seats were rusty and snagged my slacks. 2. The first chair I sat in inside was rickety to the point I thought I was going to break the chair. 3. The booth I slid in to slid with me as I sat… took me back to my playground days and seesawing with my friends. Fourth try is a charm and I finally found a booth that didn’t snag, wobble or slide.

Diedrich knows it’s not the hottest coffee shop in town, but they don’t care one bit! I don’t why, but that’s the impression I get from them, and I like ‘em better for it. Interesting little place that serves up strong coffee and offers a patio seating. Inside seating is a little sparse, but it’s never too crowded. They don’t always turn on their wi-fi after a certain time on the weekdays, I’m not sure why. I’ve ordered a regular coffee, vanilla latte, and their iced mocha. They were all pretty strong, but good nonetheless. Lots of sunlight indoors, mostly quiet too. Good place to come and talk or read a book.

I like coming here to get my coffee, croissant, and sit at the bar-like table facing Montrose to watch cars drive by. It’s a morning thing I like to do on the weekends and I think other people at Dirk’s Coffee get it. Their drink selection has unique names so ask the employee what ingredients are in the drink so you make the perfect selection. There are some food items such as danishes, muffins, croissants(they’re big), etc. that you can also purchase to satisfy your appetite. They have a decent amount of seating, but it’s hardly ever packed with customers when I come here. There’s a section that has upcoming events in and around Houston tacked onto a board, along with games that customers may play while enjoying their coffee. They sell coffee here too so feel free to purchase a bag while getting your coffee to go!

Nothing«wowed» me from Dirk’s Coffee(Diedrich? Dirk? End the confusion please!) I felt super pressured when ordering. There was a line and the guy on the counter seemed very impatient. I understand the situation, but no need to tap your fingers and look all stressed. I liked the quote of the day on the wall. Besides that, their coffee is ok and their banana muffins are pretty good too.

Most people that work at coffee shops are usually really energetic and friendly, but that is not the case at Diedrich. Not only was the service terrible the drink I got was also terrible! I ordered the caramel latte and it was so sweet that even after adding more hot water to it the drink was still undrinkable. Don’t believe the sign out front when it says it has the best coffee, more like the worst overpriced coffee.

Among the best coffee available and a cozy dining space. At the counter I asked if they have a light or medium roast available, «yes, we have both» I was told. Hallelujah! At last, someone understands coffee beans! All too often coffee roasters will just burn the heck out of the beans and so none of the nuances within different types of beans are detectable. Dirk’s has freshly roasted coffee which means it is smooth and flavorful, the way it should be. For this extraordinary brew the prices are typical for chains such as Starbucks and Peet’s. There is a nice patio and dining area too. Exposed beams in the ceiling adds quaintness, and a booth that wraps around the building ensures there are plenty of comfy seats available(at most times). A great spot to read, do homework, or have a conversation… and enjoy exceptional coffee!

I wanted to like this place, seriously… But how can you call yourself a coffee shop, with NO wi fi??? Huh? Huh? Riddle me that. The coffee was tasty, as I had some kind of drink with heavy cream in it – very heavy, but woke me up QUICK. The baristas, not the friendiest of sorts. Sorry, but big business Starbucks wins this round.
