I’ve been meaning to review this place but just never got a chance to. But after having a conservation with a group of friends about restaurants we’ve been to, they mentioned Dogarz Doner. Then I remembered I need to write this review. First of all the owner is hella nice. Food is huge! Enough for leftovers. The bread is nice and crispy. Lots of veggies. Tender and flavorful meat, especially the lamb. Sauce is perfect. I need another excuse to visit again. If the parking wasn’t so small and in downtown, I’d probably visit quite often.

A real fest for the taste buds!!! I had the lamb & beef doner, spicy with feta cheese. My girlfriend had the chicken salad. Both dishes were delicious. We were the only customers for a while tonight. Tables were clean, staff friendly. We will be back for more!

Doner is well-made and good-tasting. Staff is friendly. Ideal for a lazy night. Fish salad is great when you want to «go light». Make sure to get the spicy sauce to go authentic. Doner me is also excellent. Meat can be doubled at a marginal cost.

Last week I accidentally met with my school friend and we didn’t have an idea what we were in the mood for. We stumbled upon Dogarz Diner and ordered beef and lamb sandwiches. I haven’t eaten such delicious sandwich in a long time. The bread is so tasty, yummy white sauce and lots of veggie. The sesame seeds didn’t taste that good, I don’t like it on a bread. As for the service, I like how helpful and friendly was the staff. This place is good enough to be back.

Another love at first visit that I stumbled upon on Unilocal! This dish tastes like the familiar lamb & beef kebab on rice that I always adore from the Halal Guys in NYC! Except it’s in Houston and it makes me feel better about myself since the meat is nested on a bed of beautiful and vibrant fresh veggies. You can say that this is a bigger, tastier, Turkish-version of Chipotle. Whatever you wanna call it, it’s AFFORDABLEQUALITYDELISCIOUSNESS! Can’t get enough of this dish that I am seriously thinking of going back for dinner as well. In case you can’t decide on your choice of protein, go half-and-half. I got fish and lamb & beef. Yum yum! Will definitely come back for more. This place seriously deserves more love and attention from the foodies in H-town. So tell your friends, tell your family, your neighbors, your classmates, roommates, coworkers, your boss, or even that random person you somehow ran into twice on campus today! Come here and get your doner crave fixed! ;)

First time here and it was absolutely delicious. The ingredients in the beef and lamb doener were excellent. My only complaint was the bread. It wasn’t bad but it could be of better quality? The doener I had in munchen Bahnhof still beats this but this place comes in as a close second… With better bread it might take the crown. I was also ecstatic about the spice the doener had. Perfect spice to flavor ratio but I like it real spicy.

Full disclosure: one of the reasons I first joined Unilocal was to find places like Dögarz Döner. It’s a small hole in the wall place that has not quite found itself in the limelight. I hope they get the light soon to keep their doors open for years to come because the food is AMAZING! The store itself is very cozy. And if your home has Ikea furniture, you’ll find Dögarz Döner quite homey because all the furnishings and decorations were definitely sourced there. I ordered a DönerMe, the sandwich version with a lamb and beef combo. Now, a Döner is Turkish fast food where the meat is cooked on a vertical rotisserie like a gyro or shawarma. This method of slow cooking makes the meat super tender while preserving the juices. They slice it super thin here into what can be best described as meat shavings. They also serve chicken, fish, and vegetarian versions of their dishes. Aside from the Döners, they also have lettuce wraps and salads. The first thing I thought when I bit into my DönerMe: SOFRESH. Then it registered my hands held pita bread. I’m so used to the flimsy pitas that are thin and cannot hold up to a hardy filling. Dögarz Döner has figured out how to fortify the pita. It’s a little bit thicker without becoming dry or chewy. It’s also topped with toasted sesame seeds baked right into the dough. Hello German influence. Their pita is the perfect vehicle for the meat and vegetables: cucumber, cilantro, corn, purple cabbage, and tomato(which I realize is a fruit but it fits right in). The filling is permeated by a delicious yogurt-garlic sauce seasoned with multiple spices. I like heat so I made my order spicy, which gave me a pleasant tingle. Though I admit, one of my friends says my version of acceptable spiciness is skewed considering I eat«gasoline on fire» so do the spicy at your own risk. My friend said the mild was just right for her. To round out my Döner, I ordered feta for that extra saltiness. Everything melds together perfectly. Will definitely be back to try everything else on their menu!

First of all, let me say YUMYUMYUM! I’ve had this place bookmarked for so long, but never bothered to visit because it’s far and I’m never in this area. My boyfriend and I had to run errands around here and were lucky to see this place and decided to give it a try for the first time. DONERME(lamb and beef) The portion is huge! I love the crispy bread. The lamb and beef was light and I love all the vegetables that were added. They gave a lot and the bread was filled. The vegetables were all fresh and added such a nice texture and a deeper layer of flavors to the dish overall. The lamb and beef were so tender and flavorful. Everything really tasted so well together. I especially love the addition of corn because it adds a nice sweetness, the tomatoes gave some acidity, and the cucumbers and cilantro were very refreshing. I definitely want to come back here and order this again. It’s so flavorful and so light. I ate the whole thing by myself and was so full, but I didn’t feel heavy. Everything tasted so fresh and I really love that the ladies behind the counter were so friendly and sweet. The only downside is. there’s no parking! The parking lot space is so limited that it’s impossible to park anywhere.

Friendly staff, they have three types of items, Lettuce Warp, Salad and Sandwich. i had the Lamb/Beef sandwich, with all the vegies, its was really nice and very fulfilling. i would be going there again. I asked the cashier about halal food and he confirmed that all items are Halal.

Dogarz Doner is kind of a hidden gem in midtown Houston. It’s so difficult to stumble on so if you’re not searching for it on purpose, I won’t probably see this spot. Their food is yummy, fresh and more important, very healthy! I came there with my daughter and she ordered only a dessert. As for me, I got a great lamb meat sandwich. It was served on lettuce, so adorable. The staff just like the owner of a spot were super helpful and friendly. Great service at reasonable price!

The food was ok. I got the beef and lamb doner sandwich. The bread had a unique texture, it was a toasted pita bread. My sandwich was very similar to a gyro sandwich. I went here with my colleagues everyone had the same type of sandwich but which different meat choices, except one of my colleagues he had a salad and said it was amazing.

Had a groupon for here and went with the DonerMe and DonerChi. Both of them were really yum and I asked for the sauces on the side, so it came with 4 little containers of plum, tamarind, and 2 other creamy sauces. Hot sauce is optional too. The chicken was coated in this sauce, and I liked it a lot. Also liked the colorfulness of the whole dish and the variety of veggies.

The place to go when you’re looking for a quick bite to eat for lunch that is just something different from the norm. Trust me when I tell you stick to the mixed meat. The chicken and fish have a terrible consistency and tasted odd to me. Getting it in kebab is delicious, but the salad is a good alternative. The feta cheese is pricey, but like adding guacamole to a burrito it’s worth it. It’s an awesome alternative to the standard sandwich, burrito, or lunch that would be brought from home. A casual delicious place that almost everyone can enjoy. Vegetarians have the option for falafel which, from what I heard, is respectable and delicious. Get the Groupon for extra added value of two for one. The check-in also gets you free dessert.

The food was okay… it’s definitely missing a few middle eastern seasonings! For $ 10.00 I would expect a heavier plate that would actually fill me up! On another note I asked for the wrap but they gave me the salad! And eeeeew why is there water in the bottom of my food?!

FYI — This place is Turkish — They make the staff there wear hats — despite not being Turkish… Cleared up the name for me after seeing the hats, but, looked kind of ridiculous seeing a Mexican person wearing a Turkish hat. Reviewing all items of consequence on the menu — which is extremely short(FYI) — you are selecting from Lamb/Beef, Chicken, and one other meat variety. You can then get them in sandwich, lettuce wrap, bowl, ETC. Opted for the sandwiches in the name of being classical. Definitely a place to go — it’s good. The bread is crisp and fresh, that said, by the time you are finished you’ll be dealing with a soggy morsel at the end — which speaks to the other ingredients in the sandwich — it’s an interesting mess of good ingredients — which seemed fair in quality. From the pictures you’ll be able to tell what’s what — my only comment is that if you get cheese the taste is a bit overwhelming to the other ingredients involved. That said, I would re-order as I did, since I think it was best to stay true to the way they make it there. In terms of ambiance, good modern furniture, but a bit weird that the walls were an almost lime green. Went there around 6 on a week day, place was empty save for a single mom.

I was extremely pleasantly surprised by this little place. The baklava wasn’t great, and you have to watch over them and make sure they don’t include stuff you don’t want if you don’t want everything, otherwise they’ll just throw everything on there. Made that mistake — I thought they would ask. Otherwise, this place is great. First, the bread they use is really good. I enjoyed the sauces that they used too. I am actually glad that I didn’t hover over and nitpick what I wanted because otherwise I would’ve missed out on quite a bit of stuff that I wouldn’t have otherwise included on my doner. And, if I remember correctly, it wasn’t that expensive. Overall, a very positive experience.

This place is AMAZING. The food is delicious! The spicy sauce has a great flavor. I got the DönerLettMe which is like a gyro that comes on lettuce wraps. It Dönot lett me down! I just got off a paleo/low carb diet and it’s a shame I didn’t know about this place earlier. The wraps came out with plenty of lamb/beef and TONS of flavor. Split a churro and baklava for dessert. Everything here is so good. Staff is friendly attentive and focused on quality. This place is a hidden gem and must try!

Stopped in the other night when I couldn’t really decide what I was in the mood for. The lamb/beef sandwich was really tasty — massive portion size, tons of veggies and white sauce(my favorite part!), and toasty bread. I didn’t love the sesame seeds on the bread, but it was no big deal really. Also, the girls working behind the counter were super friendly and helpful. Great service. The only thing I was disappointed with was not knowing they had fries until I read the Unilocal reviews later on. I really wanted some as a side, but I guess I missed them on the menu.

I came here initially on a Unilocal event and enjoyed the food so much that I have stopped by 3 – 4 times since. My favorite is the DönerMe(meat) which is very flavorful. The DönerChi(chicken) on the other hand did not do it for me, which is odd because as far as Shawarmas go I prefer chicken to beef. The DönerFi(fish) is Ok as flavor goes but the fact that its made from Basa makes it unappealing to me — like Tilapia it is not a fish that I would normally eat.

The best fish salad I’ve ever had! Well flavored crispy battered fish bites on the salad. You have the option to make it spicy which is just enough of a comfortable zest to your day! The restaurant was clean, service was pretty fast, and the seating isn’t comfortable. It’s hard to get adequate bang for your buck sq footage inside the loop I get it, in order to have seating to dine in they have«American girl» lunch tables and chairs! You definitely wanna eat fast and get outta the chair! I will definitely swing thru for a Togo order!

Dogarz Doner is a nationwide chain that has made it’s way to Houston. A couple blocks away from the flashy Midtown district occupied by Izayaka, Rico’s, and others, Dogarz is located in a small shopping center along with Starbucks. Parking is available but limited so it’s a crap shoot. This is a quick service Turkish restaurant similar in many ways to Verts Kebab but better! I went with the lamb and beef doner which comes with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, cilantro, corn, and a mix of five sauces. Instead of being served in something similar to a tortilla like a kebab or schwarma is typically served, this came in a type of sesame bread. Delicious, the blend of sauces gave the doner a flavorful kick and while the meat was a bit dry, it was complemented well by the bread. We shared the fries and poutine and the poutine was definitely the better of the two sides. If you’ve never had poutine, it’s one of the greatest Canadian inventions of all time. Traditionally, take some fries and smother them with cheese curds and gravy. Dogarz take on poutine withheld the gravy but it was still amazing and featured thicker cut fries than the regular fries. The interior is trendy and has a homey vibe which deco that you would typically see in a home. Check it out, there is also a 10% off Unilocal deal you can unlock by checking in!

I hardly ever pass out 5-stars, so this place it super good. How good? Like my co-workers and I ate here 3 times in one-week… and again the next. It is so flavorful and fresh! I always got the salads with the white sauce. Because I was SO excited about how good this place was, I told my hubby we would go to a place«similar» that was closer to our house. Only problem was, that place was horrible(vertskebap). He has yet to try this amazing place! Cannot wait to eat here again. Parking can be tough, but that’s mid-town. At least they are in a strip center! Just wait a sec. starbucks people come and go!

When we went, it was completely deserted. The grill for the lamb/beef wasn’t on so my meat wasn’t hot but I still enjoyed my dogar oh so much! I got the beef/lamb sandwich. The bread is crispy on the outside, and soft in the middle. Loaded with lots of vegetables and meat, it was just super flavorful! I love the garlic sauce(reminds me of Phoenicia’s garlic sauce) but it really wasn’t needed. I asked for the spicy sauce on the side and it was quite tasty. My bf got the fish and his was much hotter than mine. The fish was crispy and freshly fried. Sneaking suspicion its just frozen fish filets but still tasty. Good lunch choice for midtown that is cheaper and faster than most places around it!

After hearing nothing but good things about this Midtown spot, I grabbed a late lunch today. The ambience is casual but classy. I was warmly greeted by the employees in their kitschy fez’s. The food was outstanding, with a delicious mix of vegetables, meat and bread in a perfect ratio. I didn’t try the fries or sides, but can report that the beef/lamb döner is excellent. Parking is a bit limited.

Even though it is not explicitly listed on the menu or website, Dogarz has a vegetarian option with falafels as a filling. The portions are huge but appropriate because you are paying almost 10 dollars for one. Bread is thick enough where it doesn’t easily get soggy from the toppings. They fry the falafels on order but I get the sense that they were frozen since they don’t taste as fresh as other places I’ve been to. Feta cheese is an up-charge but I feel it does not add to the taste to be worth it. Staff is cordial except for the one weird time a cashier chided me about the environment when I asked for a paper receipt even though it could be emailed to me.

I feel like if a place only has three main choices(with possible variations) on their menu, they better be amazing. I decided to get the chicken«doner,» but was disappointed with what I got. I didn’t take pictures because I was really hungry, but I would not classify the chicken in my sandwich as doner. It wasn’t bad, but I think it’s kind of misleading to have doner in the title when it definitely was not cooked in the typical way on a rotisserie like the meat gyro. I recently came to the realization that doner kebabs, gyro kebabs, and shawarma are basically the same thing with different names, and I have had chicken shawarma meat so I know what it’s supposed to be like, and the chicken here is definitely something else entirely. I think if I were to come again, I’d get the doner fish(which I believe I heard the owner say that it’s actually fried) since it seems different, but I would also not have any expectations. Overall, I was not that impressed with my sandwich, but that was because I was expecting something different from what I got.

We’ve been looking for a delicious doner place, and this place caught our eye on Unilocal.Parking is a definitely problem at this place as the complex is small and shared with a Starbucks. I’ve tried the DonerFi and the DonerMi, and the DonerFi is the definite winner out of the two. The fish is nicely battered in some herb batter that really stands out. The sandwich is also piled with vegetables, which gives a nice freshness. One of my coworkers actually ordered the salad form, and I’ll have to try that next time. The salad looks just as good especially if you’re trying to cut out the carbs.

Been here several times and have yet to be disappointed with the spicy lamb/beef doener, which rivals any I’ve had in Kreuzberg or the Eigelstein quarter. Adding fries to the menu was a good move. The staff are swell. Long live Dogarz!

Excellent hybrid concept with a very gracious host. Zubair is so nice and welcoming. I ordered a beef lamb gyro to go. The bread really makes the sandwich. It’s like Berber nan from India, very thick and crispy. Didn’t get soggy. I really like the concept and the execution. Donor really hits the spot with all the chipotle like fixins.

Solid and unique little fusion joint. Zubair, the owner, is incredibly kind and here’s what he shared about the food/concept at a recent event: His wife is from Frankfurt, Germany and he is from Canada. They wanted to open a doner restaurant(doner kebab = Turkish kebab sandwich commonly sold as street food in Germany), but not for it to be the same as all the usual suspects they encountered in Germany. Sooooo, they fusionized(you didn’t know fusionized was a word?) this Turkish sandwich by incorporating spices common in Italian and Indian food, using Armenian bread for the buns, and being inventive with the fillings(apparently they are the only doner shop in the world offering crispy fried fish as a filling instead of the usual lamb/beef). There’s your background, here’s my take: Döners: — beef/lamb — yummy and flavorful, bread is delightfully crispy on outside but soft on inside! — fish — tried this one for special event without doner bread, and it was delectably crispy, and depending on how it would taste in bun with the fixin’s, it might be my fave. –chicken — I’d skip when other options are so good. Dessert: — Sigara — AMAZING! Like a Turkish churro! Dough rolled up with Nutella and fresh whipped cream… mmmmmmm. HOT and fresh! Atmosphere: nice — has the feel of fastish food chain that serves clean, fresh stuff, like a chipotle, but definitely nicer and more unique with bright green walls and chandeliers. Great, unique place in midtown!

Very simple menu. Pick a meat(lamb/beef, chicken, or fish). Pick a vessel(bread, salad, or a lettuce wrap). Pick a spicy sauce(yes, no). It’s like a Chipotle burrito got together with a Mediterranean gyro and the baby turned out to be a beautiful, delicious mixed child.

Eating here was a great experience! We stopped by for lunch around 1, and it wasn’t very crowded, so we could chat with the guy behind the counter. He was very nice and talkative, and he let me get a DonerFi as a salad, with the bread on the side without charging me extra: D. I really appreciated that. I heard that the sandwiches tend to fall apart(and I believe that, but it’s just because there’s so much goodness exploding out of it). I’m glad I got the salad because then I could eat it without it being too messy, and I could still eat the bread with the food. It’s a little pricy($ 8.25/$ 8.50 for an entrée) but the portion sizes are really big. All the ingredients looked fresh, and the food was prepared carefully. It was delicious too! The fish was fried very nicely, and it was super flavorful and tender. The bf got the DonerMi and it was also good(but not as unique, IMO. Gyro meat is pretty standard). I think his bread was toasted more than mine, and it was slightly crunchy and savory with the sesame seeds. So good! We were both very satisfied with our meal and the service here. We’d like to come back and support this local business that genuinely cares about the food they’re making :).

Delicious shawarma alternative, healthy ingredients. Tasty pita bread. The location is close to downtown, but you still need a car to drive there, unless the weather is cooperating and you work close to the south part of downtown. It’s across the street from BW3 and next to Starbucks. Your choices are fish, chicken and beef/lamb combo. You can have a regular doner sandwich in pita, or order the doner as lettuce wraps. Both versions are the same price. The bread is not your typical flat pita bread, and is almost like ciabatta. Very tasty with the meat and vegetables. I would think that if a healthy lettuce wrap version was available, that calories would be listed somewhere. Calories are nowhere to be found, and the company website is very basic with only pictures for the menu. I ordered the beef/lamb combination(donerMe) with the pita bread and all ingredients. I was asked if I wanted feta cheese, and agreed… it was a dollar surcharge, but didn’t know until afterwards. I also ordered it spicy. DD has a good selection of drinks, and fountain drinks are a reasonable $ 1.50. The sandwich is delicious. When you order a shawarma, normally you receive a minimal amount of vegetables. The doner has a solid amount of meat and a fair amount of vegetables. Very big… it is almost like eating a salad sandwich. If you like ordering a sandwich at Subway with all of the vegetables, you will like DD. The donerMe had just about the right amount of spiciness without getting hot. I did enjoy the feta cheese add-on, and the beef/lamb combination was excellent. My coworker had the fish, and I tried a fried fish nugget. The fish was cooked just right and was very tasty. Next time, I will definitely try the fish Doner. This sandwich was so big that the bread could not hold all of the ingredients. I had to use half of my buddy Vik’s styrofoam container for the contents of the now soggy paper cone that held the sandwich. Tip: get a plate and eat the doner like a salad and the bread on the side!!! The chairs that we sat in were very uncomfortable. Very IKEA-like in look and feel. I could not stay in my seat very long after finishing my meal. That’s ok. I just had to venture next door for a dopio at Starbucks before going back to the car. The funniest thing about DD is the name. Going back to the office and telling your coworkers that you had a «doner for lunch» warrants instant 3rd-grade snickers from the guys. Still, this Turkish version of shawarma is worth a stop.
