I’ve been coming here for years and I don’t recall being so grossed out with the place until now. The food is fine, just don’t get here too late or else they’ll stop serving food and you’re left with whatever’s that’s out. Anyways back to my main issue, the eating utensils are so gross. I specifically mean the soup spoons coz they’re always damp and have food residue or oil stains on it. The forks they give you are pretty clean since they wrap those in napkins, but they need to clean the damn spoons. The soup bowls are pretty nasty too coz they’re damp with oil stains. The worst part is the fact that there were large food particles still on multiple bowls. Other than that, the staff is helpful(with the exception of some that could use more manners). I hope they improve their cleanliness because someone could get sick. E star is actually one of my favorite Chinese buffets and I suppose they all have small issues here and there, but I would like to continue to feel okay eating here.

The employees at this restaurant are barely phoning it in. Peanut chicken is made with peanut butter but no peanuts, crab Rangoon has absolutely no crab, the dumplings are foul, and the soup is leftover from I-don’t– know-when-but-it-sure-isn’t-fresh. There is Sushi, which I don’t eat but I was told doesn’t always suck but today was also leftover from whenever. The buffet line is spread out but even the usual lineup of Americanized«Chinese» food was short and lackluster. The pizza was once frozen in a box, as were the fried tacos.(Tacos?!) The desserts, like so many of this type of buffet, are the sad stale cookies of the Dollar store discount shelf and the usual runny chocolate pudding. Not even the ice cream feels the need to try and just oozes out and down the cone. Fried biscuit dough was fun when my mom made it in the 70s and called it homemade donuts, but I don’t think it’s Asian so why is it in every Chinese restaurant? Seriously, if you don’t know how to actually cook, don’t open a restaurant.

Have eaten at this location before but lately the food has been beyond gross. I recently went this past Saturday and let’s just say that it is now Tuesday and still getting over the uncooked chicken they had with the broccoli and chicken. The piece of chicken I ate felt gummy and jello like as if it was not chicken at all. I will not be returning for that reason exactly. Also the guys cleaning up the area where the food was at were using towels to toss the food back in the pans!

This is my favorite chinese Buffet in houston. Food is always fresh, theres always so much food. A lot of variety, the staff is nice and attentive. My only issue is that they should have pot stickers and also the donuts are not as good as they used to be.

Keywords that describe the food here: questionable, stringy, cartilage, Luke-warm, bland, disgusting. I understand it’s a buffet, but it cost $ 12. I know tons of Chinese buffets that are way better for 7.99 including a drink, really not worth it to me.

Crowded place; don’t understand why though. Food was awful. Some of the chicken was so tough I chewed and chewed and finally had to discreetly spit into a napkin. Another chicken dish was way too salty. Other things were just tasteless. Will not go back.

Had lunch at this location today. I was so very disappointed. Food looked good but it was tasteless and cold. General Tso’s Chicken was a disgrace no spicy peppers found. Evev the ice cream/yogurt was tasteless. My husband and I have had better meals at other chinese resturants. We wasted $ 24.00 on lunch. This lunch experience was horrible. We will not return r recommend this buffet to anyone. Please go somewhere else!

Cold food. Meats over cooked, dry and tough. Friendly staff, much more so than other Asian restaurants! They checked the temp of the tables after I mentioned foods were cold, then raised the temp. Many other better resto options to choose than this place.

This place isn’t bad because the food is almost always fresh. Plus the overall flavor is not bad and the staff is rather friendly.

The BEST Chinese buffet I’ve ever had aside from Kim Son. In fact sometimes I feel like the two buffets are a tie in my heart. I’ve never left here disappointed. They have good sushi(always fresh whenever I come) delicious warm soup with those yummy crunchy egg crackers(I think that’s what they are called?) they also have the BEST tasting chicken wings I’ve ever tried at a buffet. Highly recommend those chicken wings! I live on the other side of town of this buffet but the drive has alwaysssss been worth it each time. Bring ya kids, bring ya wife, and bring ya grandma & her cousin to this buffet! You won’t regret it!

Awful… not worth the money. Every dish tastes the same and chicken is very rubbery texture. Sushi not good either. I would go somewhere else.

Good food. Great selection. I just wish the food had more flavor. If you close your eyes you would have a hard time telling most dishes apart. But I would go back.

E Star Chinese Buffet blew off my socks! This place was packed and food was turned over very quickly with new hot trays coming out constantly. Now that’s a good sign of a good buffet. I haven’t been to buffets in ages because I was tired of cold food that has been sitting in trays for hours but at E Star, expect hot food, freshly cooked with a high turnover rate. The food selection was pretty good. They had deep dried foods(spring rolls, fries, chicken), many protein options(beef, chicken, pork), seafood(Salmon, crawfish, clams, fish, shrimp and even sushi), carbs(rice, noodles, even pasta, buns), a salad bar, 3 different soup options(like wonton soup), fruit selection(on the weak side, lots of melons, grapes, and oranges), and dessert including a self serve soft ice cream bar(chocolate or vanilla)! Yummy! The sushi selection was plentiful with a few plates of sashimi(although some of it was still frozen… I prefer that over«warm sitting out too long sashimi»). The flavour, of course, is not the same as an authenic Japanese restaurant but hey, what can you expect — you’re in Texas at a Chinese buffet! You get a great selection here and it’s all you can eat, so you can have a little bit of everything. Thoughts on the space: Huge parking lot, clean interior with many TVs going, bright colourful lights(like a casino). The dining area is very large with lots of room for large groups and even a private room at the back. It’s about $ 14 per person + Beverages cost extra. The service is non-existent, but again, it’s a buffet and self serve, so you got to have lower expectations. Pretty good for a Chinese Buffet. I’d go back again.

We were excited to find this place close to home. We LOVE Asian food – especially sushi. The first few pieces must have been well selected by me, because everything seemed normal for a cheap buffet. I was even impressed by their selection of nigiri and sashimi! However, I grabbed a piece of sashimi and threw it in my mouth and immediately spit it out – which I never do. It was frozen. I had crunched into it. It definitely threw me off my sushi game. So I ventured into their safer foods that are over Americanized. Like crab Rangoon. Worst I’ve had in my life. Dim sum? Terrible. They did have a dish that was similar to a tribal northern Thai mango yum dish that was authentic and decent. I don’t know. We came in with high hopes and left a little hungry and disappointed.

I eat at quite a few Asian buffets and this is one of the better ones. The main thing that sets it apart is the sushi. In addition to the well-constructed sushi they set out plates of raw tuna and salmon. Service was kind and engaged. I will go back if I’m back in the area.

I stopped by here yesterday after hearing a few coworkers rave about it… I have been looking for a good Chinese place with good ratings. Anywho judging by the outside and this side of 290… the place does look a little sketchy, but I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was on the inside. I didn’t use their restroom so I don’t know if it was clean or not, but the dining area and buffet line were clean. They have something of everything from regular mall like food, to sushi, to seafood, to pizza and chicken tenders. A few things I was a little turned off by… a waiter coughingand not washing his hands and another waiter sneezed on his shirt… yuck! But they weren’t waiting on me so… Overall I enjoyed the food at this location and would return, but I will not visit on the weekend. It’s $ 11.99 on the weekend

Went for lunch on a Monday around noon. The place was clean and well laid out. The buffet are was clean and well stocked. The quality of the food was good but some dishes had a little too much salt and some not enough but I would rather have too little salt. The pepper dishes could have used a little more pepper. Waitstaff were on the ball for cleanup but a little tardy on the check but the lateness is to be expected in a lunch rush. All in all it was an enjoyable experience for a buffet. I would eat there again.

Very nice selection of fresh seafood. I mostly enjoyed the sushi. The rangoons were very good. The eggrolls were very big. The shrimp w/pineapples was a nice twist. The chicken on a stick was piping hot and fresh. I even tried some icecream allthough i’m a yogurt type of girl. The cookies they had seem homemade. All in all I will be going back for more!!!

I’m not a big fan of buffets but my family loves them. They told me, however, that this was one of the worst food and service experiences ever. The selection and quality was not only poor, the waiters tried to force everyone to leave 30 min before closing because it was slow. They even closed the ice-cream machines down and the kids were all disappointed.

I’m not a fan of Chinese buffets… I ended up here because I had no choice. My friends like it so I went along with it. I went on a Sunday and it was pretty packed, but the service was fast and I give them that. To me it is just like any other Chinese buffet. Bunch of food and really nothing special. There was something really off about the soups. I had the hot and sour soup and the broth was extremely strong in smell. I think they made it with that strong chicken stock they use for everything. The smell was so strong I had a couple of sips and it made me feel sick to my stomach. From that moment on, I decided I was not going to touch the meat. I had the salad bar instead, and it was pretty good,(I’m happy I went for the veggies instead). I had the stir fry, yes, they have a stir fry bar that you can actually get fresh sauteed vegetables, meat, shrimp, or whatever thing they have there. I only did vegetables and mushrooms and I did not like it; I couldn’t even finish it. They also have an ice cream bar which was pretty good. Lot of seafood. Their seafood seemed fresh and clean but I did not dare to try it. They had a lot of crawfish, and again, I did not dare to try it. Overall, not a bad experience. People seem to love this place, but since I do not do Chinese buffets in general, my opinion is rather subjective. I paid $ 17.00 with tip and a domestic beer. Not bad.

Okay I admit I’ve gone here a number of times. At one time it was the very best Chinese Buffet it Houston. Seems now that it’s gotten so popular, that its lacking a bit in service. They have also changed the flavor of their peel and eat shrimp. It’s okay, but not nearly as good as it was when it first opened. The sesame chicken is a little too sweet here and the other similar varieties of that dish is also a bit to sweet. But what they do have is some of the best catfish you can find in Houston. Even better than most seafood restaurants. If you go only for that, you will be highly satisfied. I’m giving this 3 stars because it’s lost its flare for me. They have another one on 1960 in the Champions area that’s definitely a 5 star. It’s newly opened and has a great atmosphere. It’s much better for groups than the Jones road location. I will not recommend the Jones road location for groups of 8 or more.
