Came here one night for dinner because I didn’t want to make the long trek to Chinatown. I ordered the kimchee jjigae and the boyfriend ordered some cold noodles. I saw a set of banchan already laid out on a cart that was next to the counter. I hoped that they wouldn’t serve it to us, but they did… who knows how long it was sitting there. My soup had tons of kimchee(which is a good thing), but only two pieces of tofu. Are you kidding me? Tofu is not that expensive. My boyfriend’s noodles were clumped together… It was difficult to split the noodles apart, so we had to basically eat the noodles in clumps(gross). I really wanted to like this place because of all the great reviews, but the food was not up to par. It was also expensive. Final Verdict: stay away!

The food here sucks. They give you alot of side dishes but no flavor on any of them. Service was nice.

So I’ve never done Korean food, but my father, a who is retired vet living in the nearby nursing home, has been adamant about getting a kimchi fixed. So he got the kimchi fried rice and I got the seafood tofu soup. Out comes this huge plate of the fried rice for my father that is big enough to feed four and a plethora of sides that I can’t even recognize. I tasted everything: eggcake(pass), coleslaw/potato salad(actually tasty) p, cold greens(yummy), glazed potatoes(interestingly good). And my seafood tofu soup was very good and very filling. Couldn’t finish it all after not being able to identify some of the crustaceans. Staff was very nice and love the private seating areas. It’s not my type of food, but I would take my father back upon request. Oh yeah and the rice juice they serve at the end of the meal is really delish! My father loved this place.

It can still get up to 80 degrees in the middle of December? That’s Houston for you, ridiculous bipolar ass weather. BUT there was a freak cold front a couple weeks ago that had me totally hankering for a biggo volcanic hot bubbling clay bowl of soondubu jjigae, Korean soft tofu and seafood stew. I love cold weather, reminds me of bundling up in wool coats, boots, fluffy scarves, Snuggies — if that’s what you’re into. Soondubu jjigae definitely comes to mind when I think of winter. Clears up them sinuses, is flavorful and makes your insides all warm and fuzzy. This place is easy to find, it’s in the plaza just past HMart as you go down Blalock from I10. Can’t miss it. However, it now goes by Go Hyang Jib Korean Restaurant, a mess of korean letters atop of ‘Korean Restaurant” nice and big, if you can’t read Korean, you can identify it that way. I get inside and there are two tables of chatty ahjummas, older Korean ladies, good sign. Must be good. The waitress is very accommodating, seeing that my brother and I were clearly not Korean she gave us the English companion guide for deciphering the menu, even though we didn’t need it :) Yay! I order a soondubu jjigae and bulgogi combo and my brother orders his safe-order of dolsot bibimbap. The banchan spread is pretty standard. They have my favorite banchan side dish, gamja jorim, sweet soy sauce glazed potatoes. SOGOOD. Their kimchi was oddly sweet and bitter, not my cup of tea. Odeng, stir fried fish cakes, hell yes. They aren’t stingy with refilling the banchan either. I always love how Korean stews come out of the kitchen like a roaring hell fire in a bowl, my stomach lining weeps in fear. I stir up the egg concealed at the bottom of the bowl to get the egg ribbons a-flowing and I feast, burning every crevice in my mouth. The soondubu jjigae is not the best I’ve had but it’s still quite good, a shit ton of chunks of zucchini and silky tofu. But whatever seafoody bits there were in the stew were indiscernible, which was disappointing. The soup was a little less salty and not as spicy as most jjigaes I’ve had, but kind of in a good way, for the days you want something a little refreshing. The bulgogi was definitely a huge letdown, it didn’t come out of the kitchen sizzling, sad face. The meat was dry and tough and half of the platter was onions, carrots and cabbage. I ended up dumping it into the jjigae, which made for a pretty good save. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t how the combo was intended to be eaten though. No complaints from my brother about the bibimbap, looked pretty standard, although it could’ve used more meat. It also came with miso soup, which is nice. Dessert is shik hae, a sweet rice drink that is totally delicious and apparently good for digestion. Great way to end the meal. ~$ 15+tip for my meal isn’t too bad but I think I could find a better combo elsewhere for the same price. I wouldn’t mind coming here again to try something else though, it’s not bad. A homey place to jam to some old school Kpop over a steamy bowl of jjigae.

Pretty easy to find, the place is now called Korean Restaurant and is right after H Mart on Blalock. My fiancé and I stopped in at 9 o’clock on a Wednesday night. It was pretty empty for the most part, with only one or two families around. The place was small but very clean. The staff was was friendly and we were greeted as soon as we walked in and seated. This wasn’t my fiancé’s and my first time having Korean food. We tend to usually order the same thing at Korean restaurants and go from there in terms of how good we think the place is. Well this evening, we were going to do our usual Bibimbap and Bulgogi order with the seafood pancake as an appetizer. Our waiter, who in all fairness, didn’t speak very good English but was still very helpful and friendly got our orders mixed up and we ended up with a hotpot of sorts that had beef and veggies served in a hot stone bowl. Never had it before but it was still very good, tender and flavorful. The squash, tofu, and kimchi were alright. A little disappointed that my Bibimbap craving wasn’t assauged, but I’ll definitely be back again.

I think this place is now call Korean Restaurant. So straight forward. This is another place my husband and I have our tofu soup and Bibimbap. It isn’t as good as Nam Gang but the price is a lot more reasonable plus banchans are different so we will go there too. We still want to try something new because every time we step in some people are eating something that looks a more interesting than what we are going to order. But for their orders, you do need a bigger crowd. I really need to make an effort to find more friends who are not constantly on a diet.

This place is now called Korean Restaurant. To start off my review, my boyfriend and I came here Sunday evening around 7pm and this place was PACKED. I was surprised! We had no expectation before coming in here so it was a little shocking needless to say. Him and I both sat down and ordered from the soups/stews/noodles portion of the menu. I got the Beef Short Rib Noodles and boyfriend got the Blue Crab Stew. The bowls came out piping hot but not boiling like at other korean places. Both of our broths had flavor but were light and not heavy at all. The soups came with plentiful sides and we each got a bowl of the protein rice. I had about 5 pieces of ribs, tender with the meat falling right off and my bowl filled with green onions and daikon. Boyfriend’s stew had a plentiful amount of crab with the shell intact so it got a little messy but the meat was juicy and hot. They gave us each a small slice of watermelon to end the meal and on the way we went. Although flavors were present in our broths, they were heavy, nor were they bold so this is a great place to come and feel satisfied.

This is my second time coming to this Korean restaurant and I have to say I am happy with my visits. I don’t eat spicy food and no I don’t eat Korean food a lot, however I love what I have at this restaurant. This time I have the rice with veggie and beef in stone bowl, and I love the fact that I get to control how little spicy I want the dish to be. The food is always fresh and the waitresses are very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this spot for small family/friends gathering. The food doesn’t necessarily prepared quick enough(we waited quit a while), but you can be damn sure you will not be disappointed with what you ordered!!!

We order the bibim nangmyeon(spicy cold buckwheat noodles), dwaeji bulgogi(grilled marinated pork), galbi(beef short ribs), haemul soon doobu(seafood spicy tofu soup), and kim chi jiggae(kimchi stew)… ALLDELICIOUS. Actually, the galbi was okay to me. I thought the meat was a little tough. The bibim nangmyeon was my favorite! The prices are very reasonable and cheap compared the bigger korean bbq type restaurants. They have every type of korean food — noodles, soups, stews, bbq, other korean stuff I can’t really describe… oh and if you’re a bibimbop lover, they have a seperate menu of like 10 different rice bowls! Ahhh. I can’t wait to go back…

Found me a new favorite Korean restaurant! My wife had already had dinner, so I decided to be adventurous and eat at this little restaurant that I constantly pass by. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. First of all, if you go to a Korean restaurant, and you see that most of the customers are Korean, you know you can’t go wrong there. I had ordered the Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup(Jjam Pong?). It came with 6 side dishes, all of which are tasty and fresh. And the best part is, it’s cheaper than most of the Korean restaurants in town. After I got home, and told my wife the nice little meal I had, we ended up visiting the restaurant the very next day, again! I would definitely recommend this place to any of my friends. P. S. on the 2nd trip, we ordered the Seafood Pancake, BiBim cold noodles, and Gal Bi. They were all very delicious.

I had lunch here and there were plenty of lunch specials to choose from under $ 10. I had the Spicy Pork, which came with a side of rice and about six different veggie/sides, like Kim Chi, sauteed veggies, fried tofu, etc. With a drink $ 11 total. They will cook your order extra spicy if you request. While I’m not of Asian decent, when I see most of their clientele are Asian and 90% of the menu is written in Korean, I have to assume the food is reasonably authentic. It was certainly on par with most Korean places that I’ve eaten at in heavily ethnic neighborhoods. I liked it and the meat and veggies dishes were fresh and not blow-you-out-of-the-water spicy. Tasty, fresh, and easy on the wallet, I’d go there again and recommend it to any friend that likes Korean food.

We were supposed to go to Korea House but saw the traffic and decided to try out this joint. I would see it from time to time and was always curious since I just love the word«diner». We ordered the seafood pancake, galbi, and kim chi/tofu stew. Seafood pancake was decent. It seemed thicker than the usual places I’ve eaten at… think there was even shreds of carrots in there? Well I love any pancake… can’t mess up too much on that. I didn’t eat the soup so I can’t really rate it, but my bf seemed to enjoy it as he was mixing it with his rice. He said it was pretty spicy. As far as the galbi, I didn’t think it was that flavorful. I would have liked it more grilled. Sometimes you can just tell if something is going to be good by looking at the color of the food. The meat was also a bit fatty. For the side dishes, there was kim chi, fish cake, broccoli, bean sprouts, and potatoes. Not as much sides as other places but I could care less… just gimme my fish cake and kim chi and I’m happy! Place is very casual… definitely not a «diner»…but it’s small… quaint. Place seems pretty clean for the most part. Ladies there are pretty nice and you they actually pay attention to you when your cup needs a refill! This place is ok. Not sure if I would come back though.
