It took a trip to Spain for me to realize the difference in eggs. Spaniards eat a lot of eggs and I noticed how vibrant in color and taste the eggs were there… they were delicious. Unlike the ones I get in the grocery here. From that point forward I refused to buy dirt cheap supermarket eggs with no taste. Mr. Hattermann has the best eggs in Houston, hands down. So much so, I drive a long way to get them, when it’s feasible. Yes, he is kind but the important thing is he is a responsible farmer producing a quality product that is better for your health and tastes delicious!

Mr. Hatterman, if you are reading this, my wife says that you are one of the nicest, sweetest men she has ever met. Since I’m a guy, I can’t offer you quite the same compliment, but I must say, you are one friendly fellow. Mr. Hatterman is the purveyor of Hatterman Poultry Farm, a farm in Weimar, TX that supplies a number of Houston farmers markets with eggs from pastured, free-range, vegetarian fed chickens. In fact, if you ask, Mr. Hatterman has a book that he made that shows just how happy those chickens actually are. If you page through it, you’ll see page after page of chickens wandering around his farm, picking at who knows what, and laying delicious eggs. So, aside from getting to converse with a charming local farmer, you’re getting some pretty awesome eggs. Mr. Hatterman has a variety of eggs that you can choose from. I don’t want to quote prices, because I can’t remember prices for more than one or two, so I will do my best. Medium Brown: $ 1.50 per dozen if you buy 2 dozen or more(umm, I bought 6 dozen eggs for $ 9, organic eggs in the grocery store are $ 4 per dozen… who says buying local is more expensive?). If you only get one dozen, I *think* it is $ 2.50 per dozen Large White Large Brown Green eggs Duck Eggs: You can be a burger guy in your own home. By the way, beware of buying eggs from The Burger Guys that claim to be from Hatterman, he says he hasn’t sold any to The Burger Guys for quite some time. Imagine they have a new source. Upon getting home, you’ll get some of the freshest eggs you’ve ever had, as the eggs have been hand gathered just a short time before being trucked to market. You’ll witness some of the brightest, most vivid yolks you’ll ever see. Supporting farmers like Leon Hatterman is how we take back our eating from big food and an easy way to avoid salmonella. So, next time you’re at one of Houston’s many farmers markets, keep an eye out for Leon Hatterman. Never again will you look at eggs the same way again.
