Houston Aeros

Even thought they are no longer the Houston Aeros (Iowa Wild now) I wanted to review them just the same since they have provided me with such great memories over the years. I was a season ticket holder for six seasons and will miss it!

I LIKE MY MEN ON ICE!!! No really, I do… and I have the t-​shirt to prove it too! I became a fan of hockey in Denver when the Colorado Avalance won the Stanley Cup in their inaugural year. Can’t beat the new hometown team winning the Stanley Cup! I was a fan of hockey since that year. I will continue to love the men who enjoy playing a fast game on ice and will throw punches on the opposing team when the mouth or the behavior get out of control.
This is absolutely a sport where you need to back up your trash talk, because the refs will let the guys throw punches for a bit before they break it up. I despise the cold, but when it comes to the sport of hockey, I’m willing to suffer through the cold in order to enjoy a fast paced and violent sport that is always entertaining.
The Aeros are a farm team that are part of the AHL (American Hockey League), so this probably explains why the seats are usually only 20−30% sold on any given night. Personally, I think the ticket prices are a bit too high for a farm league, and there would probably be more spectators if they lowered the ticket prices.
I usually only catch a few games a season because the ticket prices are a bit too high, but every time I go, our boy’s pull off a win for me to celebrate every time. I am that undiscovered good luck charm for home teams. Any time I have been to a local home team game for any sport, our team always wins… ALWAYS. Lucky for me that I always get to celebrate a WIN on game days.
I love the Aeros games, but would prefer to see the ticket prices become more affordable to drive in the fans to make the energy of the crowd go way up!

I went to my first hockey game on April 14^th and let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I’ve never been a fan of hockey, never watched it on TV but my best friend had a groupon deal and invited myself and a date. Parking was easy breezy, getting to the arena and to our seats was a breeze! The game was fun, lots of cute performances and giveaways in between the periods. And who doesn’t love a good hockey fight? I’m hooked!
It was a great crowd, pretty packed on the first floor. If you’re looking for something fun, reasonably priced, date night or family night… go to an Aeros game! It was pretty awesome when they kicked San Antonio’s butt! I’m already excited to go back even w/​o the deal! It’s worth it!

Hockey play not close to NHL level.

I think everyone should give this team a shot. They are a really good team. I went to my first game this week and had a blast. I was lucky enough to get free tickets front row seats right behind the goal. Tickets are also cheaper than Rockets game tickets.
It’s at the Toyota Center, which transform into a ice box. Not a lot of people attend so only the first floor is used. They cover up the second floor with black curtains.
Great atmosphere, just give it a try!

My boyfriend’s 13-​year old nephew from Chicago was in town and we wanted to show him a great time. It just so happened that the Aeros were playing the Chicago Wolves the night we had him so I purchased our tickets online that day. I’m not a big fan of hockey but I love to go see any major sporting event live.
Parking at the Toyota Center was an absolute breeze. I actually somehow forgot to order my parking pass when I purchased my tickets. No problem. I paid the $ 7 in cash and zoomed into a spot in the garage next door.
I did a little research on concessions and found that there were quite a few healthy food options near the area we’d be seating. Unfortunately, I didn’t read the fine print on the website and not all the food vendors are open during Non-​Rockets events. No biggie. A personal plain cheese Papa Johns pizza and large bottled water set me back about $ 11. Boyfriend and nephew seemed to really enjoy their bacon cheeseburgers. We ogled a Swirll but they were limited on flavor options so we just visited the real deal after wards.
Our inexpensive seats were AWESOME! We were just behind the goal and close enough for the kiddo to drool over the cheerleaders. There were a lot of dedicated Aeros fans present and their heckling amused us. Houston didn’t win that evening, but we got to see some good fights on the ice. A great time was had by all.

Hands down – the best value for entertainment, sports, or entertaining sports in the city. BF and I attended a game recently thanks to a Groupon I just couldn’t pass up. $ 25 for two club access tickets, free parking and a picture with mascot Chilly at the end of the game (which BF talked me out of – big meanie) was a total no-​brainer to purchase. Redemption was easy-​peasy. We could print out our parking passes from home, and our tickets were waiting for us at will call. Coming to any event at Toyota Center is generally like passing through a well-​oiled machine, but the Aeros especially have it down to a T.
The fans at any Aeros game are great and mad intense, and I’m not just talking about the myriad chants that seem to break out en masse in unpredictable intervals. Or even the guy in the Superman costume that was inexplicably featured twice on the big screen. I’m mostly referring to the pair of folks I saw sporting one of the Aeros players’ University of Guelph jerseys. (Allow a moment to let that sink in.) When you’re wearing the college jersey of a minor league player, you are a verifiable, die-​hard, bonafide, rabid fan. Please print out your certificate and hang it on your wall – you’ve earned it.
This is just a topnotch organization. Everybody, from the driver who made his zamboni jerk like a low rider for the amusement of the crowds, to the rinkside attendant who gave a five year old in front of us a puck that escaped the ice, was friendly and cheerful. If you’re used to attending major league sports like the Rockets and Astros, you’ll be shocked at how close you can get to the action without having to auction off your first born child. We were seated to the left of center ice (which is where the «super nice» seats are) but felt we were practically on top of the players and definitely had to watch for flying pucks.
The best part of the night was getting to watch the Aeros win in overtime against the Milwaukee Admirals (sidenote: coolest logo in sports, anywhere) when earlier in the game it seemed like all was lost. Even without the Groupon, those really nice seats we were in are very reasonably priced, and we’re considering going back very soon. We left with huge grins on our faces, as it was the most fun we’ve had on date night in recent memory. Go!

Yes, its not the NHL, but you know what, its still fun. The team is very good, actually one of the best minor league clubs around right now. The tickets are cheap, great deals abound. The atmosphere is high energy for a small crowd. Nice place to go for a small group outing.
Houston is not known for being a hockey town, but the Aeros do a goood job of trying to change that. Do not expect it to be like an NHL rival matchup — just go and have a good time.
Plus fights break out more often in minor league hockey, and everyone loves a good hockey fight.

It has been almost 15 years since the last time I’ve been to a Hockey game. It was the Houston Aeros, even though the team name is the same all of the history tied to it is basically different. But that’s another story in itself.
When I last came I was still in elementary school and it was for my best friend’s birthday. So when I saw groupon had a deal for 2 tickets and parking for 25 bucks I decided what better way to celebrate my birthday then going to an Aeros game with my childhood best friend.
The venue has changed, no longer the summit and now at the Toyota center, but still a hell of a game.
I know very little about hockey… but you’re still out at a sporting event. We were lucky the home team scored late to tie it up so not only did we get to watch 3 action packed periods, there was OT, AND a shootout.
What better entertainment could you ask for?
Overall, if you wanna check out a live sporting event on the cheap this is the place to go!

So the guy I’m dating has been talking about the Aeros for ages. Apparently he is a hockey enthusiast…
He claims that the reason people at U of H basketball games yell out «And you still suck» after an opponent makes a free throw is because HE, stole the cheer from the Aeros games and popularized it at UH almost 8 years ago.
Do I believe him? Umm. not completely, buuut, I still wanted to go to an aeros game.
I found tickets with Groupon– two corner tickets, with free parking and a picture at the end of the game for $ 25. I had a Groupon $ 10 gift certificate, so the date turned out to cost all of $ 15. That is preeeetty cheap these days, not to mention awesome.
The atmosphere was great. I quickly got into the spirit of the game. Okay, so the Aeros kinda sucked compared to the other team, and even with 5 mins of power play, the Aeros couldn’t tie the game, but meh! It was pretty awesome.
I don’t know how I feel about people cheering when a fight in the ice breaks out. At first, my values in sportsmanship kicked in, and I felt dirty condoning such behaviour, but after the second period of the game, I have to admit, I was cheering for our guys to break something on someone else.
It’s a fun team, with a fun atmosphere. Perfect for a laid back date or just a no frills night out.

I’m The Aeros lucky charm… and they don’t even know it! I’ve been going to Aeros games with my dad a few times a year since I was in high school. I’ve still never been to a game they didn’t win.
They may not be NHL, but who needs NHL? Not me!
Aeros games are inexpensive to attend and a whole evening of fun. Plus, if you’ve never been able to afford club level tickets to the Rockets, you can certainly afford club level for the Aeros. So go to a game with great seats for less than $ 40 and check out the sweet life.

I have been an Aeros fan and an on and off (currently ON) season ticket holder since the early 90s.
We always sit in the attack zone — the end zone where the goalie from the opposing team is for 2 out 3 periods. Most of the people in this section seem to be regulars. There are lots of regular chants going on, and it adds to a fun evening!
The games usually last 2 to 2 ½ hours, and are lots of fun. The intermission entertainment is a little lacking, but being on ice has it’s limitations as well. It’s a great value for the money!
As far as season tickets go, they have 8 game, 15 game, full season, and then other packages to choose from — you can also include parking!
If you haven’t been to an Aeros game, you should definitely check it out! Great fun, and a great value!

Aeros hockey is a pretty good value for the buck. The upper level of the Toyota Center is closed so it is lower level seating only and every seat is good for live hockey.
You can read the other reviews to get the details of intermission, chants, mascots, etc… I will say the cheerleaders are chunky. But as for today’s youth that is about par for the course. I will say they are that sexy chunky like the girls that work at Brick House Tavern.
Anyway I recommend catching a game then checking out Discovery Green before or after.

The only downside to a night at the Aeros is the amount of empty seats in the arena on game night, it makes me sad. It’s such a great team and a good night out — plenty of chanting, yelling abuse, singing and dancing, it’s definitely fun for all the family!
I recently moved to Houston and away from my home team back in Belfast N. Ireland and have adopted the Aeros as my away from home, home team (we even had our engagement pictures taken in our Aeros jerseys!). We go to a lot of games, it’s a great night out, the hockey is good quality and the team always support local schools, groups and the armed forces.
Definitely should be on your to-​do list while you’re in Houston!

I have been to literally hundreds of Aeros games. I went to Aeros games when the team was here in the 1970’s. I began going to their games once again in the 1990’s when they returned to Houston. I’ve seen them play in both the Summit (Compaq Center) and the Toyota Center. Because the Aeros are a farm team for the Minnesota Wild, the roster of guys is constantly changing. It definitely keeps you on your toes as to who is playing!
The venue is great! Ice Hockey is always moving, so there isn’t a lot of down time. If you like fights and rough play, you are in luck! There are 3 periods of 20 minutes each and two intermissions. The intermissions are full of fun and games as well! The music is always great and keeps the crowd moving and excited!
You can find lots of discount tickets. They also have special nights where you can bring certain groups, bring your dog, watch swimsuit competitions, etc…
If you haven’t been, go! Check out your local hockey team!

Tonight’s game was super fun as always. I love the players, the back of the house staff, the cheerleaders, even the giant man-​sized dog, Chilly. I love to chuck-​a-​puck for charity and mostly I love to watch a good boxing match with my ice skating.
Super cheap and fun entertainment for the whole family. Unless you are opposed to attractive Yugoslavians skating around and randomly knocking someone in the head.

I love the Aeros. When I moved to Houston I had heard they had a minor league hockey team but didn’t think it would be that interesting. I do like hockey but it ranks below baseball and football. Anyway I got free tickets to last thursdays game against the Iowa Chops and had a blast.
Not a huge fan base, but what you get are real fans, which is great to see. Because there aren’t too many people you can move around and no one cares where you sit really. See a few empty seats closer to the rink, go ahead and sit in them and enjoy the show.
Food prices are a little high, it is at the Toyota Center, so you have those prices which are set for the Rockets but for a minor league team they should give you like a buck or two off.
The actual play isn’t the greatest but its still fun to watch. Hockey is great to watch live regardless. With the season almost over I’m thinking of getting season tickets or a game pack for next season.
Bottom line, if you like sports, go go GO!

Yup, that’s a little chant I learned at last night’s Houston Aeros game.
My buddy Sam C (no reviews yet! Get on him!) had a handful of tickets from a client and called me on a whim. I desperately needed to take a break from a super long day, so I was in. And I’m soooo glad I went. I’ve always wanted to make an Aeros game. I used to follow the Red Wings in high school (but «following» is as far as my hockey knowledge goes), and my college roommate was one of their dancers, so I’ve had plenty of opportunities to go.
Here’s what the night entailed:
— Easy parking
— Seats with a great view (read: the place had no more than 300 people, so we finagled our way to better seats right by the rink and all the action.
— By «action,» I mean «FIGHT!» Who doesn’t enjoy watching a little beatdown. No big brawl at this game, but the gloves did come off.
— Music, posters, little kids having a grand ol’ time (and myself) dancing to «Who Let The Dogs Out?!» I’ve *always* wanted to get on the kiss cam, and thought I’d have my shining moment here (with not much of a crowd), but I didn’t make the cut. Next time, my friends.
— The fans. Holy shit. The fans. Screaming, banging on glass – and that was just the women. Not too far away from us was a woman wearing a velvet red suit, duck slippers, Mardi Gras beads and a Mexican wrestling mask. She had an entire bag full of toys, props and dolls that she would whip out and dance with, chant and cheer. And when the Aeros scored, she got in the middle of the aisle, held out a big t-​shirt with a kitty cat and waved around a stuffed alligator eating a pig. I have NO idea what all that symbolism was about … but I’m interested. And did I mention she was hanging solo?
Houston Aeros, your boyish good looks, foreign last names and ass beating skills completely won my heart. I’m now a fan.

Hockey in Houston ROCKS!!! Where else can you go and yell at someone and tell them that they SUCK and everyone around you cheers you on? If you have pent up aggression… this is the best place to take it out at. The crowd is so high energy that you can’t help but to start yelling with them. I hear little kids telling the opposing team players that they suck. I just have to remember when I go to a baseball or football game… this is not acceptable.
I must admit I don’t attend as much hockey games as I did in the past… and I really miss it. My hockey buddy moved to Louisiana and it is hard to find people that LOVE hockey as much as I do. But my search will continue till I find the right person. =)
I started going to hockey games when I was 5 years old. My Aunt and Uncle were season ticket holders… and I was lucky enough to attend with them from time to time. Anyway, there was a short period of time that we lost the Aeros… but as soon as they came back I was an instant fan again. It is true that I am a native Texan… but I think hockey somehow seeped into my blood.
When I go to the game I sit in the club level… actually section 107 row 3 right behind the visitors penalty box. They can hear you the best there when you tell them that they «fight like a bitch!» And I have also been known to visit the bar a time or five. I usually order a double Bloody Mary or as I affectionately call it «a drink and a snack». There is a certain bartender there that KNOWS how to make a Bloody Mary… and she fills it with olives… Just the way I like them. The drinks are by no means cheap… but it is the Toyota Center after all… and I think that’s to be expected.
So… HOCKEY ANYONE?
