My husband and I went to Jimmy Wok today for a late lunch after leaving an appointment at the Medical Center. Maybe it was the time of day(2:45) but this was the worst lunch in recent memory. Order was wrong(fried rice instead of steamed). It wasn’t «spicy» as indicated on the menu. Not very hot. Soggy vegetables. The lunch special doesn’t come with soup or egg rolls. Entirely unappetizing. If we hadn’t have been so hungry we wouldn’t have eaten it. To their credit as we were leaving some apparent regulars came in and greeted the staff by name. I guess what can you expect for $ 6.25 per meal(it came to $ 16.80 for 2 with iced tea). I’m sure they like the place. But my suggestion is RUN don’t Wok.

I work in the area. The VN9 Phở soup is really good. Egg rolls are really good. Elijah, the delivery man is usually the same gentleman. Elijah is extremely nice and ALMOST makes you forget the bad experiences you may encounter with wait times. The worst thing about this place is they often want to take forever to deliver your food. The owner will ask if they can deliver at 1 – 1:30pm when I’m calling them at 11am when they open to place my order. It gives me the impression he’s holding orders to deliver all at once for a 6 minute drive. I’ve also had a time where they charged my card and delivered my food like 3 – 4 hours later. When I called to complain or ask questions, they would take the phone off and place it down on the counter where you can hear them working in the background. My advice is to pay cash. If they can’t deliver by a certain time, I tell them not to bother and order else where.

Really enjoyed the Vietnamese cold spring rolls very refreshing n light. Tried my friends egg Foo Yun and it was very good. Basically your average Chinese spot. I would definitely return.

Underrated Chinese cuisine restaurant. Me and my fam were the only ones to dine that night. Food came ou fairly quickly, like a bit over 5 min, I was surprised Got 3 dishes — all were fairly large portions enough to feed 4 people Sichuan Chicken — could be spicer Beef with bean sprout — very tasty, looked like that there were more bean sprout that the beef, skimped out a bit i think vegetable fried rice — a lot, generic fried rice won ton soup — appetizer, had cilantro in it, I think it is because it is vietnamese fusion. Still pretty good. As people have said, the host is usually just watching TV or on his phone, but just give a holler and he will serve you. Other than that, come here for the food not service

Friendly staff, lunch special served with entrée, fried rice, and 2 small appetizers for around $ 7.50. Not bad for takeout Asian food.

Yuk. Bland and not fresh. Would have thought some fresh veggies and spice would have been nice. Taste was blah. Not recommended.

I love this place. Best Chinese takeout in the Medical Center. The lady at the front can be a bit cantankerous but that is what makes her adorable. Lol

Avoid this place! I got a simple to go order a Diner Combo… Sweet and sour Chicken upgrade to pork fried rice($ 3 more) no vegetables in the fried rice.(If I eat onions or garlic my medicine makes me sick.) I get home open my carton lots of huge onions! So I call the lady tell her about her mistake! She tells me onions are not a vegetable! That is what I ordered. Long story short after a 10 min fight she agreed to replace my fried rice! I waited 30 min nothing was delivered! Called back told me she tried to deliver I was not home! Avoid this place like the plague!

I love this place. I know what and what not to expect. It’s been around for a minute. They aren’t really people persons and Yes the waiter is ignoring you bc his favorite tv show is on but I didn’t come to make friends… just hand over the food please. Always hot and quick and accurate and yummy. Not the best looking but I think General tso is in the kitchen himself.

Everyday for almost a month, month and half, I(and several co-workers) have placed a delivery, call-in order from this establishment, literally, almost every day. The female who answers the phone is UNBELIEVABLY, EXTREMELY, ASTONISHINGLYRUDE, RUDE, RUDE, RUDE!!! I call in with the entrée number, debit/credit card ready, and with a quiet background. However, she is still very rude. Today was the final straw. Typically, we spend at least $ 25+ on the order, but today our order was $ 15.65(before tax)(free delivery at $ 15.00). She tells me, «You need one more dollar.» and I repeat the total(before tax she had previously given to me) back to her and she became very short. She put me on hold, she over-talked me upon returning, asked me if I want the food or not, asked me to call back in 15 minutes(without getting my address or telephone number so the food can be in line for delivery), and telling me I won’t get my food until 2:30PM. –_– I asked to speak to the manager, she states she is the manager. FYI: I know she is not the manager because I previously had to speak to him about an incorrect order. After I told her that information she tells me, «I’m his wife. He is my husband.» I told her, «I want to speak to him, the manager.» She then states, «He isn’t here.» The only reason I gave this rating a 2-star is because the L34(general tso chicken) w/steamed rice, an eggroll(the eggrolls are huge and amazing) instead of the wonton and chicken is delicious! The steamed dumplings are good too! But the female on the phone was so rotten today, the entire office agreed to never order from there again. So it is. The food is good, but it can’t compensate for how rude, rude, rude, disgustingly rude the female is who answers the phone!!!

I work at the Med Center and have been to Jimmy Wok many times over the last year. Sometimes I go there daily. I have had many of their dishes, but I usually get the lunch/dinner combo to go. I almost always get their egg drop soup, which I really, really like. I sometimes get their egg rolls as well, which for the price, are a bargain. The first time I had one, I expected a puny, normal sized egg roll and was pleasantly surprised by the size. Depending on how much you like to eat, 2 or 3 of them can fill you up. They’re a bit heavy on the cabbage but still pretty good. The seafood soup is another of my favorites and their phở is acceptable. For combos, the Hunan beef is probably my favorite, but most are good. Lately, I’ve been eating Mongolian chicken. Their food seems to be consistently made and prepared fresh. I typically come in the evening and my to go order takes on average only 7 minutes to be ready. On the whole, for a cheap, Chinese place, I am happy with them. The one complaint I have is the older lady that always works at the counter. She is not rude, but she is not particularly friendly, either. She is rather brisk and seems a bit sassy. I asked her one time when I was particularly thirsty, if she wouldn’t mind bringing me a cup of water. She looked at me and said, «25 cent!» I was appalled. I know for a small business, every purchase counts and I know the cups cost money, but… come on. Is that any way to treat a loyal customer that has spent hundreds of dollars at your restaurant? It made me so mad I didn’t go there again all summer. I’ve been going there lately, but once I finish my qualifying exam, I will probably only be an occasional customer at best. I’ll just go to Happy All down the street. Their combos aren’t as good, but the staff are much nicer and genuinely seem to appreciate your business(and they do give you a puny egg roll for free with your order!). If it weren’t for the 25 cent water, this place would probably get 4 stars.

Popped into Jimmy Wok after getting a manicure nextdoor at Secret Escape Nail Salon. I needed something quick to grab and run back to work. I ordered chicken and beef lomein and it was ready in about 5 minutes — About $ 8.00 which I can deal with! Place was pretty crowded and busy during the lunch hour — I’d definitely come back to try a lunch special, whcih seemed to include a ton of food for a good price. Got to work and really enjoyed my lomein. and everyone said how great it smelled! Only thing is they did add shrimp, which I don’t mind… I love shrimp. But I think you need to be REALLY careful when throwing shrimp into people’s food since many have seafood allergies. But since it was just me and I’ll take all the meat I can get, they’re off the hook! Definitely a place to go if you need a quick, cheap, and satisfying Chinese meal. A little on the greasy side, but it would fix a hangover real quick.

One of the better Greasy Chinese food places in the med center. You usually feel full and disgusting afterwards(you already knew that anyway). Their hot and sour soup is one of the best I’ve had. Their lunch special comes with a meat, rice, fried wonton and fried chicken. Honestly it’s a lot to eat and I usually skip the wonton and chicken. But it’s pretty fairly priced. Service isn’t that great but who is really there for the service.

Must try their lunch combos! My co-workers and I called in our orders to go. We got there about 6 minutes after ordering and food was already waiting for us. Lunch options come with your choice of meat, fried rice, a fried chicken wing, and won ton chip. Quick and budget friendly option. Perfect for a day when you are extra hungry.

Not exactly wonderful, authentic Chinese food but it’s made for a hangover or just cheap study snacks. The dinner portions for the combos are pretty large, and you can choose to have soup or egg roll with the meal. They have messed up our order before, but they were quick to give us what we ordered when we went back.

I don’t know why I went back here(it’s twice now) beyond the reason that it’s nearby and always has seating. This place is a typical Americanized Asian food place, but more so than the average café. It’s cheap, easy, and has a nice dinner deal. However, the food leaves much to be desired. The first time I came I ordered beef with broccoli, the second time I ordered Szechuan style chicken. And honestly? Can’t really taste the difference between the two. I’m pretty sure they slather all their dishes with MSG and salt and oil and soy sauce so that it’s different ingredients(beef broccoli vs chicken peas) but tastes the same. Also, so much salt. Every bite is like drowning in salt; I’m sure I went through 2 large cups of water which is a feat for someone who drinks about a cup of water in a day. Again, I would recommend not coming here unless you like Americanized Asian food, are eating on a budget, or just likes to eat straight up salt.

Today I ordered with my office for lunch. I had the lunch orange chicken with fried rice and 1 chicken wing. I ordered an additional side of 1 egg roll. The portion was big for being a lunch size. I’ve had better orange chicken before. Just did not have an orange taste. The egg roll was big however not that, great. I don’t think I would recommend this place. According to my co-workers who met the delivery driver to get the food. He just took the cash and didn’t even asked«did we need change?» Which means he just assumed the rest was his tip regardless. NOT cool.

Just your run-of-the-mill neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Hubbs and I were driving by, looking for some Asian food that was close to home. We were originally going to go to Bellaire, but was excited to see that we had a Chinese restaurant minutes from our doorstep, so we swung inside on a Saturday evening around 7:00 pm. The place was empty. I figured on Saturdays, people eat later, and that this was also in the middle of a semi-residential neighborhood. We walked up to the counter where the owners were standing, and hubbs asked what was the most popular dish. The husband was a little confused, and the wife started snapping at us. Eventually, hubbs ordered the special fried rice and orange chicken. We ordered it to go, and only ended up waiting about 10 minutes. When we got home, we pried open the old skool Chinese food boxes and dug in. The rice is decent, but lacking flavor(I added a lot of salt. They actually gave us 6 packets of soy sauce for the two of us, so maybe that’s what we were supposed to add). The orange chicken was pretty good, too, but sacrilegious as it may be, I like Panda Express’ orange chicken better. Prices were a little on the more expensive side, but it was pretty decent for a spontaneous Chinese dinner. I don’t know if we’ll be coming back anytime soon. But it’s good to know it’s around in case our bad Chinese food cravings return.

Jimmy Wok is awesome. We go there pretty regularly, so the staff recognize us even when we place orders over the phone. Dad’s a fan of their shrimp fried rice, but I am a slave to their pork and vermicelli on the Vietnamese menu. I don’t like eggrolls generally, but the little ones chopped up on the pork and vermicelli dish are just perfect. My neighbor complains that they use too much MSG, so ask them not to use it if it bothers you. The ambiance is nothing to write home about, but it’s a nice little neighborhood restaurant with decent food and service that doesn’t cost a whole lot. What’s not to like?
