This was a pretty good place when you wanted a break for the food from the hospital. THEYARECLOSEDNOW. I wanted something different Christmas weekend 2015 and the phone number gave me options for other restaurants in the area.

I called in an order for pick up and was told 10 minutes. When I arrived the restaurant was empty except the chef who did not speak English. The person who had taken my call had left for a deliver and not placed my order. Had to wait until he returned, replaced order and had to wait for food to be ready. Was not offered a discount or even a proper apology. That being said, the food was pretty good.

I was in the mood for some fake Asian food near Rice campus when I stopped by wanfu’s for lunch. When I got there, there was a long line, which usually indicates that the restaurant is good. Sadly, things went south from there. The restaurant was pretty small, and most people seem to order food to go. It was also pretty drab in interior design and didn’t feel especially clean. In terms of food, I got the general chicken and sesame chicken with fried rice(I was REALLY craving chicken). Both chickens were pretty bland even with their sauces. Also, I don’t know exactly what it was, but there was something off about the fried rice. Even compared to other fake Asian places, this fried rice seemed to have a strange taste. Definitely not worth eating here. In the end the most redeeming quality at wanfu is the large portion sizes for a cheap price. Other than that, unless I am desperate for some fake Asian food and have exhausted my options, I don’t think I would be returning. Service 2⁄5 Food 1⁄5 Ambience 1⁄5

Cheap but greasy and does not resemble Chinese food. New visitors be warned: they yell at you if you order from the menu on the wall rather than the unlabeled entrees. Choose the grill next door.

I don’t feel like pushing through the hustle and bustle of the Pavilion so I decided to give this establishment a try. I can’t with intentions of getting crab rangoons and a salad from Murphy’s but I saw their $ 5.50 lunch special and decided to try it out. I should’ve stuck with my first mind. First the good: the portion is big, easily enough for two or to carry over to your dinner meal. The eggplant has potential. So much so that I’m wondering how to improve this recipe in my own kitchen. And you are allowed to get your own condiments which is rare at Americanized Chinese food establishments. Also the employees were decent, no thank you’s but also no attitudes. Answered questions pretty straight forward so I have no complaints on them. The bad: General Tso… This is the staple of all American Chinese food so in theory it should be absolutely delicious. Guess again. This has no flavor. It’s chicken chunks in a sweet sauce with the tiniest pieces of jalapeño. The chicken was cooked so inconsistently. One piece is ok, the next is tough as leather, the next has an 1⁄8th inch of breading on it! The eggplant although it has potential it’s not very good. I thought it might be baked or grilled but it tastes like it was dipped in grease. The noodles, although not bad leave much to be desired for. Only reason I got the noodles is because of the horrible rice reviews. You get no egg roll or cup of soup with your lunch. These usually accompany your meal in my experiences with Chinese fast food. The ugly: I’m stuck eating bell peppers I picked out of the eggplants with noodles doused in the handful of duck sauce packets I took. I tried to finish the chicken but I couldn’t do it. I won’t be back for a meal. I’ll try my crab rangoons tomorrow and perhaps an egg roll. But definitely won’t be eating anymore entrees.

Sadly, I have to pick a star… otherwise, I would not rate at all as the customer service is a JOKE! I ordered the beef and broccoli and the meat was chewy, sticky and honestly, not sure if it was BEEF!!! I called immediately(as I did NOT eat it) and asked to speak to the manager(occurred March 31). I spoke with someone who answered phone… named, Jaime and she said the manager, Eric, was not in and would give me a call back. I called again on Friday to follow-up and AGAIN, was told Eric, the manager, was not in and the only one who could«help» me. Just called again, April 8th, and again, Eric not in. As I explained to Jaime, no need in having him call me back… I will NEVER order from here again(and hung up)!! Very frustrating to not get assistance and to top it off… I lost money on a meal I did not eat! Oh well… there are other options for future ordering. Their loss as my office orders take-out routinely. I would suggest if you order something from this place(try it before you leave) and order chicken or shrimp, this way you will KNOW what you are eating!

The employee was friendly and helpful. Portion was easily enough for two people and was served up quickly. Orange chicken and fried rice were below average, though. Wouldn’t order it again.

If I could give this place half a star I would. This is the worst fast food Chinese that I have ever had. I should have checked Unilocal and not trusted the GrubHub reviews. Wow. The rice has no flavor, the General Tso’s Chicken is like literally massive chunks of chicken that were fried, tossed in some sweet yet flavorless sauce, and then left to wither away under some heat lamp. All in all, this restaurant should not exist. DONOTEATTHERE. DONOTORDERFROMTHERE. Do not allow your taste buds to be so wrongfully violated. Save your buds, eat at some other gross yet better quality Chinese Fast Food place!

So the quality dropped again. I don’t understand why they messed with a good thing. Not to mention, the staff has a terrible turnover rate which craps all over the service. On top of that, one of the guys in their management yelled at a coworker. Now my entire office is boycotting them.

Horrid. It took 2 hours for delivery. After several calls the food arrived cold. The food is sub par. Not even one star. Needless to say we will not be wasting our money here.

Uhhh 2 mins in and this place is the definition of sketch Chinese food. The last time I came to wan fu was my freshman year in college. I can already tell why I never came back. $ 9.20 for sweet and sour chicken with a fountain drink. Already more expensive than panda. I filled my cup with sprite only to find brown particulate in my cup. Was it the cup or the fountain drink cup. I’m not sure I’m also not sure if I want to drink out of this cup. I was going to switch to coke but then I was afraid the brown particulate might blend in. Food just came out here goes: Fried rice was plain. Only one scoop. Lacks character, originality, flavor, etc Chicken was standard frozen. Egg roll was frozen. I can see why after 5 years I didn’t come to this place. I guess this review will be mostly for myself so that when I think about coming back and read Unilocal reviews this one will jog my memory.

YUCK! Food is extremely greasy and tastes greasy. i ordered shrimp and broccoli and there was this weird coating on the shrimp(it kind of looked like old film of breading on it). on top of that, it was salty. they say to never judge a book by its cover. Well, i don’t think that rule applies to this place. there’s cardboard covering the view of the kitchen and it makes me wonder if they’re trying to cover up their filth and/or any creepy crawlers(roaches, gnats, rodent droppings, etc). i wasn’t expecting anything fancy but to have a dingy looking restaurant on top of bad food? i’ should’ve just trusted my gut and turned away. Now i just hope my gut won’t get sick.

I HATEDTHESERVICETHAT I GOTFROMTHISPLACE!!! I ordered a dish that I am familiar with and have eaten at various locations. When the dish was delivered to my house it was not anything like the true nature of the dish. And the taste was not similar and nasty(to me). When I tried to call to get a replacement dish I encountered the MOSTHORRIBLESERVICEEVER!!! I wanted a refund and the cashier told me that the manager was not available and that she could do nothing, until she talked with him. I called back and she was so worthless in the process of providing a resolution that I had to request she contact the manager by phone. I called back again and she told me he didn’t answer. Once I called back again when she spoke with him she still didn’t relay any of my concerns or requests to the manager. In the process I called back only to reach a voicemail SEVERAL(6+) TIMES reaching the voicemail. I know that she was intentionally avoiding my calls. She told that the manager said she could not send the driver back again and I would have to wait indefinitely to receive the refund. I wanted a replacement dish – which she failed to communicate to the manager. I even tipped the driver. I wish I could take my tip back. This process has spanned over the course of over an hour and I still have a nasty dish in front of me and a charge of 10 dollars on my card. I WOULDNEVEREVERRECOMMENDANYONEEATHEREAGAIN!

Wan fu is known for its Americanized Chinese food but few people know about the REAL Chinese food menu. This new menu is a recent development as a result of management change within the restaurant. My favorite dishes on the Chinese menu are the mapo tofu, smoking duck, green leeks with Chinese bacon, and pork shreds with dried tofu. The one I definitely recommend is the smoking duck. In order to make this dish, the chef had to smoke, steam and fry the duck. You can taste the difference due to the amount of work involved in making this dish. It’s perfectly marinated and the skin is just the right amount of «crispyness.» I have also tried the Sesame Chicken, Mandarin Orange Chicken and Mongolian Beef dish. All of those dishes are also pretty good for Americanized Chinese food. Wan fu’s proximity to Rice University and the Med Center makes it convenient for people in the area who don’t want to drive all the way out to Chinatown(on Bellaire) to get real Chinese food. The staff is friendly and the food is pretty good. The lunch specials are about $ 5 and the dinner meals are about $ 9. The price is reasonable considering how much food you get.

I returned, got the $ 5 lunch special(different dish)… and well, my comments stand. The«foul smell» was gone… and it looked a little cleaner(I didn’t stick around to eat). This is functional, fill-the-belly food. The portions are large and it’s hard to imagine anyone feeling hungry after such a meal. If it wasn’t so cheap, I’d still have to give it two stars. Meh — you might love it. In that area, there are few choices. I’ve visited twice. My next visit will be FAR in the future… but it’s still on the $ 5 table.

For the price and the location, this place is a fairly good bang for your buck. The fake Chinese food is fairly standard and it’s not the best but definitely not the worst of its kind. My girlfriend really likes the General Tso’s chicken and I’m a fairly big fan of their combination noodles. If you get one of the specials, you will receive a large portion of meat and vegetables along with rice, and either a fried wonton or egg roll. Be forewarned — the fried goodness is tasty but oh man it is very oily! The service is very good and attentive and this place is open fairly late on weekdays. If you’re looking for a place for an evening meal in the med center, this is the place to go.

This joint is definitely greasy, but after a long morning at work, nothing in your stomach, and your nerves on end, who really minds? Unfortunately, Wan Fu really is the closest thing to Chinese food you will find in the Med Center area. There’s your warning, so tread carefully. We normally order for deliver, and they are super fast when they deliver. The dude even comes all the way to your area in the hospitals to deliver your order! Also, they aren’t shiesty when it comes to napkins, utensils, and condiments. I think I have enough soy sauce packages to fill two bottles! (Well to be honest, my coworkers and I haven’t ordered here in a little while. Last time we did, my cheap-ass coworkers stiffed the delivery guy on his tip and we have been fearing retaliation ever since!)
