This place is connected to where I work and I was between meetings so I thought I’d grab a quick bite. It’s a typical bbq eatery with lots of meats and sides… problem was, they were out of a lot of stuff, much of which I wanted. How are you primarily a lunch destination, in the medical center, catering to lunch-goers and you run out of half your meats and sides? So I settled on a chopped beef sandwich. It was fine. Wasn’t bad. But I wouldn’t recommend coming here unless you really wanted bbq and had no where else to go.

There are not many options for BBQ in the medical center so if you need to scratch that itch, this is it. The customer service was nice; we told the guy it was our first time and he handed us a piece of brisket to try. I went with the chopped beef baked potato which was large and filling. Just under $ 10, so not to shabby. I probably won’t come here often, but it was satisfying and worth another go.

Vegetarians can get mac ‘n cheese to satisfy a craving, but not much else. The mac ‘n cheese is alright; nothing worth seeking out unless you’re in the medical center and needing an emergency snack.

Meh is exactly right! It’s great that they bring a little variety in the Medical Center, but what I have noticed from my experience working in the area is that the restaurants set a very low bar for themselves. Very low, because they have a captive audience. Most people are working like crazy with not much time to break away for food or visiting family in the hospitals and don’t want to go far. Add that to the real lack of options here and you’ve got some pretty crappy places. They don’t have to try hard because the people will come anyway. The service was agony. It took them ten minutes scrounging around to tell us, they only two people in line, that they were out of potatoes. Well great we walked all the way over here for the BBQ potatoes and there’s not time to go somewhere else. Maybe there would have been if they had told us that when we ordered them. And still another 10 minutes for them to make 2BBQ sandwiches that we got instead. They make them on the line in front of you, so we were standing there just staring at the slowest people ever make a sandwich, which is just meat and bread. I still don’t understand it. Like how they hell do they manage to stretch out their tasks so long. uh just maddening. It was fairly cold outside, yet a smoky swelter inside. There is definitely not enough ventilation for that type of place in that building. They actually get two stars since the food is adequate for the area. Now if this place was located anywhere else in Houston with this staff, I would never even consider coming here again. But I have a face that I am apart of that captive audience and may have to suffer through it again because of the lack of options.

Walked in at 7:30pm and ordered burgers. The guy behind the counter looked at the meat under the heat lamps and then back at us. I’m pretty sure he was disappointed that we ordered food he had to cook instead of serving us the meat that had been sitting under the heat lamp all day. The place was pretty dirty and we thought about leaving, but felt bad since the guy already started cooking our food. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I gave one start because the burger was ok, but I already feel a little sick. Skip this place. There’s a sandwich shop next door and looks way cleaner.

Methinks not if you are waiting on delivery. Orders for 8 placed at 1030AM, to be delivered at 1130AM, we are only blocks from the location. At 1150AM, they said they would arrive in 15 minutes, no show! At 1220PM, they said 7 minutes, no show! So we canceled — they knew it was to a hospital in the TMC and healthcare personnel have a finite time frame to eat. They need to coordinate their deliveries better or just not offer the service. No more orders from our group!

Loaded BBQ potato was alright. Their BBQ sauce needs work. The meat was relatively smokey, but nothing to write home about. Really had no other choice, needed to eat in the area. Would try another bbq spot if you are looking for the good stuff.

It’s fast food BBQ, and it gets the job done. However, my ribs were pretty hard, which means that they’ve probably been sitting under their food lamps for a while, collecting bacteria as we speak. It will get you full, but I can’t promise you’ll feel too healthy afterwards.

Brisket was too fatty and greasy. Won’t be going back.

Very bad quality food. The most important item in our order, the beef brisket, was mostly fat and gristle – nearly inedible. Everything else we ordered was either average or worse than average. Oh well; live and learn. They should soon be out of business.

I was in town for a medical appointment, after the appointment the wife and I were kind of hungry and decided to stop here. What a wonderful surprise when we stopped. The smell of this place when you walk in the doors was awesome, the service was friendly, and the food was delicious. We both had a loaded baked potato with meat and homemade BBQ sauce on top. It was so good that we both ate the whole thing, even though the baked potatoes were the biggest I’ve ever seen. I will definitely stop here next time I am in town. We highly recommend it.

I visited this spot during my lunch break while working in the med center. The bbq was suprisingly good, and I was happy to not have to eat cafeteria food. If your in the med center and want to stop and grab a bite try this spot out.

When there’s no competition, there’s no need to be great. In the vast desolation that it dining in the Medical Center, the new bbq joint enjoys brisk business. However, once you get past the novelty of something different from the usual med center fare, the food is a solid«meh.» I love the mashed baked potatoes, and everything else is solidly okay(except the cobbler — way under cooked) for LUNCH. Do not make the mistake I did of stopping to get something to go for dinner. Everything has been sitting out since lunch and(if eatable) is very dry.

What was the medical center missing? Well besides parking… That’s right BBQ! Well a new BBQ joint has moved into the spot that used to be sandellas. This location is cursed because it just doesn’t get enough random exposure being on the backside of the street traffic. Well BBQ has a different drawing power due to it’s smokey goodness. You can smell their scent from across the street and follow it back to the doors. I was able to try these guys out the first week they were open. They are still working out the kinks and making things more streamline. But for now it’s solid barbecue. The day I came in they had ran out of ribs so I got the 2 meat combo with chicken and brisket. The brisket was solid moist and flavorful, a bit on the fatty side. The chicken was very lean. As far as sides had loaded baked potato scallops and fried okra. The potatos were delicious. I had some of their sauce on the side it’s a thicker sauce and served warm. Good compliment to their BBQ. I’ll be back to taste their ribs, glad to have more options around here.
