Krispy Kreme

OH gee golly, what a hype this place was when it first opened. Literally, if you get a picture with a box of krispy kreme, it was the equivalent of getting a picture with the president. Finally today, after 8 million years, I FINALLY tried this place.
«MEH» is all I can say. Maybe I’m just too used to Shipley’s, but aside from the clear glaze, donuts taste the same to me.
But the little donut factory they have behind a glass presentation is very intriguing, it makes the customer’s mouth water before they even look at the menu!

I came in here to grab a couple of donuts for breakfast. They had us waiting over 20 minutes as all five employees huddled by the donut machine, which wasn’t working properly. The line grew to over 20 people. No one bothered to acknowledge the customers or anything. About a half dozen people walked out the door. They continued ignoring customers.
Once the machine got working, they went into overdrive filling orders and comping individual donuts for those waiting as an apology. Would have been a bit better had they acknowledged us sooner.

This place is so slow drive thru is he worst! The people that work here are not the brightest!!!

Nothing is quite like a hot, fresh glazed donut from Shipley’s, but I have to say that I am partial to Krispy Kreme donuts, too! Came here recently and absolutely loved the drive thru option.
Got 3 donuts and the total after tax was $ 3.17– ridiculously cheap, in my opinion, for 1 filled donut, 1 plain glazed, and 1 cake. I absolutely love the lemon filled donuts here and the plain glazed. Yum! They were delicious on the spot, but perhaps what I love the most about Krispy Kreme is the fact that you can leave your donuts on the counter for up to 2 days and they will still taste delicious.
I’m so glad Krispy Kreme is back in Houston! I will definitely be revisiting this location again soon!

Krispy Kreme is my favorite for donuts! When they came back to Houston I was one of the hundreds sitting in the drive thru waiting to grab a few dozen. Little did I know I’d be somewhat disappointed. The service is somewhat slow here (still waiting 8+ minutes to get donuts at times). When the hot sign is on they give you what seems to be COLD donuts. Almost like they were frozen. Everyone seems like they’re still learning or don’t really care. I’ll drive further to the other location off of FM 1960 for HOT donuts and much quicker service!

Wait for the HOT light! When the HOT light is on, their super fresh melt in your mouth plain glazed donuts are constantly rolling off of the line. The other donuts are good too, but just not as good as this warm melty goodness. Outside of getting them when they’re hot and fresh… they’re just ok at that point. They’re still a little more sweet than my favorite go-​to donut place (Billy’s) but still great nonetheless.

So I finally had chance to stop by Krispy Kreme and picked up a dozen of original glazed donuts. I’ve heard of stories that you gotta eat their donut when it just get out of oven, and the taste would be so good that you’ll forget your last name.
So there was me, got my dozen of donuts from drive through, left hand on the wheel and right hand opening the box to grab the fresh angelic donut from heaven. These donuts looked pretty and polished in the box. I had my first bite, I can almost hear the crisp sound of my teeth breaking into the sugar coating. Then I chew and chew and wait for the miracle to happen to me.
I think donut God was busy somewhere else that day so I didn’t really experience anything different from eating my donut. In contrary, my donut was actually extremely sweet that made me feel sick. I put down the donut and wondering if it’s customer who want that much sugar in their food, or corporation want their customer to take in s. t ton of sugar and also make customer believe that’s what they want. But who am I to think about such complex question?
I decided to give another bite, the donut tasted the same as last bite, I was overwhelmed by the sugar explosion that I have to take a sip of black coffee I ordered from Krispy Kreme. Oh mine, that black coffee, that magical morning holy grail tasted exactly opposite to it donut product: it was sour, watery and burned. I guess yin and yang do make perfect combination.
Overall, it must be me who cannot appreciate the sugar loaded fry dough and the black water from Kripy Kreme. Will not go back again.

Went there to get glazed Kreme filled donut only to find less than a teaspoon for the filling.
I have been there 4 times and they have messed my order up half the time… They just don’t really care. Make sure to check your order!

I went to grad school in Winston-​Salem, North Carolina, the birthplace of Krispy Kreme. Living in the area for four years exposed me to the heavenly goodness that is Krispy Kreme. There is even a 5k in town where you run half the 5k, eat a dozen Krispy Kremes, and then run the remaining half. You’re considered a winner if you don’t throw up lol.
When I found out that Houston would be bringing back Krispy Kreme, I was very excite. If you’ve never had a hot Krispy Kreme glazed donut, that should be a life goal. When that hot sign lights up, I feel like a crackhead looking for that next hit. It’s that addicting. Unfortunately, the employees are a little ratchet. While I was silently enjoying my hot donut and nerding out by getting some work done on my computer, these dudes were being super loud and yelling each other. They did hook me up with a free donut though so I appreciated that. When that hot sign lights up, you know what to do!

I’ve you’ve never had Krispy Kreme donuts and you really like donuts, you’re sorely missing out guys! I found out about this creamy goodness when I lived in Alabama years & years ago. They’ve pretty much got the market cornered over there as they usually have a nice display of their fresh goodness right by the corner on pretty much any convenience store you stop by at on the road. Needless to say, I got pretty much fed up with these donuts in the year that I lived there, so I stopped eating them for a couple of years.
I’m definitely glad I stopped eating these because when I found out they were coming back to the Houston area, I was just ecstatic about it and could not wait to get my grubby hands on one or two or ten of them! haha

Not much to review. Stopped by to grab a hot and ready melt in your mouth donut, which did not disappoint!!! Are they friendly NOPE! Lol! Didn’t really like how the lady told my nephew he can «have» a cup of donut holes (that were nicely arranged on the counter) and then ummmmmm yes I paid for ‘em in the end! Do not give kids the go ahead without guardian approval, M’kay!

Amazing hot, fresh donuts. You can see the conveyor belt of them being made, which is really cool and also shows they are fresh. There can be a long line unless you are lucky. Some flavors sell out and you might have to wait for the next batch to be made. Interaction with staff is limited, kind of an in-​and-​out once you’ve actually placed your order.

I really hate that it has come to this, but Krispy Kreme no longer deserves 5 stars. My last three visits have all been the same. I don’t mind waiting in line. I actually expect it. The issue is the service. It seems like they can only deal with one customer at a time, meaning they wait until a customer has ordered and driven off with the order before taking another order. Each of the last three visits, I have waited 6+ minutes AFTER driving up to the speaker to be acknowledged. There is no greeting, just a very dry «can I take your order.» The cashiers lack enthusiasm, happiness, and customer service skills. This morning, I could not even hear what she was saying. After repeatedly informing her of this, she continued to speak in a very dry monotone. I got frustrated and just drove up to be greeted by… no one! I waited another 3 or so minutes before she came to the window and told me the total. There was no «hello» or «sorry about the wait» or anything, and my order was incorrect. She returned my card and walked away. That was it! If the mister says their customer service is horrible, it really is because he never complains about anything. At least the donuts were hot and delicious, as always :)

The drive thru employers are consistently rude, ghetto and trained to LIE to customers. I’ve come through the drive thru line more than once when the conveyor light was on, and specifically requested doughnuts off the conveyor. Every time, I was told, «This is as hot as it’s going to get, we just got them off the conveyor,» and each time it was a lie. I got off the car, went inside and exchanged the lukewarm doughnuts for actual hot-​off-​the-​conveyor ones.
If the light’s on, do NOT use drive-​thru bc you’ll be lied to, and when you try to get their attention, they’ll ignore you so you’re forced to go inside.
Two stars: one for the nice, honest employees inside and one for the doughnuts bc they’re KK.

Krispy Kreme is at the top of the chain for my list of donut places to go to.
I can’t express how good these glazed donuts are when they melt in your mouth. It has the right amount of sugar and the texture is so soft. They know what they’re doing with their machines. If only they could make them roll out faster. Good thing the crowd has died down by now so we don’t have to wait a crazy amount of time to receive our boxes of goodies.
I can tell you, I will be able to inhale a whole dozen by myself if they were sitting in front of me at the table. Share this delicious fried dough with those your love ones. If you haven’t had the real Krispy Kreme donuts, stop in and experience it!

Been wanting to get Krispy Kreme again for the longest time, and decided why not treat myself on Valentine’s Day? In the evening around 6pm, there is no long line which is great! Customers can also see the production line of the glazed donuts as it rolls out.
I liked that they have some variety of donuts, but nothing trumps the original glazed donuts. It was so warm, soft, and all sorts of yumminess! I easily ate two with no regrets as I didn’t feel like the dough was heavy, and the glazed wasn’t too ridiculously sweet. Some glazed donuts at other places are so sweet that it makes my teeth hurt. I also got the chocolate iced custard filled donut too, but I still liked the glazed donut more.
In total, I got half a dozen of donuts today. I liked that the to-​go boxes are flat and the donuts are laid down flat instead of just pushed together in a box. It ensures the beauty (and taste!) of the donut is in tact even after reaching home!

I love their glazed donuts, especially when the «hot» light is on! It melts in your mouth! I tend to skip the other donut selections when I go here. FYI — you get a free donut when the «hot» sign is flashing!
It has been several months since they have their grand opening, but they are still very busy. I went on a Friday night and the lines still extend to the back of the store. On the bright side, I don’t have to wait on any lines outside in the cold. The drive thru lines are decent, they do not wrap around the block anymore.
They have alright customer service. I don’t expect much in that arena… I’m just here for the hot & fresh glazed donuts!

Three pronged review for a three star A-​Ok rating. I go at 6am when I get off the night shift and when the donuts are hot.
1) Donuts — super yum 5 star donuts. Get there when they are hot and they pull them right off the line for you. They are still good a day or two later so don’t hesitate to get a dozen. Even the donuts in the display case are delish!
The custard filled and maple ones are my favorite special ones. You can mix and match a dozen for about $ 10.
I don’t know what magic they do to make them so fluffy and light. The glaze really is the kicker. Lordy lordy!
2. Service — 2 star bad organizational slow. Besides the folks actually making the donuts in the back, they often have a gal at the drive thru, a gal at the register (who always seems angry to be there) and one who is actually putting the donuts in the box or bag for you to take with you.
If you get there and someone ahead of you has ordered 3 or 4 dozen for work… you wait until they fill that order and then go to the next person. I have walked in and had 4 or 5 people in front of me and waited 15+ minutes. That’s not cool at 6am when people are trying to get to work or trying to get home after a long night shift. So to whoever made this schedule of not having enough people to fill boxes/​orders at 6am, I wish you would fix this. Your donuts are good… but waiting that long because you haven’t got enough people (or the grouchy register gal can’t help) is annoying.
Be ready.
3. Getting in and out of the parking lot is a pain. Traffic on Westheimer sucks at 6am and there’s only one way you can turn and only one way to exit. Not really the franchises fault… but it should be noted.
I love these donuts. I really do. If they would get their customer service together it would be a better review.
They have coffee, donut holes and a deal where you can use their product for a fundraiser. Kinda cool

The hype is REAL! You can expect a line in the morning, at least for now. Drive through goes pretty quick. I ONLY come for their glazed donuts. Every time I drive by and see the red light is on, you know i’m there waiting in line for that fresh warm sweet donut. I swear I can eat a dozen of these by myself. To me, I think its better than Shipleys and Dunkin (sorry!)

Krispy Kreme, how inconsiderate can you be? My first visit was the day after Christmas. They ran out of donuts bags. So my 2 donuts were in a box that could fill half-​dozen.
When I wanted a cup of hot coffee. The line helper said OK; but the cashier said the thermal was broken, which meant hot coffee cold. Fine, give me a cup of cold coffee. Later I found out they charged me the price of an iced coffee with lots of ice cubes.
I couldn’t even bother to wait in line to voice my concern. I figure this is normal practice as many reviewers already expressed their disappointments.
Don’t think I’m not coming back. I will be back to breathe in this greasy sugary aroma while watching those donuts rolling on the conveyor belt.

This business has been all over the news since its grand opening, so we just had to go by and give it a try. Overall, I was pretty impressed with only a few minor issues along the way.
As is to be expected with such a popular place, the line both inside the store and in the drive-​thru were crazy long, but as we’d later taste in the donuts, is well worth the wait. Unfortunately, the place seems severely understaffed for the amount of customers passing through.
Inside, the restaurant is very clean and interesting. There is a huge glass window where you can watch the original glazed donuts being made fresh and ready to be boxed and bought. Today, it seems the staff were boxing a dozen donuts at a time and offering them to people in line to reduce their wait time. A young lady called, «Anyone need a dozen original glazed?» Several customers stepped up to grab the boxes. A manager-​in-​training named Aisha rushed in and scolded the young lady loudly saying, «No! You’re supposed to ask them if they are ONLY buying a dozen original glazed with nothing else! That’s the whole point!!! To reduce the wait time!» The young lady looked rather embarrassed, and I felt bad for her. Clearly, instructions had not been given in an understandable manner. They sorted through that issue and we stepped up to the Sony counter.
The donut counter presents a wide variety of gorgeously decorated and nicely presented donuts! It’s hard to make a decision! Aisha stepped up to the counter to take our order.
My elderly mother, who accompanied me, said, «I’ll have two of the glazed, and two of the crème-​filled.»
Aisha looked at her and asked, «Are you getting a dozen?»
I said, «No…»
Aisha then said, «Are you getting half a dozen?»
Again, I said, «No…» This time a little more irritated.
Then she started to ask another question, «Are you – «
Finally, my elderly mother stepped in, «I told you what we are getting!!!»
Aisha loudly scolded her saying, «Hey!!! I’m just trying to figure out what kind of box to put them in!!!» After repeating our order another two times, we finally saw them thrown at the cashier, Yamileth. We asked Yamilth who Aisha was, and she told us. She also told us that Aisha is a manager in training. I remarked, «She needs more training.» Yamileth apologized on behalf of Aisha’s behavior, and was very pleasant while checking us out. This incident is what cost this business a star.
From the very first bite, the donuts were delicious. They practically melt in your mouth, and it’s amazing. I will go back without hesitation, but someone should really talk to Aisha and make sure the guests are getting proper treatment. They may not need my business, but it won’t take long before that attitude wears off on other employees and other customers will eventually lose their patience, regardless of how good the donuts are.

I’m going to type all words that start with the –kah– sounds with a K because, in simple words, it’s krazy good! My boyfriend and I sat in the long karavan of kars on a rainy evening on the night they were offering BOGOfree when you buy a dozen. It was SO worth it. Best part was the fresh out of the oven sign was on all night… so that meant every order would melt in your mouth and bring you to an orgasmic land of diabeetus. They melt like fluffy klouds on a kold day and sunshine on a warm day.
Original glaze is all you need in my opinion. It’s wholesome and light.
Even if you think 2 dozen is too much, they last for days on end.
Just pop’em into the microwave for 7 seconds, no more no less.
Pour yourself a glass of milk… and become one with the donut (s).

***Coffee Review***
After navigating through the parking lot (a long drive-​thru line made things a little dicey) I finally made it to the counter to order an iced coffee. To clarify, before placing my order I asked if their iced coffee was served pre-​chilled over ice (versus just pouring hot coffee directly over ice) she said that it was so I proceeded to pay.
While filling my cup she discovered that the cold coffee was gone and then filled the cup up with hot coffee.
This is exactly what I didn’t want.
I ended up with lukewarm watered down coffee.
Am I mad that they ran out of cold coffee? –Nope
Am I mad that it took me 10 minutes to park, order and pay for a coffee that I didn’t even drink? –Nope!
Am I mad that there was a total lack of customer service and zero attempt was made to apologize for the crappy beverage?– Pretty much

Krispy Kreme has been open for awhile, but man, it’s barely slowed down! The drive-​thru line was long (but reasonable) when we visited late in the evening. Overall, it gets a big, fat «meh» from me. Sorry. I know a lot of people love the texture, but I do not like biting into air. I like a more substantial donut, so a fresh and hot Shipley’s donut still takes the cake. I will say that Krispy Kreme donuts are so light, you can easily down half a dozen. By yourself. Within a matter of minutes. Not that I have any personal experience doing so, or anything…
I was kind of impressed because they do maintain their fluffiness the next day, with the glaze still perfectly set.

It is a typical Krispy Kreme. You either like them or do not. Personally, I am only a fan of the original glazed and only when they are warmed. I tried a «double chocolate» this time in addition to the original. It is a plain donut with chocolate icing and filling. The chocolate filling is more like a rich fudge icing which was okay but no devil food donut.
I can’t detract any stars for the crowds. It isn’t their fault that Houstonians are lining up and going insane over a donut. I did not feel my wait was very long, but I parked and went inside. I was also only getting 2 donuts rather than the 2 – 3 dozen the families in front of me were purchasing. I had my order in hand and was out the door before the 3 families ahead of me (one of which was complaining about the calories and sugar while placing her order for 2 dz donuts).
So if you go inside, remember that these are just donuts, and realize they are not going to suddenly close? Then you will be in and out pretty quick with your precious.

Either you love Krispy Kreme donuts or you love Shipleys. There is a distinction between both, don’t get it twisted. I had had Krispys YEARS ago, but didn’t recall the flavor so I was excited to re-​introduce the donuts to my taste buds yet again.
Taste
As far as Krispy Kreme goes, the dough is a heavier consistency. One bite of the warm glazed donut melted in my mouth, but by the second and third bite, the affair was over for me. It was overly sweet and just felt heavy/​overpowering.
Customer Service
This place was mad packed on a December evening. Around 4pm, the drive thru had a 35 minute wait. Well we decided we might as well wait, eagerly hoping to try the original glazed. 35 minutes later, we arrived at the window to order. No more original glazed. The wait was in vain. I was upset they didn’t let people know ahead of time. We left with a chocolate glazed and one cream filled.
The hype didn’t meet my expectations. I just don’t get why people obsess.

My quality of life has improved since krispy kreme came back to houston. I mean how could you deny an original glazed hott and freshh off the belt?!
I grew up with Krispy Kreme as a child, I would take my report card to get free donuts for each A. It was an impeccable program on krispy kremes part!
I came in on a saturday, and was eating my donuts 20 minutes later. The line was just to the door, but not outside yet. The drive thru line was also not crazy had I had seen in the 1 month after opening. The staff was friendly, and seemed to be keeping up with the demand well. Im sure this wasnt the case when they first opened.
PROTIP: If you ONLY want a dozen or half dozen of original glaze, they will give you a box without waiting in the long line.

Long wait for a major disappointment. This KK location does not handle the crowds well.
We arrived at 2:40 on a Sunday afternoon and waited in a drive-​thru line for 50 minutes. After a half-​hour, I was tired of waiting and decided to walk over to the nearby Target as my wife waited for her glazed donut.
At 3:30, my wife returned with a container of donut holes. KK had run out of regular glazed, but didn’t tell anyone waiting in the ridiculously long line. The donut holes do not taste the same as a regular-​sized, hot-​glazed. They told my wife to come back at 5. Major fail.
At least I was able to get a Starbucks at Target during the wait.
Time to build more donut shops, Krispy Kreme!!!
UPDATE 12/​29/​2015: my wife tried the Highway 6 location last week and said she had a 15 minute wait, no issues.

I’m super glad that Krispy Kreme is back! My daughters and I made the drive to visit on the first weekend that they were open and I couldn’t have been anymore happier. It was rainy, cool and it took us 2 hours to get our donuts but it was so worth it to taste those melt in your mouth donuts again.

All hype, doughnuts without the dough, and as the rating provides 2 stars it really is a «Meh. I’ve experienced better.» and by better I mean from a Randalls/​Krogers.
Went late last night in support of the grand opening but boy the disappointment was there. Many inefficiencies in the supply chain here with ordering but I suspect that will wash out with time and experience. What was the let down was the size of these things. The doughnut holes I ordered were larger and fluffier than the anorexic cold doughnuts I was given at time of purchase. I will upload a photo later.
At the end of the day, I recommend if you want these now just take a road trip to ATX it’ll take the same amount of time and you wont have to deal with the crazies. The doughnuts will probably be the right shape and size as well.
