This spot is consistently very good. I’m in there a few times a week for lunch. The enchiladas are delicious. The tacos are well portioned and you’ll even like the rice and beans. They’ve recently added chicken tortilla soup to the menu and it’s so good you’ll want to eat it every day. The restaurant is clean and the décor is vibrant. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Moderno.

Typically come here after work sometimes with co-workers and this spot is quite fun! The drinks are good. The service(by the hostess and waitress) is A-1. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because sometimes the the cheese that they use can make me nauseated depending on what I order. But that’s my personal issue. So if you typically have good«cheese reflex» then this spot will be 5 stars for you! Check it out. You won’t be disappointed!

For me, Moderno started out pretty good. I quickly became a fan of their brisket tacos for breakfast or lunch. However, the second time I picked up a couple of breakfast tacos to go, only to get to work and the brisket taco was literally missing the brisket. They were very accommodating when I called and I was able to pick a taco up on the way home. Today I decided to try them again for lunch. I ordered a taco plate to go. I got to my office and noticed the brisket was too dry to eat. It was covered with all of the fixings so I didn’t notice until I bit into the taco. You can’t tell me that the person preparing the meal didn’t know the meat was dry and should not have been on anyone’s plate. I didn’t call today as I seem to think this is the nature of their business. Quality control is something that doesn’t take much time and should be done on every item coming across the counter.

two thumbs up. Amazing service, good food, and nice ambiance. Food took a little longer than it should have but it was worth the wait!

I eat here with my husband and son at least once, usually twice, a week. It’s a great local feel place with food that is much better than the larger Tex-Mex restaurants in Houston. Give me Moderno over El Tiempo, Pappasitos, Guadalajara, Lupes or Escalantes. And the margaritas are fantastic as well. And the biggest bonus for us — there is space for the kiddos to run and play by their back patio, while we relax on a Friday night with friends. Additionally, we just held our kid’s end of season soccer party there last night. Over 20+ kids and around 26 parents from 5 – 7:30pm. The kids had an absolute blast, everyone enjoyed their food, and while the food was understandably a little bit delayed, the staff bent over backwards to make sure everyone was satisfied and happy. So much so that our football team is now wanting their party there as well. But don’t think it’s only for kid’s parties — I would happily have a group of friends on a girl’s night, or a nice birthday dinner for my husband there. Bottom line — great food, great drinks, great staff and a great space. (To be honest, part of me does not want to write this review, because I don’t want it to get crazy crowded, but they deserve the accolades.)

I LOVED my visit at Moderno’s. Renee was a sweetheart and recommended great meals for my boyfriend and I. I had the spinach mushroom enchiladas and I loved there black refried beans, those can be a hit or miss but they were great lol. The blood orange and pomegranate margaritas were tasty and we got 3 desserts since they all sounded good we took one home with us. The tres leches cheesecake was surprisingly good to me, I didn’t know what to expect but it’s great. I’m a sucker for a tres leches cake too lol and the key lime pie wasn’t crazy tart which I like but my bf prefers it a bit tarter. Overall it was awesome and relaxed, will be visiting again very soon.

We went there on a whim, and had excellent food, decent margaritas, and really nice service. This is definitely somewhere we will be visiting again

Salsa is important, and this place has very good salsa. Great beans and rice. Amazing chicken enchiladas. The service here was awesome; drink and chip refills were prompt. Prices were reasonable and portions were generous. I absolutely love the interior design here! I’m so glad this is the closest restaurant to my house — I will definitely be going here often!

It is tough to find a really great salad in West Houston. I have now found it. Moderno has a truly incredible Ahi Tuna salad with jicama, with a light citrus glaze. Served with gluten free soy drizzle and breaded with sesame seeds, the tuna is accompanied by a bed of delicious greens. One of the best salads ever in West Houston. If you like tuna grilled to be more on the medium side, be sure to tell them, as they serve it on the rare side. YUMMY!!! Coupled with the modern décor and not-too-loud music, this place makes a great, casual dining for a date night. I’m so glad we found it, and I will definitely return for more!

I judge a Mexican restaurant by 2 things– Beef fajita tacos and their migas breakfast. I cannot speak for their Beef fajita tacos… yet. But the migas was so good that I will be back to try the dinner tacos. The migas was by far the best migas I’ve had since I moved to Houston 2 years ago and to top it off the queso was off the chain as well. Ate here a couple days ago and going back this morning. Yes… It’s that good

Moderno has gotten progressively worse in my recent visits. Most of this is related to poor service. The food is still pretty much the same. Tonight we sat down and waited for about 10 minutes. No waiter, no drinks, nothing. Finally I got up went to the bar and asked them to send a waiter to our table. Then I watched 2 waiters argue over who was supposed to take our table. The good news is we were fed eventually. I’ll give it another try.

You know what? I’ve only been here once but I think this place is going to work for me. Being just a couple of minutes from my job is a major +…and to find out the food is actually good is also great. I’m glad my friend told me about this place. When I go to a New Mexican place that I’m not sure about for some reason I test them by trying their nachos first. If you can’t prepare something as simple as nachos I don’t want to taste anything else. Well I’m here to report an A+ on the nachos. They were delicious, with just the right amount of fixings!!! I will be back to try other items on the menu. Maybe I will become a «regular»…

Frozen Blood orange maragarita shot the spot on a warm Friday after riding horses. Waitress may be hard of hearing or the place is really loud. The old filament light bulbs are cool.

I give them a solid 4+. Located in a little retail center, Moderno is easy to miss, but is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Let’s face it, there are tons of Tex-Mex restaurants in Houston. Most of them offer the same old standard Tex-Mex items and all taste pretty must the same. Moderno brakes the mold just a bit. For one thing they seem to emphasize tacos which to me is one of the worlds best street foods. Additionally, while Moderno offers your standard Tex-Mex items(so no drama there for the Tex-Mex fans), there are a few items that you may not find at all of the competition. We had the combination plate(I forget the name). Everything on it was just a bit better than at the last 10 Tex-Mex establishment I had been to. I also had the Alamabras; beef fajita meat with grilled onions, tomatoes, Spanish rice, charro beans, guacamole, and flour tortillas. It was all great, the beef had a great marinade so what’s not to like? With all the average Tex-Mex around I think that I have found my new local joint.

We finally popped into this place for dinner. I can’t tell you how many times on the way home we’ve driven right on by. Parking was effortless as there is a big lot. It’s in a typical strip center with nothing screaming for you to notice it. However the interior was very open and well planned. I loved the reclaimed wood look and the open bar with view into the kitchen. The wait staff was prompt and friendly they helped each other out which is nice. Teamwork = pleased attended to customers. As far as the food and drinks, it was OK. We weren’t blown away by anything, but certainly weren’t dissatisfied either. The blood orange margarita, while refreshing was a bit too sweet for me. It needed a bit more citrus for my margarita satisfaction. The guacamole tasted fresh and was enjoyable. We shared the combo fajitas and finished them all. I eat meat once in a blue moon, and the meat was done nicely. Certainly wasn’t sad I jumped off the veggie wagon for the night. We ordered some grilled fish tacos to go for my man and that was the one thing that got a thumbs down. ‘Basic and boring’ were the exact word used. This bummed me out, cause that’s usually my go to! I’ll give this place a go again, mainly because the food is OK and comparable to others in the area, but the staff and interior are a bit better than the rest. Maybe the food will have more flare to it next time. Wonder if you can ask them to spice it up a bit?

Love Moderno! The food and margaritas are spectacular, and I really love the atmosphere. Great place to meet friends for lunch, gather for happy hour, and I’ve seen a lot of families there too! My favorite dish so far were the beef Alambres: I asked them to cook them rare, and they did!(which doesn’t always happen at other restaurants– gotta have my beef fajita meat rare). They were so tender and tasty– definitely ordering them again… LOVE the salsa too– had to ask the waiter to bring more… Queso was DELISH, and I’m a queso snob… Can’t wait to come back to Moderno! If you are looking for a good spot for a Bday dinner or work meeting, they also have a private area tucked away in the back.

Went for dinner, 2 other tables with 3 people already seated and served. No other table or customers arrived after us, my brother and myself, ordered ice tea and was served tea with a barely an inkling of an ice cube. The tea want hot so it wasn’t sure to a fresh brew. Ordered when we got our drinks which was about 10 minutes upon arriving. So keep in mind no other customers entered, we waited for our food for approximately 30 minutes before the 2 cooks in the kitchen expedited the only order. The waitress also refilled our tea twice until we asked for ice and as we waited for our food. So how was the food… Bland, no flavor. Ultimately, terrible service, boring/bland food.

This place opened up in the old space that Prince’s Hamburgers used to occupy. Really clever interior with reclaimed wood on the walls, spanish tiles, metal chairs, booths, chalkboard wall by the order counter & a nice bar displaying a nice selection of tequila. I usually go to Moderno for breakfast so I can say their spinach & egg tacos are delicious without the sogginess associated with sauteed spinach. I’ve also had the migas & the huevos rancheros. Both outstanding but I think I like the huevos rancheros a wee bit better. I had mine with sunny side up eggs smothered in their rancheros sauce which is chock full of poblano pepper strips, onions & tomatoes. Hmmm, hm! Both plates come with a side of refried beans(which are very yummy) and potatoes(nicely browned & crispy). Their garlicky salsa compliments their breakfast tacos & ceviche which I had on a recent visit during the lunch hour. Nice serving of shrimp, fish, tomatoes, onions, jalapenos & cilantro. Basic but good & tangy, nice consistency to the fish. Convenient to the office & home(H & I have been frequenting this place on the weekend for breakfast), this place is definitely on our rotation of places to go.

Opened up in our neighborhood and we decided to try it out tonight. The place was packed, so we grabbed a spot at the bar. Our margaritas were on the small side but tasty. Fiancé loved the glasses because they were understated but lined with blue that gave a nice vibe. The salsa was solid, I love that it’s served warm. We ordered the cheese enchiladas and the shrimp Baja tacos. Tasty items all around. Shrimp were perfectly cooked and the cheese enchiladas were delicious. The refried beans had a roasted flavor to them that was different but still good. Overall, a nice spot that’s a nice addition to the neighborhood.
