Because their online store had a pretty significant sale going on, I decided to check out their store in person hoping to score some deals. As of July 10, 2013, their store front is actually closed. I could see racks of clothes inside the store but there were no employees in there. It seems like they closed down their brick and mortar(how ironic) operation and only do online sales. It was pretty hard to tell whether they have shifted their business to online-only but given the deep discounts they are running on their online store, I have no reason but to believe that they are going out of business. Summary: The store is closed. You can still buy items through their online store. I suppose the demand for high-end niche menswear brands doesn’t really exist in Houston. *edit* the store is apparently open by appointment only but they are closing it down soon

What’s up with Mortar… Did they close the physical location on Westheimer? They have been closed for over 2 weeks… no one is answering their phones.

Looking to burn money? MORTAR offers over priced men’s clothes. They take unreliable designers and mark the product up 50% to make you think it’s worth it. Then, when your purchase falls apart, they’ll remind you that you can’t return anything. As much as I’d like to support the small boutiques, it’s hard when they don’t care about clientele.

MORTAR is the Best Mens Clothing store anyone could ever imagine in Houston! Iris and Carly bring the best of urban Houston style to the General public with jeans that fit like a glove and hand cut shirts that will fit. every curve any man could ask for perfectly. I would trust no one else but Iris and Carly from MORTAR to tailor my garments to do the best work possible~

Wish I was in Houston to visit, but I bought a few items from Mortar through their online store and the experience was probably one of the best I’ve had. Iris provides very personal service and is on top of things immediately like when my order didn’t go through initially. Even though I bought some items that were at a huge discount, I was still treated like no other. Handwritten thank you notes with the order… pretty awesome. They carry mostly smaller brands, but all high quality, picked with attention. Definitely check it out if you looking to cop something to up your steez. Now I just need to wait for a deal on some all white CP Achilles… :P

This was a long time coming — I am really, really, authentically excited that Houston now has a store like this. The menswear you will find here(and buy because you saw it) are all from smaller companies — and they have a strict attention to fabric, detail, and fit(and where they’re made). Raw denim, chambray shirts, blazers, the standard oxford button down, leather sneakers, these can all be found here, and anything to fit your own personal style, in a fit for you. Can’t find something that you love? Ask their ultra-friendly staff, who are a wealth of information. If you’re new to any of it at all, don’t be afraid to step in!

so I wake up this morning to finish one of my reviews and guess what? I get a thank you email from Mortar thanking me for the business as well as some personal notes about my purchase! This is about as total 5 star worthy as you can get. I’m so going back. Excellent personal attention along with great clothing. Oh Mortar, I think this is the beginning of a very great relationship…
