The people are friendly and the chopped beef sandwiches are awesome! We love them! It’s a great local BBQ place that reminds me of the ones when i was growing up.

I love this place. It has been one of my favorite restaurants in the Meyerland area for about 8 years. The hours are great, the service is great, and the food is delicious. I especially love the ribs, sausage, chopped beef, and fried okra.

Not even close to real country bbq. They over season and there meat is tough. I love bbq but this is just sad cause I went and honestly couldn’t finish the shredded beef sandwich I ordered. Left hungry and with a salty mouth. Good thing they don’t have actual authentic BBQ restaurant competition near them cause they wouldn’t stand a chance.

This place is not good. No flavor, meat is dried out. Everything comes from a can. Peach cobbler is from canned peaches. Really disappointing. I seriously threw most of it away.

Had brisket, baby back ribs, bbq beans, green beans, onion rings and fries. The bbq beans were pretty okay, but nothing spectacular, no bacon bits or anything like that. The brisket was dry, flavorless, chewy– not like a brisket at all, it was tasty to crumble up and mix in with the beans. Ribs had no meat. Green beans were from a can. The fries were the second worst part of the meal, soggy, flavorless, tasted like they were frozen in the bag, left on the counter until the hit room temperature, then served. Worst part, and why it gets 1 star– the sauce. It tastes like watered down ketchup mixed with vinegar, maybe that heinz 57 stuff in there too. it has no thickness, taste only of tomato and vinegar. Do not recommend.

So we decided to eat here today. What a terrible choice and waste of money. I only gave it two stars because the baked potato was good. My husband ordered the two meat plate. The food was cold chicken was tough and flavorless. When he went to complain that his food was cold all they did was reheat his plate. We ordered four kids meals it took fifteen minutes to get my daughter’s order and it’s not even packed in here. We had to get up and ask for my daughter’s order. And show the receipt that we ordered four kids meals. Neatless to say we will not be returning to eat here. If you want good bar b que go to Hungry Farmers in northside it’s worth it! $ 44.63 down the drain.

This place is awful. If you enjoy dry brisket with no flavor, you’ll love this place. If you want to eat expensive rib cutlets that are all bone and stringy dry meat, you’ll love this place. If you want to pay $ 4 to get a pint of flavorless green beans that taste watery and soggy, then you’ll love this place. In all honesty, this place is terrible and extremely overpriced for what you get. This is the worst barbecue place in the area… JUSTAWFUL

I love BBQ, but not this place. Brisket can be dry, service is disorganized and takes forever. There are plenty of other BBQ places in Houston better than this. I honestly fail to see how they stay in business. I’ll admit I have not been recently, but I have no desire.

I’ve lived in the neighborhood for over 15 years and had never gone to this place until Nov 2013. Based on other reviews I gave it a try on a Friday night. The place did not have a single customer inside. I ordered a chicken BBQ baked potato and half a chicken BBQ for takeout. The total was $ 18 and change which is not exactly cheap. The potato was very large in size and the chicken was very lean and fat free. This item is worth buying for $ 8. The half chicken was another story. There is not much flavor to the chicken and it sort of tastes like rubber. The BBQ sauce they give you with the order is also very bland. In terms of service and speed it is excellent. Everyone is very friendly and you get your order in a few minutes. I did a take out order so I can not comment too much on the dinning area. I looked around and it looked okay to me. It is a dated look which is not a bad thing. The fixtures and furniture they have inside was new in the 1970s. That said, it is in very good condition and a nice change from how everyone is using simulated wood and granite counter tops to try and look upscale. I would say this place is okay for the potato but beyond that it is very subjective. You might like the main BBQ items that I did not like. It is worth giving this restaurant a try.

Came here today craving a baked potato and the craving was definitely satisfied. They have an extensive menu with a lot of choices, and the baked potato section has 4 or 5 different options, depending on how much meat you prefer. I got the Two Baker, which gives you the choice of two meats, and I got the chopped brisket and the sausage links, I think.(It was just chopped up sausage with barbecue and pepper seasonings) When it came, it was HUGE and piping hot. I shared it with a friend and also got jalapeño barbecue sauce on the side, which was a bit too sweet for me. The potato was loaded with melting cheese, butter, sour cream, and chives and the meat was given in generous toppings on top. It was amazing and after everything was mixed in, deliciously filling. I personally would have been happier if there were more chives, but besides that, it was great and affordable. Service was okay and we were the only ones there. The interior is okay, nothing too flashy. Good place to go when I don’t want to drive out to Alvin to Joe’s Barbecue Company!

Got the ‘chop baker’ at the Murphy Road location. The tater was huge, bigger than a softball but smaller than a football. It was cooked perfectly, through and through. Toppings were good; cheese, scallions, sour cream, BBQ, with other embellishments available. Lots of drink options available also from several brands of beer to soft drinks to sweetened or unsweetened tea. I was famished and yet could only eat about half. The lagniappe was just as good the next day.

2÷27÷1311:14am — Maybe their other two locations serve better barbecue. I scored Old Hickory Inn a 65 out 100. This is Bum Steer barbecue. Smoke: Hickory. The Southern Pride rotisserie is right behind the counter in its full glory. Why hide it? Brisket: Good. 1/8in standard rotisserie smoke ring. Snap apart tender. No knife needed. There was a decent smoke aroma and flavor. No rub detected. Use the sauce. Ribs: Poor. They reminded me of some amateur backyard disaster. You know where you have to lie to your friend on how great his ribs are to protect his ego. They were teeny tiny 3in long ribs. Either baby ribs or they are so cheap they cut the rack in half. They were burnt. They were dry and overdone. Worst I have had in long time. Use the sauce or skip all together. Sausage: Good. Course ground pork beef with strong traditional spice and long lasting after taste. A little greasy. Use the sauce. Sauce: Fair. Bring you own. My first thought was this is tomato soup, not barbecue sauce. It ruined an already bad plate of barbecue. Skip all together. Too bad because everything here needs sauce.

I’m a bad person. I know that they’re just trying to live life and run a business, but the BBQ was okay, and you overpay about $ 2 – 5 for it. HOWEVER, the service was great. Really nice people. I ordered the brisket sandwich. The BBQ sauce was pretty normal, and the brisket was a bit on the dry side. Unfortunately, that’s all I can say about this place. If you’re close to Old Hickory Inn, and you just can’t go another second without BBQ in your belly, try this place. At least they’re nice people…

I get food to go from here a great deal of the time. It is close to our home and it is usually VERY good and quality cuts. I have had the brisket and the sausage and have heard the beef ribs are good as well. I am not a fan of eating there. Not because of the dated décor or anything I am just a «carryout» fan for most places.

I a fan of this place more for the nostalgic factor than for the food. Now this is probably not the best BBQ establishment in the city. But it has a special place in my heart. I used to come here with my parents all the time as a kid. My parents still do takeout from here. I appreciate the fact that they offer beef ribs on some days. Most BBQ restaurants in the city only serve pork ribs. The beef ribs here could be meatier, but they’re still good. Baby back ribs are yummy too. BBQ sandwich hits the spot as well. I love their sides. Very good potato salad and onion rings. If you’re not in the mood for BBQ they also have delicious gyros. I would alternate between the gyro and the beef rib dinner when I used to frequent this place regularly. I don’t think I’ve ever had anything here that was actually less than tasty.

This is strip center BBQ. That should have been my first clue this was going to be bad. I ordered the 3 meat platter. I chose pork ribs, they actually had beef ribs, and sliced brisket. It came with 2 sides potato salad and sweet corn and a side of texas toast. First the pork ribs were terrible, no flavor and I literally saw him reheating them on the grill. I’ve had better riblets from applebees, and they are awful. As far as the beef rib if you like a big bone with fat there you go! The brisket was cold, no flavor, and overall weak. Potato salad and corn were the best they served but that’s not saying much. The texas toast was burnt, and the sauce was worst than kraft. My worst BBQ experience so far.

I adore this place. The décor is incredibly dated, and the bathrooms are dastardly(according to my husband, I was too afraid to see for myself) but the BBQ is tasty. The hubby and I stopped in on a Wednesday night to get some BBQ to go. We’re both in love with their baked potatoes. For around $ 7 you get a HUGE tater loaded with butter, sour cream, cheddar cheese, bacon bits, chives, and chopped beef smothered in BBQ sauce. Heaven on a potato my friends — and my husband’s fave. I usually splurge an extra $ 0.25 and go for the sliced baker. I prefer sliced chicken or sausage to the chopped beef, but to each his own. We also ordered two dinners to go; two meats, two sides, and texas toast will run you close to $ 10 a plate. Seems a bit steep to me — another reason we go with the taters. The dinners are absolutely huge. Sure you have to shell out $ 10 but at least they don’t skimp on the meat. I didn’t try either of the meats, or the sides, but our dining companions seemed to enjoy their meals. The potatoes were perfect — loaded with meat, and plenty of toppings. I always tell myself I’m just going to eat half of it… but I always nearly finish the monstrosity. I just can’t help myself… If you’re in the area, stop in for a tater. Service is always friendly, and the prices are reasonable. Just be sure to use the rest room before you go!

Decent neighborhood BBQ joint, a bit old in the atmosphere dept. Beef brisket is good. Fries are good. Cole slaw is good when fresh, but they tend to leave it sitting too long after lunch hour. BBQ sauce is good(better than other places within a few miles). For a fast lunch, I would rather have a BBQ sandwich here than a burger anywhere in the neighborhood.
