Best chicken tenders and honey mustard I’ve ever had.

My sister requested a traditional, American restaurant for her last meal before a summer trip to Japan. I found this place online and decided to give it a try. It has a home-town atmosphere with friendly service and good comfort food. We decided to get an order of the scorpion trails everyone’s talking about. They’re jumbo shrimp, stuffed inside a jalapeño, stuffed with cheese, covered in breading and fried. They were HOT(we thought they must have left seeds in the jalapeño, but the waiter said they soak the jalapenos in some kind of spicy marinade so they’re extra spicy) but delicious. My fiancé and sister ordered Bubba’s chicken with mac n’ cheese, my mom got chicken fried steak with smashed potatoes, and I got the fried catfish with fried okra. All delicious. Will come here again when we’re in the mood for comfort food.

An awesome family restaurant with a homely casual atmosphere that’s been around a long time but still delivers. The greeters and wait staff are friendly, attentive and make a real effort to ensure you and your family have a great time. They have an extensive menu and lots of tasty options for small kids. They also have a full bar with several beers on tap including some local options. All the food we tried was excellent. The grilled shrimp was well seasoned and delicious. Their sides including green beans and the rice broccoli were just right. The kids chicken tenders and fries were very tasty, good fries and very tender chicken. They also had an excellent selection of deserts. I very highly recommend Pappy’s café.

Standard fair. Had the Guacamole burger. Not too bad but not too great. The fries were soggy and not warm. Disappointed in those. Especially since I’m trying to watch my calories and hate eating things that are not a good trade in that department.

I love their catfish baskets. The catfish is in strips which I like. I always ask them to put the fried mushrooms and fried poblano strips on top. Yum! This is my favorite place for catfish. They have good hamburgers too.

The most amazing thing about this restaurant is the hospitality. Then there’s the blackened catfish topped with crawfish ETTOUFEE!!! Not to mention the broccoli casserole on the side!!! Another place that makes you feel as if your eating right out of your favorite relatives kitchen! The wait staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. Every need is attended to with a smile! I have began frequenting this eatery every other week! Their menu is a must have!!!

Awesome Mom & Pop Diner with Great food and great prices. I’ve never had anything bad here. Bubba’s Chicken, Chicken Fried Chicken, and Catfish Etouffe are my go-tos.

I came here for the food. The fries were not super seasoned, it was average, surprised it came with fried battered bits of pepper and mushrooms. Was not amused but it was appreciated. I ordered a hickory smoked bbq burger with pink lemonade. Drink was great, not overly sweet like most fountain drinks! Burger was sweet and saucy on a different choice of roll/buns. My only problem was with the environment. It did look like the decors needed some extreme cleaning and crowd was a bit too loud for what I was expecting. Waiter was a busybody. I just want to eat in peace, so if I take out my veggies on my burger, don’t make a big deal out of it. It’s a good place for a family or celebrating someone’s birthday as we saw with one group in the corner. Kids were loud, but they were having fun. That’s nice.

Initially parking was quite difficult since it right off the service. We were seated right away and our appetizer came out promptly. Our food though took a bit. We finish out entire salsa and queso when the good came out. Portion size was HUGE. I loved the Texas loaded potatoes. My bf got the half rack ribs and sausage. Which he liked a lot. Overall the food was decent. What I made me give this a 4 star and not the 3 was the service. Our waitress was so friendly and interactive. We loved her! I wish we got her name so I can post her up to the world to know. Places need more people like her!

One of my favorite comfort food spots in the city. Their hand-formed burgers are good, along with the chicken strips, cfs, and pretty much anything fried is hand breaded and is pretty good. They have many homemade items like soups, salad dressings, and french fries. They serve brunch from 11 – 2 on sundays. This is a comfort food spot that is generally frequented by whites and hispanics, and of course the memorial crowd. You will usually see an older crowd as well. They have been open since 1983, but they haven’t renovated or modernized the place, so don’t expect anything fancy when you come. They have a parking lot in the rear should the front lot be full.

First time to visit Pappy’s — great experience. Our waiter Terry was awesome he made is very welcomed. Terry brought us out some samplers — grits, Enceladus gravy and Charro beans all were great, grits were the best. I had Bubba’s chicken, cooked just right with Mac n cheese. We did not get to try the Scorpion Tails — as they are the most talked about. Great place for the family. We will be back for the Chicken n Waffles.

Recently, I tried to eat at Mason Jar, after spending 15 minutes sitting at a table, no one came to take our orders. So got up and left. Lucky for us Pappy’s was just next door. This place services southern comfort food. Chicken fried steak, fries, burgers, etc. But they have a few options that you wouldn’t necessary associate it. The stand out of my meal was the Scorpion tails, jalapenos stuffed with cheese and shrimp. MUSTGET! I also got Bubba’s chicken and this dish was quite delicious. The best part about this place is the service though. You get that down south hospitality you’re expecting.

I came here for my first time and was delighted by this establishment. The atmosphere is warm and the staff is attentive and friendly. I ordered a BLT meal for lunch and this is so far the best BLT that I’ve had in the Houston Area. The fries came with some of their fried mushrooms added and those were also the best friend mushrooms that I’ve had from a restaurant. A fantastic meal and experience all around!

I am not sure how many times I have passed this place and just been a bit curious, but never stopped to eat. On this particular Sunday at lunch time I was looking for something in the general area for lunch/brunch, but not a typical chain and not a place where the best thing on the menu is a hamburger. I was seated quickly and was initially a bit nervous about the rest of the meal since the table had sugar on it and other remnants from the previous diners. I ordered a mimosa and I have to say it was pretty good — not weak at all like at most places. I’m a light weight so even the 2 I had was really pushing it. I ordered the salmon medium with a side salad and their smashed potatoes. The potatoes were pretty good, but the description of them made me think they would be like a potato pancake. The salmon was a bit more done than I had wanted, but it still had a good flavor. The salad was good, but the blue cheese dressing they make themselves? It really just tasted like onions and miracle whip. Both of those ingredients overpowered any blue cheese so I wouldn’t suggest this dressing if you love blue cheese as much as I do. The service was good though. The greeter told me she was sitting me with their best server since it was my first time there and I can believe it. He was very attentive and didn’t mind describing the dishes. He seems to enjoy helping his customer so definite positive there.

I was actually expecting to be let down. All the reviews seemed a little too good to be true, however nothing was disappointing and the service was outstanding. Tortilla soup and the crawfish/spinach bisque were both excellent — our server Chris even brought out samples. Recommended bottle of wine was good and reasonably priced. The spinach artichoke dip was very good and so was the salsa that came with it. Ordered a caesar salad and guacamole burger(upgraded to the kobe beef) and they were delicious. Looking forward to coming back and trying more off the menu.

Wasn’t sure what to expect. Its quaint and a great place to eat and have conversation. They seated us very quickly and got us our drinks relatively fast. The food was good considering it was traditional American food. The only thing I that could have been better was the follow up during our meal as far as our drinks and if we needed anything. Its a nice place and I would suggest a visit. Thanks for reading :)

Consistently good. I typically hit up Pappy’s for lunch once every month or two. Each time, I’ve enjoyed consistently good, home cooked food. Service — Good. Pleasant, knowledgeable servers… Some have even shared their personal preferences which were tasty. I like how they review the daily specials early in the wait service. Food — This place simply has that«homemade» taste that most people enjoy. Whether you order one of their gigantic burgers or entrees, portions are filling. And, they don’t skimp on the ingredients either. Value — Moderate. Atmosphere — «Rustic Texan». It can be a bit chilly so if you are cold-natured, bring a light jacket or sweater. On my next visit, I plan to try some of their peach cobbler.

My goodness, everything is indeed bigger in Texas. It doesn’t look like much from the outside but once you get in there is a great atmosphere and the place is decked out with little trinkets, photos and other things. They get pretty busy during lunch and the servers get slammed so there is a little delay. As per my first sentence, the food portions are incredibly large. The prices are not too bad either. After trying to decide what to eat, since the menu selections are wide and vast in variety, i went with a safe bet of the Cheeseburger. Boy it was as big as my head and I had to toss the top bun just to be able to finish it all. It was solid. Thick juicy patty, melted cheese on top with the other fixings was just what i needed that day. The only thing is you better watch out for the food coma that sets in soon after eating here.

This place is great! The couple of times that I’ve been, the food has been awesome. I’ve passed by this place too many times and never bothered to stop. Parking can be a mess if you get there at lunch time, so try and beat that. Definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for some homestyle cooked food. Don’t let the outside worry you one bit. And if you’re the kind of person that cares more about what news station is on TV, then maybe you should just stay home, because this is worth more than watching TV, it’s great food.

I’ve lived in Houston since 1985. I have probably driven by Pappy’s more than 500 times, no exaggeration. I never stepped foot into the place until 2015, 30 years later. I can only guess that the flavor on the grill has made the place just that much better because I was happy I finally stopped by the gem on 10. Simplicity, quality, friendliness define the place. The motto above the door states it best, GOODFOOD. Service was extremely fast and friendly. Drinks were never empty and we had everything we wanted, water, tea, alcohol, food. Everything was done with smiles and quickly. We came fairly close to closing and were welcome with open arms. We ordered the lemon pepper Hawaiian chicken(a custom thing off the menu which they offered after asking), the Philly, and the Turkey Artichoke Supreme. The chicken had amazing flavor and then served with that pineapple that just turned spicy into sweet. The philly had some charred beef that was still moist. The Turkey Artichoke was also a good mix of healthy stuff Texas style(made large and unhealthy). I did not feel as though the meal weighed me down, despite the hefty portion. Got to come back some time.
