This was our first time here and our server Frank gave us an unbelievable experience! He is knowledgeble and recommended us many different items from the drink and food menu. Food was very delicious, drinks were tasty and beautifully presented. We had a great first experience and will be back for sure!

Overall very good food, service, atmosphere and $$. I visited for dinner at 6pm and parking was easy. The restaurant was open and no problem at all to get a seat. I was meeting another party and they had been there multiple times. I ordered the vietnamese beef and it was excellent! I also had a goose and cran and it was very good as well. Both my guest also enjoyed their meals. I did not pick up the check so not sure of the final bill; however, the meals were in the mid to upper teens. Excellent food for the price! As far a eye candy was not much plus I was there for business. I defintely plan on visiting again.

Love this place! Our server Jennifer was super sweet and really knew a lot about how the food was prepared and the ingredients. We come here all the time and love it but I have to say that Jennifer is what sparked me to finally write a review. She was just so charming! As far as the food goes, we’ve never ordered anything we didn’t like. The garlic beef is the bomb and the seafood chow fun is my new favorite. Love it all!

Rattan has such great reviews on Unilocal that we decided to stop by for dinner on mother day. Their interior is very modern and upscale. Food was delicious, we highly recommend their jalapeño calamari. The only let down is their service, we ordered a bottle of Shiraz but didn’t get it until after we finish our appetizer. The bartender was too busy talking instead of doing her job, she did stop by to apologize which we appreciate, but I was expecting a higher standard of service at such a nice restaurant. Our server Thai was very sweet and gave my wife a free crème brûlée, a nice gesture from the restaurant. We would definitely give rattan another try.

The potstickers were really good but the real star was the butter cake. It is out of this world delicious. A warm, buttery, caramelized dream served with vanilla bean ice cream and raspberry sauce.

I love the waiter/bartender! He was knowledgeable and knew every item in the menu as well as the ingredients. The Garlic Beef hands down was the best I ever had! Very social yet not crowded environment. I will be returning very soon!

I was there last night and had a great time. The customers I met who are regulars were very friendly and extremely helpful in recommending dishes. The wine selection is very good and Ron, the owner offered several samples once he saw what I liked. I can’t wait to go back. If you live in the area, it is a must place to go.

For years, this place was a favorite hangout for me and my friends for after-work meetings. Now, we meet there to catch up with each other since so many of us are retired. We love the happy hour small plates menu(you can get a couple of things without having to mortgage your house) and the great variety of drinks. All of the food is delicious – I usually order their really excellent Pad Thai & some sushi or dumplings, but everything is consistently high quality, damn good grub. They have a very nice wine selection, and I would give Rattan 5 stars if their moderate beer menu matched the excellence of the wine menu. Give me more glass-bottled Texas micro-brews, guys! Servers are always good and attentive. On our visit today, our server Frank remembered me from our last time there 6 or 7 months previously(remembered the beer I’d ordered!!). Like WOW. I’m really not that memorable, so it must be his server super power. If you try this place, you won’t regret it. Just don’t crowd it up too much for us old farts to enjoy.

Pan-Asian means you’ll love them long time. This past weekend, I visited Rattan with some friends again after a year-long hiatus. Somehow, it’s gotten even better. The décor is fresh — the update is subtle but it brings a great new look. Could not have been cheap. The restaurant was bustling on Saturday night. We were seated immediately by a friendly waiter(Tim?). Let’s get right to it: Tasmanian salmon sashimi(5⁄5): Huge portions of fresh, creamy fish. So good, no soy or wasabi needed. It’s like eating the ocean. Bistro/Rattan/Jungl/Volcano rolls(5⁄5): I’m not a huge roll person(my rolls are usually small due to my Asian genes), but these have a great flavor combination. Highly recommend trying at least one. The volcano roll is legit — this is not your typical fake-ass«Krab» roll, it has layers upon layers of snow crab meat on it. Vietnamese garlic beef(5⁄5): This is authentic, legit, Vietnamese flavor. Known to some as «Bo Luc Lac» or «Rock n’ roll» or «Shaken» beef in other restaurants, this dish is out of this world with its tomato fried rice and huge chunks of Kobe-goodness. Crispy tempura shrimp(4⁄5): Not exactly adventurous — this is just tempura shrimp with sweet and sour sauce. But well executed. Loses 1 star for not being as crispy as advertised. Crème brûlée(5⁄5): It’s a helluva drug. Ice cream mochi(3.5÷5): I don’t think they make these themselves, but it hits the spot if you’re craving it. Try it if you like ice cream or want something to entertain the kids. With wine(and you must — it’s a fully stocked wine bar), it’s definitely a splurge. But it’s worth every penny. I just wish they would open one inside the loop.

My husband and I love this place. It is great for a date night or easy to drop in for happy hour from 4−7pm on weekdays. The Vietnamese garlic beef is awesome! Seriously you have to order the garlic beef. They have really good sushi too. Trendy, clean, good service, and there is hardly ever a wait time.

I didn’t have a good first impression of this restaurant as I came for a late lunch and it took a little bit for the waiter to sit us and when we got to the table it was still all wet from the cleaning. The restaurant wasn’t packed, but it was sort of full. Anyway, once the order was taken the food came out very quickly and it was soooo good! My friend got the pad thai, which was very spicy, and I got the tempura shrimp with side of brown rice; absolutely delicious!

Post-Thanksgiving, our meal time schedules were all off! This means we were ready for lunch around 2:30pm since we slept in and had a late breakfast. It’s surprising how many restaurants in this neighborhood follow European schedules and close between lunch and dinner. So, we opted for Rattan. A friend of mine recommended it and said the food was commendable. Given that we’re in Houston, we went in for some non-Thanksgiving type of food. My husband and I shared a pot of Jasmine tea(yum and comforting given the crazy weather) and edamame. He opted for a filet mignon sushi roll and sashimi. I opted for a pad thai, and, I kid you not, this is the BEST pad Thai I have ever had in Houston! There was shrimp, chicken, and lots of deliciousness! It was also a reasonable size! If we’re ever in this neighborhood again, I’m definitely stopping by for a bite. AND, I hear they have a good happy hour… until next time!

Decent spot for hh sushi. Tucked away on Eldridge and doesnt seem like it would get overcrowded. Liked spicy salmon, would come back and try other sushi dishes

Shout out to everyone that recommended the satay platter because I had more meat than a sausage fest. I also got the Snapdragon roll and it was weird, but the good kind of weird like an throwback Tim Burton movie. And thank you, Frank, for sending that Blushing Geisha martini my way because if I didn’t have to drive home in the rain, I would have had three more. My to go order was still sizzling on the drive home and everything was carefully packaged in its proper container. My night ended with an excellent and well portioned crème brûlée that had chocolate at the bottom, so I may or may not have fallen asleep with a spoon in my hand, but the itis has no master but itself.

I’ve been coming here since 2011 because this place is amazing. Came here today and realized that I’ve never reviewed this place. Service: We had Brian today and he was awesome. I’m pretty low maintenance but he checked in a good amount of times. Food: I always get the garlic beed because it’s the most tender beef I’ve ever had. You add the lemon and salt/pepper mixture to the rice and it’s the perfect combo. Their sushi is good but I think it’s a better deal during happy hour. Their crème brûlée is done with a small layer of chocolate underneath. Pure deliciousness! Overall if you want a chill place to eat, this is the place!

The entrees here I would say are fairly good but they certainly did not blow me away. When I come here, I usually just stick with a sushi roll. The food that I really love when I’m here, is the appetizers. I have tried many of the restaurant’s appetizers and would definitely recommend most of them. One of my favorites is the Nacho Sushi. It certainly sounds like an odd combination, but this restaurant knows how to make it work. If you ever stop here and are looking for an interesting dish to try, I would suggest this dish. The presentation of the dishes is also very beautiful. This restaurant owns hundreds of interesting dishware, and it is always interesting to see how a dish will be plated. What I believe bumped this restaurant’s rating down a star, for me, was the lack of knowledge about some of the dishes by the waiters. There have been numerous times where the waiter has faltered over knowing what was in a dish or was unable to answer questions about items of a menu or a special that was being offered. For me, I found this rather disappointing, especially when it happened twice on separate occasions with the same waiter! In the last two years that I have been coming to this restaurant, I do not believe that the«special» item dishes have ever changed. If I am being offered the same specials over and over again, why not just add them to the permanent menu? I have heard many things about the chef at this restaurant, and I believe he could do more to expand the dishes. Overall, this restaurant is okay. I have brought parties here before and this restaurant has been well-accepted by my friends and family. It is clean and has a nice ambiance. It is certainly a trendy fusion restaurant, and it provided a nice atmosphere for a night out.

Alrighty, heard great things about this place so it was time to try. It can be expensive for lunch, we had an appetizer, 2 sodas and 2 entrees, $ 59. For lunch! Eesh! But it was a baby free date, it was delicious and there was plenty of parking. Appetizer we got the Kobe beef lettuce wraps, which were less wrap and more boat. Lots of those little crunchy strings, I didn’t expect rare beef(call me crazy) so it wasn’t to my taste, ATALL. But hubby enjoyed them even though they were quite plain. Hubs had special fried rice and said it was delicious, hot and fresh and full of flavour. I tried the lamb shank special, it was incredible, two, TWO lamb shanks, in Malaysian curry sauce, with lycée and baby carrots, and 2 pieces of roti Canai(my FAVE!!!) it was excellent! I also asked to try their English spinach mash potatoes as the server said they were excellent — but eating runny«thin» mash with a fork didn’t work and if I’d known there was a curry sauce before ordering, I’d have skipped the potatoes(the server admitted he didn’t know it came with so much sauce or would have told me ahead of ordering). Server was attentive, friendly, knowledgable and answered my questions on the menu specials. The atmosphere was bustly and the place was filled with men in suits from the energy corridor but it was pleasant. Also: order the lamb, exceptional!
