80’s music is the bomb! I’ve been a couple of years ago, but the overly crowded«in» spot did not appeal to me at all. I hate being packed in like sardines! Thank goodness on this Thursday I found a really nice spot directly to the right of the Spazmatics and got to dance my heart out to all my favorite 80’s songs. Tried to leave about 3 times only to shake my short butt right back– because the music was just irresistible. I don’t know how I’m going to survive clubbing on a weekday but for Sammy’s I’ll figure something out!

Sammy’s a review worth writing… This is a great place. Im not going to go over the top with any particular stories except this one. So one night I go there, I was with a few of my friends. My friends go to the bar to get me a drink. Im staying up near the stage. All of a sudden I get pushed by the shortest asian girls in midtown. if you are reading this review girls Im calling you out! you know who you are! So they were obviously a little drunk, but mostly just retarded. So they retardedly make their way up through the crowd haphazardly pushing people as if people didn’t mean anything to them. They almost pushed me, but I think inside they knew better than to mess with a triple black belt. Whaa –taahhh… They pushed the other buff dude. right in front of me. He was with his girlfriend. He didnt take kindly to the disregard of his personal space. The girls just wanted to touch the band members(Spazmatics) and they were about to push anyone out of the way that opposed them that night. So what does super buff macho guy due to the girls? They were so routy they push him A SECONDTIME! then he pushed them back and barked at them. he was so much bigger than they were that they got scared and ran away like little asian schoolgirls. Ahhh, haha-ha, but the fight wasnt over yet. So the girls go back into the crowd. I saw them tell someone in the back of the room. I think it was the leader of the asian mafia. So before I know it. 8 quasi-tall asian males swarm the area. I was thinking to myself Ohh snap! There’s about to be a fight up in here near me. The super buff dude wasnt paying attention, he was getting lost in Adam’s(the lead singer’s) eyes. So as super buff dude swoons, 1 of the members of the asian mafia rabbit punches the dude in the back of the head. and runs!!! What a punk.!! I went after that guy and had security squish him. — Highlights Its a band, they dress up, they dance for your entertainment. Ive been trying to get midgets to do this for years, but so far until I get my midget-act together. this place will due. its the only one in town of its kind. — Drinks are avg price — They have multiple bars you can get a drink at — Music is good, they get the crowd to participate. — Cons — Boo 10 dollar cover, always — Sometimes if you dont get there before 10pm there is a line wrapped around up to two sides of the building.(Thats an F-ing huge building too btw) — You will be standing the whole time. or at least most of it, seats are scarce. — Bartenders are so busy, it can be hard to snaggle a drink.(if you don’t know what snaggle means, look it up in the urban dictionary. c’mon. do it! I dare you.)

Like most people, I go on Thursday nights to jam with the Spazmatics. Those guys seriously know how to have a good time and get the dance floor going. The band usually plays at 10pm and midnight, so arrive accordingly. Wear comfortable dance attire because when 99 Red Balloons or Footloose comes one, the party is rockin. And don’t be too grossed out by the sweaty big dude that doesn’t realize he’s dancing in the freakin walkway. The atmosphere is too nonchalant to care. There’s three bars for your drinking pleasure, but I usually hit the secret one behind the stage.(oops, it’s a secret!) It’s $ 10 to get in, and there’s an ATM right as you walk pass the bouncer. If you park along the streets, beware the panhandlers by the Greyhound Station. I would valet if you can spare the cash.

I don’t know why it took me so long to check this place out but this place is frickin’ HILARIOUS! My review is based solely on recent back to back Thursday night visits(aka Spazmatics) but I hear it’s a great all around venue for live bands which could very well boost Sammy’s to 5star status. People have commented enough about the Spazmatics so I’ll focus more on the sweet ass crowd that congregates here on Thursdays. First of all, I’m older than the Dead Sea Scrolls so it is somewhat amusing for me to check out young thangs rocking out to 80’s tunes that were released when most of them were mere embryos. I mean I was in high school when these songs came out, how the hell do these people know the lyrics to every song? Anyhooo, I’m glad everybody digs the music from what has to be the most embarassing decade of modern man as it brings back fond memories of my glorious youth. Now, the crowd is actually pretty awesome. Good mix of old geezers like myself who really have no business being out on a Thursday night, and young whipper snappers who plan on ditching their Friday morning English Lit. and Psych 101 classes. But nobody really cares cause everybody’s too busy rockin’ out to Billy Idol. It’s a small place and the area around the stage gets packed so I like to place myself along the back left side of the stage so I can: A) see the band while getting a closer look at the bass player’s awesome Star Wars backpack that he’s rockin’, B) have quick access to the back bar where the bartender with the big boobies pours me ridiculously strong vodka redbulls, C) look out for cute girls who are usually sprinkled along the front perimeter of the stage that look back at me with wonderment as to why that old fucker is staring at them and D) look out for even more amusing drunken trainwrecks who try to wrestle their way to the front of the stage causing inevitable shoving matches and potential girl fights. D is particularly awesome and it’s quickly becoming a hobby of mine. Rock on Billy Idol, and oh yeah, thanks Spazmatics for getting that stupid Ah-ha song stuck in my head.

Fun place to go on a thursday night. The live 80’s cover band is awesome!!! I always have a good time when I come here. It brings back lots of great memories. I find that the women here are there to have a good time. Everyone is friendly and is willing to dance. You don’t get the whole I’m too good for you feel here.

Went to Sammy’s for the first time last night even though one of by best friends has been living in an apartment above it for the past 2 years… For shame… since this place turned out to be rocking! Got there around 10:30 and the place was already packed with people crowding around the low intimate stage on which the Spazmatics were rocking out to all those great 80s songs we love to belt out when having a good time. :) There is no coat check, but my friend kindly asked the bartender whether they could put our coats behind the bar, and they did which was awesome! The crowd is mixed, mostly mid 20s and up and the bartender told me that it changes on a weekly basis, how fun! People were getting pretty wasted for a Thursday night and lots of couples(hah, or strangers) really started sucking face on the dance floor, which I personally find amusing to watch… The band is amazing and they manage to get the crowd pumped up. They really know how to put on an act and even go as far as being in costume(neck braces, helmets, short shorts, emo glasses) as my friend mentioned it was like being in Napoleon Dynamite! The performers dance in a skit like way and it’s hilarious and a crowd pleaser(my personal favorite was when the guitarist started doing the robot dance!) You can tell everyone is having a good time and everyone is singing(belting) along. There are 2 full bars, the one in the back is less crowded, and check this out the smoker’s patio is in a parking lot beneath I-45! You know like those creepy lots under freeways where hobos hang out! It’s a trip, but it works fantastically, since it’s a nice big area(unlike some other place *ahem* boondocks…) Anyhoo I plan on checking out other nights, especially Blues night, but I’ll be definitely returning to see the Spazmatics because those guys really know how to put on a damn good show!

Reading all the reviews for Sammy’s it looks like I have to make it out on a Thursday night to check out the Spazmatics. But anyhow, I did make it to Sammy’s on a Friday night to check out the other ’70’s ’80’s cover band they book occasionally, SKYROCKET! There were so many good shows Friday. Nov. 7, Ume at Walter’s and Grupo Fantasma at Continental and finally SKYROCKET! at Sammy’s, it was tough to decide where to go. The wife being the 80’s queen that she is of course made the decision and because this review is being written for Sammy’s, SKYROCKET! it was. It’s easy to miss Sammy’s, it sits in the first floor of a residential tower. Parking can be tricky and scary in the area. Metro’s main bus station is a block away and the Greyhound bus station is on the other side. I would recommend valet if its available or the street, but do not park in the lot that says«Parking for 2016 Main» which is for the residents of that address not for Sammy’s patrons. You will be towed. Sammy’s is bigger then I thought it would be. The entrance on Main is nothing special, but when you walk in it opens up to a stage and a dance floor. They had tables set up, which you can reserve and it looks like they might have a couple of VIP sections. The tables didn’t crowd the dance floor or the stage. SKYROCKET! sounded great, with the music they played there were plenty of 40 somethings having a good time. The bar is big and the bartenders were great. Considering how crowded it was I never had to wait long for a drink. I liked Sammy’s a lot and I will definitely be back. I hope it’s a Spazmatics show very soon.

I went there last night to see skyrocket. I was told the doors open at 8 so I got there at around 7:40 to beat the crowd, and boy did I, it was me and the bartender for the first half hour. The crowd did start to show up, and the place was pretty full when the band hit the stage. I really like the venue, it’s a great place to see some mid sized acts, the stage was a little small for all 7 members of Skyrocket, but there was plenty of room on the dance floor. The bar staff was friendly, the prices weren’t a major ripoff, and there was rarely a wait to get a drink. Security was present, but not overbearing, which was nice. This place would be a 5 star venue, but the parking is horrible(no valet last night), and I am not a huge fan of the location. I will be checking in from time to time, I really want to see the spazmatics, and I know a few acts that would be perfect for the location!!! Sammy’s is the perfect venue for a show, the room is intimate, and the acoustics are pretty good, there was a little bass distortion on the DJ between sets, but no major complaints

I went here last night and I had a great time! Thursdays are 80’s Night with The Spazmatics and I guarantee you will have a kick ass time! There’s a $ 10 cover but the drinks are pretty good. Get there a bit early as the place is small and fills up fast!

Great party spot conveniently located in north Midtown. Spazmatics play on Thursday; they’re a retro 80’s band that covers a wide variety of hits with their own unique style. Friday and Saturday features Ms. Faye Robinson and the Mid City Players, a tight group of pros that play R&B favorites. Drinks are moderately priced, cover is reasonable for the quality of the entertainment. Crowd ranges from twentysomethings on up; it’s a very mixed crowd of folks who like to move to the music.

W/a Live Band playing who cares about a 10 $ cover charge to all the complaining posters. Line not a major issue either. Sammy Relford is really the character of this place because the layout/décor is very basic. Between songs, Relford yells«When you here, you happy!» getting everyone hype w/his personality. He plays a lot of cover, though Id like to hear originality more often. When its elbow to elbow, drinks are not easy to get. Place can be fun but not one i would visit often.

Came here on my most recent trip to Houston —- good music and saw a lot of old familiar faces! I would give this place 5 stars, but didn’t stay here long enough to experience it to it’s entirety. My friends and I got kicked out here only after an hour of being here! If this place is still around when I go back —- I would still go again for the music and to play catch up with some friends. But next time I will try to stay there longer than an hour!

This place was a lot of fun! Go to their 80’s nights on Thursdays. They have a band that does live covers! I can’t vouch for any other night, because I’ve only been there once.
