The food is here is actually pretty good for a golf course restaurant. I was quite surprised because I thought this place catered mostly to golfers who wanted food at a convenience. Food menu is limited but it helps them focus more on what they offer. I ordered the blackened fish taco on corn tortilla. The amount of food was satisfying and the combination of toppings and sauce was on point. The fish was cooked well and not overly seasoned. I highly recommend this dish in this configuration(I.e blackened and on corn tortilla). Chips and salsa are complimentary so try not to fill up before your meal arrives. Service was mediocre. It took a very long time for our server to take our order, fill our chip baskets, receive a bill, and take our bill. I even had to get up from the table and deliver the credit cards myself. They gave us chocolate chip cookies because of the slow service(I think) which was nice. The restaurant wasn’t that busy that day. Perhaps we had slow service because we were sat at the corner end of the room.

Came in Friday for lunch with a party of 6, ordered fish tacos and long islands. The fish tacos on corn tortillas were amazing! Thank you for the great service.

I’ve decided to take a star away due to: 1) The menu keeps changing. 2) Smaller portions for the items that stay. 3) They have been messing up our orders a lot lately… at twice a week. However they still have great food. If you can’t make it out the office, the delivery people are very pleasant.

This place is somewhere between average and downright boring. I took a client for lunch here on Tuesday, and I was just surprised by how dull it was. I checked in with the hostess, and I told her I had a reservation for two. She looked at me like I was stupid for making a reservation(sorry — i use Opentable for my business lunches to make sure we don’t need to wait — seems normal to me). She wanted to stick us in the corner, and when I suggested the better table near the window, she really didn’t seem interested in having it cleaned(all the dishes were already off the table — it just needed a wipedown). BTW two days later my Opentable points are showing as «pending,» which means the hostess never bothered to use the computer and check us in. In terms of food, it’s just kinda boring, like the décor in there. You get free chips and salsa, but the chips aren’t very high quality, and the salsa we got was pretty warm in terms of temperature. Who wants warm salsa? We both had salads for lunch, and they were decent, but the lettuce wasn’t that crisp and the presentation was weak. Our service was okay, but nothing special. One plus is that you get a free chocolate chip cookie at the end. I can’t turn one of those down. But honestly, I’ll never go back. I don’t see why anyone else would. The place is boring, the staff is uninterested, and the food is bland. And the salsa is warm… Maybe come for the free cookie.

We had reservations for 6 people on a Friday night, but found out that afternoon that they would be closed for a private party. They said, no problem, come on in and we will set you up in a separate room and take care of you. They did exactly that and it turned out great. Everybody enjoyed their food. The young lady waiting on us did a wonderful job, was very friendly and efficient. The chicken-fried-chicken was especially good. Will certainly go back again. **JAY**

Some coworkers and I decided to try out Sandtrap during our lunch break. This place could really use some work — the staff seemed uninviting and almost rude. The food was about what you would expect of your local fast food joint and almost double the price. It also took forever to get our food. It’s never a good feeling, walking out of a restaurant feeling unsatisfied and –in a way– ripped off. Anyone that knows anything about golf knows that sand traps should be avoided. I’d say that this place is aptly named. Or who knows– maybe I just had a bad experience.

Sandtrap Grill is right down the beltway from my office, so I come here a lot for lunch. I find the food and service to be moderate… some days it’s better than others, but it’s good enough to keep me coming back. I oftentimes find myself excited about a menu item, especially the large selection of tacos, but then a little underwhelmed when the food arrives… it is sometimes a little too bland and flavorless. BOTTOMLINE: A nice«country club» lunch experience for the area.

Great service! Good sammiches! They should consider opening before 11am on the weekends when people are there with early morning tee times… we had to run over to a kolache shop nearby bc the bellies were not going to be happy waiting til 11 to eat! We ordered their fried pickles for the table app… yum! I don’t care what anyone else says, fried pickle chips are soooo much better than the spears! My Golf Club sammich was tasty! Loads of real turkey breast, ham and bacon on a ciabatta roll… if certainly hit the spot! And the onion rings were good too! Everyone was pretty satisfied and happy that we stopped after the front nine to enjoy a meal together at the table vs taking lunch to go. The grill even offered to deliver our lunch to us on our carts if we wanted! That’s pretty cool!

DONOTGOHERE. Ordered a Club sandwich and this is how it was made: bread, lettuce, tomato, and bacon(bits, not slices of bacon, but bacon bits for a salad). It wasn’t even three slices of bread; they just cut a sandwich in half and stacked it. It took them 45 minutes to get the food out. Food was cold. Literally, the worst restaurant ever. I don’t think I’ve been a worse place ever in my life, and I eat out 2 times a day for 6 days of the week for about 9 years now. I don’t ever complain about the places I go to, but this was for sure was so terrible that I had to write about it. #You’re not on a golf course, you’re in Hell.

I went here on a Dealfind voucher with my hubby and four year old. The hostess/waitress was very accommodating to our needs. It is small but relaxed. We sat by the window and watched the golfers play. We ordered the sampler appetizer which was a lot of food for three people. The best thing on it was the quesadillas. The kids chicken tenders were very crispy and had the crunch kids like. The Chicken fried chicken is so-so, forgettable. The«best chicken enchiladas ever» is not the best ever but okay. All in all it’s a place that serves it’s purpose for a quick lunch for our family. I would have rated this place higher but when they presented the check and I gave my voucher over my iPhone they had a problem with it. She said I needed to have a printout of voucher so she could Scan it so I can’t reuse it. The voucher never said they preferred a printout and all of a sudden I was feeling like a criminal. I explained that she could use my phone to get the voucher number and order number to document that I used it today(this is what has usually happened with other businesses) she said I should pull it up on my phone again and click that I used it so she could see that I could no longer used it. This makes no sense to treat a customer this way, especially one that tipped you 20% of actual price of check and after deciding with my husband that we would come again with our son. Not a chance now.

For a restuarant along Beltway 8 Sandtrap is a surprise in the rough. It’s small size dining room gives you the feel of a country club w/the golf course in the background. What’cha havin’? So many drinks to choose from. Although not the best place for lots of foreign drafts, it’s liquor shelf is stacked, and the domestics are cold. This time of the year Houston offers it’s best weather, so sit on their patio and soak in it(if you hear some one shout«fore»… duck). I like their quesadillas & their sandwhiches are a favorite amongst regulars, especially the chicken club. For those interested in hosting a private gathering here, to compare handicaps and who strokes the best, this establishment is always convenient.

«Surprizes [sic] are foolish things. The pleasure is not enhanced, and the inconvenience is often considerable.» – Mr. Knightley to Emma in Jane Austin’s comic novel, Emma(1815) England in the Regency Period of the early 19th century as portrayed by Jane Austin is a bit stuffy for me and I couldn’t disagree more strongly with Austin’s character, Mr. Knightley. Surprises truly are the spice of life and I find that the longer I live in Houston, the more adept at surprising me the city becomes. My most recent big surprise occurred recently when a group of business colleagues and I stopped at Sandtrap Grill for lunch after a meeting. First of all, I had no idea that Sandtrap’s parent organization, the Heron Lakes Golf Course even existed. Located across the North Beltway from the racetrack and near the traffic-inducing confluence of the toll road with Hwy 249, this public course(known for its short & narrow fairways, lost balls and reasonable prices) is hidden behind a series of industrial parks and other commercial buildings. I’ve never noticed the restaurant either, because it is immediately adjacent to one of Houston’s University of Phoenix campuses which has a large logo on the front façade(matching the size of its marketing acumen) that dwarfs Sandtrap’s. The first thing you notice when you approach the front door is a quirky sculpture made up of hundreds of golf clubs which leans in a haphazard fashion against the restaurant wall almost as if it had been blown there by Hurricane Ike. When you enter, you walk down a corridor to the north side of the building and are instantly transported from the high-decibel hustle and bustle of Houston’s concrete jungle to a quiet space with large windows facing idyllic greens and fairways. The surprise accompanying this transition really does enhance any pleasure derived from your dining experience there. Our waitstaff were a bit brusque, but efficient. I only had to wave at them a few times to have them bring the check after the meal. The menu is a bit pricey for the casual fare. Most of the items are in the $ 8 – 12 range. One of my colleagues ordered a filet of salmon with two side dishes for $ 12. He enjoyed it a lot. Another had a burger for $ 8. I didn’t taste it, but my visual observation told me that it wasn’t Beck’s Prime quality even though it was offered at Beck’s premium price. I sampled two grilled fish tacos in corn tortillas for $ 9. The jalapeño ranch sauce was much zestier than you’ll find at Berryhill, but at $ 4.50 per taco, this was more than double Berryhill’s price for comparable fair. I must be easily entertained because I chuckled out loud whilst reading the menu. It sported some punny selections including a «wedge» salad and a «golf club» sandwich. The pastoral feel of the place made up for the questionable culinary value for money. It’s a very pleasant place to have a meal if you find yourself up on the north side.
