A group of us(4) came here one Sunday for drinks and food. When we initially arrived around 4pm we planned to attend the bar down the street but it was crazy packed so thought it was good timing to try Scrappy Brown’s. There was a nice crowd inside and out at SB but not overly crowded. The parking lot was full so we parked across the street. We went inside and the DJ had the old school tunes bumping. We walked up to the bar near the entrance and was greeted by a male and female– both were very nice. They offered us food from the brunch menu but since we just came from eating crawfish we just ordered drinks. You are able to view the kitchen as soon as you walk in and the food smelled sooooo yummy. Everything appeared clean. It was a pretty day so we ended up sitting outside for a few minutes before moving inside. Once we got a booth, we ended up ordering a few items: Oxtail sandwich and fries and another sandwich with an egg in the middle — both were soooo yum! The food came out hot and within about 20⁄25 minutes of us ordering. I will say it can be a little confusing when ordering after you’ve been seated because a diff waitress is assigned to your section and you’re unsure whether to order at the bar and/or entrance and pay or wait at the table for your server. Other than that, we ordered drinks throughout the night and all came in a timely manner. The servers were also very fun and friendly. There isn’t an actual dance floor but there’s space around the place to dance. Restrooms were very clean. Overall experience was great, we got a chance to chat with the owner and we will gladly return.

Came on Sunday for«brunch» and it was our first time. Parking lot… tiny but since no one was there we found a spot easily. I should mention it was noon. We walked in and there was no hostess or identifiable employee ut a few people around the bar. We walked to another«bar» i think it might be a prep station and were told we had to go to the real bar and order. makes sense. The bartender was a female and she also was lacking in her friendliness. She had just watched us walk in with no greeting and let us walk around confused which is embarassing. My friend ordered french toast, eggs, and bacon and a gentrified(drink) while I had a crown and seven, only two of us ordering and the bartender forgot my drink request. The food had ok presentation BUT there is not a single salt and pepper shaker in the entire place, entire place with no ketchup containers or salt and pepper shakers. How are you a restaurant. I had to ask the cook for some which he had to put in condiment plastic containers. He also made a point to hit on me and ask the marital status of my best friend and myself. We sat on the patio which was nice because we needed sun… there are no umbrellas out there nor speakers so having a dj is only relevant for the indoors(i never saw a dj just a dj set up which now a days is just a lap top). I say skip this place and go to 5015 which is what we did and had the best time at 5015.

Walked in & wasnt greeted or helped the DJ had to tell us to seat ourselves & order our food at the bar. Food was good but customer service was not. The guy that brought us our food we asked him for silverware and more syrup and butter he brought it but told us there were no servers or waiters if we want anything we have to go to the bar and get it ourselves I don’t understand why we were charged 18% gratuity but we had no servers or waiters that should have been explained to us up front. Plus they do not give you enough syrup and butter for your pancakes but charge you an extra $ 0.25 for more. I wanted to come back to this place because I liked the 90’s music played by DJ but I will not

This is one if the worst run places I have ever been to. I waited quite a bit to write a review. I have been for brunch, happy hour, and dinner. Some of the worst service I have ever encountered each time. Sat at the bar and at a table. Last time there was table service. Today they watched me and my friends sit at a table for 15 minutes without coming over to say hey we now only offer bar service. There was a guy dropping off salt n pepper and I asked him what was up. U have to go the bar to order. Brunch last time I waited an hour n a half for dry pancakes and cold wings. Got there as soon as they opened today for brunch and had about a 30 minute wait. Walked to the bar and ordered a side of wings $ 5 and a side of pancakes $ 4 and a glass of wine $ 7. Over $ 20 bill So I ask where the other $ was coming from. Bartender mumbles that starting today they add an 18% gratuity to all checks on Sunday. So if I come back n order another drink I get another 18% gratuity added. Really? One of my girls ordered just eggs and toast and they said they only have honey to put on the toast. What are u talking about? Dont serve it if u don’t have condiments. Gave me a side of ketchup with my wings. Why? At least the food was decent this time The only good thing about this place is the brunch DJ. Cool guy who bought us a round. Wonder if he had to pay gratuity lol. Don’t come here. It gets worse every time I come here. Overpriced madness. Last brunch was standing room only. Today it was less than half full. Wonder why…

**Sunday Brunch*** This Restaurant is not worth the time or effort to go. The food was the GROSSESTFOODEVER!!! It was not hot and it was thrown on the plate like Scrap’s. I guess that’s why the name is Scrappy Browns. My fiancés chicken was pink in the inside his pancakes were over cooked. I got the oxtail omelette!!! Yuuuuuccckkkk. the egg wasn’t done in the inside anddddddd it was just gross. I’m from NC and I just recently moved here and I wanted to support Black Owned Businesses here since I did it in NC but you know what. it was a Waste of 60.00. The mimosa cafes Were 12.00ANDIT Wasn’t Worth it. You Can Go To a restaurant off of Rice University and get unlimited mimosas for that price.. I’m not recommending this place to Absolutely NoOne!!! If you want people to continue to come to your establishment you have to have great customer service and u have got to invest more into your business.. OMG did I forget to mention«Uncle Charlie«with the dirty towel across his shoulder taking up dishes. he asked did we need anything we asked for syrup and got it 5 conversations later that he had with women in the place!!! Smh I will never be back!!! EVER :(

Well I must say I was so excited to get back to Scrappy Brown’s because last week everything was so amazing. I even invited two friends to join me. To say today I was disappointed is an understatement. I ordered my same French toast meal and it came out before I could find a seat. I was so shocked but now I know why. My food was in a burner that had already been cooked. What?! Who wants that? So I proceed to get ready to eat it but it was cold. I then send it back and ask for a new one and yup you guessed it. They just warmed it up. So now it’s hard. Smh that’s horrible. Then they forgot to bring my complete order with the bacon on the new order. The potatoes were still good. I thought I found a new brunch spot I could enjoy but that isn’t the case unfortunately. The DJ and vibe was still great but my food was a huge disappointment. I won’t be trying them again for brunch.

Went here for Sunday brunch with 3 friends and will not be returning again and will make sure to let everyone know of how horrible the service was. The person taking order was also the bartender, so while taking orders she would have to stop and make drinks. While she was doing 2 jobs there were 3 food runners standing behind the bar doing nothing. It literally took 30 minutes of standing in line before we could even order our food. 30 minutes later one of my friends received her pancakes and wings. The chicken was seasoned well and tasted good, however the pancakes were burnt. 15 minutes after she got her food I got my French toast with bacon. Now the French toast was not bad but not good either. The bacon was ONE slice cut into 3 pieces. Definitely not what I was expecting when the order said it came with bacon. This was more like a garnish of bacon and not having bacon with your meal. Now after 45 minutes after we ordered they brought one of the fish plates, when 2 were ordered on the same ticket. Now 3 of the 4 of us finished eating and my other friend never got her food. No one could explain how after an hour from when we ordered that she still had not received her meal. Even worse when the food runner that brought everyone else’s food said 15 minutes earlier how she saw the kitchen dropping her fish in the grease… But now no one could figure out where her food was. At this point she asked for her money back and left with out getting anything to eat. Oh and when she checked her account they had not refunded her money but rather charged her the same amount twice and then once again for the price of the drink she had while waiting for no food to come out. Now to make things worse we had a couple of friends that came by after eating down the street and wanted to join us on the patio while 3 of us actually were eating. They were told by the door man that they weren’t allowing anyone else in. Now mind you the restaurant was no where need full and they didn’t even need to come in just walk on the patio. This was the craziest thing I have ever seen. So from the ridiculous wait time to order, get food(if you even get it), rude staff and lackluster food I will surely not be going back again

I visited this establishment on a Thursday night it was pretty cool it was Saint Patrick’s Day so it was festive. I got one of the signature St Patrick’s drink, which was really good. We sat outside which was nice there was a waiter coming every so often plus a live DJ. The only thing is the service takes a long time if you’re ordering from the bar, they were super busy and I believe a little understaffed so one drink took almost 20 minutes.

First time visit tonight with friends. Prime location. Nice, sexy crowd forms around 7:30… Customer service — well there is none! It took us 30+ minutes for someone to finally bring us a menu after multiple requests. The manager only said she was the only one working at the time. Wth? When we finally got the menu, it took another 20 minutes to place our food order. By this time, I was completely over it. The food was piping hot, which was good, but everything we ordered and sampled had a strong vinegar flavor– turnt up wings, grilled cheese and fried chicken sandwich and the oxtail sandwich. The oxtail sandwich tasted more like roast beef. My friends husband literally waited 2 hours for his oxtail sandwich and he ordered before me. I’ll never return, and wonder how long they will remain open. Hopefully they improve on all levels!

It was our first time, party of 8+, my family had been telling my husband and I about the restaurant so we decided, the next time we visited the city, we would surely go. 1. We had chicken wangs and it appeared that the grease was old. 2. NO oxtails available. That’s why we came. DUH??? 3. The fries were on Point!!! 4. Service was slow. 5. The meat on the hamburger wasn’t seasoned enough and the eggs was all you could taste. It was more like an sandwich. 6. The fried chicken grilled cheese sandwich was s missing the fried chicken 7. totally disappointed.

Horrible brunchI felt so bad for our waitress because it’s not her fault. I got the chicken wings and pancakes, which were luke warm. It took almost a hour abs half to get mimosas for 2 ppl and 2 hours to get food that was mediocre. I seen many people just leaving and not even taking a bite of their food. With the amount of people complaining, I wonder if the owner is even aware that his/her business basically sucks. Pull it together or get closed!

*Sunday brunch review* They’ve got potential! This was my first time here but it’s great to see black business thriving in Third Ward. We took an über but there was still a small parking lot in front of the establishment and potential street parking. I think the main reason I am giving them a 4-star rating instead of 5 is because my food was not hot. However, I was too hungry and just dealt with it. The owner was assisting with the flow of service and our waitress was attentive and friendly. The portions are not anything too over the top but instead, a good amount. I was tempted to order a side as we had ordered another carafe. They have daily specials that I wish I could check out but I no longer live in Houston. They have a good sized patio and enough televisions for it to be a great environment. It looks like this can truly be a hit in the tré.

I stopped by this place last night with some friends. This place has an awesome vibe. It’s unapologetically black and I love that. However the only thing that I can say that the music is Extremely Loud. It’s hard to hold a conversation that way. Other than that you can dance and eat in the same place that’s pretty cool. We had the oxtail fries and oh my God they are good! We also tried the hot wings and they were delicious as well. I will definitely be back. And soon

The food is great… BUT today they advertised $ 8 mimosas, but I was charged $ 12… After showing the Waitress the advertisement, she said it’s $ 12 in the computer, but I can talk to «him». After talking to «him» he said it was an error on their behalf & that my server should have told me… Well she didn’t!!! So he gave me $ 4 in cash. Southmores were advertised as $ 5, but they were charging $ 10!!! Then they ran out of Southmores!!! Horrible service & they have false advertisement

Great new joint the décor is appealing the drinks are refreshing especially the Southmore… Tip… it’s easier and faster to order your drink at the bar than to wait for a waitress because they pretty swamped with orders… Now we visited on a Friday for Happy hour and the DJ was on point… it was a group of us(8) and as we walked in he was playing BBD Poison… he noticed all of us catching the beat and it only got better… He came to our table and ask where were we from(Chicago, Atlanta, New Orleans & Los Angeles) he said I have something for all of you. Wish I remembered his name but I have to say(Lastnight the DJ Save My Life)…also try the Oxtail French fries you will love them…

I really like this place. To start, the décor is nice, the drinks are good, and the restrooms are clean. Our bartender was very attentive and seems to have a great rapport with her regulars. I’m glad to see something like this in the area. The comedian Ali performed when I was there and was quite funny. I like that they seem to offer something every night, and that happy hour ends at 7pm, for those of us who can’t do the 530pm and 6pm happy hours. Parking is a joke, but I’m from the area, so I wasn’t overly annoyed. All in all, this is a solid place to try. I think it’s going to be an awesome place to hang out during the upcoming warm months.

This is my second time here… That being said… The day time staff is far more wonderful than the evening staff and I enjoyed MLK here earlier this week. So… About tonight… Service. Sucks. No waitresses. Bartenders stare down at the register to avoid eye contact. By doing this they miss the order of who is coming up to the bar and prioritizing. They don’t greet anyone and by going out of order are upsetting people left and right. Also the kitchen is closed as I’m posting this which is not wise. In this area there are 5 – 6 other evening venue options, what could set Scrappy’s apart is the option to get food late. Their food is good, but that’s the only compliment I can offer right now. I know they’re relatively new. But. In this cutthroat city there are certain things nightlife connoisseurs look for… Customer service is at the top of the list. Then price and quality. We’ll be taking this party elsewhere at the moment…

I think they did a rush job on opening this place. I was eager to support but didn’t get the SHAZAM! I was waiting for upon visiting. The location is great. That Almeda area needed more options so. The interior setup gives off a cool gastropub vibe. However, the service is lack-luster. The appearance of servers/bartenders …lackluster.(didn’t look polished much, more like they rolled out of bed and weren’t knowledgeable of much other than basic ciroc and pineapple juice concoctions.) Food tasted lackluster.(if that makes sense). *Sigh* I just wasn’t impressed. & I feel some type of way about it. I had heard about this oxtail philly cheese steak for weeks leading up to it but no fireworks. My wings were super breaded and took forever because they ran out of ranch?(that was the servers answer) So ranch dressing now dictates how long an order of wings arrives at your table. I’m a blue cheese bi*%h myself buttttt ok girl ._. They don’t offer much beer variety for it to technically be a gastropub so hold your drool. I think they have alot of potential but only if they make a few(4 or 5 or 6) tweaks and such while they’re ahead of the«new biz» curve.
