I have been going to this location off-and-on for a long time — mostly on a Sunday. Awesome do-nuts, if you’re not into the gourmet type. The coffee, though, is brewed semi-strong, but I like it. It helps me stay awake. Friendly, courteous, and patient staff. You do need a lot of patience to deal with the parking situation, though. The store is built on a small lot; not everyone drives a small car. Who drives those? We’re in Texas, y’all!

As far as other reviewers insisting that there’s broad variation between Shipley’s locations? Maybe. This is my third location in a couple of weeks and it was slightly worse than the other two. The plain cake were worse here than the other two locations. What made the plain cake worse? They were too narrow(non-girthy), and kind of overcooked. The other two locations didn’t have these problems, but all three shared one huge — and worse — problem: blandness. The plain cake donuts are bland, bland, bland. No hint of nutmeg or anything. Just bland. The raised glazed donuts were kinda chewy and meh. The stupid fritter had a little undercooked dough in the middle. None of these donuts were the worst. But none were really all that hot. The filling in the lemon filled was goopy and sweet with no real citrus tang. Ok for chain donuts — but just barely OK.

This has to be the most popular donut shop in Houston and they have plenty of staff to keep things moving. Especially popular are the kolachies and the melt in your mouth fresh glazed donuts.

I hail from a state where Krispy Kreme was the closest thing to real donuts we had. Shipleys though… Wow… Their so good I am sending a care package back home with a dozen of the filled Do-Nuts. I honestly almost wish I never tried Shipleys because now I am hooked. I am going to try those kolache things tomorrow… I just hope my arteries can withstand the abuse! :)

This is a very old school classic type Shipley. A sugar burst in the morning, best way to kick start the day.

Tried drive-thru window yesterday for the first time. It works better if you know exactly what you want. I will be back definitely…

Have a hunger for Shipley’s donuts, but it’s after 10pm? This location is open until 11pm! A quick search of near-or-inside-the-loop Shipley shops shows that only the 11285 Southwest Frwy location stays open longer, which is open 24 hours according to the website. Caution: the shop closes at 9pm, but the drive-through closes at 11pm. At 10:30pm, the glazed donuts aren’t as fresh as in the morning, but a 10-second nuke in the microwave will get it close to the morning-melt-in-your-mouth state. *Though not as open as late as this Shipley’s, if you want a kolache, there’s a Kolache Factory right next to this Shipley’s.

kolachies I know I spelled this wrong. But do not let that stop you from ordering these unique to Houston breakfast specialties! You will pay a price the rest of the day for indulging yourself but its a price worth paying. dig in and enjoy! It’ll make you want to slap your momma!

Another Texas chain but I love the donuts here… I don’t know how they get the donuts to stay so moist, maybe its the water or maybe its the 100% humidity in Htown, but they are good. They also sell kolaches(which are from the Czech Republic) they are the most amazing yummy things! I’ve only been able to find kolaches in Texas, nowhere else(If you have seen them in any other place please let me know, especially NY) But kolaches are these sweet rolls filled with things like cheese, ham, and sausage. And only in Texas, can you pick up a dozen donuts through a drive-through.
