I thought I had written a review for this truck, but it’s not there anymore on Unilocal.I’ve tried several of his dishes on multiple visits, and they’re all really great. Obviously the egg rolls are a must. One of the best food trucks in Houston, without a doubt. You usually don’t get to be on TV with bad food!

Having ate off his truck yet he’s always been a great chef so just by my past experience the food should be great just like his Cajun egg rolls I’ll be catching up to the truck soon enough

Skewered meats aren’t exactly the type of food that you would expect to find off of a food truck, but that’s exactly what St. John’s Fire specializes in. I suppose that it makes sense that they could cook up these little meat popsicles since there a lot of BBQ places smoke their meats on pits attached to their food trucks. Look for the cloud of smoke and follow your nose to the smell of roasting meat for a taste of St. John’s Fire. The truck is painted such a bright shade of red that if they put a few more lights on the outside of the truck, it could almost double as a fire engine. I found them one Friday evening during the Food Truck Festival at the HEB on Alabama; the parking was a real nightmare, but that had everything to do with HEB and the event. I won’t hold that against St. John’s Fire, although if you find yourself at this once a month event, make sure that you plan ahead for the parking. St. John’s Fire literally looked on fire with the plume of smoke billowing out from the top and enveloping the area around the truck. I wasn’t sure whether to pull my money out or a fire extinguisher. My stomach only has so much room that it can pack food into, so I opted for the beef skewers to get a taste of the food. After waiting nearly 30 minutes in line, I wish I would have ordered more to-go since I didn’t realize how long I would have to wait to get my order. In all, it took more than 45 minutes from the time I stepped in line to getting my skewers in my hand. It took me all of two minutes to eat the two pieces of skewered meat off of the stick. I had visited two other food trucks and ate my purchases from those trucks before I ever got my order from SJF. The beef skewers were definitely flavorful in regards to being grilled, although they were a little heavy on the taste of propane fueled gas to cook them. It was a bit of a turn off since I paid nearly $ 7 for two skewers that had two 1oz. thin cuts of beef on each skewer. The meat was tender and I didn’t really have to fight it off of the stick, which made for an enjoyable dining option since I had no utensils available and only a couple napkins. Of all the food trucks, this was definitely the longest wait for the least amount of food. The two stars is definitely not based on the flavor and tenderness of the skewered meats, it’s for the overall experience that I had to wait nearly twenty minutes to get my order, the expense of the product, and the overall lack of variety on their menu. I certainly don’t want to discourage anyone from giving St. John’s a try, but I wasn’t impressed with the food enough for the price point that they charge for skewered meats.

I have tremendous love for everything fried and battered that come out of this truck. They know how to do greasy food right. Whether it’s the crunchy chicken sandwich(perfectly fried chicken patty with bacon and brie, super rich and filling!), Cajun egg rolls(crispy with hearty stuffing, spiced tastefully), tortilla battered fish taco(nicely flakely battered fish with zesty refreshing coleslaw on top), and the now renown crawfish mac n cheese balls, it’s pure guilty food pleasure but comforting and satisfying from your taste buds to your heart and stomach. Service was friendly and very prompt(surprisingly based on how busy it was and how long the line was). Their pull pork sandwich is on my to-try list next time!

This truck stopped by during work… I had the hot n crispy chicken sandwich with brie, fig preserves, and bacon. Hmm, I couldn’t find the brie and not much bacon. The chicken was more breaded than actual chicken meat. I probably ate half of it before tossing it. Too much breaded/fried food for me. Later on, my stomach started hurting and immediately regretted getting fried food during lunch. Needless to say, I came to the conclusion that my chicken was frozen and not fresh. The crawfish mac n cheese was pretty good though and I recommended.

This has become one of my favorite food trucks! The cajun twist and heat on the food is what really makes this truck stand out! I got the Hot and Crunchy Chicken Sandwich. The torched brie is what really made me want to get it. Man, it was the best chicken sandwiches I have ever had! It had two big pieces of chicken on it! you get more than your moneys worth. If you see this truck definitely stop and get some great food!

Tried this truck at the Sugar Land farmers market. I’ve had my eye on it for a while — I think it’s gonna make my «top Houston truck» list. It was DELICIOUS! We had the hot and crunchy chicken sandwich, pulled pork sandwich and the Tex-Mex fries, minus the Tex-Mex lol! Staff were lovely and friendly, menu was extensive, diverse and different, food was delicious(pork sandwich packed a heated punch). my soda was out of date(August) and tasted like crap, but the food was worth the short trip to the market. So glad to see trucks coming to Sugar Land!

Caught Joel and his Food Truck on the Food Network about a month ago and have been dying to catch up with him! We saw on his FB page that they were going to be at the Sugarland Farmers Market a couple of Saturdays ago so we trekked out there to get our Cajun Fooding on! Joel and his staff were so cool! The truck looked great! Menu was easy to read and visible from a good distance away. We tried a little bit of everything… +Cajun Egg Rolls: like a shrimp étouffée on the inside. lots of flavor, the dipping sauce that came with it was sweet and tangy. only thing misisng was a spicy kick +Crawfish mac n cheese balls: first bite was ahhmazing! this came with a dipping sauce that was pretty good as well. .. kind of a cajuny remoulade. .. again missing the kick Fried chicken sammich with brie and a bunch of other goodies on top. .. this sandwich rocked! You need to look St. John’s Fire up and find out where they’ll be and BETHERE! :)

Hot and Crunchy Chicken! The best thing here in my opinion. I thought the Pork Sanwich was a little bland, but the chicken sandwich was so good, I will be back.

I’m a food park regular, and I saw this truck was there. I’d never tried it or even seen it there before, so of course I did. I even saw from the sign on the truck, they’ve been featured on Eat St.(a food show). Meh. I ordered the tortilla crusted fish… the picture looked amazing. It turned out, the fish and service, weren’t all that. The guy was sitting in the drivers seat, and while I was standing at the window ready to order, he didn’t notice for a few minutes, until I knocked on the window. He walked over to the window and said«I just saw you walking back and forth and didn’t think you wanted to order». Everyone walks from truck to truck to check out the menu… anyway, I thought that was rude. I ordered, got the fish, and hardly ate it. The fish looked rreally good, but was oh so bland. The crust was crispy, but no flavor, and the fish inside, although cooked well and flaky, had no flavor either. It was on a bed of rice, that lacked flavor as well. I pretty much drowned it in ketchup to get some something on it. Not a fan.

I love this place! The pulled pork sandwich his phenomenal, I’ve never had one quite like it. Recently I’ve been getting the fries every time I go and they’re also fantastic. I’ve also had the crawfish Mac and cheese and the Cajun egg rolls. Everything about this truck is great! Super friendly service as well.

One of the best pieces of fish I have ever had PERIOD. The Mac-N-Cheese Crawfish balls are insanely good! You must hunt down this food truck and try this food. You will not regret it.

This place is a solid find in the H-town area, but nothing that blows your mind. Definitely give the shrimp corn dogs and the crawfish egg rolls a shot, but they just seem to be short that one extra ingredient(salt and or a hit of lime/lemon maybe?). They’re super friendly, and really affordable, and cook up some mean spicy food, but I was looking for just a bit more. Definitely check them out if you’re in the area, and get ready for some fire!

Dear Lord! all I can say Mac-N-Cheese Crawfish balls! My Mouth is watering just talking about them, it was worth sitting in traffic during the lunch hour in the Galleria just to get to these things, they were so amazing when we got back to work my mouth was watering! It is soooo good! If you ever pass this food truck stop immediately and ask for the balls! You will not be disappointed!!! I was not a big fan of their eggrolls they were very smokey and I don’t like ham but for some reason I think guys would really like these. Good all the way around!

We hit up St. John’s Fire at the HEB Food Truck Fridays gathering last week. It appears to be one of those«high-concept» food trucks that hasn’t gained much traction in the Houston food community. That’s evidenced by the limited number of Unilocal as well as greater Houston press reviews. It’s a shame, because their food is actually very good. The«fire» portion of the truck’s nom de plume refers to the cajun heat permeating its dishes, while the«St. John» portion refers to the last name of the chef. Reference to St. Elmo’s Fire is purely coincidental, since the food tastes nothing like Emilio Estevez. I’d heard good things about the crawfish egg rolls even before coming to the truck, and I wasn’t disappointed. The guava salsa dipping sauce is certainly something to try, while the crispy egg rolls are chock full of crawfish and tasso ham. I liked the tortilla-crusted fish better. It sat on a bed of flavorful rice and was topped by a simple, yet fantastic, corn relish. The fish itself was perfectly cooked, flaky and juicy. The price, portion size and flavor profile reminded me more of a food truck like The Modular rather than easy-bite trucks like Eatsie Boys or Houston Streats. Because of this, I feel like they’d be better off setting up shop at a hipster bar like Grand Prize, where generous food truck portions are more sit-and-eat defined. At a grab-and-go event like HEB’s Food Truck Fridays, people more naturally gravitate to snazzy fusion places like Chi’Lantro or tried-and-true bites like sliders or crawfish. St. John’s Fire definitely deserves to have more than the 11 Unilocal reviews it shows on Unilocal.Should time pass by favorably for the crew, it wouldn’t surprise me to see them set up a brick-and-mortar dishing out delicious cajun food.

Crawfish mac ‘n cheese balls, awesomeeeee. This food truck was parked at Karbach on Friday and they did a great job feeding the masses. Definitely going to keep my eye out for them around town!

I was able to track this truck down at the Menil. It was a cold afternoon and the FIRE warmed things up. I had an order of the Cajun egg rolls it was 2 for $ 8. It was nice and crunchy, full of shrimp and other goodies. Tasted like a gumbo in an eggroll. I also had a hot and crunchy chicken sandwich for $ 7. It tasted like chicken and waffles with the sweet and savory taste. It was packed with bacon, a sweet sauce, and brie. I enjoyed this the best out of my tastings. Finally, I had the crawfish mac and cheese balls. My only complaint would be a bit more crawfish, it was more like crawfish flavored mac and cheese, still good, but more meat!

I got the Tortilla Crusted Fish and Gumbo Ya Ya. Tortilla Crusted Fish was awesome! The fish is a great size, great crunchy texture on the outside and tenders and fresh on the inside. It’s topped with a mango glaze and colorful salsa, and served under a bed of rice. For $ 7 this is quite a steal and it’s presented in a restaurant quality. The Gumbo Ya Ya was totally a miss for me. For $ 6 it’s a good serving but quality was what made me dislike the gumbo. The gumbo contained chicken, andouille sausage, onions, and green bell peppers and served with a piece of buttered, toasted bread. The gumbo was extremely oily and I’m not sure if this is due to the andouille sausage but it was quite unappetizing. Consistency and texture of the gumbo was lacking as I was expecting the gumbo to be a more thick kind of gooey feel. I think this is due to the lack of a main ingredient in gumbo… okra. I definitely enjoyed the fish and will be back for it. It was a well balanced meal. They were very fast in preparing my meal. FYI there is a $ 1 charge for credit card if you do not order $ 10.

First heard about this truck during filming of one of the food trucks for EastStTweet. Heard that this would be one of the five. What I said? Never heard of it. So of course when I saw it. I stopped(in front of Bo Concept). Never mind that i had already nommed on a few slices of pizza earlier… I make room for food. The owner, Joel was standing ready to greet me under a large umbrella in front of his truck. We chatted a bit. He let me know he had been dreaming of opening his truck for a bit and made it full time about six months ago. He recommended the cornflake encrusted tilapia. Ok. For $ 8, this is a deal. It engulfed the to go box it came in. It covered a bed-a-rice with some fresh pico and the fish was nice and crispy. The sauce that drizzled it… was not to my liking. It was suga sauce — I think it may be some sort of mango type stuff. There is a $ 10 minimum for credit cards and I’m assuming that their menu might change every once in awhile as they have a digital screen. Like the idea of southern food turnt up and the food was decent. I like it and hope Joel succeeds!
