Been here a few times with friends, always popping in for a drink or two before we head off to another location. Ambiance– sultry and romantic, yet still maintains a certain masculinity. Wrought iron is abundant as is dark hardwoods throughout. Drinks– beer selection is great, however their gin and tonics leave something to be desired, as my boyfriend was unable to drink his and had to go back to choose something else more appealing. Service– service is a little slow, especially during peak hours. Food– we had a chicken flat bread that was really delicious, and a perfect snack in between bars.

I’ve been meaning to try this place, so I gathered up a group of friends and we popped in. The outside area was small and full of smokers, the inside booth areas that were unoccupied smelt like the carpets needed a good clean, the smell was like stale old alcohol(like an old nightclub smell) also that l someone may have been sick sometime before. Sadly we couldn’t stand the stench so we moved on. Will give it another try on the next night out in Montrose, and will update if there’s been any improvement.

This is a great cocktail bar with that is somewhat refined and sophisticated. They have interesting house made cocktail options and small bites with great happy hour prices. I ordered a house cocktail that was a good venture out of the ordinary followed by my usual Martini both cocktails were right on point… Thursdays are 6 dollar Martinis for Happy Hour… I’ll be back to check it out…

Checked this place out two weeks ago with a friend. We were a bar or two into a cocktail bar crawl, so I just want to add the caveat that my mind started to get a bit fuzzy around the time we got here. Still, as a cocktail afficienado, Stone’s Throw definitely impresses, whether you’ve had one drink that night or ten. I’m definitely more into fruity drinks, and Stone’s Throw delivers on that account. I started my tab with the Baked Apple Mule, a nice little twist on the classic Moscow Mule with cinnamon and apple adding a great contrast to the ginger beer that cocktail is built on. My friend had a nice little number with Irish whisky and blood orange; she didn’t like it, but I was pretty happy when she decided to give the rest of it to, so it has my personal seal of approval in that regard. We finished off the night with a pear and tequila cocktail that I don’t remember super well at this point(we were both about done at this point), but the drink was quite good with a nice tart-sweet flavor and a nice edge of tequila funkiness in there. Stone’s Throw’s bar tenders are a great bunch, very friendly and quick with their shakers. We were never waiting more than 3 or 4 minutes for a drink(it was a slower night though, so I can’t really expect that they’d be quite that fast on a busy one). The décor is very cool, with a lot of brass and wrought iron creating a baroque and vaguely steampunk-ish atmosphere. The giant brass contraption(I have no idea what it was supposed to actually be) looks like the central idol in some kind of bartending temple. They also have balcony seating overlooking the main dining room, which I thought was very cool.

Love this place! The feel when you walk in is cozy, the décor is perfection. The bartenders are very nice and helpful when trying to make a selection. Their drinks are amazing, some of the best crafts that I have ever had! It is a great location, and even when it had started to fill up, we could all still talk at a normal level and hear each other. That’s important. Parking can be a nightmare I guess, but I found some right on the side, past the little patio. Will def be back!

Love! I’m a sucker for cocktail bars with the speakeasy feel to it. The bartenders dress so cute and play the part well and make a mean cocktail. We had a group of 8 and sat upstairs. We were able to talk and hear each other, the music wasn’t awfully loud. One thing I can’t stand is being at a bar and not being able to hear the person next to you. At one point it got crowded downstairs but the place cleared out fast. We had a great time catching up with old friends and new friends and enjoying all the great cocktails there. Love the atmosphere and the location, great addition to the Westheimer/Montrose area.

Stones Throw has a cool vibe and excellent drinks that match the atmosphere. If you’re ever in the Montrose area and looking for a cool place for happy hour or just a spot to have some drinks before dinner Stones Throw is an excellent choice.

I must admit that I have a penchant for cocktail bars that provide great drinks and a great atmosphere that can make for a great photo op with my girlfriends. I will slowly but surely try all that Houston has to offer. This day’s choice happened to be Stone’s Throw. I had heard great things about it so I decided it was time to go. The high quality of their service began with the valet attendants. They were cordial, professional and represented themselves well. A great way to began my first visit here. The venue is actually really modern and I just really love the vibe they have created. I was equally impressed with the overall presentation of the cocktails. This included the look and taste of the cocktail. I love fruity sweet drinks and this place delivers just that. It was slightly crowded but that is always a good thing for a group of single ladies. While we may not have made some love connections, we were able to catch up, take selfies, and enjoy great cocktail drinks!

Very cool bar on Westheimer just across from Anvil. The good: The cocktails are AMAZING and beautiful. I tried the Violette Femme(prosecco, pisco, crème de violette, lemon juice, simple syrup, and tiki bitters) and the Stone’s Throw Punch(Kentucky straight bourbon, elderflower liqueur, ruby red grapefruit juice, simple syrup, orange bitters, sparkling water, and sprite). Both were amazing. I also tried my friends’ Stone’s Shandy(ruby red grapefruit vodka, pale ale, lemon juice, and peach bitters) and Finn MacCoul(Irish whiskey, blood orange liqueur, falernum, and orange bitters) — both of those were amazing, too! Their beer list is extensive, too, and includes a bunch of local and Texas beers! The interior of the bar is beautiful. Very chic and modern. It has a very cool upstairs balcony area with seating and a few tables outside as well. Because it’s on the south side of Westheimer, it’s pretty easy to find street parking near the bar. Bartenders and service were great. The bad: I’m going to sound like a grumpy old man saying this — but the bar is TOO loud. We were so lucky that an outside table opened up, because we couldn’t have stayed inside. The downstairs of the bar is packed and too loud — how can any one have conversations down there?! We just took a glance at the upstairs balcony — but the bar was so loud, I can’t imagine you could have conversations up there either! We were lucky to grab a table outside, but lots of people weren’t that lucky, and so many people were standing outside that I’m pretty sure I hit a person with the door each time I went in and out. Also, the outdoor area was very smoky. Amazing cocktails, great beer list, but a little too club-like inside for me! I’d love to try it out again — but maybe during off hours or during happy hour!

I like this bar a lot, I just wish it was a tad bigger. I’ve been here a couple of times once on a Sunday fundae when we took it upon our self to do our own bar crawl down Montrose, once on a Thursday HH, and this last time on a Friday night for a birthday party of about 40. We had the entire upstairs which was really cool, although we had to go back and forth for a cocktail. FINALLY, a craft cocktail place that doesn’t take 27 years to actually get your cocktail.(You know who you are!) The bartenders are very friendly(unlike a couple of other too cool for school places) and the prices are very reasonable. A cool hipster vibe without the attitude is what your will get here. Lots of carious cocktails including some killer Moscow Mules and champagne cocktails. Def. one of my favorite places now.

I went for an event here and the wife and decided we had to go back and try their beat the clock happy hour(that is at least what we called it in college). From 4:00 — 5:00 all cocktails are $ 4.00 and so on. Drinks are really good. Bartender were fairly friendly, a little impressed with themselves but fine. I tried the punch which was decent, but prefer a nice bourbon cocktain.

Get here for their spring cocktails. Claim a seat at the bar and ask for Caleb, he will take it from there. There is no food served here but they have tasty caramel, bacon bourbon popcorn. Drinks to try: Stone’s Shandy, The Dark Phoenix, El Guapo and their famous punch. Progressive Happy Hour Daily from 4 – 7 where the price matches the hour, so at 4pm the drinks are 4 dollars etc…

Right so… Am I a regular? Maybe. How dare you judge me? The Aviation, the Ginger Rogers, the mythical punch bowl(and if anything screams corporate happy hour that would be Punch Bowl Wednesdays Special). Mixed crowd paired with great, personable and skilled bartenders.(Munchies? Food truck across the street… Unilocal for it! Or the Bacon Bourbon Caramel popcorn they served here… Yeah, you read that right«Bacon *bourbon* caramel popcorn»… No joke.) This is a phenomenal place to spend a Thursday, Friday or Sunday night(ready for some Twilight Zone action? Stick around on a Sunday… Weird ducks abound). Classic rock playing all the time, making you feel like you’re in a Californication episode. So get in trouble, get into a lot of trouble! Engage with strangers, screw it… Let the chips fall where they may! I can’t really sell you this place. Stop by, you be the judge.(It’s awesome!)

I’ve only been here a couple of times, the first time during Halloween so I didn’t really get the full experience of what Stone’s Throw had to offer. It was too packed, too crazy, and I had genuinely thought this place was an extension of Boondock’s. Silly me. I had the opportunity to finally have the Stone’s Throw experience when my friend wanted to celebrate her birthday at Boondock’s. It was a Friday night and the line was crazy long at the Boon. Anyway, I went to the Boon but the place was just too packed and I couldn’t get a drink to save my life(well I could, but the wait was kind of unbearable) so me and another friend said happy birthday and goodbye to the birthday girl and decided to go next door and drink a little before finishing our night at the Barbs(that’s Barbarella to you.) Although this place gives out a sense of pretentiousness, but this place is far from that. The staff at this place were just AWESOME! The bouncer dude? One of the best bouncers ever! Why? Well, the entrance is right next door to the patio so me and my friend were talking to him and he was just a cool, friendly dude. Unlike some douche ass bouncers at some midtown establishment that shall remain nameless *cough GASLAMP cough cough* The wait at the bar isn’t too shabby either. The bartenders were cool as hell. None of those, «oh, I see you’ve been waiting on me, but let me keep serving all these girls and ignore you» I mean, I get it. You want to serve the hot girls first, but hey, this short Asian dude needs to get buzzed as well, yo. And the people behind the bars at Stone’s Throw achieved just that! Stone’s Throw isn’t a bad place at all to start your night. It’s right next to Boondock’s and right across the street from Anvil and Etro. Cool people, great drinks, nice ambiance, pretty décor, no lines, and not douchy. What else could you ask for? Yes parking sucks, but they do offer valet service and if you’re determined, you can always find parking on the streets within a few blocks of here. But hey, that’s just how Montrose night life is, right? Oh yeah, definitely try the Stone’s Throw punch. It’s super tasty and definitely pack a punch.

I am not sure why the name Stone’s Throw but I suppose when Anvil is packed from wall to wall this place is literally a stone’s throw away making a it a great plan B. I like the dark speakeasy ambiance of Stone’s Throw. They have tall booth seating, a larger communal table and bar seating. We found a spot at the bar and I was happy to find purse hooks(yay!). When I saw on the menu they make their own ginger beer in house I knew I wanted a Moscow Mule. Jesse ordered one of their bourbon based cocktails. Both were good and strong but too sweet. Sadly they do not serve mules proper in a copper cup. After seeing they had 3 bottles of Pappy Van Winkle we decided to stick around for another round. I switched to a malbec while Jesse indulged in a glass of 12 year Pappy. The wine was turned and after mentioning this to the bartender he replied it was just opened yesterday. I find this hard to believe as I have had Nacarro Correas Gran Reserva before and it had clearly been open too long. It not only tasted horrible it smelled horrible too. He said he would open a new bottle but instead he poured a glass of Château St. Jean Merlot. Really?! They have another type of malbec, if you were not going to open a bottle of what I ordered why not offer up a glass of the other? I chose to be «happy» and not let it ruin my evening and therefore let it go. This place is pretty cool. If they tone down the sweetness of their cocktails and pass it over to that one bartender I would consider coming back.

First impression was a good one. Came with a group of friends Friday night and had a great time. I noticed the place a week or so ago while drinking at Anvil and was hopeful for a good addition to the area. Interior décor is very similar to Royal Oak which is under the same ownership. Dark low lit lights, modern objects placed in a warm wood environment, the usual trendy stuff. The main bar room has a great big black chandelier hanging from the high up ceiling. The top of the liquor shelves behind the bar taper to a point and makes the whole drinking experience feel like going to church. Service was very fast and friendly. Beers, punches and mixology cocktails were being served to the crowd at an impressive pace. Bartenders did a good job of explaining the drink menus and helping people come to decisions. The drinks themselves; I don’t think the drinks are on par with Anvil’s over the top finite detail drink making skills, but sometimes you just want a good cocktail and I believe Stones Throw accomplishes that just fine. This is a promising addition to the hood and the two bars compliment one another very well, in aesthetic, clientèle and cocktail choices. I look forward to future nights of mini bar crawls from one to the other.

Great place to meet up with friends especially during their awesome happy hour. Bartender was friendly and unique cocktails tasted great. They also have homemade ginger beer and a good selection of beer. Don’t forget the Bacon bourbon caramel corn… I hope they extend their snack options in the future. PS they have valet.
