There are some good things about Sushi Rock. –It’s close to where I live. –It’s never really crowded. –The prices are crazy cheap. –Some of their rolls are really good. There are some bad things about Sushi Rock. –Some of the waitstaff doesn’t speak very good English leading to ordering mistakes. –Some of the dishes are crummy. –Restaurant isn’t too sure if it’s Japanese, Thai, Korean or what. –There are usually only two waiters working all the time no matter how busy it may be so service is always lacking. You get what you pay for. Don’t come here expecting awesome because you’ll get ok.

Good sushi given the price point. In fact, I thought it would be worse. I have a hard time going to other sushi places now, because Sushi Rock provides above average sushi for a below average price.

Bait should be used for fishing, not for eating nor should you be charged a premium for exceptionally poor quality food. I’m not sure how or why we found this place to cater to our clients, but as stated before grocery store sushi is 10x better, I personally refuse to patronize places who have conflicting identities, I mean pad thai ISNOT even Japanese or in any way related, it’s Thai food. Clearly they have no idea what they’re doing, and it shows in the poor quality of food, I was personally embarrassed just how bad this food was after we served it to our valued clients. Fishy, old, smelly, ammonia smelling, it’s a wonder no one got sick. This restaurant needs a visit from the health inspector post haste, avoid this travesty at all costs.

Pretty awesome menu and staff. They made something for me that wasn’t on the menu but I had seen it online. The golden dragon role is the way to go — shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, salmon, crab & avocado topped w/masago & mango for 14 bucks! Definitely my go to spot.

The prices here are AWESOME. I came here for happy hour and(with drinks, appetizers and a roll) walked out with a tab under $ 20! The food is comparable to other sushi places in the area that charge significantly more. After having sushi rock, I just can’t go anywhere else(unless I’m craving something very specific) because I feel like I’m being ripped off. The sushi is the same good stuff you get at a Houston sushi bar. Rolls tend to be a tiny bit smaller than they are at other places, but I actually like that because you can try more of them. At the end of the meal, the price per unit volume is still better than anywhere else I have tried in the area! Ambiance is alright, service isn’t great. I wouldn’t come here on a date, but I’ll definitely come here with friends. Awesome value

My favourite place to get sushi! I have been coming here for years. They have great deals during their happy hour which occurs quite frequently! Even when it isn’t happy hour their prices are very reasonable for how delicious it is. Their sushi is very fresh and yummy. The Playboy Roll is to die for and I get it every time. I also suggest the Tuna Lover roll. Recently I had the Fried Oyster Hand Roll that made me roll my eyes back in ecstasy. Their Eel Roll is pretty yummy, too! Pretty much all their rolls are delicious, though! They also have non-sushi items like Pad Thai that my boyfriend loves! It may not look like much on the outside but on the inside it’s comfy and very nice! I take all my friends here and have made them regulars! Nice staff and just an all around great place to be. Highly, highly recommend! P. S. The Spicy Tuna Tekkadon is so good and has so much food the the price!

Traditional, affordable sushi! Convenient location to the Med Center! Interior is very nice, but I picked up a to go order! One appetizer and four rolls for $ 30! Great deal! Definitely a good and well priced sushi restaurant! If you live around the Med Center, you should check this one out!

The food here is good, but not great. On food alone, I’d give this place 3.5 stars. The low rating is due to the service. During our meal someone came by our table every two minutes, which was quite distracting. The biggest faux pas was the waitress clearing dishes. I was nearly done with My meal, and she asked«are you done with that.» I was not, yet before I could respond, my plate was being whisked across the room. When I complained to the manager, he seemed unconcerned. I shall no longer be dining here.

This is not where you go to impress your boss or your girlfriend(unless she’s like me and loves a good deal, in which case well done you!). This is the place you go when you want good quality fish at I’m-not-sure-how-they-make-a-profit prices. You can get hammered on $ 1.50 beers and $ 3 large sake while chowing down on $ 3 rolls and $ 2 nigri. During happy hour, I’m overly full and pretty tipsy for around $ 20. Yes, I’m hungry again in like 30 minutes, but that’s not Sushi Rock’s fault, I blame that on sushi in general. Best deal I’ve found in the city, and if you miss happy hour you can always grab a coupon and get half off regular menu prices!

The service here is TERRIBLE!!! We waited forever for our server to take our order. Took her about 45 minutes to get our food. Waitress never checked on us. Others servers had to pick up her slack. Food is delicious and affordable. However with service as bad as it is. May not come back

I had to force myself to give this place 3 stars. First off, their delivery system is not very user friendly. They have different delivery services that delivery to different areas. This isn’t mentioned anywhere on their website; I found out because when I was trying to place m order, I was told that I was out of area and I had to call and find out. Once we got the food, I was not satisfied. I ordered 2 sushi rolls and neither of them were very good at all. The rice was overcooked and the flavor just wasn’t there. I do commend this place for the AMOUNT of food that they offer; quantity over quality is definitely the motto of this place.

A few of us ordered from Sushi Rock as a delivery. We were excited when we called and asked what came in the bento box: your meat, rice, salad, soup, and two rolls: california roll and sashimi. If you are ordering strictly for quantity, definitely think about ordering the bento box. As far as quality, I would rethink ordering from Sushi Rock at all. The teriyaki chicken was just unappetizing. Sad, dull pieces of triangular chicken in an equally sad sauce. The rice was dry and just as unappetizing as the chicken. The sushi, while not awful, is not the best you can get here in Houston… In my opinion Kroger has better sushi. The miso soup was just… miso soup — didn’t stand out but wasn’t bad. The best part of the dish was the salad which was quite refreshing and had a good dressing. Not so sadly I will not reordering from Sushi rock.

The day I walked in, there was only 1 other table occupied. Then I found out that happy hour doesn’t exist on Wednesdays. Lastly, the air smelled like a mildewy mop bucket. With all of these red flags, why didn’t I turn around??? I should’ve gotten up and ran out the door, but alas we had already committed. I ordered the chef’s special, which was a roll with some pieces of sushi plus soup. Quality of food was poor. Sushi fell apart. Literally! They didn’t make enough sushi rice, so each piece was missing that«compact» texture. You’ll end-up with lots of rice in your soy sauce. Also, the rice may have been old, thereby lacking that«stickiness» factor. The salad had a carrot-based dressing — somewhat sweet, but not to my liking. The salad lettuce was el-cheapo iceberg that day. Service: needs improvement. Although waitstaff is courteous, they need to grow some friggin antennae! You’ll need to perform the statue of liberty for a good 10 minutes before they notice you have your hand up. Also, when they served us, they forgot the place settings.(What, we just eat with our bare hands?) This was probably one of the meals I regretted the most.

I got a Groupon for this place and then read the Unilocal!reviews(I know, wrong order) so it was with a bit trepidation that I finally entered this place. The ambiance of this place leaves a lot to be desired as it resembles a burger king, which was converted in 1995 only to have no further renovations or maintenance done in subsequent years — and the smell! Like rotting fish. Gross. Still, I was in a sunk cost situation and I would not back down. We got the miso soup and edamame to start. Delicious. I was surprised. Then we got 3 – 4 rolls total, 2 of which were localized — the Houston, the Astros. Both were creamy inside and sauced. The traditional rolls that we got were also quite good, but I still left expecting food poisoning based on the claims from other reviewers(and the look of the place). Not a good feeling to have upon exit from an eating establishment, so I probably won’t be back any time soon with so many other places to choose from.

This is exactly what I love to find: low key, quality restaurants that deliver great food, no frills, reasonable prices with a pleasant staff. Ordering off the lunch menu, I couldn’t help but love every dish ordered. As far as I’m concerned, their lunch menu is a value. The fish was very fresh and generously cut. The Peppered Tuna Nachos left you wanting more. The LS-E was ordered with the Crab Salad Hand Roll, which is highly addicting. The Basil Chicken was another hit with juicy pieces of chicken that were thankfully not heavily salted. The wasabi has a good amount of potency — which is a plus and something I judge sushi restaurants for. Overall, even though they have a pretty good Thai menu, I mostly enjoy them for their fresh sushi and recommend you do too!

I contemplated on giving them 3 or 4 stars. I was thinking this really isn’t the best sushi place I’ve been to, but their prices are super cheap. So for the price, I’m getting exactly what I’m paying for. It’s located on Holcombe in between Kirby and Greenbriar. It’s very convenient and never crowded. They also have delivery. And the delivery service is very quick. If you don’t want to spend a lot and want fairly decent sushi check this place out. They’re actually cheaper than the supermarket.

This place was great! Got the Sea if Love and 212 rolls and a glass of Kendal Jackson Chardoney, it was delicious!!! Not sure why this place was not crowded but it was 8:30 on a Wed night. We will definitely be back.

There are some really positive things about Sushi Rock. For example, you can order 3 rolls and have your check still be under $ 10. As a college student, that is a very big plus in my big, and it is the reason I keep coming back. Also, the waitstaff there is incredibly helpful and friendly, and if you come enough like I do, they even start to recognize you and remember your order. However, the food at Sushi Rock is hit or miss. Sometimes my rolls look beautiful, but occasionally they are falling apart. The sushi here sometimes has a questionable look, and the tuna pieces are occasionally tough and hard to bite through. Despite this, Sushi Rock is one of my most frequented restaurants because it is so dang cheap and the people are so dang nice. I recommend trying it out if you are in the mood for sushi and on a budget.
