I hate moving. I hate moving during the summer. So… I had to move from one apartment to another because I didn’t want to renew my lease at the complex I was currently at. I’ll save this review for another time. So instead of paying an arm and a leg for a moving company I just decided to get a U-Haul and a couple of friends to help me move. I didn’t have that much stuff(so I thought). But I just needed the U-Haul for the furniture that I did have. I sold almost all my furniture so I really didn’t have too many bigger pieces of furniture requiring a big U-Haul or moving company. Just a small U-Haul… no big deal. So I reserved a truck online. I instantly received a text message telling me to call to confirm the time of the rental. I called and confirmed the time. So far… everything was great. Moving day came and I went to pick up the truck. The rental was 19.99 and they tally an estimated price based on 50 miles($ 1 per mile). You also have the option to get insurance. Everything was still great at this point. I moved, it was hotter than hell, and I needed a shower. I returned the truck. The employee who checked me out asked me if I had driven 200 miles. What? It was only 16 miles from my apartment to the new apartment so that’s about 32 miles round trip. Then there’s the distance to and from the U-Haul Center. It couldn’t have been more than 40 miles total. Where did this 200 miles come from? Apparently, before you leave the lot, you have to inspect the truck for any damages. A U-Haul employee follows you to check the mileage. So I thought. Apparently this guy never did that so now I’m told I’m responsible for 200 miles. My rental period for the truck was 8 hours and I only used 4. There’s no way I drove 200 miles and the guy knew that. He was also telling me how incompetent the new manager was, which in my opinion is very unprofessional to say something like that in front of customers. He ended up only charging me the estimate of 50 miles, even though I was no where near that. But at least I wasn’t going to be responsible for 200. That was nice of him. So be warned. If you rent a truck from this location, make damn sure you document the mileage and make sure they document the mileage in their system.
