Pemberton Bait & Tackle

This place sucks. I have never had any worse service. I waited 45 minutes with one person in front of me and then was ignored for another 10 mins to be told at 10:45 that it was 11 (which it was not) and that they were serving lunch. I will never go to this place again, someone really should call the board of health place is filthy. I’m only giving one star because zero isn’t an option

BREAKFAST REVIEW: Last day of Nantasket vacation, needed a great breakfast for the long trip home… my landlord at the rental, a lifelong resident of Hull recommended Pemberton B & T for a great filling breakfast at a good price. He was right, very glad we went. I remember some of my best breakfasts were at bait and tackle places in S. Fla. This place has got great local color, a great view of the harbor and picnic tables outdoors for summer dining. The omelettes we ordered were freaking stuffed with all the different ingredients we’d ordered. Even my daughters with their discriminating tastes, were floored by them as well as the hash browns and home fries. You know it’s good, also, when you see the local fishermen and the cops (who know where the good food is) dining here. Even though I stayed clear on the other side of Hull, I’d definitely come here again for breakfast.

We had lunch here while driving around Hull. It’s almost at the end of the road. It’s a nice place to sit outside, have a bite to eat and watch the boats come and go through the harbor. It’s a bait and tackle store, so don’t expect a 5-​star meal. It was pretty good though. We both had fish sandwiches.

GREASY SPOON ALERT!
I loooove the Gut. I love the fact that it’s a bait and tackle shop and I’m reviewing them for their food, and — no — I have nothing to say about worms.
No one will likely ever go to the Gut if they visit Nantasket Beach because it’s on the very end of Hull, the very toe in the boot of the peninsula, opposite the beach. But they should if they get a chance. Across the street from Hull High, I’m sure they get their share of students, commuters who take the boat to Boston, cops (always cops, why is that?), fishermen, and guys who work with their hands, some of whom happen to be very loud complainers about city hall this, union that.
Anyway, it’s the greasy Hull McBagel and McMuffin that I want to praise. Prior to the Gut, I never ate an egg on a bagel. Yes, I like bagels and english muffins. Love eggs. The two never met up in my breakfast until my uncle forced a Gut mcbagel on me. Oh my lord. The most perfect amount of buttery crisp edges on the bagel (I guess they grill it first?) and then the egg and cheese. It tastes exactly perfectly like it should. It tastes better than it should. I don’t know what they do but their method of cooking it beats anything anywhere else.
I am sitting here in wintertime, upset over the Gut being closed for the season (they’re literally gone fishing in Florida at wintertime) because there’s nothing like a Sunday morning with the one of their sandwiches. You walk in, place your order, friendly people, super efficient, very clean. You go there on a summer morning, and there is nothing better. You get your sandwich, you sit outside on their bench and check out the incredible view of the harbor island that’s a spit away (is that George’s Island?). The interior is filled with memorabilia of Nantasket Beach from way back, including the requisite Kennedy stuff (the Fitzgerald mansion isn’t far from the Gut), and it’s corny. I’m not rating it for the interior, or the political punditry offered by other customers, or anything other than the aforementioned sandwiches.
And be warned: don’t order anything else other than the mcbagel or mcmuffin or the lobsta.

The worst. $ 18.25 for a small clams. It was like a half order of a small. Greasy. Small bellies with some even without bellies. Really bad

This is within walking distance of my house so I had to walk over for breakfast one weekend. The food was delicious, cheap, and the guy behind the counter is a real riot! Over the loud speaker, «Number 52… oh, that’s the guy in the boat… with the dog… ruff ruff!!! Ruff ruff!!»

Yes, at the Pemberton Bait & Tackle Shop adjacent to Hull High School on the very farthest reaches of Hul/​Nantasket, you can double up on freshly steamed local lobbers! Let me tell you, was I psyched to see this sign as my boyfriend Dave and I curiously drove around the neighborhood after we were forced off Nantasket Beach when high tide washed out the beach very quickly.
The shop serves mostly beach faire: burgers, dogs, clam baskets, crab rolls, onion rings, and buh buh baaahhhh local LOBSTER on the cheap. It’s a shack right on the water, they cook you your crawley’s on the spot in a very strange steaming oven/​microwave thinger (which did a fantastic job in under 10 minutes by the way). You eat outside at picnic tables and you’re allowed to make a mess. Lobsters are served with butter, fries, and potato salad (not ultra fancy, but for $ 17 no one’s judging this dinner). Just be aware, they’ll send you «out back» to take your lobster order versus just ordering at the snack window, and you’ll wonder why, but no need to worry about that.
