STOPWHATYOU’REDOINGANDLISTEN! Once you hear these six words, you know that you are in for an evening of always entertaining team trivia with the guys and gals from Pop Quiz Trivia(the artist formerly known as OC Pop Quiz). In the fall of 2013, Pop Quiz Trivia started at Kelly’s Korner Tavern in Placentia(they’ve been around longer than that tho) and we happend to be there on one of their first nights. At first, we were mildly annoyed by the host(sorry, Dougie) because he was interrupting our beer drinking with his trivia game. After initially declining to play in the first round, we quickly realized that we knew many of the answers that he was looking for. We entered the game in the second round and before we realized it, a trivia team monster was born. Typically, Pop Quiz Trivia’s games consist of six rounds of team trivia play. Rounds 1 and 6 ususally consist of six one point questions and one bonus question. If you are lucky enough to get bonus question correct, you will have the opportunity to roll the bonus dice(or die if you prefer). The result of your roll could get your team beers purchased by the host, the opportunity to win more points, or the opportunity to steal a point from another team. Rounds 2 is typically a 10 point round that centers on one specific topic. You may have identify nine movies based on a brief plot description and then your 10th point is earned by determining what is the common thread with all nine movies. Round 3 is usually a nine point round with one bonus question. There are only three questions in the round but each question has three opportunities for you to score points. Round 4 is the picture round where you have to identify the object in the picture. It can be harder than it sounds. Round 5 is the most hated round of the game — the Who Am I round. In this round, you get five questions to identify someone that is truly a household name. After each question is asked, the amount of points that you can receive decreases by two. Also, once you turn in your answer, you can not change your answer and if you are incorrect — NOPOINTSFORYOU!(There is nothing more depressing than pulling the trigger too early and missing out on all points for this round). Here’s a little known tip for this round. If you turn in your answer BEFORE any of the clues are read and you are correct, you will earn 20 points. Good luck with that! Also in rounds 1 and 6, there is the opportunity to make a double or nothing wager. If you believe you have all six questions answered correctly, you can check the double or nothing box earn 12 points for a perfect round. If you have one question wrong though, you get a goose egg for that round and it will be difficult to come back from that. The host will review the standings after each round so you’ll know how your competition is doing. At the conclusion of the game, prizes are awarded to the top three teams. What these prizes are truly depends on what location you are playing at. It could be cash, it could be a percentage off of your tab, or it could be a gift card for future visit to the establishment that you are playing at. The games are quite spirited. Rivalries definitely develop but so have some friendships with people that otherwise you probably wouldn’t have chatted with. In order to be successful at this game, you do have to carefully consider how you construct your team. It would be difficult to be successful at this game without have an effective balance of both genders and a variety of ages on your team. This isn’t just about sports, movies, and history. There is going to be a question about Project Runway on here so be sure your team can«make it work.» Our team has played at Kelly’s, Slater’s 50/50, C4, and The Post. We don’t always win but it is always a good time. Because we’ve been to a number of their locations, we’ve seen almost all of the hosts do there thing. Each one of them brings something different to the game and makes it their own. If you are looking for something different to do during the week, check out the closest Pop Quiz Trivia location to you. It is a fun way to hang out with your friends on a school night.

It started out innocently enough and then shit got real when Harry Potter themed games rolled around last year. Since then, my friends and I pop by their different locations throughout OC to humble ourselves. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Doug has always been our MC and he’s a pretty cool dude who will buy you beers if you roll the right number on the die. The subject of the questions really run the gamut here from games of Olympics past to ID that despot, so don’t bother«studying.»

OC PopQuiz is awesome. We had a company get together at the Slater’s 50⁄50 in Anaheim that I organized; I noticed that the restaurant did trivia nights on Wednesdays and asked if we could have trivia at our event on a Thursday. The manager at Slater’s put me in contact with OC PopQuiz and we were able to arrange a fun night for our staff. There was a good variety of questions and the staff had a great time. Thanks OC PopQuiz for helping us out!

They run the game at a few different places, I’ve been attending the one hosted by Nick at Slater’s 50⁄50 in Huntington Beach on Wednesday nights 9pm. It’s about 6 rounds or so and just over 2 hours long. Your dinner party(although you don’t have to eat to play) is your team. People come up with funny team names. There is a nightly prize but points are added up for the month as well for a grand prize. It’s mostly general knowledge type questions with a slant towards sports, pop culture, history. There’s bonus questions too which gives your team a chance to win a free pitcher of beer. There’s usually a picture identification round and sometimes an audio round where you have to guess the song snippets. Also, no phones allowed during gameplay.

Happy joy good time at trivia, they do trivia around orange county, ive been to the orange dog on Sundays, and the long board on Monday, brix on Tuesday and slaters 50⁄50 on Wednesday, i believe they have like 3 more locations that they do trivia at so always a good time with these guys. the host will keep you on your feet with each round being different. there is 3 people who do the hosting 1 or two at each location, I think there names are doug, niki and erica They all bring a different vibe to each trivia which keeps the fun fresh for me. they also have monthly team cash prizes at most locations as well as nightly prizes, get on niki’s good side he will buy you a pitcher. Many places do trivia but the people that run the show at OcPopquiz make them the best.

Every year my division at Quiksilver hosts a team building event for one of our major accounts. This year, we wanted to do something a little different and agreed on a Trivia Night! After Googling Bar Trivia, I came across OC Pop Quiz. Their Unilocal reviews were great so we decided to have them host our event. The host Nick booked a back room at Slater’s 50⁄50 for our group. He helped us plan our menu and was extremely informative and accommodating with all of our requests. He wasn’t even annoyed when half of our team showed up 30 minutes late or when we got really rowdy. The pace of the game was perfect. The entire event lasted about 2 ½ hours and there where about 6 rounds. Each round was completely different. The questions included topics like movies, history, theme songs, iPhone Apps, and more! It never got boring. Plus… they handed out prizes at the end!!! Nick was very professional, but also funny as he asked all the questions. We all had the best time and I HIGHLY recommend them to host your next event.

I’ve been going to OC PopQuiz at Slater’s 50⁄50 for a few weeks now with my friends and it’s sooo much fun! They have different types of rounds such as general knowledge, music, pictures, and guess who type stuff. The hosts Doug and Niki are super cool and keep it fun and entertaining. It gets addicting and I know my friends and I will keep showing up :) California Apples/Quadruple or Negative
