Five stars for the decades of experience and the views into Huntington’s past. He is a unique individual individual and he closed recently. I peeked in the window and it looked like he was out for coffee. With the shutting of his front door both real and symbolic I see that time indeed does march on. Goodbye Neil, Godspeed on your journeys. You are missed.

My man Neil the barber is almost like an uncle to me. He was my first barber when I originally moved to Huntington at the age of 3. Now, he still cuts my hair, almost 30 years later. Incredibly, nothing has changed in his barber shop: The hat collection, the photos of his customers as children, the TV from 1967, and most importantly… NEIL. Even if I am in town and do not get a haircut, I still make a point to go stop in and say hello. Neil’s Barber Shop is an enduring Huntington institution.
