The volunteers were great and helpful! Yes you read right the place is run by volunteers. It is a great historical site and bring back a lot if memories. Items are unique and they are one of a kind supporting artists all over the country. Loved everything about the store. Don’t forget to donate even if you don’t buy anything to keep this gem alive.

Harrison Brothers is great. They are a historical landmark, and there is a cool mix of original merchandise and higher-end home and personal care items. It’s worth a walk-through just to see the architecture and floor-to-ceiling walls of antique inventory and Huntsville history. The staff is very warm and attentive; I was surprised to learn that they are all volunteers and the proceeds from Harrison Brothers goes to keep it alive and maintained. I purchased five small items; when I got home(over an hour away) my mother-in-law wanted a set of them, too. When I called to see if they could ship a dozen of them to me, there was no problem at all. I was as warmly received and attended as I had been at the store, and about a week later I had the goods in my hand. Not too shabby for a place that isn’t typically mail-order oriented. They were happy to accommodate, and I’ll be happy to support them with my dollars in the future!

Harrison Brothers Hardware is a really neat little shop located in downtown Huntsville across from the courthouse. It’s jam packed with all kinds of eclectic trinkets, gifts and souvenirs. I very much enjoyed just meandering the old hardware store. Not very much is available anymore, by means of actual hardware. Through the years, it’s been replaced with food items, cooking books and gadgets and some great local art. Much of the nostalgia remains as part of the décor, including the old cash register, which I was surprised to discover still worked. The cashier’s response to my surprise was simply, «Well of course it does! That’s where we keep our money!» I learned that the store is actually a historical landmark and all the workers are actually volunteers. Profits go back into the store to keep it up and running. I will definitely be back. It would be a good place to find something for the person who ‘has everything’. It will also be a fun place to take an out of town guest. It’s even a great place to just window shop.

Wow, this place is WAY impressive. It’s like time tripping, because you’re in an original hardware store from 1915 or so, with original shelving, floors, etc. The open elevator is used as display space, the hardware bins contain kewl antiquish merchandise, and the ancient giant manual cash register still works, and is used to ring up your purchases. This feels like the real deal, kinda like what Cracker Barrel restaurants and retail stores try to be. Harrison Brothers gets it right, probably because they are actually a non-profit.
