If you smoke, this is a place for you. If you don’t smoke, you’ll leave here smoking. Drinks were expensive. Was not able to keep a tab open because my bartender was leaving early. So I had to cash out my tab. And they don’t take AMEX. This is 2016 right?

We went to Maggie Meyer’s for trivia on Thursday night. There weren’t enough people around for them to conduct trivia, but it was an enjoyable experience nonetheless. Our orders were taken by the bartender, who seemed to be running the whole place by himself. There was a large amount of people there for just one person, but he handled it very professionally and had a kind and pleasant demeanor. The food was surprisingly good — much better than traditional bar food. We had pretzel bites as an app, and they tasted like a sort of savory beignet with strong mustard dipping sauce. We also split the Reuben, which got very high marks. It was served with hash-style potatoes that were delicious, crispy and with faint herb flavors. I had a personal pepperoni pizza. Although a little greasy and perhaps slightly light on the cheese, the crust was delicious and crunchy, just how I like it. The pepperoni was good, too, and the crust was somewhere between thick and thin. Only one downside: it is a smoking establishment. We had read that most of the time the smoke isn’t too thick, but that wasn’t the case. We were surrounded by the other patrons, smoking cigarettes and even a cigar. We all reeked afterwards. Although we knew that going in and I can’t get mad about something I was warned about, I still wish the smoke could have been a little thinner.

Great staff. Surprised at the smell of smoke when we walked in(don’t do bars really). But it was very tolerable. Got the loaded house fries. It is potato cubes that are delicious. My guy got the fish and chips. Fish was really good. Malt vinegar made it pop. Got a seasonal dessert of pecan pie. Personal serving is homemade.

This is my favorite place to hang out! After going just once the bartenders will remember your name and drink. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. They have rotating beers on draft, and Nicole can always come up with an amazing cocktail on the spot if you don’t know what you want. The food here is phenomenal, as well. I highly recommend this place to anyone.

I wandered in on one of the«worst day of your life» days just to grab a beer. Spent 2 hours laughing with Nicole and the cook swapping funny stories, and it has been my favorite watering hole since. The bar has a laid back atmosphere, an incredible selection of bottled and draft beers, a huge assortment of whiskey, and a full bar of all your favorites. The menu is completely from scratch, and the friends that I brought in had only one complaint, «more.» When the bar is packed, some patience is required, It is a large space, and there are a lot of people trying to get the bartenders attention, but your drink will arrive with a smile. The staff is more like a big family, and often when things get busy they get goofy to keep people entertained while they are waiting. It’s the kind of place that if you come back a couple times you might just wind up with a nickname, and they will almost definitely remember what you drink order. And then there is nerd night. Ever have one of those days you just want to sit around playing video games, but you wish you knew more people who wanted to do the same? Maybe have a couple beers while you are at it? Nerd Night. Several customers bring console games to hook up to the bar tvs, and play classic nes, super nes, and even some new console games. It frequently turns into a Super Smash Brothers tournament, but its a great time to come hang out with people who like the same geeky stuff you do. Its probably the only bar I’ve ever been to where someone said«so star wars?» and the entire bar erupted into a huge conversation of the greatness and failures of the star wars franchise. Its also the only bar I’ve ever wound up discussing rocket science in. Between the awesome staff, the great food, and the fantastic environment this is easily my favorite bar in Huntsville.

Large and spacious. During lunch, even as a smoking establishment, the smoke smell was very underwhelming. Food is outstanding-highly recommend the burger, Guinness stew, and fish and chips. Bread is baked in house. Great place if you enjoy darts or live music!

After choosing Maggie’s for my b’day outing with a couple of friends, I can say I ‘ve been here 4 times. It’s really good food! House made breads, tartar sauce, fresh cooked cod(fish and chips) with a delicious batter, and cooked so the fish is fresh and succulent and not at all dry! Like the roasted potatoes that come with the fish and«chips.» Large selection of whiskeys and TVs abound. The back room has pool tables and there is a video golf game(YAY!). A couple of the dishes were not stellar, but maybe it was an off day. The fried pickle app(I believe it was just the sauce) had an odd cinnamon flavor. the pretzel bites with Dijon mustard sauce were solid! BF liked her Guinness Beer Stew. I’d like to try the Reuben next! Although house made, food arrives rather quickly especially during my one lunch experience. Their iced tea is good, too, and the kind bartender offered me a «to go» cup, which is always a nice touch! This building has been a restaurant/bar since at least 1985, so it’s not brand new. However, they have freshened it up substantially! The restrooms are super nice now, esp. compared to «back when,» and there is a cozy sofa + comfy chair area to the right as you walk in. A small stage is to your(sharp) right upon entering, and there are tons of 4 tops with not-quite-as-comfy-as-I’d-like chairs in the restaurant and in the bar area. UAH professors and students apparently are the day time regulars. They have team trivia on Thursday nights and a variety of live entertainment and I think, a DJ. Yes, it is smoking-friendly, but it’s a fairly good sized place, and not many people smoke in there, so my non-smoking companions did not have a problem with it. Full bar, underwhelming wine selection, but maybe the Irish don’t care for wine. Bar shelves stocked to the hilt with liquors and good beer selection, if I recall correctly(friend had beer). The reason I didn’t give 5 stars is the tiny wine selection, but that’s a personal preference, I believe they offer chardonnay and maybe, a merlot. Period. No choices in labels, or anything. But, at least they do offer wine! Local place, off the beaten path. I especially enjoyed a quick lunch there while taking a training class at UAH. In and out in maybe 25 minutes, fish and chips(have I mentioned that their fish and chips is a really good dish?!) were excellent, as is the iced tea, and the service is attentive. ALL of that goodness for $ 7.00(as the Friday daily special). It’s by harbor Freight and Off Campus bookstore, just off University Drive west of University and Jordan Lane. Accessible also by Holmes Avenue. You’re welcome!

The wife and I came here for lunch on a Friday. This new place deserves a bigger lunch crowd. We were the only ones at a table, although there were a half dozen customers at the bar, engaged on conversation. We split an order of Fish & Chips. My wife really liked the fried potatoes. Our young green-haired waitress was friendly, and took good care of us. I think she said her name is Julie. The food is very good. It comes out kind of slow, as it is prepared to order. This improves the quality. I think it will be worth coming back to try some more items. My wife also ordered a dessert that we split. It was a small mason jar with ice cream, warm caramel, and pralines or some such. The atmosphere had somewhat subdued lighting, and several TVs on with the sound off. We generally avoid pIaces with smokers, but I didn’t notice anyone smoking at lunchtime. It might also be worth coming back to be served by Julie again.
