The food is pretty good. At least the jambalaya was a solid 4 stars. Good size bowl, lots of shrimp sausage and chicken. Could have used a little more rice. Beer selection is world class. Inside and porch are nice place to hang. Good service.

They are in the process of remodeling the inside but it doesn’t bother the beer drinking. This is a great place is have a beer and they have it all! I would have given them 5 stars but the food is middle of the road. But who really goes there to eat? With it being Fall, you can’t go wrong being outside which is my favorite place to be while having a beer. Service is good and the servers are very knowledgeable about their products. Let’ them pick the beer for you, you can’t go wrong.

The Nook is a great divey type pub off Bob Wallace with a great beer selection and delicious food. The bar area is open with an outdoor porch. When entering, it feels like you’re entering a run down country club reclaimed by a mad beer scientist. Kegs are stashed in every nook(excuse the pun) to achieve the impressive array of beer on tap. Out the back, there is a broad covered wooden patio to enjoy a cool summer evening or pleasant lunch(once the temperatures die down a bit). The menu is tiny, but delicious. It’s primary focus is cajun. I had the combo platter with Shellfish Étouffée and Jambalaya — both were outstanding. They also appear to have themed nights, and our group was sad to have missed German cooking Tuesday. My biggest criticism of the pub was their absolutely terrible Pilsner Urquell on draft. They had no problem getting me a new one, but it appeared as if they thought that it was permanently bad. If you have a beer which you think is terrible on draft, and it is consistently bad, then you need to not sell it. Moreover, I(along with the others at the table) could easily tell that the beer was infected. If they think that this is a steady state taste, then they need to check with their supplier. Pilsner Urquell, when fresh, is one of my favorite beers, so I was particularly disappointed when this pint turned out so poorly. To their credit, they treated me well and gave me a pint of a different drink for free, but a beer pub needs to make sure that their beer is good consistently. Overall, I’d absolutely recommend returning to Nook. The food is well worth the journey, and the beer is(mostly) very high quality.

So, I like to think of myself as a flavorist. After living in Europe for 11 years, my palate for beer flavor is acute. When going out I usually don’t drink beer unless it is at home(Detroit), because the beer du jour has as much taste as infused farts. So a friend tells me about this hole in the wall called the Nook. They say that if I can’t find a beer there I like, I am crazy. Hellbent with all the passion of a Wolverine, I drive until I see the big curbside sign that says The Nook. I see a little grey, unassuming building with a parking lot. I storm in there, and I get greeted by a lady with a big a on her shirt and hat and a smile as big as the a. She tells me her name is Beverly and asked had I been there, to which I said no. While looking around the building, I see renovation is taking place, and there is a smiling codger to the left drinking what I believe is a Porter. A wash of anticipation comes over me as I get the lists of beer they have: one list for draft, one for large bottles, one for bottles. i would point estimate about 500 plus. And the beer is from all over the place; from local to other areas of the world. Overwhelmed, I looked at Beverly and said,” you pick one for me”. She said to me that I looked like a Stout drinker(and I am), so I should have the Samuel Smith Chocolate Stout(and it is organic). Hmmm… I will try it. It was amazing! I told her I loved the way that she could pick a beer so acutely for me, and she quippingly retorted, «I have had a lot of practice». I ended up sipping a couple of different beer that night, but not before ordering a meal(as this was German night). Ziguenerschnitzel mit Bratkartoffeln und Salat(oops sorry, my Deutsch came out there for a second: pork cutlet with mushroom gravy and roasted potatoes and salad). Made by Monika’s recipie(the resident Frau), I was taken back to sitting in Wackernheim on a sunny day… I fell in love with The Nook. And that codger, you ask? He came over and started talking to me about this and that. Really down to Earth guy. We must have talked for hours about everything from politics to bailing wire. Every once in a while I would look at the floor and catch a glimpse of Gus khaki shorts, black socks, and sandals and snicker. I still go to the Nook every chance I get to get a flashback to my days in Deutschland and at home. So if you want a plethora of choices of beers, some good food in a pub style place the Nook is where you go. And while you are there say hello to the guy in the shorts and sandals for me. After all, Mr. Allen is the owner, and he loves a good talk.

This place was recommended to me by a friend, as he knows the lay of the land in Huntsville pretty well. I could not have been more delighted by my visit. What was originally planned to be a quick in and out turned into a pleasant evening. First off: the appearance. The place is very easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. Plenty of parking when I went(but that’s at around 8pm local). The place has a very unassuming exterior, and the interior is plain and simple, but that’s not a bad thing. The outside, though… sit outside if the weather is good and seating is available. You will not regret it. I parked myself in one the corners, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Not much ambient noise to get in the way of conversation, and there was conversation aplenty. The drinks. This place is first and foremost known for the sheer amount of tasty adult beverages they have on tap. They also have On a whim, I tried out this Belgian Lambic while I was there. Pleasantly surprised by that. I’m not really much of a beer drinker myself, but they do have a small selection of liquors as well. There was a bottle of Laphroaig 10 year staring at me, so I knew I was in a good place. The menu. Being that this place is primarily a place to get drinks and enjoy them(read: no chugging allowed even if they don’t say it) with company, the menu is tailored to that effect. I tried out their Shellfish Étouffée and their Chicago Dog. Both were phenomenal. This was a grand time. Next time I’m in Huntsville, I plan to pay this place another visit.
