I am not normally one to eat gluten free but this place really shook my view on eating gluten free and healthier. The egg sandwich on paleo bread was fantastic and the coffee is fresh brewed and delicious. Has very charming décor and the service is extremely friendly. Unfortunately since I was only passing through town I won’t be able to return very soon. I will however be much more open to gluten free and paleo options in the future. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place for breakfast and baked goods.

The cranberry bread is amazing and chewy and soft. Love love love The chocolate chip cookies weren’t loved by my non-gf nephews, but still eaten. Just a reminder on the future that I’ll buy them much cheaper cookies! LOL Every time i visit my sister in Huntsville i make her drive me here to pick up goodies. So glad it’s here!

Feeding a family of four is certainly not free, and, with concerns about certain ingredients, we find our meal bill can get HIGH and cause anxiety — who knows what is in that burger? I suffer from a gluten and dairy intolerance, and I have to limit sugars. I have a child on the spectrum who benefits behaviorally when she avoids the same foods. So, even if eating can’t be financially free, I can relax mentally now when we want a meal out. Mason Dixon’s Story In 2013, Mason Dixon came on the scene as Alabama’s first dedicated gluten and wheat free bakery. They also offer a plethora of options that exclude other allergens like grain, sugar, dairy, and eggs. Need a special order? They can do it! Their initial offerings were breads, rolls, cakes, biscuits, cupcakes, cakes, cookies, cake pops, plummond bars, granola… should I keep going? Well, they did. Just this year, they opened their bistro located at 2358 Whitesburg Drive at the corner of Whitesburg and Bob Wallace. They now offer a full host of breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, bakery, and special order options along with pre-order prepared meals. You can also find them offering up many delicious offerings at our local farmer’s markets. It is finally possible for me to have my cake, and eat it too. Ordering & Big Groups Don’t be shy. Walk right on it and up to the counter. They will take your order for breakfast, lunch, snack or other, and they will help you find the right seating if you plan to stay for your meal. Have a big crowd(10 – 12)? Call ahead for their family room with large barn table and benches. There is no cost to reserve the space! Whether you just want a cupcake or meals for the week, they can help. Mason Dixon’s Menu I’ve had everything at this point. I highly recommend their breakfast biscuits and muffins, the meatball sammie, the strawberry cupcake, the chicken avocado salad, the bacon wrapped dates, the oxtail, the fish and chips… okay…have it all. You can without guilt. Peruse the menu here. Gluten-Free That Won’t Break the Bank Concerned about price? Doesn’t it cost MORE to eat this way? Not really. My family of 4 had a meatball sammie, a chicken, apple brie sandwich, a grilled cheese with popcorn, a hot dog sandwich with popcorn, beverages, a Caesar salad, and cupcakes for $ 40. We would have spent at least that anywhere else, and wouldn’t have been attentive to our particular food needs. Can it get any better? This cozy space offers a single restroom and a family restroom with changing table. High chairs are easily accessible, and,(this totally gets a drumroll), there is an outside patio with tables and chairs and comfy, comfy couches overlooking the garden and huge side yard. Bring a book or a friend or both, grab some food, and let the kids play, play, play while you catch up. Mason Dixon is so welcoming and warm for families, and they are paying attention to tender tummies. I have to say, hands down, that this is my favorite Huntsville eatery. Went here in search of a good gluten free cupcake. It was so dry not even my kids would eat after they saw my reaction. It may have just been over cooked so I will give them another try in hopes that it is better

Ate lunch here with my husband and got two sandwiches, a water, and lemonade for a grand total of $ 22(including tax). You’d think at that price these would be close to one of the best sandwiches we’ve ever had. My biggest gripe is that the sandwiches came with no sides and they were tiny. Just because something is healthy and gluten-free doesn’t mean it’s acceptable to charge that ridiculous amount for a ridiculously mediocre tiny sandwich. Very disappointed.

Atmosphere: 4*, love their little garden-y, outdoor, patio area. Service: 3.5*, one lady ran back and forth from kitchen to front, granted we were the only 2 there. Cupcake: 3*, expensive, small and it’s okay. I guess they use the trendy and hipstery ingredients. It didn’t taste any better or worse. It wasn’t good enough for the price though. Granted no huge dallop of topping, but whatever right amount it had, it wasn’t right-good enough to be desire more. Their red velvet cupcake was extremely red, which can’t be all natural(i.e. food coloring must be used), so hmmm… Anyways, it was moist so good enough I suppose :)

The best gluten free and paleo friendly food! I recently brought home some brownies, we had friends in town visiting and my friends husband(who is not the biggest fan of gluten free foods) ate the brownie in seconds! When he was all through he could not believe that it was gluten free. I must say, I would choose one of their desserts over any gluten filled item. Love this shop for sitting and relaxing or just dropping in to grab a few goodies!

Disappointed with customer service here. We made considerable effort to dine here. Arrived around 2:05 pm on 15 August ready to try some potentially good food. At the register, we were told lunch was over and only sides and salads available. Nothing on the lunch menu or outdoor chalk board indicates lunch hrs. The only reason I knew of this place was Huntsville restaurant week website. Why would a restaurant not try to accommodate people who are there for lunch for a sandwich and desert instead of pushing them away? Lunch menu items such as sandwiches, hamburgers and hotdogs are not that difficult to make. Ate at bonefish instead where I don’t have to worry about not being able to eat an entre because I am have not ordered before 2pm.

Huntsville is starved for places like this. This is located in an old house(which was formerly a walk in clinic.) The person taking orders was kind and patient with us new visitors. I had the portobello sandwich and my husband had a chicken sandwich. He didn’t care for the heaviness of the bread, but It didn’t bother me in the least. It’s a bit expected when eating gluten free. The buffalo cauliflower was to die for. It’s healthy eating without losing the flavor which I feel so many places do. I highly recommend this place and hope they experience incredible success. They offer meal plans picked up every other day if you’re paleo or just want set gluten free or vegan food. It’s not gross frozen food meals but still fresh, delicious meals the easy way.

Great little restaurant/bakery. It’s in a tiny house that is decorated so cutely. We had the lamb tostadas and avocado chicken salad, both were super tasty and seasoned just right. We ended the meal with cupcakes and coffee. All in all… A great lunch!

So happy to have a gluten friendly ‘safe place’! I know that when I eat here, I do not have to worry about cross contamination or if the staff really understands that gluten will make me ill. Everyone has always been super friendly and every dish I have eaten(including a cupcake or two) has been yummy! I am so thankful to have the MD Bakery in Huntsville!

I’m so glad somewhere like this opened in Huntsville. I don’t eat any refined sugar or white flour, so having a place with a lot of options that fit within my food plan is a hard thing to do, but at Mason Dixon I have plenty of choices. My first time visiting the bakery was a little over a month ago and I’ve been there to eat almost every week since. I’ve only been for lunch and every time I’ve gotten the chicken and Brie sandwich. It comes on house-made cranberry bread, with apples and fig jam, and is absolutely delicious. On the side I get the quinoa salad, which has perfectly caramelized pecans on top. Their assortment of cupcakes and other baked goods is of course great. Every day there are several desserts available that are paleo-friendly(no refined sugar, no grain) — my favorites have been the German chocolate cupcake and the Dixie cup. I’ve tried making paleo desserts at home and it did NOT go well, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that the cupcakes here are amazing! Mason Dixon is doing a great job of offering healthier food that’s also delicious.
