This New York Times article tells me all I need or want to know about this awful place:

OVERALL: Redstone Village Grandview Gardens(Assisted Living) is not a very good choice for a place to live. STAFF: They are always short staffed. TURNOVER: The turn over rate is so fast for the nurses that it makes your head swim. MANAGEMENT: It is one of the most corrupt places to work at. The corruption starts from the top down at this facility. ABILITYTOGET A CALLBACKFROM A NURSEABOUT A RESIDENT: The receptionist rately knows what is going on or what extension to connect you to. You can barely EVER get a person to answer the phone after 5pm or get a nurse to call you back about a current resident. It could be days or never to get a phone call back after a verbal message was left about an urgent matter. FOOD: You can ask any of the residents if they like the food– you will probably get a straight answer — no. At least a few times a week– residents food that they checked off and ordered a head of time gets lost in the shuffle, therefore, giving the resident something they didn’t want or order. ACTIVITIES: They score high for the amount of activities they provide for the residents. DECOR: Nice & clean. Rooms are small. LAUNDRY: Laundry service is provided. Residents Clothes somehow go missing and never found… Even though residents have there name written Inside each piece of clothing… And I don’t mean just a few pieces of clothes, I mean an entire wardrobe. Very Suspicious. PRICE: $$$$$ BOTTOMLINE: Sure the Assisted Living looks nice esthetically from the outside, but inside, its a screwed up place. Run!!!

I have a neighbor who is temporarily staying there for her physical therapy. I tried many times to call her tonight to see how she is doing. The people working there, at least at night, were not helpful at all. The receptionist didn’t seem to have a clue how to reach patients and she didn’t have a list or if she had one, didn’t consult it. The first time, she forwarded me to the wrong department. The second time, I called the physical therapy nurse who was, I guess, supposed to be on duty. No one answered even after twenty minute of ringing. I called back again, and this time not even the receptionist answered her phone. God forbid if someone had a real emergency, because they would never be able to reach anyone at this facility. Maybe this is a great place if you are staying there, but my impression is if you can’t reach anyone or find out anything when you call, then it makes me question what kind of service they might really be providing for their patients. I sure hope it is better than their effort putting us through to the person I’m calling.

This review is for the«Rehab Facility» I believe it is called Fairview. The Redstone Village«campus» is large and offers, as I understand it, various levels of care, from rehab, to assisted living to lesser and more intensive care. Super clean! The cleaning crew even disinfects the HVAC filters in the private rooms as well as spraying disinfectant on the carpet. Super friendly! All the staff from management to the housekeeping personnel were super-friendly and accommodating during my mom’s recent 20 day stay. I never met an unfriendly face/person upon numerous visits there, at all times of day. Super nice accommodations: The dining room is lovely! Super nice décor. Linen table cloths and wine/egg nog were available(go figure — maybe I need a knee replacement)! Mom was treated kindly, even when she was in pain and, naturally, grouchy and teary eyed, poor thing! The staff were knowledgeable, cooperative and went out of their way to ensure the utmost comfort for Mom. For«knee rehab» at least, which is what Mom was there for — the activity calendar did not really«jive» with her physical therapy schedule which was super-intensive. They also work with the patients regarding speech and memory. To get back to the activities offered, they include: bingo, various parties to honor those who are permanent residents, hand/arm massages, hair care services, and more. Two computers were available for resident’s use and the grounds are immaculate. The Christmas decorations were tasteful and a lovely touch. Do know that many things are extra costs, including a phone in the room(cell phone did the trick for mom), and wi fi is extra. I understand it is a Medicare only facility. And Mom said it was«like an act of Congress» to get a Coke, but she managed to obtain one or two during her stay. The inpatients/residents rave about the food, which is served either in the dining room or brought to your room. I would recommend those looking for an inpatient rehab center to consider Redstone, it is a lovely place and for first-time users of a facility like this, it was a really pleasant place to have Mom. They really do a good job. Hope to upload the many pictures I took there, soon, to give you an idea of what it is like.
