Based on the Unilocal great comments my wife and I decided to try this place. First of all, the«free» chips and salsa as shown on the opening page of the review are not free, but rather $ 1.50/serving(which most Mexican restaurants provide«free» for pre-meal appetizers). When I questioned the charge, the server went to the kitchen and returned saying they $ 1.50/serving as shown on the napkin holder. My wife had 2 tacos with rice and beans and rather than $ 1.79/taco(or $ 1.89/taco on the menu), the charge was $ 9.99! I had ordered the Torta Ahogada and rather than a «drenched» sandwich, it was served completely dry on a bun the consistency of a cheap hamburger bun with no sauces whatsoever. When I questioned the sandwich, the server brought a small, on the side, cup of «chipotle sauce». Total bill was $ 20.50 with only water to drink, definitely too much for this level of mediocre Mexican food. Upon returning to my home, I re-checked the Unilocal comments and found that many were 3 — 5 years old! We will not return.

Awesome street tacos! Cant beat the price and the guy at the counter is always nice when taking our order. Been here 3x already since visiting coachella. Always get street tacos and guac and chips!

The tacos here are pretty good. The reason I’m giving this place 3 stars is due to the amount of rice in the burritos. I’ve had burritos with a bit of rice, but not the whole damn burrito. I had ordered a Carne asada burrito. Most of it was rice! The prices are getting too high as well. The portions aren’t getting any larger, but the prices keep going up.

Taco craving? Feed your taco urges here! Ever since El Gallito closed, we’ve been searching for a place like this. We tried chicken tacos and a breakfast burrito. The server promptly delivered two large glasses of water, chips, and three different salsas. The tacos arrived with beans and rice. Smooth beans with excellent and complex flavors.. My breakfast burrito exceeded my expectations. Smokey chorizo, eggs, beans, and onions. All served in a hot flour tortilla. We’ll be back after visiting the gym for a few hours.(Leg day!)

I wanted street tacos and this place provided exactly what I wanted. I had 5 tacos, each a different meat. The Cabeza and chorizo were my favorite. Chicken was excellent also. I was a little disappointed in the Carne asada, but with all of the other flavors going on, I enjoyed the meal. Salsa was great. It can get a little pricey if you add sides, so next time I will just get tacos.

If there’s one thing the Coachella valley does well, it’s authentic Mexican food. Namely tacos. These tacos range the gamut from artesian tacos made with high falutin cuts of meat, to crap like del taco and Jack in the Box. Then you have the authentic masterpieces made at Taco’s Gonzales. Everything here is amazing, the pico de gallo, the flaky, chewy goodness of the tortillas, the amazing sweet, fruity, and savory flavors of the al pastor; all of it hit the spot perfectly. My new favorite tacos!

I was on a quest to find good tacos and I found them here. Even my fussy 5 year old asked for seconds. Lunch for under $ 15. It was wonderful!

I WOULDCOMETOINDIO, CAJUSTTOEATHERE. There’s probably absolutely nothing to do in this city, but Coachella and Tacos Gonzalez. Maybe I haven’t been to an authentic Mexican restaurant, but this is the SH*T. We found this bad boy on Unilocal and had a hard time finding the restaurant. We almost gave up, but finally saw it on our 4th time driving up and down that street. We ordered carne asada and al pastor tacos as well as the super quesadilla de carne asada. EVERYTHINGWASSOOGOOD — it was like an orgasm in my mouth in every. single. bite. Not only was the meat, side, top, was good, the tortilla was so FRESH! Now, you know it’s the SH*T if their tortillas are BOMB. I cant wait to come back just to eat here. + Great customer service, friendly staff + Chips and Salsa on da houzzz(while you wait for your food) + Accepts Credit Cards

This place is a must. Great tacos, great service — extremely friendly. The son helped served us(this is a family owned restaurant) and he was so polite and friendly. I can definitely see why this place is rated so high. Definitely worth it!

Delicious food and fantastic customer service! I came here last weekend because I was in town for Stagecoach. We wanted something affordable for lunch before entering the festival and this place had fantastic reviews on Unilocal. The parking lot had plenty of spaces too which was great. Upon entering we went to the cashier and were presented with menus. We looked them over and decided on getting tacos. I asked whether the guacamole they have is spicy and the cashier gave an honest answer of a little bit but its mainly for the flavoring. That was fantastic because I can’t handle spicy food and many times I am told it is not, yet it burns my mouth. I decided to order a large guacamole to accompany my tacos, because I figured if it was too spicy for me I could give it to my friends that accompanied me. Food came out within 2 minutes. I was completely astonished how fast it all was including the guacamole. I tried it and the guacamole was FANTASTIC! So were the tacos. I ordered all carne asada and they were great. The cashier kept coming by asking how everything was and if we wanted drink refills. The customer service was fantastic and I will definitely be coming back next time I am in town!

Easy menu and fast service for delicious food. I ordered the carne asada and my friend ordered a chorizo burrito. Both burritos were so tasty and fresh.

Whenever we’re in SoCal, we look forward to getting authentic Mexican fare. We usually hit up another taco place in Indio, but tried this because of the reviews on Unilocal.Yes, it’s a little spendier than the others — but it’s totally worth it. The tacos were delicious, just how you’d hope. Hubby had an al pastor quesadilla, which he loved, and I had one of each: al pastor, chorizo and carne asada tacos(in order with my fave first). The place was super clean and the people really helpful and friendly. Giving it four instead of five because the chips were just meh.

Great food! Tacos all around. Street size and we enjoyed the Al Pastor and Chorizo the best. Super friendly staff and super clean!!! This is a local place and we loved it.

This is definitely one of the smaller Mexican food locations that I have been to. The food is authentic and service is on point. I ordered the California Gonzalez Burrito, it was pretty good and the salsa was delicious. The rest of my party ordered the tacos and thought they were on point. The horchata is also very tasty and it definitely doesn’t have that powdery mix texture like others. Definitely coming back for more.

Tacos Gonzalez is a small place located on HWY111, the building sits back off the street so you really have to «look» to notice this place, with cars in the small lot you can easily drive right by this place … it’s just off the North/West corner of HWY111& Jackson. *(across from SHIELDS Dates) Yeah you know I wasn’t leaving this town without eating some TACOS… Gonzales has a nice menu and good selection of MEAT, the wife and I shared some food and here we go. Although they had a sign next to the table saying Chips $ 1.50 the waitress brought over chips at no charge and they have a variety of some good salsa’s! Super Quesadilla de Carne Asada($ 8.99) A large flour tortilla filled with Carne Asada, Cheese, and on the side Lettuce, Tomato, Sour Cream and Guacamole… it’s a large quesadilla with plenty of fillings unfortunately the carne was pretty bland, I expected much more 3-Stars Torta Ahogada($ 8.99) Your typical Guadalajara style torta ahogada done well… starting off the bread a(Birote Salado) NO not a Bolillo… filled with some Delicious Carnitas, man this was some good pig! the sauce/chili I’d say is medium heat at best, nice flavor just not hot, overall a good torta BUT my complaint would be they were heavy handed with the oregano which overpowered the other flavors. 4-Star Tacos — Tripas($ 2.09) Nice, Crisp and Delicious… enough said 5-Stars Al Pastor($ 1.79) While I didn’t see a Trompo here, they did get some good flavor. 4-Star Lengua($ 2.09) Maybe a bit crispier than your typical lengua but it was NOT lacking in flavor. 4.5-Stars Carne Asada($ 1.79) After the other tacos being so good this was a disappointment, not horrible just anemic and lacking flavor, looks as if the grill needed to be hotter or too much meat was cook and it steamed. 3-Stars

I was driving back from CA, and I needed something to eat. Indio is a decent sized city with lots of options. All of a sudden, I had a craving for some street tacos! It’s been awhile since I have had any, and when you get a hankering for something specific like that, you need to get them asap! I pulled up my Unilocal app and decided to come over here to Tacos Gonzalez. I arrived at 7pm(They are open until 8pm) and there were a few other guys in the shop eating. I studied the menu for a bit and decided on going with 3 carne asada tacos, 3 al pastor tacos, and a Jarritos tamarind to drink. My total was just under $ 14.00. I took a seat, the cashier brought me out some chips, salsas, limes and radishes. A few minutes later, my tacos were ready. Here is how they were… Carne Asada Street Tacos– The plate was set down in front of me, and it looked damn good! All the tacos were laid out in unison and it was a pretty sight to see. I loaded up my tacos with a mix of both red and green hot sauces, squeezed a bit of lime on them and then went to town. These tacos come in the super small corn tortillas(2 tortillas each taco). 2, maybe 3 bites each and they were done. The carne asada was very tender and tasted pretty good. I come from the land of great tacos(Tijuana/San Diego), and these were good but not great. They did fulfill my craving and I enjoyed them very much. If they were in SD/TJ, they would probably be 3 star tacos. Since they are in Indio, they get about a 4. Al Pastor Street Tacos– These ones I liked better than the carne asada. The meat had a nice smokey flavor to it and you could tell that it was well marinated. Same thing as the carne asada tacos. SD standards they would be about a 3, Indio they get a 4. Service was friendly, and the free chips and salsa was a nice touch. $ 13.75 is a tad steep though for the small quantity of meat on these tacos. A little guacamole would have been nice too. Like I said earlier though, they DID fulfill my craving and it was a perfect stop for a quick dinner on my journey home. If I was passing through Indio again, and a taco craving hit, I know I could count on Tacos Gonzalez to get me my fix!

Just moved to La Quinta, looking for my Mexican food spot and decided to make this my first stop. Food is good, loved the rice. The tacos are the small ones, loaded with meat but could use a bit more seasoning. The staff is super friendly and service is good. I will probably go again if I don’t find anything better.

I’ve been to this place dozens of times and always enjoyed it. Today, after a summer break, I came in and ate and enjoyed it until I got the bill. They now charge $ 1.50 for a little basket of chips that used to be free. There’s a sign on the table that says chips are $ 1.50 but I figured that was for asking for an additional basket. They just bring the first basket without asking if you want it. That’s nickel and dining your customers and no one likes that. I’ve brought friends and family here and recommended this place over and over again. Charging $ 1.50 for something you do not ask for is BS. Are they going to start charging for water next? I won’t be back.
