They have closed the Irvine location due to an upcoming renovation of the food court. The owner swears they will open up somewhere nearby soon. I hope it does. Until then, you can find their other location at the Anaheim Packing house. Too far for me to go at lunch though. Strangely, their web site makes no mention of the closing and has never referenced the Packing House location.

Mmm. Fish and Chips. A classic fryer staple. You know those boardwalk seafood shacks that sell fried everything? Yeah, the ones from Marina Del Rey to Portland, Maine. The ones that cost you $ 20+ for a plate of more fried dough pieces than seafood, and they call it Somecity Harbor Co? That’s NOT The Chippy. I found this place on Unilocal a few years ago and have come occasionally, today as I was on Reddit, I found out that today 10⁄23 would be the last day The Chippy would be open at it’s Michelson location(the Anaheim Packing District location is alive and well, except it’s parking, that’s always been a rotting cesspool). It turns out the food court area The Chippy is located in will be going under a huge renovation and sources say it is doubtful for a return once the building opens again. Let’s cut to the chase, Fish and Chips. On Friday’s you save a little on the 2 piece fish 1 piece shrimp combo. So, ideally that’s what I got for my last meal at this location. Add in some garlic fries and a bottle of water, delicious! The fish is battered perfectly and that’s probably what makes this place a winner. Not overly battered, or soggy, even minutes after the fish has left the fryer, you can still hear and feel that ever-satisfying CRUNCH as you chomp away at the flaky white protein. It really is an experience in it’s own. While, the meat itself did seem to be on the drier side, it was still delicious and this would probably be the only factor differing from the 4 to a 5 star, but only slightly, it doesn’t take away majorly from the dish at all. Dipped in an assortment of condiments, the sky is the limit for your fish to drown in. I am a personal huge fan and advocate of tartar sauce, so the extra-large chilled squeeze bottle they let you have at-will, is of course a huge plus for me. Alongside is tartar sauce’s best friends: malt vinegar, cocktail sauce, and ketchup. All self-serve and use as you please, which is always good for this kind of food. The sentiment is appreciated for those of us who love slathering fried foods in dips! Now I only got one shrimp, but it was hardly a shrimp. It wasn’t those coconut shrimp either you buy in bulk at Costco, which ever coastal shack seems to sell and market as «premium». No, The Chippy provides a freshly butterflied JUMBO prawn fried in the same exquisite batter as the fish. Equally if not more satisfying, the crisp and the juiciness of their technique really come through in the shrimp. If I have the chance, I’d order just a plate of shrimp to eat head to tail(yes, I eat the fried tail, you should try it). Tie all of this together with a heaping portion of garlic fries. Now, I worried about coming back to the office smelling like a fryer, and even moreso a fryer from Gilroy, CA(aka Garlicville USA). We all know that’s exactly what your coworkers like to smell for the rest of the afternoon. Again, The Chippy comes up, while obviously soaked in garlic, the execution isn’t overdone. I loved the taste, and there is no garlic breath to follow. This is much appreciated for those at work! Overall, I love this place and will miss the proximity of it, compared to their other location. I definitely didn’t take advantage of the opportunity while it was there, but c’est la vie. I highly recommend to go visit their Anaheim location. For those of you looking for a local alternative, check out«Durty Nelly’s» located off Red Hill. They make a traditional fish and chips, and I may say that it could breach that four-star gap, as I do recall their fish being moister, but nearly the same batter! They have decent happy hour pricing too on food, and great beer!

Please come before lunch rush hours because if you don’t, you will until your lunch time is over and you will have to eat at your desk(if you can). Luckily, my for my first time here, I came at 11am and there was already a line. I didn’t have to wait long to order my food, but it took a little while to get the food. I was only 4th in line and by the time I ordered my food, the line was already forming. There was only one person running the front and the guy didn’t even have time to give me my soda drink. I waited about 20 minutes for my fresh fish and chips, and it was worth it. The size of the 2 fish were very generous and they give enough french fries to top off the meal. There are other food on the menu too, but I was so in love with this order, that I kept ordering the same thing. It may be a little expensive for lunch, but I don’t mind coming here once in a while and spend $ 10 on fish and chips. This place may be a little hard to find because it is located inside a cafeteria market.

I’ve been wanting to try this place out but never got around to it. Ordered my Po Boy shrimp combo. I didn’t wait too long and took my order to go. The Po’boy was ok. It had good flavor but I swear I only counted about 3 – 4 shrimps. So that right there lost a star. The bread was good and so was the sauce. The price was the other issue the total for my combo was a little over $ 11 which maybe the standard around that food court but its still expensive.

Mixed review for the Chippy Fish & Chips. Made a special trip here today for lunch and with a friend when we found out that they offered calamari. I was especially excited to find out that they had a fish, calamari and chip combo. Trifecta right? Well not so much. Right after they took my order, they wouldn’t sell my friend calamari by itself even though it was clearly on the menu. Fail. Bottom line? Food 2.5. Nothing special. Not being able to purchase something on the menu that you want? 0 stars. Average 1.25 rounded down to 1. Want good fish or calamari? Try California Fish Grill, just 4 miles away.

Terrible service. A friend and I came here for lunch based on the reviews. He ordered the fish and calamari combo — no problems there. When it was my turn to order, I asked for the calamari and chips(fries) which were both listed as side orders. The lady at the counter tells me that I can’t order the calamari as a side even though it’s clearly listed on their menu. They did not run out, she just tells me that I «can’t» order it, no other explanation. Of course, I was thoroughly confused. Nowhere on the menu does it state that side orders cannot be ordered individually. The lady then proceeds to try and upsell me the calamari with fish combo instead. Suffice to say, I walked off and got my lunch elsewhere. Summary: This place will try to rip you off. The menu is a lie. Don’t come here.

$ 10.79 including tax gets you two deep fried fish, 1 fried shrimp, and a small basket of fries with a drink. prices are pretty steep for a small food court shop, especially if they aren’t really using top quality ingredients. the fried fish was very bland and had thick batter, so i just ended up digging out the fish from their weird tasting batter to dip it in their tasteless tartar sauce that wasn’t even icy cold. the one piece of fried shrimp was probably the best thing served. fries were a bit burnt here and there, but it was just okay — again, no salt or any seasoning. just a deep fried basket of fries. the drink was completely filled with ice and i doubt they’d give you free refills(i didn’t bother to check because the guy who was working there seemed miserable and upset to see any customers rolling through to his register). quite frankly, i wouldn’t mind paying about $ 2 more for quality fish and chips from Slapfish or even Union Jack’s.

Had high hopes for this place based on the reviews, but I was pretty disappointed with the food here. I ordered the 1 Fish and 1 Jumbo Shrimp combo, and I didn’t like the batter on either of them at all. They were not crispy by any means, and there was absolutely no flavor. I upgraded to garlic fries, but they weren’t anything to go crazy over either. Sorry to say, I’ve definitely had better and will not return.

Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday 10:00 am — 2:30 pm. Closed Saturday and Sunday Chippy’s is the perfect spot for a quick bite during a lunch break. The highlight of their menu is their fried fish. It comes out piping hot, extra crispy, and cooked just right. Their prices are affordable and the huge slabs of fish are such a great deal. Just two pieces of fried fish by itself is enough to fill an empty stomach. I would recommend skipping the fries since they’re nothing special, but it’s always an option. They have a super friendly staff that would be glad to answer any questions you have about the menu. This hidden gem is located in a food court with a big parking lot, with their sister store located in the Anaheim Packing District. Parking is never a problem with plenty of free parking in the plaza.

Great fish and chips. Don’t be scared by the location. These industrial food courts sometimes have the best food. Service is great and the pieces of fish are meaty and tasty.

FOOD: 4 Stars for the Fish. I had the Fish and Chips combo. 2 pieces with fountain drink came to under $ 11. I thought it was a little pricey. Until I saw how big the fish strips were. Had I known how huge they were, I’d certainly would’ve only gotten 1 piece. The fish was fried well — nice crispy outside. The fish inside wasn’t really flavorful. It needed the condiments that are provided. Still, I was pretty impressed with the quality of the fish. 2.5−3 Stars for the French Fries. They’re old school, reminding me of the fries I had in grade school. Except cooked better as the fries of childhood were usually soggy. SERVICE: Great. Friendly service. Employees looked happy to be there. AMBIENCE: In a food court that seems to be on the decline. Not all the stalls are occupied. I remember a Thai place that’s no longer there. Free parking is in a small shopping center lot where the food court is situated. VERDICT: Like the fish and want to come back to try their other offerings(fish sandwich, cajun or garlic fries, calamari, hush puppies). TIP: Just get the fish. If you get the fries, then you’ll probably only need to order one piece.

This place is legit. Their Fish n Chips are the best. They use fresh fish to fry and the result is heaven. Upgrade to Cajun Fries. Their jambalaya shrimp is finger-licking good!

More like 3.5 stars. A-OK in my book! Within the Anaheim Packing House is a little spot that serves up some of the freshest fish and chips I’ve had in awhile. But the price that comes with this find is the wait time. Which seems like forever. I suppose I don’t mind waiting for my food as long as it comes out fresh and tasty but it does take awhile. You have been warned. What we had: 1 piece fish and shrimp for yours truly: light and crispy battered fish filet and crisp fries. Not too shabby! On special: Garlic Shrimp Plate served with rice and salad: these were served shell-on with a hefty portion of chopped garlic and butter. Tasty goodness and a decent portion. Service was meh. But that’s okay, it was busy and had their hands full so I get it. Not quite a 4 star rating for me but I’d still return regardless.

It’s located in a strip mall and within the food court at that strip mall so it’s very difficult to actually find this fish and chip shop. I’m British so feel quite well qualified to assess the quality of fish and chips. The chips were average but the fish was absolutely great, just the way you get it at a fish and chip shop in England.

Quite possibly one of the best fish n chips places I have been to so far. Nice big pieces of cod, that is juicy and moist. The batter is light and crunchy and not too oily. I think the fish itself could have used a bit more seasoning, but TARTARSAUCE~! They have all the tartar sauce you want, set up on the side, in a squeeze bottle. No more sauce nazis~! I grabbed the 2 fish + 1 shrimp + fries combo. Shrimp was slightly over cooked but still tasty. Fries were thick and crispy and still tender on the inside. Make sure to check out their Daily Special board. Today they had BBQ baby back ribs + slaw + fries for $ 9.99(maybe 4 – 5 ribs).

Fresh, made to order fish and chips. Fish is fresh. Hand breaded or grilled. Fries are good. Malt vinegar and Tartar sauce and fresh lemon are provided. It was good, but for some reason not 5 stars. Don’t know if it was the fish or the breading, but it was just missing a little something that would make it more than 4 stars. Ye Olde Kings Head is still the best on my list; with Union Jack Fish and Chips(in Fountain Valley not the one in Costa Mesa) a tasty best bang for the buck.

One of the better places to grab fish & chips. I shared the fish, shrimp and fries with my husband, he had the shrimp and really loved them, said some of the best he has had. My fish was great too, fresh, crisp, breaded and fried perfectly. The fries were ok, but nothing special. Service is excellent, portions are just right, but the prices are just a bit high IMO. Good quality goodness to be had here!

I really wanted to like this place. The reviews were good. The employees were good to me. The prices were okay. The place was one of the most crowded when I arrived to the food court at 12 noon. Everything was all set up for me to have a nice meal here. I ordered their Thursday combo of Fish and Calamari. Then waited. Ten minutes later, my lunch was ready. Other reviewers wrote that they use cod for their fried fish, and their photos appeared to be cod. But, my fish did not look like cod. The fish they served me was too thin to be cod. My fish looked like a tilapia, basa, swai, or some other cheap fish. Definitely, not cod like I have seen in reputable fish markets and restaurants that serve cod. I will give them credit for the way they fried the fish. The batter was nice and crunchy. But, when I read that they serve cod, I expect cod, not some kind of cheap fish. The fried calamari was good. It was seasoned, battered, and fried wonderfully. The chip(or fries)? I didn’t like them. I ate two fries, and threw the rest away. As mentioned above, service was good. They have lots on the menu. It looked promising. It was a five star experience, until I got my fish. 2 ½ stars.
