I’m torn between a 3 and a 4 here. 3, because the food isn’t that great, but 4 because you get unlimited beer and sake. Here’s how it works: you pay $ 26 and get unlimited everything — beer, sake(hot or cold), hibachi, noodle grill, sushi, appetizers, miso soup, hot pot, korean ribs and more. The sushi is pretty crappy quality, but the hibachi and noodle grills are pretty good. You go up to a bar, make a plate of raw ingredients you like and hand it over to your chef. They bring it to you when it’s ready. You can go back as much as you like. There’s also a wide array of sides and appetizers at the buffet, and a few rice choices. Your waiter/waitress can bring you a hot pot, where you can cook raw veggies and meat yourself — much like a fondue pot. The dessert bar is pretty cool, too. There’s a chocolate fountain and lots of bite-size Asian cakes and cookies. At the end of the night, they’ll offer you red bean or green tea ice cream. It’s a high price, but if you go in knowing it’s $ 26, you can plan to eat a lot and try EVERYTHING. And drink a lot.

Just a FYI: It seems this place may be CLOSED for business. there is a sign on the door about closed due to plumbing issues and their phone number says it is a non working number when you call. This is a shame because I really liked this place and I hope this is just a temporary closing.

If you go here expecting top shelf sushi prepared to order you will leave disappointed. On the other hand if you go with the understanding its a buffet, and in the world of sushi buffets it tends to be more about quantity, then you might just leave very full and satisfied. And drunk. Not a bad combination. I’ve been a few times at night and although somewhat pricey, if you want to pig out on sushi and don’t want to spend $ 100+ then its not a bad deal. Free saki and beer. The quality in my opinion is a 5 or 6 out of 10 on most sushi and rolls. They have all kinds of cooked Chinese dishes. After a few cups of saki I tend to stumble over and load up a plate or two. Desserts aren’t too bad, love the marshmallow and strawberry chocolate fondue thing. Make sure you get on their website and get the 10% off coupon. For some reason they always do it as 20% off. Service is good also.

Came here for lunch and I liked it a lot. All the sushi buffet places don’t usually have sashimi for lunch but was pleasantly surprised to find some here although they weren’t all that fresh. Then again, it’s Texas. Sushi in Texas aren’t meant to be all that fresh. Anyway, very reasonably priced, good food and close to my home and work: D

I don’t know what’s up with the bad reviews either lol. This is my family’s go to place for sushi buffet! This is a review based on the lunch buffet. They have so much variety of sushi here, it’s great! Whenever we come here, this place is always full of people. Last time we came here, there was a line and we had to wait about 5 minutes for them to get us a table. My dad personally knows the owner here cause apparently he was a barber before? lol. But anyways, I feel like this is the best sushi place! I’ve been to Osaka before in Plano I believe, and that place is awesome too. But if there are other sushi buffet places around here that you think is better than Sushi Awaji, then definitely let me know! :) Oh and don’t forget to ask for their ice cream, even though you feel like you can’t eat another bite of food! :D

Okay, so I was going to eat here for lunch today because I really wanted sushi and I know that theirs is good! What I didn’t remember apparently is how much they cost. Browsing Unilocal i remembered this place and when I walked in she said it was $ 15.99 for the lunch buffet without a drink! After I picked my jaw up off the floor I turned on my heel and left. Dont they realize it isn’t payday yet?! And anyway, this girl is on a budget. Now they have good sushi and nigiri, I can tell you that. Its all very fresh and theres plenty of it, but it’s not any better than the average sushi restaurant and I don’t eat my weight in food at buffets so there was no value for me! If you’re looking to eat here make sure you’re hungry, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy the sushi(it is good!) but it’s just not worth it to me. Tip: It’s more expensive for dinner! But I hear they have free drinks, I live in Lakewood so I’m never in the area for dinner.

I never thought to come here because the fact that it was an old CVS really turned me off. However, my cousins convinced our group to go because there was all-you-can-drink beer. But when we got there and asked about the beer, we were accused of being underage… and when we showed her our IDs, she still couldn’t do the math in her head. Anyway, after we sorted everything out we finally got a table. The interior was actually pretty amazing. But that’s where my amazement stopped. I was eager to try out the sushi, but all of it was okay, if not sub-par. The sashimi was obviously just thawed; it was so watery! All-in-all, it was an OK place(definitely better than 1 star). Sure you save money with the buffet and all-you-can-drink beer, but I would rather pay $ 30 for better-tasting sushi and sashimi.

Here’s the big question. If you had only $ 20 and you had to choose between Tokyo One or Sushi Awaji … where would you go? I’d go to Tokyo One in a heart beat because the food(as I recall) is simply better, the ingredients fresher, and the cuisine closer to being Japanese than some crappy pan-Asian buffet. Of all the Sushi Buffets in DFW, Sushi Awaji is easily at the bottom percentile. The sushi bar is stingy on the masago(caviar) and uses stale sushi rice. They even serve wasabi with a butter knife. The buffet resembles a cheap Golden Corral-Chinese buffet hybrid with many dishes being battered and fried. Roasted potatoes? Mixed vegetables with corn? Fried Catfish? Normally, it’s not a big deal but you can easily see how Awaji cuts corners in its attempt to appear more plentiful. The prime example is canned pineapples … to which I ask why bother? Again, I go back to the side by side comparison between Tokyo One and Sushi Awaji. Both cost $ 15.95 for lunch but when you start making side-by-side comparisons … you begin to realize that Sushi Awaji is ripping you off. And, the people who rave about Sushi must prefer quantity over quality. I don’t blame them because I had 4 plates of sushi myself but I was eating for the sake of eating lots of cheap sushi — not because I actually enjoyed it. That being said, I am intrigued by this unlimited beer & sake dinner buffet. Everything about Sushi Awaji just feels cheap — from the furniture to the furnishings — until you realize how expensive the bill ends up being. [Original Visit: March 29, 2010]

Value value value. For $ 26.99(dinnertime), you get a Japanese/Korean buffet similar to Tokyo One/Japan House and UNLIMITED beer and sake. The buffet line consists of your usual sushi rolls, sashimi, salads, assorted tempura, shabu shabu, Mongolian style grill, Korean short ribs, kimchi, crab legs, steak, and some other things. The steak and kalbi were good and crab legs seemed fresh. I didn’t try the sushi rolls but had a few pieces of sashimi and they were decent for buffet. Actually, everything else also tasted pretty good and fresh considering this is a buffet. The main reason I rank this place so highly is because of the free booze. You get the same food as other Japanese buffets but you don’t have to pay for sake/beer. My friends and I stayed for 3 hours on Saturday night and must’ve drank 6 or 7 mini carafes of sake each. I didn’t even bother to drink the beer to avoid getting full; albeit Eugene L. did point out the beer seemed watered down. We figured who cares anyways, just drink sake! I felt we definitely got our money’s worth eating the most expensive items on the buffet line and drinking as much as we did. Our waitress was attentive, kept the booze flowing, and cleaned our table of used dishes frequently, not much more I could ask for in terms of service. Remember, this is a sushi buffet, so do not expect the best quality or creative sushi/sashimi dishes as you would at a normal sushi restaurant. Awaji is for those of you who want a variety of different items for a fair price. Throw in free sake/beer and you’ve got yourself a great value. I will definitely come back and back again so long as they still have this deal.

One word. CRAP. The food was HORRIBLE! Rice on the sushi was stale. Even the warm food was kind of «rubbery» from sitting out. YES, free beer and sake at dinner… but for someone like me who doesn’t drink… that doesn’t make that big of a difference. In all honesty, I think they give you the free alcohol at dinner to get you drunk enough to not notice how horrible the food tastes. Also, the drunker you are the less you’ll feel bad about the price increase at dinner for the crappy food. Just saying is all…

Hmmm… a retail pharmacy turned into a sushi place? Very interesting. Now, a sushi buffet tends to set off alarms. First, sushi is best prepared fresh… literally it’s supposed to be eaten right after preparation. Second, the economics. It just doesn’t make sense to pay even $ 30 for endless sushi if it is high grade, no business can run on that model. So, I come to Sushi Awaji with simple expectations. I wanted decent sushi, not great. I did not get that. The sushi was pretty poor. The rice did not have that great texture you look for in sushi rice. I look for Unagi at every sushi place I go to, it is my go-to item. I grabbed two pieces and they were so bad I didn’t finish one. I have NEVER had Unagi so poor that I couldn’t eat it. It was tough and had an odd flavor. The rest of the sushi is kind of bleh. Now, I have heard good things about their Sashimi. If you love Sashimi, this may be a place for you. I am not a huge Sashimi fan, so I didn’t try it. The warm dishes are good. I LOVE shrimp tempura and it was very good. The other dishes were pretty good, especially the korean style short ribs. The desserts are just okay. Overall, it’s about as expected. While the sushi was underwhelming, the warm bar was fairly good. For $ 16/lunch or $ 32 at dinner, it isn’t a horrible deal. Still, give me freshly prepared sushi and I will gladly pay you more for it.

I went for dinner last night with a friend. As far as their sushi buffet compares with other places(like Tokyo One and Osaka’s) they actually have a more extensive selection of rolls. They were decent and you can get custom stir fry from the mongolian grill. You can also get Shabu Shabu(Japanese hot pot) but you have to request it and the server will bring it directly to your table. This place is decently priced for the food and the sushi is fairly good. Oh and I almost forgot one important thing, they server all-you-can-drink free beer and sake during dinner time! So its a perfect place to go on the weekends with friends to just eat, drink, and socialize before heading out for the night.

I went for lunch with a friend I’ve been to their location in Plano before and it was a regular restaurant and wasn’t a buffet so I know I was in for something new… the all-you-eat buffet is about $ 16. The sushi selection was some what limited Tuna, Salmon, Eel, yellowfin tuna, and about 10 different kind of rolls(most are still variation of the california roll). besides the main sushi/sashimi tables they also offered Hibachi, cold appetizers, soba soup noodles, fried food, a few chinese small dishes and desert. The food quality was ok for a buffet, but the service was excellent our waitress was very friendly, fast. All in all, it was a very pleasant visit although I don’t know how often I’d go there from Richardson… Tokyo One in Addison and Osaka in Plano are both similar in selection/price and it’s closer to me one BIG plus which I missed is the«Free Beer and Saki at Dinner.» but dinner pricing is about $ 26.99/person I believe I don’t know how much you can eat/drink at a buffet place but it’s worth I work in Las Colinas, and for sushi, my work team typically goes to Midori. We decided to stray and I’m glad we did. Comparing apples to apples, Awaji is a better sushi buffet than Midori, with probably three times the selection. For comparison, it’s more like Tokyo One in Addison. Would I go here for just the sushi? Not so much. But for buffett sushi, it’s passable. And apparently for their dinner buffet($ 26.99) you get free beer and saki. I’m imagining eating about a pound of raw fish and a gallon or two of beer. Could be great. Could be disastrous.

$ 27 for all you can eat. The GOOD: – The selection was pretty good. Sashimi tasted fresh. The fried station(tempura and other fried items) remained crispy. You’ll definitely find at least a few items that will suit your tastebuds. – The service was excellent. The waitress constantly cleared our empty plates and refilled my tea consistently. – Free sake and beer at dinner. I didn’t drink but I thought it was kind of funny that I had to pay $ 2 for my hot tea when I could have drank all the beer and sake I wanted for free. – This place is Korean owned so you’ll find a few Korean dishes along with the typical Japanese fare. The Not-So-Good: – There really wasn’t anything bad. It’s hard to give a buffet 5-stars so I guess on principal I gave 4-stars. It was a good experience. I would go back with an emptier stomach so I can also try the shabu-shabu and the spicy ramen.

Pretty good buffet, they have a pretty nice selection of sushi. The quality was good for a sushi buffet, can’t expact the same size and quality like at a non-buffet sushi restaurant. What sets them apart is that they have both a really good Hibachi section where you can pick whatever you want them to cook for you and they will bring the plate to your table. They also have a good selection of various noodle soups you can ask them to put together for you. I’ll definitely be back. I went for lunch, it was far less expensive than Tokyo One.

I went here with some coworkers for lunch. I’ll admit that I entered the place looking for flaws(having spent quite a bit of time in Japan I’m always interested in seeing how authentic any sushi or Japanese eatery is). This place isn’t aiming to be super authentic I think and probably can’t afford to if they want to stay in business. They are going for volume and speed. Sushi Awaji(‘awaji’ is Japanese for flavor or taste) is about average, depending on what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for an all-you-can-eat sushi/asian buffet and don’t expect something special from the cuisine then this is your place. The prices aren’t great and the food isn’t either in my mind, but most people don’t come into a place like this with high expectations so they walk away satisfied. Personally, if I’m going to spend ~$ 15 or more on a meal I’d go else where. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area where you could spend half of this and eat your fill and still have cash left in your pocket. I can think of at least three other asian restaurants within a 10 – 20 minute drive of Sushi Awaji that are a better bang for your buck. If you like sushi buffets then try it out, I know that my coworkers liked it and so may you.

Seriously, this place is not good. Are you guys kidding me? Maybe I went on an off day, and I can see how it would be better if it was a good day but, man, this was pretty miserable. The waitress was really nice and kept bringing us stuff to try. The only problem was, none of it was good. It’s the same problem as most other buffets. Too much focus on having lots of options and no attention to quality. I mean, you are eating raw fish, rice, and vegetables. This has got to be fresh! Well ours wasn’t. Sure, there was lots of options, but when you get old sushi, thats been sitting on a buffet table too long, it starts to taste bland and boring. The worst part about it is the price. We paid over $ 70 for two people and all we got was lame fish. I have had worse meals for sure, but they were only a fraction of the price! And FYI– your ONLYOPTION is the buffet. We thought we could just go in and sample a few rolls to get a feel for the place but once we were in there, had our drinks and were ready to look at a menu we were informed that we could only do the buffet(like 30 dollars or something each). I don’t think I will ever be back. It’s not like MacArthur is hurting for sushi restaurants or anything.

Okay, so I’m not the snobbiest or purist-i-est of sushi fans, and I’m pretty okay with sushi buffet as a concept, provided it doesn’t kill me. So, coming from that viewpoint, this place is pretty damn cool! A couple bucks more than the standard $ 11-$ 13ish lunch buffet($ 15.99 now), and the choices are about 10 times more. This place is huge, and actually pretty inside. Now, when I say huge, we’re not quite talking Todai big… but it is VERY large. Probably a good 30+ rolls, 4 – 5 types of sashimi(buttery little squares of salmon, YUM), lots of salads(seaweed — yum; fruit with kiwi dressing — yum; spicy salmon — yum; green salad — why do you try to steal plate space, you sneaky little shit?!), those odd little cake/flavored whipped cream/jelly petit fours specific to EVERY Asian buffet EVER… the whole back wall is the warm stuff, including soups, noodles, tempura-whatever, skewers, and an hibachi chef. Service is always attentive, they almost always have both green tea and red bean ice cream for dessert(ask), and eff me if the sign on the way in didn’t say free beer and sake with dinner!!! I’m SO gonna work that angle one of these days.

I am not sure I would EVER give an all-you-can-eat buffet 5 stars… However, I really like this place! It seems to be korean run, which is cool… especially since my wife if from korea… Food was very good 4⁄5 stars Service was great 5⁄5 stars Made to order stuff 4⁄5 stars Bathrooms clean 5⁄5 stars Even though I didn’t WANT to like this place, I did. The manager was VERY friendly, and checked on us several times. We did not go to lunch, just dinner. Was not cheap, I believe $ 30’ish per person. However, beer and sake was included(seriously). Overall, I will be back and enjoyed this place. Just to think… it was a drugstore before…
