The sushi was excellent and the owner was very nice and helpful.

New name, same boring atmosphere. This place has so much potential, but it just falls short each and every time. But anyway, if you’re looking for a nice, quiet and chill place to hang out, The Avocado is the place for you. Drinks are reasonably priced and the sushi is pretty decent.

I came to the avocado for the first time tonight and my experience was great. The server was very helpful and the sushi was AMAZING. Way better than I expected. The portions were perfect: definitely coming back.

First off, this bar/restaurant used to be called The Cellar. If you’ve been looking for what happened to The Cellar, look no further. The Cellar’s American food was pretty good before, but in case you didn’t like it you definitely owe it to yourself to come back and have some sushi. You read that right. There is apparently a hybridization between American and Japanese cuisines here, but the real star of the show here is their sushi. This also sheds light on why they changed the name. I’ll admit that I kind of hated«The Avocado» name change, but it made more sense after seeing that almost ALL of the sushi on the menu has avocado in it. Let me tell you that this is the BEST sushi that I have ever had. Okay, I’ll admit that may not be saying much, but I’m a Texan that loves sushi and for the price you need to at least try it. We ordered the Volcano roll and the Crunch roll. Although the sushi is a little on the salty side, you still have a near perfect balance of various flavors, some familiar like the cucumber, wasabi and the sushi itself, and some unique flavors that come from the addition of cream cheese, some form of delicious bread crumbs and some stellar sauce that must have been created by Jesus himself. If you have tried The Cellar before and are scared of coming back now, please don’t be! The place is a great romantic spot if you enjoy eating outside by a river with gondolas that row past you every once in a while. It’s truly a great place to go on a date and go to if you really want to do something special with your significant other. It’s worth the price!

The sushi is exceptional!!! Unfortunately, the service needs to step up to the standards of the food. While I love the people, they really need to understand that this is no longer the Cellar and not continue to give the same«Cellar» service. My husband came in and left bc he sat there and no one ever came to take his order or acknowledged him. He refuses to go back there, although I’ve tried to convince otherwise. I hate that bc there is a lot of potential for this place… I would hate that people being complacent would get in the way of the potential success of this business…

Worse service ever! We waited 3 hours for service and the management is very unprofessional! I would not recommend to anyone ever

Willfully, maliciously bad service on a Friday night. I don’t understand why or how someone with so little regard for clientele would open a service establishment. This place will not see summer 2016.

To be honest if I could give this 0 stars I might. I don’t typically hate restaurants due to some sort of saving grace but this place was just downright pathetic. Like they had to actually try to be that awful. Let me start by saying its a blended restaurant of American and Asian food. Weird combo? I think so. But hey, I’m willing to try anywhere out at least once. We started by ordering the cheese fries and edamame for an appetizer, which they weren’t bad. But they weren’t great. I ordered the chicken tenders and they must have been fried in old grease or something, because they tasted burned. A friend ordered grilled chicken/mashed potatoes/vegetables…it wasn’t good. The mashed potatoes were almost ice cold. The vegetables were plain and basically raw and the corn on the cob was disgusting. I’m not even sure how you can mess up corn on the cob, but they accomplished that. Another friend ordered the philly cheese steak and she couldn’t take more than 2 bites out of it. She also got creamed corn as a backup and that was horrible, not sure what kind of broth base they used but it was not good in the slightest. This is a cool location and a good place to get drinks and sit by the canal. But don’t get food there. Definitely not worth the letdown.

Had an awesome visit at this restaurant. Was looking for some sushi and ran into this spot. Tried a bunch of different rolls which were all amazing. Definitely recommend coming here! If you like salmon, try the Lucas roll!

The food is amazing and so is the atmosphere! I am really hoping this place stays around for a long time, because it’s such a great location. I’ve had several sushi rolls, the grilled salmon, fried pickles, fried mozzarella, and all of it has been very good so far! They even made me some spinach and mushroom quesadillas once that were to die for. They aren’t on the menu, but they will make them for you! Service is wonderful and the drinks are pretty good, too. I will keep coming back!

Came in for lunch and ordered a salad. Salad was great– along with many other things I’ve also tried on the menu. Service was impeccable. Very friendly and on top of things. Definitely can’t wait to come back again for another lunch/happy hour/dinner. :)

Great Drinks and Happy Hour on point! The New«Avacado and lounge» will satisfy your sushi and American cravings without a doubt! They said they were previously«The Cellar.» The New ownership has a great appetizer selection, traditional gourmet American entrees, and yes. A great selection of sushi and rolls. The Sushi and Sashimi is the best since I’ve had since I lived in Little Tokyo, L.A. You can tell when an establishment prides itself in purchasing a higher quality grade of sushi than its competitors. I call Dallas my new home and like to consider myself a foodie since I frequented the San Francisco and Los Angeles food scene. I’m glad I have a go to spot to go to and a place to go to in order to bring my friends visiting from out of town without disappointing them!

This ‘bar and restaurant’ was previously«The Cellar» and before that, «Texas Bar and Grill.» It seems they’ve changed their name in an attempt to evade history, but it seems much the same. A large, disjointed group from work met here. That’s tough to deal with for any bar, I get that, but it’s their job. We stood around and didn’t really look like a group. Although not asked, I requested to pay for my drink immediately after it was served. No problem, the server took my card and brought back a ticket. It was more than double what it should have been. They included someone’s glass of wine. It was a member our group who I didn’t know. The manager was right there and apologized, but I didn’t want to make a fuss and paid. If you have to go here, pay attention, because staff do not.

Don’t necessarily come here for the food. My boyfriend and I wanted some dinner near our apartment on Lake Carolyn, so we chose The Avocado, formerly known as The Cellar. There is nothing special about the menu; no specialties or a theme. We both«built our own burgers» — can’t go wrong with a burger, right? Long story short, it was below average. Our burgers weren’t cooked correctly, my bun was stale, and the«add on» ingredients weren’t fantastic. Decent service, good bar, and loved the outdoor seating next to the canal. We will be coming back because it’s a bar near our home, but probably won’t be getting a meal!
