Went to this restaurant after a recommendation. What a mistake! Food was horrible. Had to wait an hour on the rooftop, which I don’t mind a wait if food is good. The band was not good oceanview was the only good thing about this place. Do yourself a favor and skip Coconut Joe’s! Wished I had…

All of the complaints here well deserved. It’s an awesome location with potential for a great vacationy beach atmosphere. Instead, they managed to turn a beautiful summer beach night into a miserable experience. 7:10 pm — We put our names on the list for a table for 7. They tell us it should be 35 mins max, so we head upstairs for a drink. Nice bartenders, no issues there. 7:45 — Still no call so we go downstairs to check. Quelle surprise! They make up 3 separate reasons as to why they forgot about us. Suspicious, no? 8:40 — Receive our food, inhale it because we’re so hungry. Waitress never checks back on how everything came out. During our 90 mins at the table, we are never offered drink refills. No manager in sight either. 9:00 — Get attitude about splitting the check even though we asked twice before ordering. We were on business travel so we need individual receipts for expense purposes, not trying to be difficult. If they had told us at the beginning that they could/would not split checks, we would have gone somewhere else. She eventually managed to split the check. 9:15 — Finally able to leave this hole we’re trapped in.

HORRIBLECUSTOMERSERVICE. Gabriel was the bartender on duty and was the least personable person I’ve ever encountered. We were the only people at the bar and he acted as if it was a task to answer questions we had when trying to order. If I asked for a quesadilla with meat and cheese only he simply stated, «That’s impossible,» with no explanation as to why such a simple thing is impossible. Ordered a beer and he stated, «Don’t have it.» I’m a server myself so for me to tip absolutely nothing takes a lot and that’s exactly what he got. I didn’t even want to eat here simply because the service was so terrible.

Too bad the service isn’t as good as the view! Our waiter didn’t want to be there and it showed. The food was average at best. Should have been about 30% cheaper given the quality. One bright spot: Go upstairs for the view and live music.

Shrimp and gritts sauce is thick and rich, which in small quantities would be nice but here they over do it and it turns into a mess, high calorie and fat and just too much for digestion. Shrimp and gritts is a very popular dish in this area, I wouldn’t recommend getting it at this restaurant. The crab dip was good. Great beach view. Loved the view didn’t care much for their food.

We had the Coconut Shrimp and Jamaican Jerk Chicken. Both we excellent. Great taste and good portions. Afterwards we got their huge Banana Split. It comes with 6 scoops. We sat in the upper deck bar and enjoyed the view and breeze but did not drink. Will definitely return one day.

Okay good food, great atmosphere, but I’m not a big fan of being told there were not any table ready, but you’re welcome to go up on the roof and have a drink. Clever way to upsell, but it blows up in your face with a member of your party goes to the restroom and see a dining room full of empty tables.

I like this little beach grill. Three stories with the restaurant on the second floor and live music on the third. The views are gorgeous, the drinks are fun and the food is great. I had the shrimp po boy. It was bigger than expected and packed with shrimp, it definitely did not disappoint. I’ll be coming back for sure. The only downside I see is the service. Food took awhile to come out.

Enjoyed the outside top floor while waiting for our table to be ready on the patio. We had the mahi-mahi which was good. I think my favorite was the shrimp-grit — just spicy enough and the sauce was good. Good spot near Charleston to enjoy the beach also.

Nice patio w/a number of good food items. Very laid back in a good way. I was disappointed tho when the check came & I questioned the $ 6.50 charge for what I thought was a fresh squeezed raspberry lemonade only to find out after consumption that our waitress had served a spiked version. I’m an alcoholic & while I have it well under control the staff needs to know that for some who struggle with liquor this could set them off.

This patio view is heads and tails far superior to those at the other establishments at other beaches in my opinion. The left to right unblocked panoramic view is just as picturesque as any SC postcard. Although we had already eater no less than an hour prior, the food looked really enticing, so order we did. The Coconut Shrimp which for namesake alone seemed logical was a wonderful dish. Plump shrimp heavily encrusted in thick shredded coconut was a meal to itself and the Crab Dip never quit. It was a crab bowl with a huge basket of nachos, I thought it fabulous.

Great location and pretty decent food. A bit chilly but the outside heaters were on. Waitress was very friendly and great attitude. Would recommend to anyone in area. Great drinks as well. Happy customer

It’s tradition! This is where we go to kill hangovers. It’s beach-side which means once we’ve recovered, and after the obligatory Ben and Jerrys, we walk the beach. I love that Joes is open year round, and whether we go in Mar or Nov, it always seems busy. Everything I’ve ever had here has been decent. The kids love the French fries and if you go in with expectations of bar food you won’t be disappointed. The tacos are good, and I like the fish sandwich too.

Tourist spot for sure, and slow service, almost always packed. But, I am a local and we take guests there when looking for a beachy place for a good dinner and Coconut Joe’s fits the bill. You can’t beat the view, Bob’s Golden Margarita, and you seriously can’t beat the grouper. I had it blackened and it was soooo tasty I woke up thinking about it this morning!

3 stars for the food 5 stars for the view. So let’s be honest here. It’s the typical eatery found oceanfront, bar food music & phenomenal views of the mighty Atlantic. Wow what a view. I went for lunch today. It was fine. This place has been on my list for some time. I can not even imagine what the crowds must be like in season. Today maybe 5 tables were busy. I never got a chance to go to the top deck(Too cold) but the bar area inside was great, fun quirky décor with great space. They have an open/enclosed dining area with those plastic sheets as walls. People were eating out there but not me today. Too cold for me. The staff were fantastic & I asked about the summer crowds. She said it was insane from March to November! It’s a little tricky to get to, in around the back & up the stairs. They do have a disabled lift which is great. The food as I say is typical bar food with burgers & fish. It’s fine as long as you are aware & ok with that. Will definitely return with family & friends to listen to the music, which plays day & night in season.

The service was wonderful at this place — our waitress was so sweet and helpful. The décor is eclectic and fun. The food is pretty good — I got the grilled grouper and it was nice and the mashed potatoes it came with was delicious. Their famous coconut shrimp felt overfried and a little sweet to me, but everyone else loved it. The margaritas were a bit on the weak/sweet side. They’ve got a lovely seaside deck too so it’s a nice place to have a meal.

Since this is one of the few ocean front dining options around here we were pretty pleased! The salads were good and huge portions. Burger and fries were ok. The service is friendly and the view of course beautiful.

Coconut Joe’s is a tough one. There are some pros and cons on it for sure. The good: it’s open year-round and has a killer rooftop bar. Sitting on the third floor deck and watching the sunset over the ocean is pretty magnificent. The bad: the food is marginal at best. Basically don’t eat here. It’s also kind of dusty and grimy inside. I feel like no one has ever dusted the massive collection of ball caps on the wall. It can be super touristy at times. All that said, if you go in with proper expectations, Coconut Joe’s is a great spot to enjoy a Corona and watch the sunset.

Reading some awful posts on this restaurant and am very confused. I’ve been here twice now and both times have been wonderful! Our waitress was Joell who is just a pleasure to work with. She is a great waitress! We had their Eggs Benedict with a Fried Green Tomato instead of Canadian Bacon. It was the best I’ve ever had! Second time we had the exact experience. Pouched Eggs are really had to do, this place has it down to perfection!!! I’ll be back.

I was really underwhelmed with Coconut Joe’s. Actually, the only pleasant part of our experience here this weekend, besides the company I was with, was our server. She’s the reason for the second star. We even saw her out later that evening and got her a drink as a thank you. She was really great. The bar/restaurant itself was sad, dingy and sticky. I would not go back if you paid me. Also, they cancel the band of the roof if it rains at all during the day – just FYI.
