The Dinghy

I come in regularly and last night I heard the bartender/​manager, Rachel, yelling at a customer and telling her she was drunk when she clearly didn’t come off that way. The lady was just politely explaining that her order got messed up somehow and the bartender immediately lost it. I felt so bad I had to apologize to the lady. Needless to say, windjammer is right across the street and it’s a much more pleasant atmosphere.

We live here in Mt Pleasant and visit the Dinghy quite often with our out of town friends and family. Tonight we came in to watch the Cavs game and I put an order in at the bar for three apps. Immediately the other bartender (Rachel) came up and put another menu in front of me and said this is our late night menu. So I proceeded to put in another order for three more apps thinking the previous order had not been put in because it was off the «old» menu but we were served six apps. I went to the bar to explain that we only ordered three apps off the late night menu and immediately got confrontation from bartender Rachel. I was trying to explain what happened and she became very argumentative and told me I was drunk (I was on my third beer) and didn’t know what I was talking about and said I ordered six apps which was true, however, I was told I could not order off the other menu so assumed the previous order was canceled which was what I was trying to explain. She proceeded to tell me that she was the late night mgr «as if it was okay for her to talk to me the way she did». I had to turn around and walk away to prevent further argument from her as she proceeded to tell other customers at the bar that I was drunk and didn’t know what I was saying. I was appalled that she was saying this to other customers and our company was appalled as well. The «security guy» asked me if I was alright and Rachel yelled at him from behind the bar telling him not to talk to me because I was drunk. Prior to our leaving, another customer came up and gave me a hug and said that she could not believe what she heard from the bartender. Needless to say our company was not impressed with your service and we left with your first time customers. We take our out of town company, friends and family, up there all the time and have NEVER been treated like this before but it will be a long time before we go back or recommend this bar to anyone again. Rachel was not friendly or receiving and treated me like shit (to be honest). Rachel being in a mgmt position maybe needs additional training on how to speak to her customers. Instead of an instant argument, she needs to zip her lip and listen. Very unpleasant visit!

Note: The bartenders cheat at music trivia while the rest of us are trying to win a $ 10 credit on our meal. 2 bartenders under the age of 25 are getting 1^st place on their trivia score sheets while asking questions, checking their phones and cheating. Why are they allowed to play in the first place? I watched the whole thing go down.
Anyway. The food was good and besides the ladies at the bar acting like that their service was fine.

Really fun place to spend a Wednesday evening. Great music played Wed. evening 6:30pm.
Good drinks and casual fun!

Okay, I sat outside with a group of friends and had a great time. The bartenders were fast and efficient. I wouuld go back and hang on their porch with buddies.

This just was not an enjoyable experience for me. Given — this is a very casual, bar type place. But there is casual and then there is — tacky and dirty — which is what this seemed to be to me. Truthfully wanted to just walk out — but was with others who were hungry. Fried fish sandwich was edible. Waitress was not friendly. Just not my cup of tea I guess. Would not go back.

Friendly staff, great atmosphere. Try the conch fritters or the Kevin burger… great game selection like giant jenga, giant connect 4, corn hole, old school Nintendo, plus a juke box to liven up the party. I love the Dinghy.

Love the dingy. But they close stupid early, like 130 on Saturday.

Ok. This is not a review about the food or drinks because I have never eaten and drank there.
However a friend and I did try to eat there today. We parked in the side lot around 1130AM. But to our disappointment the place was closed. Side door was locked. The We Are Open sign we not on and the chairs were on top of the tables. Pretty sure that means closed. Bummer.
So we did what most would do and that was to look around and see if there are any places that are open.
Hey, they look open. Sea Biscuit, right across the street. They had plenty of parking as the entire town was dead because it’s 1130 Tuesday and school is still in session. So we walked 30 feet across the street and ate. We left our cars.
Then at about 12:25 we get back to our cars and this lady starts yelling at us that we need to pay for our parking. What? We wanted to eat here but you were closed. So she starts yelling. I mean. Yelling. As in «best to leave the area right now because there is no way this ends well» YELLING. She was screaming that she had our tags. Ok. Great. Launch a drone strike I guess.
Anyway we are year round locals who have always wanted to try the Dinghy but never got around to it. So we tried. And did we park in their side lot. Yes. But that was only because we were making a good faith effort to become customers. And as the town was dead we didn’t even think to back up across the street. After all, the place was closed and there was parking everywhere.
It’s unfortunate that we got yelled at (me being polite) by someone who really must have thought we ran over her cat. On purpose.
We just wanted to eat there. We made a mistake. I GUESS. Or maybe the door should have not been locked, the chairs on the floor, and the WE ARE OPEN SIGN TURNED ON. But the reaction was so disproportionate that I am left wondering if I really did run over her cat.

As a loud, obnoxious bar, this place ranks up there with the rowdy! Great drinks selection but apparently they run out of stock and can’t even serve their signature specialty drinks.
The food was ok, not worth ordering unless you are drunk and starved.

Burgers were quite tasty for lunch. I was surprised given the reviews and the «dive» vibe going on. Sweet potato fries and fried plantains were good too as were the beers cold. Great spot with good AC to get away from the midday heat.

I wouldn’t probably come here to eat but the drinks were awesome and the Bar scene was chill and fun. We played a large sized game of Jenga with random bar goers, lots of fun. The bartender Luke was extremely outgoing and friendly. would recommend to anyone looking for a beach side drink and a good time.

Everybody should love a good dive bar, and this is a great one. Food is exactly as you would expect it to be… fried and tasty. Beer is cold and bourbon is served right. And the bartenders are good looking. Hard to ask for more. But then there’s live music to top it off.

We ordered lunch to go, pretty disappointing. I ordered the fish and chips and I was kind of expecting some fish. I just got a big air pocket of friend stuff with a fish flake in the middle (see pic) and it wasn’t even very good. The fries were good, the «fresh fruit» was definitely far from fresh, it was in light syrup like it had just been poured from a can.

As a bar, this place is awesome. The atmosphere, the drinks, the location… If I was just rating on that, it would be 5 stars… As a restaurant, it’s mediocre. We had the fish and chips and I found them extremely doughy and very greasy, if I was rating just on the restaurant, it would be more like 4 stars. I’ll give this new place another try for sure, we don’t have too many options out here anyway, but it may end up just our island watering hole…
