I finally went into McNeil music after living in Ithaca for two years. I was looking for a couple of guitar pedals and saw things that interested me on their web site. They do seem to do a good job keeping their inventory up to date, because they had both pedals in their display case. One was new and one was used on consignment. I bought the new pedal at their sticker price, and I can say their price was competitive. Maybe I could have saved a few bucks buying it on Amazon, but then I have to pay shipping and I’d much rather support local business anyway assuming they are in the vicinity of average street price on the item. I passed on the used pedal because the price was a bit high and the seller had not indicated they would accept a lower offer. Bear in mind that the price on consignment items is not set by McNeil – it’s set by the person who brought it in to sell. I didn’t look much at the rest of the stuff in the store, but it looks like they have a very nice selection of guitars, drum kits, amps, and many other things. Don’t hesitate to stop in if you are in the market. The customer service is also excellent – if that’s your marker for whether you will shop there, I assure you that you won’t be disappointed.

not the best music store in ithaca, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad, just different. the selection here is smaller than their binghamton location, but the service here is better. the other 2 stores in ithaca are mostly higher end instruments but McNeil offers more of a range of beginner instruments to some semi-high end stuff. they do have some good amps here, and you’ll often find some good used stuff. i’m not in ithaca as much as i used to be but when i’m in town and looking to kill time then McNeil is a good spot i like to hit up.

I sought out this place to review because the service was really really great. We had an event and the guys there were SUPER helpful. Got all of our amps, cords, cables, systems, etc. for a semi-big concert(250 people) and on the day of, an hour before the concert, couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t working. We called the guys and for no charge they came right over(they were just getting off work) and set it up for us and stayed until we got our sound check through and it was working. We offered to pay them extra since they went way beyond their duties but they refused. I would give them my business again just because of how accommodating and awesome they were. You should give them some business too.
