I love this hair salon because it has all sorts of vintage chairs and décor, and the people who work there are fantastic and cool. I usually get my hair cut by Miss Laura. I go in and tell her to do whatever she thinks is right and it always comes out looking good. For my wedding, she set my hair in pin curls for that 1920s look, which took forever and looked great. They give you tea and cookies while you wait, and if you have extra time, there’s a vintage clothing store and an art gallery on the same block. The salon is a real part of the community. When Laura took over The business, she was setting and cutting hair for a lot of old ladies who had been going there forever. She has a lot of good stories about those days. Check it out!

Just got the BEST haircut from Caitlin! She clearly knew what she was doing and also really listened to everything I was asking for – I haven’t found many stylists who work well with my hair, but she knew exactly what to do. She is amazing, I HIGHLY recommend Caitlin next time you need a cut!

Great kids haircut at a decent price. They knew exactly how to make the kids feel comfortable. But holy hell was it hot in there on a summer afternoon!

Back when I lived in JP I was a regular customer at Miss Laura’s. Emily always did such a fantastic job with my hair and I was thrilled to have another great experience again this summer. A few years ago she helped me make take the plunge to a super short pixie cut and I have been coming back to her any time I am traveling to Boston. She listens to what you want, is great company, and is basically a total pro. Everyone at the salon is super friendly and it has an awesome no-frills, vintage vibe. The prices can’t be beat for a Boston salon too!

I absolutely love getting my hair cut and highlighted at Miss Laura’s. If you don’t have a hair stylist… I highly recommend Dominique. She knows what she is doing and won’t force anything you don’t want upon you. Also: free bang trims!!! Eclectic JP hair salon… check it out! …And grab a sandwich & peanut butter chocolate chip cookie from across the street at Fiore’s bakery because holy deliciousness…

I’ve had both Dominique and Emily cut my hair. They are easy to talk to and, most importantly, do a great job with my hair for a price that’s so much better than other places around here. I’ recommend asking them for their advice with your hair; they definitely know what they’re talking about!

I have been coming here for over a year. Emily is fantastic and does a good job. I am an older woman but still like my hair to be long and I have had had my fill of «scissor happy» hairdressers. Emily cuts off just enough to get rid of the split ends and give my hair better shape. Her color comes out perfect and she is a real pleasure to talk too. I am planning to see her this week before I go on vacation and know I will not need to worry about my hair. The prices here are also very reasonable.

I’m a dude and had a very nice hair cut here. The prices are fair and its very unpretentious. I will definitely be coming back.

I visited Miss Laura’s because I wanted a pixie cut and I was looking for someone not afraid of cutting my hair so short. A friend recommend Miss Laura’s for the task and Laura indeed was the answer! She listened to what I wanted and talked it through with me. We then spent an hour talking while she cut my hair. She took her time getting the haircut just right. The haircut was the best pixie I had ever gotten and I will definitely be going back to JP and Miss Laura’s to get my haircut.

I had my hair cut by Emily yesterday afternoon and I love everything about it! Perfect length and shape without having to give too much instruction before hand. Since it was my first time there I was not aware you could not tip on the card and had to leave without tipping. Emily and the staff were very understanding, but I made sure to come back later that day to give her the tip she rightfully deserved. Will definitely be coming back in the future.

A friend recommended this place to me, and I love that I can walk here. I have trouble getting appointments(phone hours are spotty, few callbacks), but I’ve never been disappointed by the service. Walking into Miss Laura’s is like walking into your favorite vintage shop; the stations are all vintage or retro vanity tables. I’ve had my hair cut here by Scarlett, Emily, and Miss Laura herself, and have never, ever been disappointed. Emily is my favorite because in addition to a great cut(I’m growing my hair out and she keeps it in shape), she also appreciates a good cat story.

I wouldn’t get my hair cut anywhere else, and Emily is the best. I come back to JP for her expertise, despite my recent move to somewhere much farther away than what used to be just 4 blocks. Worth it. She understands how I want my hair cut despite my terrible explanations, and is super sweet and professional. Also their prices are crazy cheap, so it’s like the perfect trifecta of haircuts. I’m a return customer fo’ LIFE.

It was my first time at this Salon and I had an appointment with Emily. I had very high expectations since the place has really good review. Sadly, I left disappointed. She a decent job cutting my hair but didn’t blow dry it! even though I had made an appointment for a cut and blow-dry. She got the water out but didn’t blow dry at all even after I specifically asked her to blow-dry it in soft waves. At the end I didn’t want to make a scene so I didn’t even bother complaining. I ended up going to the Lord’s and Lady Salon in West Roxbury. Had to pay again for someone to blow-dry my hair properly. Never going back to this salon, nor do I recommend it to anyone.

I got my hair cut by Dominique last night and the experience was great. She was running a little late(through no fault of hers) but she was extremely nice. She offered me something to drink and they had a sweet selection of new magazines. I ended up waiting for a while, but I didn’t mind since I’d been squeezed in at the last minute — she even gave me a nice discount at the end. As for the cut, I couldn’t be happier. She was extremely knowledgable and my hair turned out looking great.

I got a fabulous haircut from Dominique this afternoon and am totally thrilled! A good friend recommended Dominique to my sister, who adored her cut + highlights and suggested I make an appointment. My hair is super baby fine and gets straighter when it rains. Dominique gave me a classic bob– a difficult cut to get right. What I loved about the experience: –Dominique listened to what my hair was like and then asked really great questions about how to go about executing the cut. –When I told her about how I use baby powder to soak up oil in my hair, sometimes leaving me looking like a member of a high school production of Arsenic and Old Lace, she recommended a dry shampoo I could get at CVS! –The vibe in the salon was very low key and relaxed– a mix of sweet little old ladies and hipsters. –Price for my super tough to cut bob was *VERY* reasonable. I normally to spend two or three times the price for a hair cut at other salons because the cut is hard to get right.

Incredible! As a low-maintenance lez, I appreciate everything Miss Laura’s stands for. You’ll just have to visit to experience the magic. Emily did a fabulous job.

Just got my 2nd haircut here, and I’m a huge fan. A few reasons: 1. They give you a great haircut. These ladies know their stuff inside and out. I love how my hair looks when I leave– and when it grows out. 2. They’re really super nice. 3. They give you the haircut that you want, but better. I’ve had a number of hair stylists people be like, «We’re going to make you look edgy!». To which I respond, «No, I don’t have an edgy job, please don’t make me look edgy.» And then I walk out with some asymmetrical shenanigans that I explicitly said I didn’t want. These ladies are cool and hip and have purple hair, but they don’t try to give you purple hair if you don’t want purple hair. 4. It’s affordable. AND, they don’t try to upsell you on overpriced junk you don’t need, which I love. Plus, since the price isn’t crazy, I can get my haircut more often, which is better for my hair. 5. The hours are great. 8:30 on a saturday? Late on Thursdays? This stuff matters.

After several horrific experiences with many hairdressers all over Cape Cod, I ventured to Boston after this place came highly recommended by my best friend. The salon is tucked away and is full of history! From the old hairdressing chairs, to the antique scissors hanging on the wall, I immediately fell in love with the atmosphere. As if that wasn’t cool enough, the people that work there are some of the most interesting, fascinating and eclectic people I’ve ever met. You can tell that everyone in the shop is more like family and you instantly feel apart of that when your chatting along with them. On top of the EXCELLENT atmosphere and people there, they all somehow managed to fix my hair!(It took the whole salon standing around me, going… «uhhhh, what happened here?») Scarlett put me at ease as she patiently took hours to correct my horrible hair and her magic worked! My hair hasn’t looked this great, or felt this good in years! She and the other fabulous women there, single-handedly restored my hope in hairdressers and now, they are the only place I will go to. I have gone back once more since my first visit and only fell more in love with the place, the people and the price, which is exceptionally reasonable for a boston salon. This place comes HIGHLY recommended!

Can I just say that this place makes me SO happy. This past month I split up doing the highlights and cut(I wanted the refreshed colour for the wedding but needed the full length). Full foil highlights were $ 90 a few weeks ago. I can handle that. My cut and blow dry was $ 30 this weekend. Just — Wow. In Back Bay I paid $ 50JUSTFOR A BLOWOUT! Scarlett makes my life complete. Dominique is a gem. Emily is super nice. Laura is totally cool. And everyone else whose names I don’t know are all terrific too. Also, I love the new arrangement of the shoppe. Thank God for Miss Laura’s.

I stated coming here about 6 or 7 years ago after paying WAY too much money for a highlights that I hated(my highlights were like Garfield orange) at a «Best of Boston» salon where a haircut was setting me back $ 75-$ 100. Realizing the error of my ways I turned to Unilocal and as a resident of JP stumbled upon the great reviews of Miss. Laura’s Consistent excellent job with hair cuts and highlights. Salon atmosphere is not fancy, this means you are not paying for this in the cost of your services and prices are super reasonable. Has a very funky vibe consistent with JP, always have great conversations when I am sitting for my partial foil. They take Visa/MC for payment but you can’t add your tip to the CC charge so bring cash for your stylist.
