Today I went into Polka Dog Bakery in JP and Sarah helped me with a dog food purchase. She was so helpful and really went above and beyond to help me. I couldn’t thank her enough for helping me. She’s made me a loyal customer for sure!

New to the neighborhood and stopped by here. We’re big animal lovers, and it seemed amazing to have a wonderful local spot where we could buy treats for our pets, 2 scrappy rescue cats and our big goofy Goldendoodle.
Here’s the thing: I think the store itself is awesome. Sure, the food is more expensive, but you’re supporting a local business, so I don’t quibble about that.
However, the young woman working the cash register did NOT greet us OR our dog – not once. Not even when we picked up a tasty treat (a duck stick) and paid for it at the register. Now, we don’t expect people to fawn all over our dog everywhere we go – we don’t think we’re that special – but it’s a pet store! Whenever we take our boy into ultra-​corporate PETCO or Petsmart, he gets treats, head pats, and just a general sense that the people there actually do like animals. We even exclaimed happily over the shop stock within earshot, and the clerk simply refused to interact with us. Whomp whomp.
It was just such a cold, unwelcoming, and downright odd experience. Our pup was well-​behaved and calm the entire time – it’s not like we gave her any reason to snub us. I’ll give it another go, but the initial excitement I felt at having this spot within walking distance has definitely dwindled.

Stopped in expecting a bakery and instead found an array of dried animal parts that are supposed to be «treats» for your pet. I wouldn’t feed that to my dog! The selection of toys etc was interesting, but the lack of any significant amount of baked goods and the overwhelming amount of dried animal parts will keep me from coming back.

Lots of fun dog treats and a well stocked selection of dog good. While the treats can add up quickly the larger bags of food are competitively priced and the staff is very helpful. Most dogs in jp are well aware where this store is located and will eagerly walk in for their favorite treat!

Pet friendly (Dog AND Cat) shop with plenty of treats to choose from. Lots of food options, especially natural-​raw food in their refrigerated sections. The prices are high which is to be expected for a pet boutique store but they have different flavors of treats I haven’t seen other places.
sidenote: If you have a gift card from the South End location, you can NOT use it at a different PolkaDog Bakery location. Their system isn’t linked together. bummer.

My dog loves the treats we get from polka dog. He loves the peanut butter and molasses bites and the chicken jerky. The store is very clean and prices are decent.

This place is awesome! I have a Chiweenie (dachshund & chihuahua mix) named Chili and she LOVES PolkaDog Bakery! They have these chicken treats that look like Crackerjacks and Chili goes nuts over them. We also bought rain socks and a deer antler a few months ago and Chili still has some work left on that antler! Will definitely be back soon!

I have walked by Polka Dog several times since I live around the corner, but i have a cat so i have never stopped in. Decided to give it a go since i was out of food to see if they carried any cat supplies, which they do. The girl was very helpful since they didn’t carry the brand i had been feeding my cat (Natural Choice) to help me select another grain free brand they carry. She also signed me up for a frequent buyers card and the total was less than i would have spent at Petco near my work. Becky the Cat loved her dinner and i am a happy new customer!

PolkaDog is an okay store. I’ve visited plenty of times, and I guess they get a lot of traffic because they don’t ever recognize or remember me. Maybe I’m forgetful. Being that they don’t readily stock the GO! Brand, I have to order it (only did it once, then decided to opt for the Pet Cabaret). I really miss Doguroo in Atlanta — that is by far the best natural pet food store I’ve been to, but that’s because it is multifunctional: washing, kenneling, overnight stay, training, etc. I have a cat and a dog, and I find their cat section just a bit boring, but otherwise I’m there for food anyway.
The only reason I am returning to PolkaDog is because they have better treats and a better rewards program. I’m not loaded, but it’s much nicer to have rewards that accrue faster than a $ 5 discount after $ 599 spent at Pet Cabaret. They’re also next to Monumental Cupcakes and Harvest Co-​Op, so it’s a decent area to hit up several errands if you need to.

So grateful for Polka Dog in JP! I have two cats, and they have a pretty good selection of cat food and toys, litter. I also take care of dogs, so I come in regularly for both. They have an enormous selection of food, toys and treats — it’s literally like a candy store for dogs. Pleasant lighting/​setup, and convenient hours too (til 8 pm)!

This place makes you want to be a dog. Flanking all sides of the center island are treats upon treats showcased as if they are gourmet food.
I’d be interested to hear how many treats they lose a day to a dog that just can’t resist waiting till their owner buys it for them. I went in with a very well trained dog and even she had a hard time resisting the urge to chomp into one of the many dog bones and treats lying around at the perfect dog height.
If you want to treat your dog like a kind, this is the place to do so.

This is a pretty limited review since I don’t have a dog… but I still like this place. All of the treats are fun to look at and there are lots of excited dogs coming in all the time. The store is nice looking, clean, and the staff is friendly. They carry ‘World’s Best Cat Litter’ which is surprisingly hard to find around here. I wouldn’t mind a few more cat toys– the section in the back is pretty small and basic– but I guess they know their focus.

An independent pamper-​your-​pet store that offers up fun products and healthy home-​baked treats for your canine and feline friends. I love it.
The staff is extremely kind, you can tell they absolutely love animals.
It is pet-​friendly (naturally), so bring Fido along to browse their many products: food dishes, leashes & collars, stuffed toys, sqeuaky toys, tough toys, cute toys, big bones, small bones, soft bones, hard bones, baked treats, basted treats, treats in all shapes, sizes and colors imaginable! It’s like the Dr. Seuss of pet stores!

My dog, Gus, loves Polka Dog. He loves the beef and chicken bits. He loves these crunchy duck things. He loves the queso treats. He loves the girls behind the counter that aren’t afraid of him just because he’s a pitbull. He loves all the fabulous toys he’s gotten from there. And he even loves the sporty dog coat we picked him a few weeks ago when we had day after day of torrential downpour.
Luckily for Gus, I enjoy spoiling my animals. And Polka Dog does a damn fine job of feeding my spoiling habit. I don’t think I can walk in the store without coming out with something new for the kitties or dog. There are just so many pluses about this place: it’s awesome; the people are super friendly and nice; they actually charge less for my dog food here than at Skiptons; I get to support a local business; and I get to buy high quality food and accroutrement for my pets– all within walking distance of my house.

Polka Dog bakery is the best pet supply store in Boston for so many reasons. I have been a customer at the South End store for years.
I however like the new JP store better. I think it is beautiful inside. I love the layout.
1. The owner of the store is a local guy.
2. The baked goods are all made locally as in right here in the city of Boston!
3. The store carries many varieties of high end dog and cat foods.
4. The staff are knowledgeable, kind and accommodating. Apparently the JP community has more cat owners than the South End community so they said they would stock more cat things.
5. They carry fun pet accessories and a HUGE variety of treats.
6. They support local rescue causes with fund raisers.
I could go on. I only have good things to say about this fantastic local business.

So glad Polka Dog found their way to JP! I have always been a loyal customer of the South End store and now I have one even closer to home.
Their collars, leashes and toys are so unique and they have many different lines of food. I get all my cat and dog food there and the doggie treat bar is huge… unlike any I’ve ever seen. The selection is really remarkable. Perfect pit stop for me and my pup while we are out walking. Worth every penny!!!

Polka Dog just opened on Thursday. I could not resist the choices of dog treats on the counter: tilapia?! Just be careful, an ounce adds up quicker than you think.
Lots of selection if you’re out shopping in JP and feel guilty about not getting your canine friend a treat. They also have a nice selection of toys, collars, high-​end dog food, etc. Of course, you’ll find yourself buying things for you, not for your dog; at least I did. Seamus now has a sheep that I thought was adorable and which, when I brought it home to him, he attempted to rip its head off. See, this is how they get you… now, I gotta go get another, and some treats, and what the hell, maybe a leash… this is life as a dog owner.
Since Polka Dog just opened, you’ll have to ask about prices, because they’re still in the process of tagging everything. That said, the sales staff is knowledgeable, unflappable, and displayed equal amounts of patience and humor for pets and their people.
