Same Old Place

Horrible delivery experience… the driver forgets my slice of pizza and didn’t even give the impression of him going back and getting the item I paid for…

Although a pricier option than some, the pizza is really top notch. A cheese slice that is nearly New York! Worth the extra dough (see what i did there? –oof).

This was a decent pizza place. The slice was huge, with a nice thin crust and plenty of pepperoni. I think it could have used more sauce as that’s one of my favorite parts of a pizza, but I just asked for more on the side. Very friendly and efficient staff.

Haven’t ordered from here in probably 10 years. I remember it was one of my «go-to’s» when I lived in JP. Wanted something quick and was craving a cheeseburger sub. While living in FL it seems no where made them like back home. So on my visit I decided to get one. Food arrived promptly. I found it odd the driver asked me to come downstairs. 1) I ordered delivery. Shouldn’t it come to the door? 2) I added a note that my apartment was outside and there was no need to go inside the main building. Well the fries were warm, however the sub was barely lukewarm. Not sure I will be ordering from here again. Maybe if I get pizza. If I recall they are more known for that.

I really love the pizza here. Really. I do. I discovered this place almost two years ago and I’ve always thought that they have the most delicious pizza around. I’d love to give these guys 5 stars but, unfortunately, their service leaves A LOT to be desired.
Their delivery times have always been pretty long for me. The first time I ordered, they told me that my order was somehow mysteriously lost in the fax machine or something (I used GrubHub) and rewarded me with a gift card after what was almost a two-​hour wait. Normally, I would never reorder from a place that made me wait so long, but like I said, the pizza was delicious and I had a gift card. However, I don’t think I’ve ever received a delivery from them in under an hour (and I don’t live very far, even in the heaviest of traffic).
To top that off, lately their service has just been sloppy. Twice I’ve called and stated my intention to pay by credit card/​given my card number, only to have the delivery guy arrive expecting me to pay in cash. In January, my pizza was delivered by a guy who reeked of weed. When I opened it, I found that it had been sitting on its side or something during the ride and all of the cheese had slid to one side. I was hungry so I ate it anyway, although this did impact the deliciousness factor a bit, and only after I had eaten it did I realize that I should’ve taken a picture to share on Unilocal.
Now yesterday, I ordered from Same Old Place for the first time since the weed/​sliding cheese incident. I was given a 45-​minute estimate, but my phone records indicate that it took 1 hour and 32 minutes for my pizza to be delivered (ridiculous). I called to check on the status of my delivery at the 1 hour and 7 minute mark and was told that the delivery guy had left «about a half an hour ago,» and should be to my house at any moment. When the delivery guy finally arrives, he of course expects me to pay in cash and I have to give my credit card number again over his phone. The worst part is, I get my pizza back to my kitchen and it’s COLD. Not warm in the slightest. In all of my previous dealings with Same Old Place and long delivery times, at least the pizza has always arrived warm. Cold pizza, in my book, is really the most egregious offense. Nobody has ever eaten a delicious cold pizza (I don’t think). Especially when it cost $ 19 for a large cheese. So, while Same Old Place has the potential to be great, there’s also a pretty significant chance that they just won’t have their shit together.

Thin substantial crust, able to support the super yummy toppings (I had a burger slice). The bottom of the slice was nice and crispy (I see you cornmeal!).
It’s almost ridiculous that this isn’t a 5 star. Oh well f the heaters.

I love this place. I have been going here for 25 years and they have some of the best pizza around. All their other stuff is really good too.
No pretense-​just good food-​and the guys that work there are hot!

I prefer soft, New York-​style pizza and this is by far my favorite pizza place in the area. The deliver (added bonus), but the atmosphere inside is such that I prefer to eat in if I’m walking by.

I’ve been a frequent buyer here at same old place. The family feel I get from the moment I enter door makes me feel like I didn’t enter a pizza joint. They always make food to perfection. Pizza is boom. And they surely know how to make a mean sub

Maybe the food’s changed, or maybe I have, but SOP just doesn’t do it for me anymore. The pizza is bland and the prices are high, and I’ve started to feel sick after eating the food. SOP has revamped the menu a little bit over the last several years, and the quality of the product seems to have declined along with these changes. They don’t serve breakfast any longer, and that was one of my favorite parts about SOP. I’ve had pizzas made with incorrect toppings, and while the service is usually quite good, it just doesn’t compensate for the food, which has gotten so bland. I think it’s the cheese they use, maybe, that’s changed?
At any rate, SOP and I need a break. Hopefully the place turns around.

The rating is for the service, I’ve been coming to the same old place since I was a kid in the 70’s I’ve been gone a few years and back now, I guess these guys are new owners I’ve been going back for the past 8 months and they keep forgetting my order, first couple times I give em the benefit of the doubt, so now it’s predictable, the counter guy seems nice enough but gets flustered easily, the young guy (maybe Spanish) is just straight up RUDE
The cook pretty much keeps to himself and the pizza maker is oblivious to his surrounding, today again when my pizza should have been ready it wasn’t and said I’ll make it for you real fast! What?
So today I bid fear well to the same old place and hello J.P. Pizza by the monument and much friendlier and attentive people

Wow, I’ve been walking and driving past this place for years, but only thought to try their pizza last night, and I was amazed. This is just like the pizza I knew and loved in New York as a kid. The crust was light, yet crisp, with a perfect combination of tomato sauce and cheese. It was perfection. I found myself thinking about that slice of pizza I’d had all day, and just came back this evening with my girlfriend and once again: perfect pizza! My girlfriend ordered the Gluten-​free Pizza, and agrees – this pizza definitely warrants 5 stars!

Ordered a cheese burger sub with Curley fries & a cheese burger. The dries burger I ever had. Very disappointed. First time ordering & last

Royally disappointed in this place. Took 1 hr and 20 minutes to arrive. I ordered a large pizza with peppers and pepperoni and an order of chicken tenders with honey mustard. I received a cold pizza with toppings only on ½ of the pizza and instead of honey mustard, I got bleu cheese dressing. Food was no where near worth that wait or the delivery charges. I do not plan on ordering here ever again!

Love this place! Super yummy pizza and fries! Super friendly people who work here! I caught a situation where a man came in to use the bathroom not realizing its a bathroom for customers only. One of the people who worked there kindly mentioned it to him and then turned that situation into a friendly one asking him if he had caught any fish (having come from Jamaica pond) and joking around with the man and wishing him to have a nice day! How friendly was that!
Overall, I really enjoy coming here into a friendly environment and great food!

I LOVE SAME OLD PLACE! It’s the BEST Pizza in boston! Everyone who works there is so nice and friendly! you can tell it’s a neighborhood hang out when I walk in I feel like I’m part of the neighborhood. The best pizza! Let me say that again the best pizza!
I’ve been treating myself to the 2 slice of cheese pizza and can of soda for $ 5 dollar special for the past 3 years. Tonight I tried grub hub for the 1^st time (super easy)…I ordered buffalo chicken fingers (amazing) and of course because Same old place is so busy that my dressing was forgotten (I understand, it happens) When I called they were so nice and apologetic and I really appreciate that they brought me another one because I know they’re having a busy night. I love same old place and I know you will too!

I ordered two large (pepperoni, sausage&green pepper), 12 piece wings, and a garden salad and the meal turned out to be more than enough for 4 adults + 2 kids. When I first got the pizza, I noticed the steam coming out of the pizza box. It was literally freshly made and straight out of the oven. The pizza was giving off so much steam that it fogged up my car windows. It was crazy.
In terms of taste, I really enjoyed the way the pizza was prepared. The crust was really crunchy the way I like it and they didn’t hold back with the toppings. I don’t live in the area so I don’t order from here on a regular basis, but If i were to live in JP, I would definitely order my pizza from this place!

Happy people work here and they make a solid pie… steak tips are delicious and tender, too!
My mom has been getting her pizza from this location since the late 50s. had a different name but there is something really cool about The Same Old Place actually being just that. JP has changed SO much over the decades and our family is very happy we can continue to go here. My grandparents don’t understand why new pizza places «overthink» pizza (grandfather said this)…just ale a good classic pizza… tasty crust with a little crisp and a little chew– a little grease (greaseless pizza… what is that. Just get a salad. Good pizza cheese creates greasiness when cooked.), seasoning, good prices. Nuff said.

I’m not sure I understand the hype at this place. I’ve only ordered from here once but I was a little disappointed especially with all the good reviews I’ve heard.
I ordered pizza and french fries on a Friday night around 8PM, so mind you, they were very busy.
The woman who took my delivery order was rude and short with me and couldn’t rush me off the phone fast enough. There was an hour wait for delivery, which, for a Friday isn’t that bad I guess.
When the food got to me it was cold. That’s not so much an issue with the pizza but the french fries were a little soggy. They also forgot about my small drink, which came with my order.
I’d give this place another chance but I think next time I’ll skip delivery and go to them.

Visiting from Detroit and friends and I were across the street at JP Licks — I’m less of a sweet-​tooth than my friends, so I was lured by the aroma of pizza and asked my friends (native JP’ers) if SOP does slices all evening?
HELL YES they do — I walked in and got a fresh piece of cheese pizza at 9pm and was one happy girl. I’m a sucker for this exact type of pizza — thin, crisp, tangy sauce and greasy cheese. So simple yet so flavorful.
