Healy’s is a great local pub! The staff is always super warm and welcoming! The food is always hot, fresh and prepared perfectly. The atmosphere is inviting and pleasant. My whole family enjoys going to Healy’s because we feel welcome. The Healy family is awesome!

We have been to Healy’s twice during the day, we were doing a renovation a few blocks away and came in with work clothes on, nobody cared. We were hot, tired, thirsty and hungry. Healy’s Tavern was perfect. We sat at the bar, downed ice cold suds, had delicious simple bar fare, got a reasonable check and left. Music was on but not too loud, a couple of TV’s with sports on, everyone looked happy. We’ll be back.

This place is perfect. Pat the bartender is welcoming and attentive. The food I’ve had was always properly cooked and exactly what I asked for. Reasonable prices. A home away from home.

This a local bar for locals. No fancy over priced menu or beer here. The food is what you would expect in a local bar. No organic free range locally sourced sustainable gluten free anything here. Thank God. This is the place you go to after work and relax. Have a cold beer and talk to Pat or Jerry while waiting for your burger and fries.

This is close to my Uncle’s office, so whenever I pop in he drags me to Healy’s for food and a beer. Granted, this is not my scene at all. It’s like a Kinghts of Columbus public bar, only they serve bar food too. Beer is cheap, but it is cheap beer. You definitely won’t find Lagunitas here. This is a place to work on the All American badge on untappd. Crowd is either blue collar fireman/cops or Hudson County politicos. Mostly republicans. It’s a great place to sit and complain about Fulop and how he only cares about gentrifying downtown JC. Overall it’s worth checking out if you’re tired of the steadily growing pretentious JC bar scene.

Old school Jersey City at its finest(3.2 stars) ! Believe it or not, their bar menu is relatively pretty good! Prices are very, very reasonable and a great quick fix to a bad day at work. Bartenders are attentive, but not overbearing. Locals are fun yet«interesting.» If you live in the area, it’s worth the trip to this neighbor watering hole.

First time in Jersey City, greeted and welcomed by the owner and a brother. Easily my favorite place for several reasons: Prices Quality for said prices Bar food selection Friendliness And this one is a little biased but super convenient to walk to for myself. If you are around Grove or Journal Square, it’s definitely worth the several minute walk. If I am around Grove and I’m being charged an arm and a leg for regular draft beer– I always suggest just going here. Less crowded, better to talk, just love it.

Rib eye steak sandwich was the best. Mayor Healy singing my way was fun.

Great service and the only place in the area where you can grab JUST a drink. No bougieness here which is rare in this area of JC.

This place might not be your cup of tea, but it’s right up my alley. An old time(some would call dive) bar that seems a bit frozen in time, in a good way. Belly up to the horseshoe shaped bar and order up some cheap, cold beers and discuss the goings on around town with the regulars. The game is always on, the jukebox is 3 songs for a buck and well stocked with classics. I’ve yet to try the food yet, but I will eventually. Given the amount of it that seems to flow out of the kitchen, I’m guessing it’s pretty decent pub food.(chicken wings, sandwiches, etc). A true neighborhood joint, conveniently located in my neighborhood. I’ll be back, time and again. See you there.

Great bar downtown. The bartenders know your name and shake your hand. A place where one can feel very comfortable. Patrick and Andrew will make sure your glass is never empty. Bottoms up!

Nice local neighborhood bar. Mostly an older crowd mixed with firemen. Which makes sense since the owners are firemen. The Healys are good people and make you feel welcomed when you walk in. Odd space inside. Central bar in the middle and seating all around it. Food is great. Standard american bar fare. Reasonably priced drinks and booze. Happy hour is even better. Recommend stopping by. It’s real Jersey City. Have Fun

Very blue collar divy cop bar. Cheap beer and decent jukebox. I’ve had dramatically different experiences over the 7 or so times I’ve visited. I’ve met 2 bartenders(one an owner) who were extremely attentive and friendly. And 3 other bartenders who ranged from inattentive to plain rude. It’s an odd feeling to be overtly ignored in a mostly empty bar. I was more surprised than offended. Fortunately for me and others subjected to the«Healy screening process», there are tons of great and more welcoming alternatives nearby. *Not that it should matter but: I did politely greet each host, dressed business casual, and I always tipped well over 20% except in the case of the guy who went out of his way to ignore my friend and I.

The beer here is cold and cheap. The beer is exceptionally cold, I don’t think I can think of a place that serves colder beer in JC. The fries are good(I have never eaten anything else here). Generally, this place is chill. This is a place you can drain a beer or five with a friend while kinda paying attention to the sports on the TV’s. There are bars with better, liquor, food and cocktails in JC. But if you just want cold cheap beer and some awesome fries, this place can’t be beat.

I’m updating my review, Healy’s is definitely worth checking out. Very friendly vibe on a Saturday night, and service was outstanding. Come here on Sunday’s, they have the NFL package and you can see out of market games(GOLIONS). Good football crowd on Sunday’s. On Weekends 11PM and earlier is for a bit of an older crowd, but everyone is welcome and if you like to belt out Sinatra standards you’ll be at home here. Great bar tenders and good prices on drinks.

I had to wait for a friend who was suppose to meet me across the street for filopino bbq. NFL games were on and my beer was $ 3. It’s the local’s watering hole. Place is not bad. I can’t comment on the food here. I agree with John M.

Chi-Town has bars. Bahston has baahs. New York bars. Jersey City has bars too. …but it seems if you are a JC Cop or Fireman, you have Healy’s. Nice atmosphere(if you arent a hipster or college student). Adultish Blue-collar crowd. Classy music always playing. Good place to have a drink. Bad place to get drunk.

Healy’s Tavern isn’t just a great place for a beer and music. It is by far the BESTPLACETOEAT A CHEESESTEAKSANDWICH!!! The steak is a nice cut rib eye steak, cooked the way you like it, topped with a cheddar cheese peppers and onions. The steak is so tender and flavorful. For around 8 bucks u get the cheese steak and a side of fresh cut fries. I have been here several times and my go to place for a brew and a cheese steak.
