It was a Sunday afternoon… And I was experiencing some car trouble. I had just dropped off my vehicle down the block and was told that I would have to wait a couple of hours for repair. As this area is filled with warehouses and business that are closed on this holiday weekend… I find myself walking over to this singular spot of human presence. I sit at the bar and am quickly assisted by the barkeep. He supplies me with a crisp cold mug of hard cider. At a mere $ 4 I have a couple of glasses before asking about food options. The leather backed menu he provided far exceeded my expectations. I went with a burger; perfect bar food right? Well let me just state that the burger was juicy and well seasoned. Definitely no deep frozen premade patty there. The thick slices of bacon and full sized bun really rounded out and complimented this scrumptious sandwich. The fires were extra crispy; just the way I like it. The venue has a couple of tvs with a variety of sports and definitely had a local feel to it. Very laid back and low key without the noisy dirty attributes you may come to expect from other places this deep in Jersey City. The fact that my bill barely came to $ 20 made this experience that much better.

I tried them again. NOCHANGE, I stick by the one star … The chicken wings absolutely S***ked. Hard as rocks and dry as sand… they had the nerve to think smothering the wings in BBQ sauce and microwaving them would make them moist. Fries were good, Jalapeño poppers very good. Lively bar crowd after 6Pm but it was St. Patrick’s Day usually this place is boring, empty and quiet.

I see all these reviews and I guess they must have changed ownership because this place is pretty bad. Its sketchy but I believe in giving places a chance. The first time I came here with friends we had drinks and jalapeño poppers, chicken wings, and mozzarella sticks. The food was alright tasted frozen then thawed. I asked for celery with the wings and the bartender came back and said they ran out. So instead he gave up apple slices. Bizarre but in a strange way it was a good combo either that or I was just really hungry and desperate. We went back a few weeks later after work. Had drinks… We started to order food but the bartender said they had no cook. That the last cook just up and left and never came back. REALLY!!! We asked if they so much as had chips or crackers. something because we were so hungry. The bartender told us no and that he had olives instead. We declined. The other bartender told us we could order food and have it delivered there as a lot of the patrons do. Will never come back!!!

The food used to be great but since they got a new cook, they mess up orders all the time. The best thing is the bar !! Friendly staff and pretty reasonable prices

Service is not always great, but the food is above decent for a bar, and the drink deals are random and frugally helpful. I often order the nachos, which are specially seasoned and doused in ground meat and a river of cheese. There are lots of televisions, a juke, comfy seats at the bar, and easy parking on the street. the local business employees flock,(car dealerships and university folk). no-nonsense boozing without a pretentious hipster vibe.

While the ambiance and décor are amazing, the service was lacking. We had to remind the waitress numerous times of our order, whether it was another drink or our salad. To give her credit, she was the only person manning the bar and dinning area. I ordered a 14oz steak with hopes of taking some home for a steak and eggs breakfast, however, my 14oz steak turned out to be a 4oz steak after I cut all the fat off and was extremely bland. The chicken finger basket my daughter ordered turned out to be a chicken cutlet sliced into pieces. Needless to say, I won’t be dining here again!

Local neighborhood bar that is extremely convenient for me. Food has been an issue. Kitchen did not seem knowledgeable and I am not a fan of the pulled pork. Ranch dressing seemed old and like it was left out. Have to say the Italian sandwich was superb! Blackened perfectly and very tasty. Walk here on Sundays for football and there is a decent crowd. I like that despite the neighborhood there is always a very good group of patrons here. Will stop by again for sure.

I really want to like this place, it has so much potential. The inside is modern and beautiful, with surprisingly good food. Sadly there’s something lacking to this place, and I cannot put my finger on exactly what it is.

Great local bar with cheap drinks and good food! Great crowd on a weekend night. I love the pool table in the back and outdoor seating. Definitely will make this my regular bar!

Honestly? I like the Jersey City attitide the bartenders have here. It gives real character to the place, and it’s not like O’Abbey’s is in Paulus Hook or Port Liberte. Its attitide and demeanor lets you know where in JC you are. So suck it up and drink. Or you can suck it up and play pool, or suck it up and pick songs out of the juke box. I didn’t have a chance to try the food so an update in the future might be in the works. Last words: A good, unpretentious place to grab a drink with friends. The attitude matches the area and neighborhood. Give ‘em the JC attitude right back, I say!

In a quest to find a bar that’s close to home(so that we could all get trashed, and no DD required), my boyfriend and best friend opted for O’Abbeys. We were ID’d at the door, where the bouncer so willingly searched my bag. You know, just in case we smuggled some draank into there. I won’t comment of the bar food, because we didn’t have any, but I’m sure the drinks were exactly that — drinks. The service on the other hand, I CAN comment on. The bartender — super pretty with her bouncy hair and smooth skin — couldn’t match her personality to her face for shit. She was more into taking shots with her friends and socializing than doing her job, even catching an attitude when my best friend placed is order, interrupting her fun. Then, you turn Around by the entrance and the bouncer is getting it on with the drunkest girl in the place. Awkward! Two stars because Evelyn the DJ was there doing her thing with Karaōke.

Came here with Liz D to see if we could get splashed and mugged at the same time… I mean, this is the wessst siiiide of JC. Patrons: Homeboys from the nabe, New Jersey City University(NJCU) white chicks, old dudes watching sports on the many flat screens(not stolen yet) and old-school Joe Pesci-lookin Italians talking trash. Music: There was freestyle, hip hop, pop and cheese-ball tracks pumpin. Draaanks: $ 7.50 top shelf mixed drinks. Bartender: Big dude with a dirty shirt looked like a union worker/carpenter/electrician * We didn’t get jumped but I sobered up REALQUICK when we walked out the door.

For the area, it is definitely a good change of pace. With football season well underway, O’Abbey’s is a great place to stay for a Sunday. It’s a recently renovated place that looks gorgeous and has tons of natural light. There are about a dozen huge flat panel HD TVs and the perks don’t stop there. O’Abbey’s has a solid draft beer selection and great deals on pitchers with appetizers(wings, mussels, and more). The food isn’t exactly cheap, but it’s pretty darn good. Some of the regular bar sandwiches have a a gourmet flare to them that is pretty impressive. Picture Bar Food A’laronge. If you are in the West Side neighborhood of Jersey City, then you should definitely have O’Abbey’s as your mainstay for lazy football Sundays!

Should be 3 ½ Stars. The food is pretty good and it has decent prices. The pool table is cool as well as the outdoor tables in the back. Too bad the service has to improve though. One friend had to wait 30 minutes for his Buffalo chicken wings because they forgot about his order. My other friend got the wrong beer. It is a nice place and if the service improves, OAbbey would be one of the places to go to.

Nice addition to the neighborhood. Food isn’t as good as Abbeys in Downtown JC, but it wasn’t bad either. I have to go back and try few other items off the menu and then rewrite this review. Lets see. Fairly new place so ill give it another try.

Came here for lunch on St. Patrick’s Day with my friend instead of going to the usual downtown JC pub. Thought we’d support the(very) local businesses in our ‘hood for a change, and also because I’ve been super curious about the place after driving past it on a daily basis. Just like the previous reviewer, I was also pleasantly surprised! I could see that they had more than just the typical Coors Light or Heineken(don’t even know if they did have Coors Light) from all the signs on the windows but they had some really good taps!(I’d list them here but I have a memory of a fish so… just check them out for yourself). We started with the buffalo wings and it was yummies! I think my friend would’ve taken me outside to fight for the last one on the plate. I had the Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad and those croutons… those weren’t croutons – they were large pieces of bread! My friend had a burger, and although I don’t eat beef, I had to try it(and since it was St. Patty’s Day, why not?). It was delicious. Everything was delicious! As for the place, you really don’t feel like you’re in that part of JC. It still had that new bar smell, all the TVs you can ogle and a pool table in the back. They really did a great job fixing the place up. And now that the weather is warmer, I’m sure it’ll be even more inviting when they open up the pretty french doors to let the warm air in. My friend and I have claimed it as our new happy hour hangout. Close to home and easily accessible by bus(#80 or Society Hill) or Light Rail. We will definitely be back!

What a pleasant surprise this place is! My neighborhood *really* needed a place like this. Amidst a sea of Chinese take-out counters, pizza parlours &99 cent stores, a friendly sit-down place like O’Abbey’s is a much-needed and much-appreciated bright spot in this part of town. Their french fries are delicious. They have veggie burgers. They have good coffee. The waitstaff was very friendly and accommodating. The owners really fixed this place up and I have to say, it looks fantastic. It’s like a downtown Jersey City joint, only it’s in West Bergen! LOVE it. Thank you, thank you, thank you O’Abbey’s!!!
