This review is for solely the reasons mentioned. However it is not the food. So, the food here is very authentic and delicious. But, every time I have ordered food from them or picked up food, they never give you cutlery to eat your food. How is one suppose to eat without a spoon or a fork? Secondly, the website says free delivery even then they charged me $ 3 extra. I don’t have a problem if they would have mentioned it on while placing my order that we will charge delivery fees. You have to order minimum $ 20 food and pay delivery fees, thats ridiculous. The food is the best.

Always happy with Sapthagiri. It’s such a great vegetarian Indian option. We always go on the weekend, so it’s typically very busy. We’ve always been seated quickly and the service staff is wonderful. We typically try out new dishes each time we go. The servers are always knowledgeable about the menu and helpful with any questions. The portions are great and the flavors are perfect. High recommend.

Could’nt get a seat despite waiting for 45 mins. The staff was least bothered about the customers waiting in line to get a seat. It was a chaotic environment and no one knew who was in line and who had come earlier.

The Wednesday buffet is so worth it. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about what is vegan and what isn’t.

Was clearly superior to any other Indian restaurant in Jersey City, and I’ve tried a few. The friend who joined me is very particular about cleanliness. Sapthagiri was spotless. What was truly amazing was the Chilly Gobi, The Dal Kichidi, Dal Malchimi and their Dosa’s are the real deal! I asked to meet the chef, and had the good fortune of meeting Selva. He was gracious and very informative about Indian cuisine. If you are in Jersey City on business, as I was, you will want to consider taking a client to Sapthagiri. It can make the right impression for you and the food is delicious. They also have some terrific buffet specials around $ 11.99 on certain weeknights.

This was my first time trying this spot. I’ve gotten around to most of the Indian places in Jersey City, which are all well known to be really poor with delivery services. I tried the Chana Masala Curry, the phulka and masala idly. All were really well prepared and flavorful, without being heavy or greasy. The chana masala in particular was one of the best. Better yet, the delivery took less than an hour. Overall great first experience.

This was a fantastic place and I would definitely go again. I ordered the North Indian Thali and my boyfriend got the South Indian and we thought they were both fantastic. The prices are not what are displayed on the menu(ea Thali is listed on the menu as $ 12.99, and we paid 13.99, but I really didn’t care bc it was a ton of food), and what was even nicer was I asked to take the rest of my thali home, and they packed it up for me and topped off all of my little containers. The staff was so unbelievably friendly and helpful. I thought the thalis were small and was going to order a dosa with it and they said it would be way too much food — and they were right. I appreciated they weren’t trying to just make money off of us and wanted us to be comfortable and happy. They answered all questions and were extremely courteous and gracious. I am eager to go back!

Parking is an issue on the weekends… you must be a city driver warrior and not intimidated with the traffic… and you’ll find your spot. We like this place. It can get crowded, but you don’t really(or we’ve never) had to wait long. Get the sampler meal… Northern, Southern, Gluten Free, Vegan… it’s really quite comprehensive a menu. Hubby loves the gigantic dosas… which I find humorous as it shows up as a GIANT Crêpe on a dish…

This is the best vegetarian S/N Indian food in the area. The owner is amazing, and always has a smile on his face. When my dog was alive his staff would bring a bowl of water for him, while I dined outside. Take out portions are huge and can generally feed you for three meals!

Best in JC. Love the food. So generous with their portions. Vegetarian food that remains healthy and yummy!(As opposed to other vegetarian places that over compensate for the lack of meat by making the food extra spicy, salty or greasy.) This place has good karma. Look at their loyal following!

Love their South Indian thali! The yogurt that comes as part of the thali is aahhmazing! At 12.99, it’s definitely worth it. I plan on their dosas next time.

The prices have increased and the quality and portion of the food definitely have decreased. $ 2 for chai, $ 6 for samosa chaat with 1 samosa, $ 4 for 2 medu vada’s and $ 3.50 for 2 idili is highway robbery! Furthermore, the prices posted outside the restaurant are completely different than the prices inside.

I would like to give negative rating to this restaurant. Two occasions and then we stopped going to this place. 1) We went for dinner and ordered a lunch before our next day international flight. We ordered 2 thali’s and the food was okay but it had too much of soda. We both suffered with upset stomach whole night. 2) After the first experience we just went to this place to get the kulfi’s(to-go). On one of the occasion the kulfi they gave had fungus on it so we went back to return — to which the cashier/owner was not very pleased. Instead of being sorry — he just mocked the situation! A stupid thing to do when the fault is in food! I would not recommend this place to anyone.

One of my favorite restaurants, if not my fav, is Sapthagiri. Yet another wonderful meal last evening. Food is always fresh, flavorful & delicious; service is over the top — friendly attentive & informative. We had Rasam, Mysore Bajji, Gobi Manchurian, Vegetable Biryani, Alu Mutter & finish with a great dessert Rava Kesari.

Service not up to the mark and quality very poor. Sambhar was cold all the time. Informed the person at the billing counter that quality was not good enough, and he replied«Today we are busy, that’s why». My suggestion that if you are not able to provide the service than its better to let busy go.

This place is amazing! They have great Northern and super duper Southern Indian dishes! Not only is the food ahhhmazing but also the service is so warm, friendly and attentive. They check in frequently and are so coordinated and fast! Dosas are huge! Utappam are fluffy! I have bought their dosa and idli batter to go several times along with take-out. Once I did this I could no longer eat the store-bought batters. Theirs is SO fluffy and the taste is smooth with no major yeast flavor. Texture, taste, crisp when cooked as dosa!!! Among the TOP! My partner is a traditional Malayalee and we both reeled from their Rasam! Rasam is an almost gravy flavored(not gravy textured) vegan soup. It is pretty spicey, but really makes you feel so good! In South India they use this soup like we use chicken soup when not feeling well. It works even better than chicken soup to be honest. We had the North Indian Thali this week and omg we took ever morsel home. It was huge and well really amazing! I ordered a side of Naan and this, too was fabulous! I am obsessed with their South Indian okra dishes too… I don’t often rave like this, but man is it top notch! Even on a Monday, when restaurants are not that full, Sapthagiri has every seat filled with smiling customers. It is a gem! And totally worth a trek even from the city! Fantastic find!

Disaster!!! Never ever gonna try it again. Ordered Mysore Masala, Paper Dosa and Butter Paper dosa. The Mysore masala was so disgusting, they just stuffed the masala at one corner instead spreading it evenly across the dosa. The Butter Paper masala was like eating a rubber tyre. It was so soggy that it was the nightmare from the first bite itself. We also ordered Chhole Bhature. The Puri was good but when my friend had the first bite of chhole he almost threw up. In the end, there was a complimentary Sevaiya with the order and for us, it was really delicious and something a MUST try stuff out of all. IMHO, dont try Dosas but go for something else.

I enjoyed the Tuesday night buffet. The basics like vegetable biryani were good and I experienced many ingredients I couldn’t identify or explain. When I occasionally go on three-day vegetarian stints(to make up for years of meat) it’s great to find such active flavors. The kadai paneer was probably my favorite item.

Went there for dinner and didn’t have a good experience. The waiter was very weird, he was rushing us the whole time and rude. The service was sub par and not that i had high expectations but the server’s attitude just threw me off. To talk about the food, I ordered the paneer mysore masala dosa, it was okay, not very tasteful, the coconut chutney was very watery. We also order onion chilli utappam Which was so thick that we ate two bites and were done eating. Sambhar was watery too and was served in sip size bowl. Not returning this establishment again!

Went here for dinner and without a doubt the best thing we got was the deep fried curry cauliflower. It was very flavorful and crispy and just had a nice colorful presentation. Sadly this was high point for this visit. I thought I’d be a little adventurous with what I ordered so I went for the ‘pongal’ which was lentils, rice, curry leaves, and cashews which I didn’t really taste. The pongal was filling but it had like no taste, even with the little sauces they provided it still was blah. I ate about a 3rd of it and just got bored of it. It didn’t taste bad, just bland. I had some of the channa masala — chickpeas and rice which is kind of a staple at these kinds of resturants but it was good, and should’ve went with that. The resturant was a nice size, mostly indian families with small children. Bright and lots of servers all of whom will help you so it didn’t appear to be assigned waiters. They did an ok job too, one server asked about the meal and I gave him my honest opinion as written here. The other kicker here is that it is minimum of $ 20 on card payment which is not as bad as the dreaded cash only, but its enough to drop a star. So if you like vegetarian based indian food I’d say its ok, they seem to really cater to large groups ans families with many deals.

I dream about this place. Definitely my favorite Indian restaurant of Little India. I love their Vegan Thali and their Banglore Masala Dosa. Their servings are quite generous and always tasty. They have many Vegan dishes to choose from plus a few yummy deserts too. During the summer months, you can enjoy their dining al fresco. The waiters are always very courteous and fleet. Even when they’re busy you don’t wait long to be seated. I highly recommend this place to all my friends and find myself eating here quite a lot ;)
