Do not expect authentic thai food here. The papaya salad was tasteless and the shrimp basil could’ve passed as any other shrimp dish. Seemed like they put it together in a hurry. They also promptly start winding up at 10pm.

Went Sunday after long eventful filled fun with my daughters. Food was okay waitress was pleasant. It’s what happened after which is unacceptable. I paid bill with my credit card, but gave cash for tip. Waitress took tip first which was unusal. I didn’t mind because I put it in folder along with my card to pay bill. When she brought my card back with merchant copy receipt to sign. I signed and said to my oldest she snacked the cash quick($ 12 tip). Before we left the table an older woman came by our table and took the bill folder. My daughters and I exit the restaurant. We were 500 yards from the restaurant and another waitress that did not serve us ran out yelling you did not tip. I was at the corner of Grove an Newark by then. My oldest calls me back. I did not hear what was going on. I walked back thinking really??? By the time I get back in front of the restaurant my daughter tells me what is happening then the waitress that ran out runs back in and another comes out to apologize saying they didn’t know I gave tip already. WTF!## They just lost a customer and anyone I know I will tell them don’t go to this place.

Food is okay, ordered a beer that was on the happy hour, they gave me other beer that wasnt, when i cut that difference from the tip, the waiter actually followed me and asked to leave at least 15% tip. Disappointed

Pretty disappointing experience. Came here with a friend for a late-night dinner. We ordered the spicy seafood noodle soup and the tom yum seafood hot pot. Despite being $ 8 more, the hot pot seemed to contain exactly the same ingredients as the noodle soup(minus the noodles), and had barely any flavor at all. The seafood itself wasn’t great, either. Would maybe come here again if I was in the mood to get Thai food and wasn’t willing to travel, but probably not. On the plus side, the lychee martinis were nice and strong.

Came here for take out only. The Pee Mow with chicken was pretty good and the curry puff as an app. I also tried the Saigon Curry Noodles, it wasn’t bad but i didnt love it. I got bored of the taste after awhile. I come back hete again to try other food. Portions are decent sharing two entrees and an app is plenty between two people.

The food here used to be pretty tasty around a year ago, but things have definitely changed. We ordered 4 dishes overall, and ¾ were pretty bland. Had to add hot sauce to all to get any kind of extra flavor. Our waitress also had the audacity to ask why we only tipped 15% instead of 20%(«everyone usually tips 20% if there’s good service») as we were on our way out the door. I thought this was pretty unprofessional.

Seriously bland and tasteless Thai food. Underwhelming, no flavor, and just plain depressing. Two visits and each was a waste of time and money. Pad Thai? Flavorless. Noodle soups? Flavorless. Tofu satay? Terrible. Curry puff? Barely mediocre. Go elsewhere, your stomach and wallet will thank you. I’m done…

By far the worst Thai food I’ve ever had. I ordered the Pad Thai and my husband ordered the Drunken Noodle. My Pad Thai tastes like nothing. A piece of toast has more flavor than my meal. I want to eat it so it doesn’t go to waste but I don’t want to waste the calories on this flavorless waste of ingredients. Drunken Noodle isn’t much better. It was ordered spicy so at least there’s something added to the noodles. Stay far away.

Used to love this place, but the past month or so it’s seriously gone downhill. I love red curry, and Sawadee used to have great red curry. Lately, though, it’s half oil and have curry sauce. It’s disgusting. I’m forced to literally pour out half my order of chicken red curry just to eliminate some of the oil that’s one inch thick on their takeout. I wish I was exaggerating on just how much disgusting oil is in their takeout curry the past month or so. And dumplings. They’re still tasty and decent dumplings, but now they don’t even give you half a portion of dipping sauce. You’re lucky if the container is ¼ filled. Sawadee, whatever you changed you need to change it back to how it was because your quality has gone in the shitter.

I have been ordering from them alot ever since I moved to jersey city. This place has never disappointed me. Their panang curry is delicious. And also my regular order is drunken noodles both the dishes are authentic thai. When you order dont tell them to make it hot spicy their hot spicy is REALLLLYYYYREALLLLYYYYYHOT. I made that mistake once and I had to throw the food. Apart from that it s a good thai joint.

I don’t know what it is with me and meh Thai places lately. I ordered takeout from here one rainy night. I had the Pad Thai. It didn’t even taste like how Pad Thai should taste. First, the noodles had this weird(plastic-y?) taste to it. Then, the whole thing was just bland overall. I had to douse it with sriracha just to make it palatable. The curry was something else. I’m not even sure I could call it curry. Coconut water would be a more accurate description Surprisingly, the General Tso’s chicken wasn’t bad. A tad salty, albeit — but it was a welcome change after having some of that Bad Thai(as my boyfriend nicknamed it). Maybe their Chinese dishes are more their forte. That’s what usually happens at these«fusion» places. Usually one cuisine is not bad and the other is just not good. And the search for amazing Thai food continues! Stay tuned…

I enjoy this place. I’ve been here a handful of times and every time was a pleasant experience. I don’t eat meat so I love the fact they have the veggie dishes section of the menu. All very decently priced as well. It has never been too loud every time I come which is a good thing. I love a quiet atmosphere. The waiting staff are fast, attentive, and respectful. Will definitely be coming continually in the future.

Was looking for a decent Thai spot,(note that I said ‘decent’…not looking for great or even good, just a DECENT place). This is NOT it. I had already seen all the reviews indicating how terrible the service is, but I’d be willing to deal with terrible attitudes as long as those attitudes were serving me good Red Curry. Unfortunately this place sucks, not only because of its nonexistent customer service, but also because the food is just awful. I tried the red curry with chicken and also the pad Thai. The red curry was awful, it had a weird vinegary flavor to it with spice. I could tell from the flavor that no coconut milk was used, which made sense since it was so watery it looked like a broth. The pad thai was the last chance for redemption, but it again failed on all counts. I’m not one of these wackos who complains about grease all day-all day but the noodles were COATED in a flavorless slime. Which sums up the food here: flavorless, and a little gross. As I said, it’s one thing to have bad service — I’ll deal with that if the food’s great. But this place has TERRIBLE Thai food and they treat you like they’re doing you a favor. Save yourself the trouble and give this a pass

I work in Jersey City(Exchange) and am always looking for a great Thai restaurant nearby. Sawadee, I would say, is the best Thai restaurant there is in Jersey City. Blows Sky Thai out of the water! Completely! Their restaurant is dimly lit and intimate. Though I’ve only ordered takeout from here, it seems like a great atmosphere for an intimate dinner as well. Interior is very pretty. Try their pad thai and pad see ew. Both great noodle dishes, and not too sweet/fishy/saucy either like you’d typically find elsewhere.

This place was decent. If possible, i’d give it 3.5 stars. We had the chicken satay and the steamed veggie dumplings, both were good but not sure i’d order either again. The Spicy Lemongrass Chicken with rice lacked the lemongrass taste/smell, almost thought I ordered the wrong dish. The Pad Kee Mao was decent but needed more spice. Energetic vibe on a Saturday evening with good service.

Very solid pick to satisfy a Thai or a Chinese food craving. I’ve only taken out so far, but am looking forward to dining in soon. Especially since they’ve got such a beautiful and serene interior. After drawing from Unilocal pictures for inspiration, I decided to go with an order of shrimp pad thai. There was a fair portion of shrimp — I think it came with 5 or 6 and they were pretty large. The dish was really unique, and in addition to the usual bean sprouts, crushed peanut and egg there was also large chunks of tofu, thick scallions and sautéed red onion. Everything added an ample amount of crunch and color to the meal, was rich in flavor and was delivered hot and fresh. I also had a side order of curry puffs which were stuffed to the brim with a delicious curry mixture. A tad oily, but still very enjoyable. My boyfriend almost always orders drunken noodles(pad kee mao) and although he liked it, he was disappointed with the lack of spice. Even I was able to handle the spiciness of the dish, which is definitely saying alot because I can’t tolerate any spice. It was basically just like pad see ew, with some extra black pepper on top. Still delicious pad see ew at that, but just wasn’t what he had expected. Lack of spice aside, we both loved our dishes and will definitely keep Sawadee in the rotation when looking for Thai food in the neighborhood.

The starter was okay… Coconut shrimp seem a little gummy… The Green Thai Curry with squid was decent. The servers were dry and non-friendly, smiling would have made a tad bit pleasant experience. Therefore they get ZERO stars for service.

0 Star. Absolutely horrendous delivery experience. I order delivery all the time to many many many places and I’ve experienced all kinds o horror delivery experience but this one takes the cake. Told me food was downstairs, I go downstairs only for the guy to have only just left the place. Misleading because they think you’ll take long to meet them so they make you wait instead. Waited in the lobby for 20 minutes only for him to have arrived at the wrong address because the lady over the phone basically half consciously record my address. Its not even the language barrier, its the lack of effort to even get the information right. I called back to tell them the mistake and of course the person the other line just autonomously just said yes to everything to get me off the phone, even know I didn’t ask any questions that warranted a «yes» response. Will not be ordering here again. Oh and to top it off, my thai tea I had to order to meet the delivery minimum came in a soup cup.

Hummmm sawadee it’s more of a 3.5 star dined here twice service was ok messed my order up once but the service is really fast here so I didn’t have to wait long. The ambiance of this place is nice lo lit dining area with plenty of seating and nice décor. The food here was decent Ive had better Thai elsewhere. I tasted the pad Thai with shrimp it was packed with flavor maybe a little too salty for me and the noodles seemed over cooked. Also tasted the drunken noodles with Chicken I enjoyed hem a little better. But again maybe a little too salty fort taste buds. the shrimp qoon qa po were very tiny and way over priced and over cooked. and the Thai dumplings had a weird taste to me.
I haven’t tried those happy hour but if u want a decent noodle dish it’s a good spot.

Inexpensive and tasty. Great happy hour specials on appetizers. Nice space. I can’t comment on the«authenticity» of the food here, because let’s be honest, I’m a born and raised Jersey guy. I can only compare to what I’ve had at other restaurants around, and compared to them, this place is mad decent. I’ve been here a few times, and the service is good. I would agree with other reviews that it is more«Asian fusion» than straight Thai, but if you’re looking for some decent«Asian fusion» food and don’t care to break the bank, give these guys a shot.
