A must stop when my wife and I visit Charleston. The is our first visit at this new location. The space is beautiful with a lot more seating, but you also loose some of the«dive» feel of the original location. The food is still incredible. The duck fat fries are a must with whatever you order. Service was excellent and friendly.

The food is very good and there is ample space to eat. I had the Thanksgiving Sammy; roasted turkey, cornbread stuffing, cranberry sauce, mayo, & crispy onions on toasted wheat. It was very good and worth $ 9.75.My husband had the big Tony; Italian sausage patty, mozzarella cheese, marinara sauce, & sautéed peppers & onions on a toasted hoagie. It was also very good and well worth the price. His only complaint was the roll was cut through so he had to use a knife and fork to eat it because it fell apart. The Duck club is $ 14.75, and it is a very good sandwich, but a bit on the pricey side. If you get the Duck club and a basket of fries it is over $ 20 for one person. We will go back again, I want to try the weekend brunch.

I’ve been to the downtown location a few times, but this was my first time on John’s Island. The building has a cool, relaxed vibe, and I liked the open air garage door set up. Not sure how it will be with mosquitoes, but a good concept. Definitely a good spot on John’s Island. I don’t have anything against Tattooed Moose, but it’s just doesn’t do it for me like so many other places in Charleston. It’s not bad, it’s just not great, IMHO. I’ve gotten the duck club twice. Once downtown, once at this location. I am not a picky eater and I like food in general, but both times I have just had a «meh» experience. It’s a good sandwich, but not $ 14 good. This particular time, the bread was very soggy and the sandwich fell apart. I ended up just picking through it. There were also little to no garlic aioli. Sad times because that stuff is good. My bf was into his hamburger(he added cheddar and bacon), so maybe I’ll order that next time. The service left much to be desired, but that was because they were understaffed. Our sandwich and burger were more on the cold side and it appeared that they had been sitting while waiting for our fries which came out piping hot. The cheese on my sandwich had already started to harden from the melty goodness it’s supposed to be. That’s what sitting under a heat lamp will do. Must orders — fries w/garlic aioli(make sure you ask for extra because we got a shamefully small amount and didn’t see our waitress again until she brought the check).

Of all the places I’ve eaten in Charleston, this one still is my favorite. The tattooed moose downtown is a little sketchy, but food still great! This one on johns island has the best atmosphere! The roasted garlic and blue cheese fries are a must! Definitely a place that’s great to stop for lunch if you’re headed out to the Angel Oak!

The food at Tattooed Moose Is always good. I’ve been there three times and have tasted the duck club,(4.5 stars) Thanksgiving(4 stars) gyro(4) and pastrami(2). Duck fat French fries are not nearly as good as McDonalds. The club was very soggy and fell apart on one occasion. The homemade pickles and green tomatoes were superb. Ambience is poor. The temperature is never near comfortable. On my last visit it was 70 deg outside and the AC kept the inside in the 60s. It was not only uncomfortable, the AC also drew in cigarette smoke which was nasty. The music is loud So forget about conversation. Every time I’ve been there the windows were wide open, which I like. Service was pretty bad. Food and drinks arrived via auction. Who had the club? Who ordered the turkey? The overall impression is of chaos, like there are no grownups in charge. The server stopped by multiple times asking leading questions like Is everything delicious? I felt hectored, as if words were being put in my mouth. Very good sandwiches, spotty service, minimal ambience.

Duck. Fat. Fries. I honestly didn’t know that there was a Tattooed Moose on Johns Island, or I probably would have been here a lot sooner. Some local friends had visited the day before and mentioned it to us, so out we went on Sunday night to see what we could find. Of course, we had to try the fries, because everyone raves about the duck fat fries. You can get them with blue cheese, gravy, or plain. We went plain on this round. For the entre, I ordered the thanksgiving sandwich. It’s literally everyone you think should be in a thanksgiving meal, in between two slices of bread, with a bowl of gravy on the side to dip it in. My daughter(5) kept asking for a bite of it because she loved it so much. My wife ordered the duck clip, and thoroughly enjoyed it, as did my daughter who sampled a few bites of that as well. In addition to the main entrees, we also got a side salad, and my kids were both all too eager to try the«purple /pink egg» that was on top of it. Little did they know until biting in to it that it was a pickled egg, which is why it was colored that way, and immediately made their own personal shock and awe face. I finished the rest of the eggs as I thought they were great. Each of the entrees came with a side of pickled green tomatoes, which have a little kick to them, and I of course ate everyone’s because it was too much kick for them. We’ll definitely be back again real soon.

Although it is pricey, the duck club sandwich was just as succulent and satisfying as I had hoped it would be. The duck fat fries were also really tasty. I can only give the Tattooed Moose 4 stars because I’m not a fan of the graffiti covering all the walls, and the restrooms weren’t clearly marked. A guy was scurrying out of the ladies room when my granddaughter and I were going in. Some of the graffiti on the restroom walls was inappropriate.

Cute and very casual spot. The Cuban sandwich is great and the Cobb salad was very good. We enjoyed our lunch outside on the benches!

Great location, décor, crowd, and ambiance. Our server was friendly and attentive. Best of all, their happy hour is killer! 2 dollar high life pours and fries are all that’s needed for a pleasant vacation afternoon! The duck fat fries weren’t exactly anything to write home about, but we will be back to try the full menu.

To be upfront, this is by far the best spot off the peninsula to enjoy great food, drinks and service. It won’t take long for Charleston locals everywhere to start migrating to John’s Island to enjoy this location over their downtown location. For me, Susanne and Ryan(bartenders) made our afternoon one of the most enjoyable times I have had in town in years. Their attentiveness, conversation and dedication to making sure we had the best experience possible made this one of most memorable Saturday’s ever. For those that are not familiar, «The Moose» is extremely well known for its reputation for being one of the best spots for its menu and overall experience. The John’s Island location exceeds all expectations. This is a spot that should never be overlooked while on John’s Island. 5-Stars all the way!

Im torn with my star rating because this could have been lower, but I like the Moose and gave it the rest of the partial star I should have given. Call it a 3.4 star. I loved the décor and the venue. Lots to look around and see while youre waiting. Our server was cool and fun, but very busy. the duck fat fries and gyro were just what I needed. My girlfriend had the Ruben and it was a large delicious sandwich. Parking is a NIGHTMARE and if you dont want to feel like youre sitting outside, dont go… even if youre inside, youre basically outside. Its neat if you like it, but if you dont, youll hate it. Our group of 15 or 20 had a great time and were happy and full when we left. Hope you get the parking thing figured out and keep up the good work!

After mercilessly begging my sister for years to bring me to Tattooed Moose, she gave in and brought me to the new(er) location. And I was NOT disappointed. The John’s Island location seems a little too new to be given such a name as the Tattooed Moose, with bright unfinished walls and new tables that are slowly starting to be covered in stickers and graffiti, but I see where they’re trying to go and I respect it. The beer list was decent — they’ve got their printed menus with the basics and a board on the wall with the newer additions and specials. Everyone in our group found something they enjoyed. We also ordered a serving of the famous duck fat fries — while they were enjoyable, I don’t think they’re anything I would absolutely HAVETO order again. Our waitress was hilarious(telling me I was lucky she didn’t drink my beer on her way to our table because it’s one of her favorites) and we sat next to a lovely group of older women who told us we reminded them of their group, many many years ago. It was a sweet sentiment to share and showed the variety of customers, from families with small children, singles looking for friends at the bar, to this friendly group next to us. It was a good time and I’d love to go back.

Went there for brunch/lunch… ended up with a burger AND some biscuits & gravy. The atmosphere was really cool and it seemed like it would be a good place to hangout a night as well. Beer menu was rather large and food was alright. I think the prices were a little high. Their menu is relatively small so beware if you have picky eaters :) Overall a good place for a good meal

A unique place to eat. We started with a basket of fries with duck fat gravy. The fries were just ok, but what made them taste different from any other fries was the delicious duck fat gravy. Our sandwiches were the gyro, Lucky #1 Sub, and the Duck Club. We shared the sandwiches and all agreed that the Duck Club was the best. A bit pricy for $ 14.50, but it was delicious. The Lucky #1 sub was too spicy for my wife’s taste. Our waiter was great-very friendly and attentive.

I hate pickles. When I order my food, I go to tremendous efforts to convey just how much I hate pickles and that I do not, under any circumstances, want a pickle on my plate at all. Tonight, I had that conversation with my waitress who promised me that my sandwich would not have a pickle on the plate at all. When my food arrived, the burger was served sitting on top of a pickle slice. I will never, ever, ever eat there again, and I encourage you not to either.

Much better than the original downtown. Nice bar, good views, food is OK, not special. On a Sunday afternoon, very busy, in and out. Of course writing all over the place. I had the Turkey sandwich, terrific, wife had the duck, little pricy but she said it was worth it. Fries, a little salty. Many many beers to choose from. Guests a little loud, but that may have something to do with the high roof line. Worth the experience. Frank G

I tried it twice. First time service was great & food was OK. Fries were greasy & I only ate 2 of them & left them. Had to order them separate as they didn’t come with my burger. Tried it for a second time. Service was Terrible, food was terrible. Ordered Well Done fries, which I never got, but which came on the bill. Server was to busy to check with our table. If you want to stop in for a beer, and can get beyond the dead animals everywhere it might be ok for that. All the hype about this place before it opened was for nothing. Save your money. Go eat somewhere with Great food & service… Skip the Moose & go to Wild Olive. You’ll spend about the same, perhaps a bit more, but you will have amazing food & service. Never going back. 2 strikes… I’m Done.

I found this place solidly mediocre. My boyfriend thought the fries were fine, but the duck gravy was really, really disappointing. I had a portobello burger, and knowing they are known for their meat didn’t really rate them on this but rather on my dining companions, who all had meat options. One of our friends had their burger burnt enough to ask for a new one– and when the new order appeared it was minus her fries(she was pretty sad about the missing fries). And they were out of mac and cheese the night we were there, sadly. Overall, we felt the food was really in the okay/fine category, even their famous duck fat fries. The atmosphere is fun, they let you write on the walls and tables, and reading all the scribbles around kept us busy. It was probably the most unique part of our dining experience. They also have a neat outdoor seating option. We might give it one more try, especially since we live so close. We really wanted to like it but found the food just not entirely memorable.

My friend lives in a neighborhood close to the Tattooed Moose so we decided to stop in for a drink(and possibly something to eat). We went on the night the Gamecocks were playing the Tarheels in the first game of the season. We were told the game would be on but with no audio and they would keep their music on. So this obviously isn’t the spot to watch any game. We decided to sit at the bar. The bartenders here are TERRIBLE. These were some of the worst bartenders I have ever encountered. Took almost 5 minutes to even be acknowledged and get our drink orders. And then another 5 – 10 minutes after our drinks were empty to even get our bill. Not to mention there were about 3 or 4 bartenders working and the bar isn’t that big. The place was slow, plenty of open seats on both sides of the bar. I can’t imagine how bad the service is when the place is packed.

It’s about time!!! Sooooo glad it finally opened up and loved every minute of it. Great selection of beers, very good mixed drink and great pub food. Love everything cooked in the duck fat. Best fries I’ve ever had! Grilled cheese and bacon — Yum. The duck club was fantastic. Wings were great and the chocolate pie with candied bacon was fantastic. Best of all — it’s right near our home. New local hang out! Gotta love it!
