F– I do not not recommend Red Ginger Killingly St Johnston. We have ordered food from this restaurant a handful of times because they are close to home and each time the food is bland and lacking something. Each time we try again hoping that it might be better this time, but once again we are very disappointed. Maybe this is because they advertise no msg but I do not ask for no msg. I think they opened in 2003. You would think that the taste of their food would improve by then, but it does not. And it is not cheap either! I no longer EVER order there. I don’t want to waist my money. Instead I order from a small place around the corner in Providence called King Wok. They have really delicious food, at a much cheaper price, and they deliver to Johnston.

My go-to Chinese resturant. Unlike others, this place gives you generous amounts of meat(the Sweet & Sour Chicken… real bits of chicken, unlike other resturants giving little bits of chicken with batter). I love the Sesame Chicken, although I believe the sauce is the same base for the others(General Tso, Orange Chicken), so technically I feel like I am getting all of those dishes when I order this one in particular. Not complaining though, cause it’s damn good. I like to recommend this place to people that haven’t tried it– they certainly are missing out on quality. The workers are very nice too. Always polite and courteous.

I have been to Red Ginger a bunch of times. This is by far the best Chinese cuisine in RI. You have to drive to Boston to find any place as good. I always order from the«authentic» area of the menu and have never been disappointed. Enjoy!

Just ordered from here for a coworker & myself and it was absolutely horrible. The lo mein & fried rice tasted and smelled like burnt popcorn, the egg roll was beyond burnt & dripping oil, and the beef teriyaki was the texture of jello that had been sitting out for a week or so. We ordered from there a week ago as well and the food was great, but tonight it was the most disgusting thing I’ve tasted in a while. My coworker called to complain and she was trying to bring us a new order, no thanks, so now she’s trying to credit our next order, also no thanks. Luckily she’s sending the driver back to give us our money back, but they still just lost a customer.

As a frequent customer of red ginger it is with extreme disgust I even have to write this review. However, over the past few years not only the quality of food, but the attitude of its employees has gone way downhill. Tonight I ordered a delivery and as always the rudest delivery driver arrives at my door rips the money out of my hand and gives me the food. Before I have a chance to tell him to keep the change he is already half way down my walkway. Fine. As I go in I look at the receipt and notice there isn’t just a delivery charge printed on the receipt, but there is also a $ 2.00 tip drawn in pen on the bottom of the receipt. When I call to inform them of what this driver is doing, I am told that he works on tips and if I can’t afford to tip, pick up the food myself. Mind you, the total before his drawn in tip was $ 17. I intended to leave $ 20. Does anyone see the problem with this? After being rudely talked to and treated I let the manager know that instead of picking up the food myself, I would no longer be ordering from her restaurant. Her response? «That’s your decision». Not only am I writing this review on Unilocal,I will be posting on Facebook to let every single one of my friends know how I was treated and how they should look out for these slime ball tactics.

Chinese restaurants are all over, but this one is a 5 star experience. If there is a flaw it is that it is located in a very small, strip mall parking lot. The service is fast and friendly. The menu is extensive with a section for authentic Chinese. The meals themselves are plentiful. I had the chicken lettuce wraps and it was enough to feed two people. I will definitely come back.

From start to finish this is a great restaurant. The hostess is always cheerful and courteous. The restaurant is very clean as are the menus’s which in some places are often grimy. The food is very well prepared and plentiful. What I love the best is the«Pink» menu which is authentic Chinese fare like you would find in N.Y. or Boston. The staff is also helpful with describing the items listed on this menu. Its fun to try new things, be adventurous!

Can’t complain — food is always good. Came for lunch early Saturday with my sister. The only problem is it’s located in a small strip on a busy street with other store fronts with limited parking so parking can be a hassle. We ordered the chicken corn soup, not too many places make this so we always get it when we come. Nice velvety texture full of corn and chicken bits.yum. For entrees, we had the Red Ginger Special Chow Mein and the Salty Squid/Shrimp combo. The Chow Mein is our usual here — done just right, crunchy veggies, nice combo of meats poured over a bed of crispy noodles that soften over time. The salty squid/shrimp wasn’t what we were expecting, thought it was going to be a lighter not so floury batter but still tasty enough with a little kick. We were the only ones in there and my 2 yr old nephew was a bit angsty but they were very accommodating — service was great! Nothing calms down a 2 yr old like a free fortune cookie, lol.

Not sure why this place has such a great average review. We picked up an order of the Sweet & Sour chicken, General Sao chicken, Vegetable LoMein, and Hot/spicy chicken wings. The chicken used in the Sweet & Sour was very stringy. The General Sao was made with dark meat, not white, and was also fatty. Vegetable LoMein was just«OK». And the spicy chicken wings were also just«OK». We actually threw out all the leftovers and didn’t even bother keeping them because we knew we would not eat any of it. We will never order from there again, it was a waste of money.

I hate to say this but I just had the absolute worse egg drop soup and old tasting rice. The rice I understand since I went late, but the egg drop soup looked and tasted like bland water. This was the worst money I have ever spent. All around disappointed!

After much trial and error with really bad Chinese food, I feel like I have come home to some of the best and most authentic presentations in this small state. I also learned that many restaurants are so afraid of customer backlash against there wonderful traditional options that the have secret menus for a select few. Red Ginger has such a menu, which they dub the«pink» menu. Using the app«beyond menu» I have successfully uncovered a surprising array of new options. This Cantonese restaurant delivers fresh and tasty meals which do not disappoint. If you eat in, there are coupons you can utilize. Highly recommend. My faves are salt and pepper calamari, ma po tofu, and yang chow fried rice(white vs. brown colored rice). Nice stop if in the area. The surrounding areas and building exterior look pretty slummy, but the interior is surprisingly nice. Stop in and look at both menus, if you dare!

Excellent authentic Chinese food. The menu is just like any other Chinese restaurant, it has all the basics chow mein, general tsaos chicken, egg rolls, combo plates etc… But there is also an authentic Chinese menu! This is usually where I order my food. I order anything from fish to stir fried beef and mix chinese vegs(I love Chinese broccoli). The restaurant inside is very cozy and cute, very clean and the staff is always very friendly. Sometimes there is a little bit of a language barrier, and it can be hard to understand certain servers, but there is always someone else around to help. My husband has a severe legume allergy. So he can’t have string beans, pea pods, nuts, tofu etc. And we have never had a problem. Their take out comes out in a timely fashion and they also deliver. Although I’ve never had food delivered because we are about 3 mins away. I have seen take out food come out of the kitchen though and usually deliveries are put in a portable hot bag so I am sure the food stays as hot as possible.

When I was first introduced to this place, I was told that they had the best beef teriyaki anywhere. Having been there many times since, I can’t disagree with that. The staff is friendly, the portions are large and the food is quality.

Went back this week with some friends and had a good meal. The restaurant was pretty busy for Friday night but the service was decent. Here’s some feedback on our food. Chicken Corn Soup(8⁄10) nicely done, thick, chunky and seasoned well. The menu item for 2 can feed 2 – 4 depending on how many bowls you want to have. Crispy Chicken Wings(8⁄10) they were very crispy and hot. We asked for hot mustard and duck sauce and made a nice paste to dip them in. Scallion Pancakes(2⁄10) Not good. Small order, doughy on the inside, almost undercooked. The edges were not crispy and not flavorful. The worst thing I have gotten at this place. Not to be ordered again. Jumbo Shrimp with Peapods(7⁄10) The flavors were great, but the complain was that there were only a few shrimp in the whole dish…95% peapods…5% shrimp. Sesame Chicken(8⁄10) Many crispy chunks of white meat chicken. Not too much batter, lots of sesame seeds sprinkled on top. Sauce was a bit too sweet for me, but very good. Pork Chop with Black pepper sauce(9⁄10). Boneless pieces of pork chop, well marinated with a spicy pepper sauce, stir fried with onions and peppers. Delish ! Overall a solid option not too far from Providence.

Took three disappointments in a row but im updating my review. I ordered nime chow and got white iceberg lettuce and plain rice noodles inside. Omg. Any soup ordered will taste the same with canned veg. Any noodles ordered will taste the same with canned veg. Used to have fresh veg and delightful clean tasting complex sauces. All gone. They make a decent fried wonton. Decent pork spare ribs. Anything fried and meat based and you are prob ok.

I’m always on the look out for some authentic Cantonese Chinese food in the area. I have been making my way up to Boston for the most part until some of my friends suggested that I try out«Red Ginger.» Yes, they have 2 menus. One with the moogoo gai pan and the other with the west lake beef soup! Red Ginger is tucked away in Johnston which is really only about 10 minutes outside of Providence(most of you travel at least 10 min to get to another place within Providence!). Situated in a strip mall of sorts, you can easily miss it as you come off the freeway. When you walk inside, you’ll see that there is plenty of places to sit and can hold large parties of people. Both menus are actually located in one booklet so flip to the back if you want the authentic stuff. Many people go here for their lunch. It’s $ 7 if you can find something you like! Otherwise, you can order from the back menu at any time of the day. That have great cha siu, roast duck and west lake beef soup. Their salt and pepper pork is not the best but it isn’t that bad either. They have an array of other foods that I wanted to try but between two people, I couldn’t justify eating $ 60 worth of foods! They take credit cards but not american express. They also speak both Mandarin and Cantonese and can deliver within a mile of their restaurant. Come by and try! I’ll have to go back and branch out and give the other items a taste ;)

Do yourself a favor and flip all the way to the back of the menu with the options only written in Chinese. The Crock Pot dishes are delicious yet simply prepared. The flounder crock pot with ginger and scallions was so good! I would have loved some snow peas thrown in there maybe though. Next time I’m getting the Tofu and Vegetables which sounded amazing. My husband really enjoyed the Lamb and Mushroom crock pot, too. Service is efficient and friendly and we had a lovely time discussing language translations between Chinese and English with our server.

The last two times I’ve gotten Red Ginger it has been great!!! Fast delivery, good lo mein, rangoons, egg rolls, everything. I need to try more diverse and interesting things on the menu, I always order the boring, fat American items.

Any place that puts emphasis on remembering my name when I come back is alright in my book. They have typical American Chinese food, however, the pink menu is very good with authentic Chinese cuisine. The owner is one of the nicest people I have ever met in a restaurant establishment. Food gets 4 stars and the customer service gets the extra star.
